we begin with aundrea cline-thomas in king of prussia. >> reporter: as people decided to hop in their cars along the turnpike, many drivers out here now but there is no traffic. everything is moving smoothly. if you instead opted to park your car and hop on amtrak, you may have had to wait a little bit longer. >> northbound, rail service. >> reporter: one of the busiest days of the year at the 30th street station. >> reporter: where is everyone going? >> williamsburg, virginia. >> reporter: amtrak added more trains and seats to accommodate the thanksgiving crowds. >> it's very busy. they said our train will be packed for, like, jam-packed. >> reporter: by late morning some of the trains were already delayed. sean overbeck and his family made sure to come early. >> we were just here a little early. it was so crowded, we didn't want to miss it. >> reporter: amtrak transported

pretty slow as we pan out. you see why from the mid-county toll. the merge is slowing traffic. the traffic coming north off of 476, it's a little bit backed up. not too bad at this point. aaa predicts that drivers will experience the greatest congestion right now, all because of the early evening commuters as well as the mix of holiday travelers. in all, aaa projects that more than 600,000 people from just a five-county philadelphia region will be traveling more than 50 miles away from home. we'll keep an eye on the traffic. we'll talk to you later in the show. >> see you then. we know how important the weather forecast is for you when you travel. calm conditions right now as we have a live look at allentown from the camera at the ppl center. cooler start in university city. near 30th and chestnut streets people made their way around this morning. a big change for the holiday, a

drop in temperatures. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz joins us now with your most accurate forecast. how big of a drop, glenn? >> by tomorrow morning it will feel like the 20s across much of the area. we were well into the 50s today. we still have clouds around the area, but the rain, that is long gone. and we don't have any more rain headed this way for quite a while. the temperature has dropped a good bit just in the last few hours. it was 55 in philadelphia two hours ago. now it's 48. down to 43 in allentown. these numbers will continue to drop as we go through the evening. by 11:00 we're in the 30s. even in philadelphia, with a little bit of wind, by 7:00 a.m. it's 30. below freezing in the suburbs at 11:00, and into the mid 20s at 7:00 a.m., a little wind making it feel like it's closer to 20. so we are starting the day off tomorrow at a very cold level.

in that deadly stabbing in a strip mall. we've learned a husband and wife are now accused of the murder. police arrested austin parkinson and lana lair today. they found chad kanada stabbed multiple times in a car on monday. they learned they met him to buy heroin. moments after the murder, two people dressed in black walk up to a car and then take off from the crime scene. former usa gymnastics doctor accused of sexually assaulting dozens of women pleaded guilty today in a michigan courtroom. >> i pray for forgiveness for their -- i want them to heal. >> larry nasser pleaded guilty to molesting seven girls, at least three were under the age of 13. some of his accusers were inside the packed courtroom. >> today stands as a stark and painful reminder that, while my predator has been stopped, the

culture that allowed this predator to continue abusing has yet to end. >> prosecutors have recommended nasser spend between 25 and 40 years behind bars. olympic gymnast gabby douglas is the latest member to accuse nasser of sexually assaulting her. aly raisman and mckayla maroney made similar allegations. 125 similar other lawsuits were filed against nasser. in the last hour we learned the communications director for alabama senate candidate roy moore resigned. his opponent released a new video featuring the women who have accused moore of sexual misconduct. >> wendy miller. kelly harrison thorpe. and the list is growing. they were girls when roy moore immorally pursued them. >> the ad is running on the internet only. moore has denied all the accusations against him. president trump urged people to support moore yesterday despite the allegations saying he doesn't want a liberal democrat

in congress. other republicans such as majority leader mitch mcconnell called on moore to drop out of the race. a pennsylvania police officer shot and killed during a traffic stop last week was laid to rest today. ♪ >> officer bryan shaw worked with the new kensington police department for one year. he was just 25 years old. hundreds of fellow officers, friends and family attended today's service. investigators say shaw pulled over a car last friday that roamel holt was riding in. holt tried to run away but then turned and shot trooper shaw several times. it does not appear that shaw returned fire. holt was arrested in pittsburgh yesterday. students at roman catholic high school held their annual blue mass of thanksgiving this morning. it's an opportunity to express support and gratitude for philadelphia police, firefighters and first responders. officers and firefighters who work in the center city district attended mass and a small

