mr. president, is an accused child molester better than a democrat? >> he totally denies it. he says it didn't happen and you know you have to listen to him also. you're talking about -- he said 40 years ago this did not happen. >> president trump breaks ranks with establishment republicans who urged roy moore to drop out of the alabama senate race after nine women have come forward. >> his fan club once included more people than elvis or the beatles combined. this morning we remember 1970s teen heart throb david cassidy. >> olympic gold medal star gabby dug laz revealedst was also a victim of team abuse. >> "early today" starts right now.

king joins stephen colbert last night to say she and her colleagues were still reeling from the news. >> hi. thanks so much for being here. >> steve, i came this close to cancelling. i'm a variety of emotions. there is certainly some anger, there is some sadness, there is compassion. i think even somebody used the word i just feel raw i just feel numb. we're all sort of reeling about what has happened. >> king's comments come as the new poll sheds light on just how pervasive the issue of sexual harassment is with 60% of women saying they've been on the receiving end of such harassment and now we're hearing from charlie rose for the first time. nbc's stephanie gosk has the story. >> do you want to say anything to those accusers the people accusing you of all the wrongdoings? >> it's not wrongdoings. >> reporter: less than 24 hours after washington post article alleged charlie rose sexually harassed female employees for years, the 75-year-old is out of a job. in a statement the president of cbs news announced rose was

times and i accept responsibility for that. though i do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate. the washington post now says more accusers are reaching out a lot more. >> within hours after the publication of our story, we already had more than a dozen e-mails from women who wanted to come forward. >> reporter: reporter amy britain says five of the original accusers decided to remain anonymous fearing rose's reaction. >> they were concerned he would possibly try to derail their careers if they spoke out. >> reporter: amy rit entold us one of the most frustrating parts of her reporting was that she reached out to a number of men who worked on the show to corroborate the accuseers' accounts. some of them did, but they wouldn't go on the record and they wouldn't let their names be publicized. frances, back to you. >> all right stephanie. thank you. now to alabama where the special election race is inches closer as embattled candidate roy moore stays on the trail another day. moore hoping for a win despite nine women culling out and

3:36 am
jones, i've looked at his record. it's terrible on crime. it's terrible on the border. it's terrible in the military. >> reporter: the second reason is because the president says he believes moore. now, so far nine women have come forward with sexually inappropriate behavior that moore made towards them when they were teens. the president saying that if those stories were true they would have come out over the past 40 years. >> mr. president, is an accused child molester better than a democrat? is an accused child molester better than a democrat? >> look he denies it. i mean if you look at what -- what is really going on and you look at all the things that have happened over the last 48 hours, he totally denies it. he says it didn't happen and you know you have to listen to him also. you're talking about he said 40 years ago this did not happen. >> reporter: and the endorsement may not help with female voters. that's because according to a new quinnipiac poll some voters
