we're live outside the nbc10 studio where it is at least 20 degrees colder tonight than it was this time last night. >> that isn't stopping people from heading out and enjoying this friday night. we'll show you how. >> first let's go into the studio with chief meteorologist tammie souza. with important information for anyone who is spending any length of time outside. >> it is going to be a very bitterly cold night. we have the first alert for the arctic blast continuing right on through tomorrow. for the entire region. now what tuz this mean for you? through saturday night we'll be bitterly cold and at times a windchill that means it feel like single digits and teens. cold gusty wind that will slowly taper off tomorrow afternoon. and we'll have near record cold temperatures tonight into tomorrow morning. hard freeze already taking place. across the entire area. look at with where this cold front dipped to. much of the eastern half of the nation is in the cold. it's really a rare sight when

you see 39 in billings and 26 degrees in philadelphia. it's 26 rochester. 21 pittsburg. we'll continue to drop. 27 wilmington. 28 vine lard and 26 in atlantic city. temperatures will be dropping over night. you'll wake up to 24, 25 degrees in philadelphia. when i come back we'll talk about the windchill and how it is going to make you feel tomorrow. >> when the weather is this cold there's a lot of concern for the homeless population. many cities called for a code blue. when brings ut resources to help those in need. the wind is not helping. look how much it is blowing that flag over the skyline. nbc10 keith jones is live tonight. despite the frigid temperatures, this is not keeping people inside. >> no, no, not at all. it's freezing cold out here.

to get colder tonight. >> got to have the gloves. before you head out this weekend get the latest forecast for your neighborhood by down loading the nbc10 app. new at 11. two people in the hospital tonight after this home in burling ton county went up in smoke and flames. the fire break out after 8:00. this home took crews about an hour and a half to control the flames. two people inside are being treated for smoke inhalation. no word on what started the fire. now to an nbc10 exclusive. a hot pursuit caught on video. it shows police chasing and pulling their guns on the suspect from a road rage shooting. nbc10 aaron is live at headquarters with more on the struggle to take this suspect down. >> the chief tells me his officers also did great work tonight in tracking down that dangerous suspect. we're told that suspect fired his gun in broad daylight.

with kids around. >> it's frightening. it's sad. there's just no concern for life. >> reporter: it's the end of a chase in kensington. transit police officers rush over to a gunman believed to be behind a road rage shooting minutes before. chief thomas tems us it took several officers to drag the unwilling driver from the car. out of the in dar camera view. the man became extremely aggressive. fighting with officers. >> a lot of people won the lottery tonight. >> reporter: moments before the chase ended. officers were hot on the trail of the driver. weaving through traffic. they bumped into his car to slow him down. investigators say two drivers had been arguing outside of the car. near kensington. when a man fired his gun and took off. >> he's a terrible threat to everyone. this is somebody that is filled with rage so much so he doesn't care about kids in the

background. >> reporter: at the same time. surveillance video shows philadelphia police officers responding to the call. two of the suvs crash into each other. four officers were injured. and a house was left with major damage. >> i see the one officer jump out. jump in the back of the cop car. face was bloody. >> thankfully we're told the officers only suffered minor injuries. we're told they did arrest the 20 year-old driver. but never found the gun. we're flif center city. a social media star from delaware county came face to face with his alleged stalker. the suspect is accused of driving all the way from michigan. several times. and showing up at the teenagers home. nbc10 drew smith shows us how the victims family helped put him behind bars. >> reporter: detectives say michael lees intent was out

there to see on his twitter account. the 30 year-old charged with stalking and harassment of a local teen whose inbox was filling up with unwanted disturbing messages about hook ups. >> i couldn't believe somebody would be as obsessed as that so drive and show up as somebodies door. >> reporter: driving from michigan. to the part of township repeatedly. the family started getting e-mails too. >> i'm going take your son. >> the mom had to slam the door in his face. after as many as five contacts. a sting was set up to bust leeb. >> they realized this was getting out of hand. >> reporter: a few days ago we told the story of a bucks county family. faing a similar situation. they are pushing for stricter cyber security laws. the teenager who we are not identifying has a large internet

following. and this is an instance where that turned dangerous. >> the more popular you become you have to take safety steps. >> police are working with police in michigan as well as their delaware county specialist who handle commuters crime. to look further into this. a man is beaten unconscious with a baseball bat. police are looking for the two men who did it. take a look at the surveillance here. one of the men run up with the bat, and knocking the victim out. this attack happened earlier this month at a speed way gas station on lee high avenue. police say the suspects were driving a ford f 150 with chrome spokes. the victim is now in a medically induced coma. a mother still grieving the unsolved murder of her son. held a vigil in his honor tonight. he was gunned down one year ago.

his mother says she's trying to keep his memory alive. she says someone knows who killed her son. and silence promotes violence. in april, police released this surveillance video. they're looking for the man in the maroon and blue shirt. they think he is the shooter. there's a $30,000 reward for information leading to arrest. neighbors against the plan to put up gas station on a church property in lawn dale can rejoice. the commission added the parish house to the local historic register. the church wanted to lease the property to royal farms because it needed the money. neighbors against the plan complain the area is already too congested. some students were all for veterans day the others invited vets inside the classroom. >> vert rans were invited in

1,600 new infections were reported last year. in people ages 18 to 35. that number has doubled since 2010. hepatitis c causes a chronic infection of the liver and can spread through the sharing of needles. >> take a look at the used tires piled up on the sidewalk. this is called short dumping. it's a problem plaguing a neighborhood. neighbors tell nbc10 someone has been leaving the piles of tires across different part of german town. it happened five times recently. the tires are left by the dozens and neighbors can't clear them. one person says the neighborhood needs to come together to find out who's doing this. >> we need neighbors to be vigilant. and be aware. and km out and inspect what's going on. we don't need them to confront the people. but maybe copy the tag down and report it. >> the city decided to raise the fine on short dumping from $300 to at least 1,000.

shopping for the winter coats. maybe tomorrow. take look outside. what a beautiful night. it was a stunning day out there. bitterly cold. temperatures that fell quickly. we have a freeze warning. that is going to be through 10:00 tomorrow morning. we talk about it for several days. that includes philadelphia and delaware county. and south jersey. we'll see near record low temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees. the growing season is officially over. the highs today wow look at this. 51 philadelphia. did you feel it? i didn't. it happened shortly after midnight. and then the temperatures just fell off throughout the day. in fact the water temperature is much warmer than the air temperature. it's in the 60s. we're 26 philadelphia. 14 in mount. 22 in redding. 22 pots town. at 24 in mount holly. 28 and atlantic city away from the ocean at 26 degrees. here's what we're going to go. fouch cast into the low and
