umbrellas out there. all right, al. if you're headed to the airport this morning, you're not alone. tom costello is at reagan national airport. with a good look at what you will see when you get there. >> reporter: good morning. we are on the bravo side. this airplane is taking off to jacksonville shortly. the busiest travel day will be sunday. but not only are the roads backed but we have the airports backed and airplanes packed. 98% full. it will be tough getting there, if you miss your flight. not a lot of elbow room. if you leave at 6:00 in the morning, you have an 88% chance of leaving on time. by 9:00 p.m. it's down to 62%. now, look at the most delayed airports over the last five years, and no surprise they're dominated by the big hubs across the country. that includes san francisco, as well as newark and oakland and houston's in there, and chicago.

and that includes craig melvin. he is braving big apple rush hour with some tips about the best time to drive. craig, how is it looking? >> not so bad. we're on the george washington bridge. just passed the toll booth, not awful. of the 50 million people about 45 million of them will be driving. that's the highest in a number of years. the best time to drive, actually right now. if you don't want to grab the keys and hop in the car right now, though the suggestion is that you not drive between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 this afternoon. that's the worst time to hit the road. you can expect some delays if you're heading home on saturday afternoon or sunday afternoon. so those are some of the tips to help you avoid the traffic. meanwhile, the gas prices the highest they've been since 2014 up 37 krendcents over the last year. >> thank you very much.

this is like a scene from a cold war spy movie. you can see a north korean defector running from that jeep, running for his life as north korean soldiers follow him and open fire. it was all captured on camera including a daring rescue. in the dramatic footage, released overnight, a military jeep hurtles toward the demilitarized zone. inside the vehicle, a north korean soldier risking his life desperate to defect. hef hiavily heavily-armed border guards racing the intercept him. the defector leaps from the jeep. seconds later, his military colleagues firing 40 rounds. he is shot at least five times. his motionless body slumped against the wall. the footage then shows a daring rescue. south korean soldiers crawling to him and dragging him to

safety. just last month, inside north korea, we visited the border area known as the dmz. our military guide took us through the very same road where the defector is seen. and to the heavily-guarded border where north and south is just steps away from each other. the escape an embarrassment for north korea, who said that defectors are kidnapped or lured by the south. opening fire it's shot for the first time in three decades. the soldier, now recovering after two operations. lucky to be alive. running for freedom, especialing with escaping with just seconds to spare. that north korean soldier just crossing the border. that's one of the issues that many are saying, they're surprised this didn't turn into a wider firefight. that border is so tense.

passengers onboard, has crashed into the waters off of japan. keir simmons joining us with the latest on the rescue operation. what's the latest? >> reporter: good morning, again. unconfirm reports that the crash may have been the result of engine trouble. three people are missing. eight rescued, the u.s. navy says. the aircraft carrying 11 crew and passengers crashing into the philippines see overnight, around 3:30 local time. the navy saying those rescued are in good condition, while search and rescue efforts for three personnel continue. the aircraft was part of a naval exercise with 14,000 u.s. personnel participating. but it crashed during a routine flight the u.s. military says. it will raise questions, though. this year the u.s. navy has seen two fatal accidents in that region. matt? >> keir simmons on this story from london. thank you very much. gabby douglas has added her

name to the growing list of young women who say they were abused by former u.s. olympic team doctor larry nassar. >> douglas shared an emotional post on tuesday, expressing her support for teammates who have come forward, and asking followers to quote, please hear my heart. three-time gold medalist gabby douglas took to twitter to say, she, too, was abused by larry nassar. i didn't share my experience as well as other things. for years, we were conditioned to stay silent. and some things were painful. the statement comes a week after her teammate 23-year-old, aly raisman, revealed in her book, that nassar molested her, as well. >> from the moment that i realized that it happened to me i wanted to you know talk about it. society sometimes makes it hard for people to come forward

mind. >> should i just leave? whatever. one of my favorite ways to cook a turkey to ensure you have moist between the breast and the tie, to butterfly the turkey. one side of the spine. and i go to the other side of the spine. it's all right. you have stock right here. and you flip the bird over. and you lay it out. by cooking it this way, you have a moist bird all the way through. you don't have the problem that it's dry in the best. that's the way to go. >> that was super impressive. >> my best thanksgiving tip, warn the hosts when you're going to spin the floor. you like spices to get the fat level down. >> a great way to get flavor into the turkey is to use

spices. and the best way to use spices is by buying them whole, roasting them in a hot pan. and then, you grind them up in small batches to use. >> in the bird or on the bird? >> use the spice rub with the salt to get the skin crispy. in the cavity. >> and by the way, look how you got used to the spinning floor. that was really good. >> i want a lazy susan every time i come back. >> you got it. your special ingredient citrus. >> when looking, three things make things great. fat, acid and salt. just a little citrus makes the whole difference. lemon or lime or an orange. after you season the bird, garlic garlic a little smoked paprika.
