is team is sponsored by pampers. >> we are back with "today" parenting team. nearly 400,000 babies are born premature in the united states every week. and november is national prematureity awareness month. >> this is a sweet story. we caught up with joanie and brian washburn from ohio as they brought home baby cayden for the first time after he spent two months in the nicu at cleveland clinic children's hospital. ♪ >> he was pretty sick. he's one of the kids that keeps you up at night. >> reporter: little cayden washburn's story began with a fight for his his mom, joanie seven months pregnant was in a car accident and rushed by ambulance to the nearest hospital. >> i knew immediately when my phone rang because she leaves work at 4:30. andy phone was

ringing. i knew something was up. and you could hear panic in her voice. >> reporter: joanie underwent an emergency c-section. she heardt miraculous sound. cayden cried a few times. then nothing. dr. matthew and his team avefor 12 minutes, cayden was silent unresponsive. >> they were working on him. doctors shaking everyisten to him. and also he just kind ofooked around at everybody standing around him. he was like, what's up? >> reporter: just two days later, cayden started having seizures. he was strong enough for his neurosurgery and had a shunt implanted in his head. >> when the doctor first came to seizures they said you might want to get him baptized or blessed. >> at first, itard putn a brave face and every night we said we're not going to cry around him. we want to be positive. we want positive vibes around him. >> there's no way around it.

it's a rollercoaster ride. some days you walk out of the nicu feeling like a million bucks. and other days, it's the darkest day of your life. >> he was in the fragile state. he closed the door to the nursery. we had the sonogram pictures on the fridge. >> you look at the clock. like let's try to make it to 12:00. >> reporter: caroline was the neonatal >> they are brief of the l a normal pregnancy. and they need emotional support. >> you'redo and happy at the small victories. you're allowed to be upset. it's hard to tell people what you want. they're like what do you need? we want prayers. ♪ >> i think curious is probably the best word to describe him so the obvious, that he's a fighter.

but he -- i think he's going to be ornery.ood thing. that's what helped him yawn and bring his hands up to his face and a bottle which he before which we never thought he would do is great to see. that's awesome. hey, buddy. ♪ >> but then there's that light at the end of the tunnel. and you, you know -- >> that's it. >> finally here. very exciting. >> yeah. it's a good feeling. >> ready to go home? >> this day means -- like a great accomplishment for the team that i work for. >> it's cold out, bud. >> it's not aboy. it's about the patients with take care of. a team and that is how kaden turned out. >> he truly is our miracle. >> after hearts ss of

and perfect to wash it down with crab dip. >> what's the assembly? >> hot mayonnaise. and pickled onions. the onions are going to help cut through the fat. >> a little lettuce, too. >> shredded lettuce. it had to be a little healthy. >> chicken sandwich. >> and cheese too. >> pepper jack cheese. a little spice. >> this is looking good. >> how is the patriots meal? >> we're dying over here. good. >> carson you have your work ku out for you. >> can't cheat making the meal. now, you get it. from the afc west here. i am also a fan of biscuits and hams. >> we're going to make the some cheddar biscuits. we need to make sour pistour biscuits.

>> the key here is keeping them cold. make sure your butter doesn't melt down. we have to brush this with a little egg warblesh. >> what's the difficulty of making this in the mile-high. >> you need a little more flour in the mile-high than down here. the elevation is a little different. we're going to bake he's at 425 for 9 to 12 minutes. we're going to make red pepper jam. we have fresnos and bell peppers. hit them up cider vinegar. >> do you serve these? >> we do. the cider vinegar, with if sweetness and the fat. little sugar. >> just a pinch. not much. >> once we cook this down we have a beautiful red pepper jam. >> how long does it cool? >> in an ice bath like 30 minutes. >> cool. >> we go to assembly.