reception in the school's gymnasium. philadelphia police officers in the northeast enjoyed breakfast with their extended family today. nbc10 at the lodge for the police survivors thanksgiving breakfast. every year officers celebrate the holidays with the families of fallen officers. it's an effort to remind them they are never forgotten. afterwards a motorcade delivered dinners to the families of fallen officers across the area. 130 north back open after a crash near neck road before 9:00 this morning. you can see that the back end of that trailer flipped over, one person was hurt. a search and rescue operation for three people is under way after a u.s. navy plane crashed into the ocean off the coast of japan. search and rescue operations recovered eight sailors, all good condition. the c 2 a aircraft was conducting a routine transport flight when it went down southeast of okinawa.

a new york college fraternity was found guilty in the hazing death of a freshman pledge. the fraternity in manhattan has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and other charges. he died from head injuries after a hazing ritual. the students were at a rented home in the poconos in 2014. four members of the now closed fraternity await sentencing. yesterday the district attorney elect in centre county announced plans to take the penn state case. 12 additional members were charged in the death of pledge timothy p timothy piazza. an investigation into the massive data breach at uber. officials say any fine will be higher than usual because the company did not promptly disclose the hack. the ride-sharing firm says hackers stole the information of 57 million riders and drivers. the company then paid the

hackers $100,000 to destroy the information. a live look at philadelphia's christmas villag cr busy putting finishing touches on the buildings there. the village opens tomorrow at the newly renovated love park. now in its tenth year, the market is modeled after a german christmas village. it includes vendors selling crafts, jewelry and sweets. it will be great to see love park coming back to life. almost finished with the renovation there. it will be awesome. it will be cold for folks who are out and about tomorrow, glenn, right? >> tomorrow will be the coldest day of the holiday weekend, probably. it's going to start warming up on friday. by administrate it's goi-- satuy it will be feeling warm. 48 degrees. temperatures going down. winds at 17 miles an hour. in the 40s with a lot of clouds and much of the region -- look at all that traffic in delaware. they're all going to the south. you can see the weather in the

suburbs here, we are looking at some of the places that are coldest. berks, lehigh valley. 42 fleetwood. mertztown. 43 at white hall and allentown. 42 in bethlehem. 40 in walnut port, about to go into the 30s. some gusty winds too. gusting to 32 in philadelphia. and 30 in millville. the winds will diminish during the evening hours, as soon as the sun goes down. we have fair weather clouds moving through pennsylvania. the stormy clouds. they are up in new england. and they're getting a lot of rain, but that is moving out there too. going through the night tonight, watch the temperatures going down. by 10:00, already 30, allentown. that's without the wind. but by tomorrow morning, it doesn't drop that much. it's still in the 20s. a little bit of wind, making it

feel a little bit colder. it's obviously dry. it will be sunny all day tomorrow. it's still going to be cold. temperatures barely getting into the mid 40s. and then dropping again tomorrow night down to near 30 or the 20s in some of the more than suburbs. here we go. friday morning. 29 degrees in pottstown and reading. by friday afternoon, we're starting with a warmup. we get into the 50s on friday afternoon. and we get close to 60 by saturday. you can see the temperatures at the bottom of your screen for your area at any time during the weather. you don't have to wait. here we go with the forecast for thanksgiving. high temperature of 46 degrees. it's about six degrees for so below normal for this time of year. but we're not expecting a lot of wind, and we are expecting a lot of sunshine. that's a pretty decent day.

remember, the sun sets early, and it gets feeling cold pretty quickly after that. and then, for the early friday morning shopping, it's going to be cold, but again not much wind. 33 at 6:00 a.m. in philly, going up to 50 or above later in the day. and again, cooling down friday night pretty substantially, but lots of sunshine on friday. and into saturday. on sunday, we have cooler weather returning with these northwest winds. below average temperatures. the winds may be the biggest deal. for the eagles, 20, 25-mile-an-hour wind swirls in the stadium. could affect the kicking and the passing games. and for the rest of the holiday weekend, look how warm it gets on saturday. up near 60 degrees in philadelphia and much of new jersey. jersey shore. that is pretty mild for this time of the year. then we cool down on sunday with high temperatures only in the

more than 24 million people are expected to fly to get home for the holidays. the tsa thinks this might be their busiest thanksgiving week on record. and taking a live look at i-95 at vine street. many folks trying to get on the road to their holiday destination this afternoon. nbc10 has team coverage of the mad dash before the holiday to get you ready. >> mitch blacher is watching out for traffic backups from skyforce10. we're in for chilly weather for the holiday weekend, glenn? >> that's right, jim. the weather will not be a problem for anybody traveling. the roads, the air, trains, anything. not interrupted by weather. we have some clouds up there. but they're not that thick. not producing any precipitation. that's in easton. where we had some cloudy skies earlier. the rain was mostly in new jersey and delaware as expected. you can see the camera shaking here in delaware as we're going south on 95.

a lot of traffic. and a little bit of wind to make that camera shake. the last of that rain moving up to new england. but we have clouds moving in from the northwest. northwest winds coming over the warm lakes. creating those clouds. not quite enough for lake-effect snow to come to this portion of the state. 48 degrees at philadelphia. we are in the mid 50s a few hours ago. it already is starting to cool off. it's down to 32. in mount pocono. and it is going to continue to cool off pretty quickly tonight. into the 30s in just a few hours in philadelphia. any hour now in lehigh valley, pa suburbs, it will be going down into the 20s later tonight. by tomorrow morning a little bit of wind, making it feel even colder than these numbers. but it is going to warm up this weekend. and we'll tell you about that and how warm it's going to be next week coming up.

>> all right, glenn. skyforce10, keeping an eye on any travel troubles. >> nbc10's mitch blacher live over the walt whitman bridge. >> reporter: it's just starting to back up a little bit as the tra traffic coming onto 295 south in camden county. wes getting increased volume. we've been from the blue route to 95 to here in new jersey looking for traffic tie-ups as aaa says this right now is the highest volume traffic time for this thanksgiving holiday travel season. they say that actually this interchange right here at the walt wittman bridge and i-295 is the highest volume in and around the philadelphia metro area in all, in our entire metro area. they're looking at about 2 million people who will travel 50 miles or further.

700 crashes on that road. that's almost two accidents a day. here is a look at some of the other stories we are following county by county. we start in kent county. health officials confirmed the first flu cases in children this season. in all 22 cases were reported. last flu season delaware had 4,590 confirmed flu cases. 15 of which were deadly. in burlington county, an early thanksgiving feast. little pilgrims and turkeys. the staff at teddy bear academy hosted their feast at marlton middle school. the kids learned what it means to be thankful and created decorations for the tables. in camden county office workers with the philadelphia flyers helped to set the table for families in camden. the flyers help prepare, cook and decorate the camden center. tomorrow it will serve 400 meals. tomorrow your holiday may

19 in allentown. so you get up real early tomorrow, it's going to feel pretty cold. even for thanksgiving. later in the day, not quite as cold, obviously, but still way below normal for this time of the year. another chilly night tomorrow night. takes a little bit of wind with these temperatures to create a wind chill. on friday afternoon, that's when we are starting to feel like it is more like november than december. the thanksgiving planner shows that the cold weather is starting the day. if you get up late enough and wait long enough to go outside, it won't be so bad. 35 in philly at 9:00 a.m. into the 40s in the afternoon. lots of sunshine. black friday. a great day. clear skies. going from the freezy maing mar the morning to the 50s in the afternoon. for the eagles game, 40s.

a lot of local college students are already home for thanksgiving. some at widener university stayed behind today to learn an important lesson outside the classroom? >> nbc10's rosemary connors shows us how the meal was months in the making. >> reporter: first the students received their assignments. >> one sweet and one mac and cheese. >> reporter: then the blessing before the meal. >> our father we thank you for every expression of your love. >> reporter: with the guests seated, the feast is now ready to serve. >> we are doing something positive. >> we're fortunate because now we actually get to serve the meal which we didn't get to do six years ago and before because it was on thanksgiving day.
