president trump with an insult-filled tirade today. mayor jim kenney says his family didn't do a good job raising thanks for joining us. i am jim rosenfield. the mayor even suggested the president should get out of the country. let's bring in lauren mayk. this all started with a discussion of how the white house treats immigrants. >> reporter: the mayor has a history of criticizing president trump. there is a lot they don't agree on. on the topic of immigration things get emotionally charged. the mayor talks about his own family's irish heritage. today, though, he got personal about the president's family. >> this country used to be a country of compassion and empathy. it's now a country of anger and divisiveness. >> reporter: jim kenney with frustration and harsh words in comments that started with a script about immigration policies. >> now the reality is that the trump administration is telling nearly 60,000 nations, allowed

to live and work in the united states since the earthquake should just get out. he should get out, actually. >> reporter: and then things got personal about the president. >> there is just no compassion whatsoever in the white house. i am just beside myself with sadness because our president is a bully. our president is a punk. and he just doesn't get it. >> reporter: after the name-calling, the mayor also taking on president trump's family. >> i don't know where he was raised, but his family didn't do a good job raising that guy. tell you the truth. >> reporter: today's skewering the latest in a string of insults the mayor lobbed at president trump. telling me during the campaign -- >> the mayor is doing a terrible job. >> reporter: the mayor responded then by calling him a nufrink u pop. since then, sharp words from the mayor who says he is

along. >> reporter: it is moving along right now, jim. i want to direct your attention to this map. it gives realtime traffic in the tri-state region. green is great. there is a lot of green on this map. orange means slow-downs. red, stop-and-goes. not so good in the philly region and baltimore. new york city, all red. it's terrible up there. whether driving for work -- >> from devin to robbinsville, new jersey. >> reporter: or hitting the roads for the holiday. >> w went from massachusetts to new jersey and we are going to secret to a smooth trip was heading out early. >> so far it's been pretty easy, yeah, yeah. pleasantly surprised. >> reporter: aaa estimates more than half a million people in the area will hit the road during this thanksgiving holiday. most will travel 50 miles or more. from last year. it's part ly attributed to a stronger economy.

by this afternoon traffic started slowing down. aaa identifying what it calls traffic hot spots across the region. including 70 east at montgomery drive. diane expected the worst and planned ahead. it worked. >> we were like shocked. that we're doing so well. >> reporter: what are you going to do with the extra time? >> cook. [ laughter ] i have a cooler packed and i am ready to go. >> reporter: aaa says that, if you haven't left yet, you might want to wait a little bit longer. right now is not the best time just because regular rush hour traffic is mixing with the holiday traffic. last year pendot reported more than 4500 crashes during the thanksgiving holiday weekend. 54 were fatalities. whenever you do hit the road, be sure to take it easy. reporting live from king of prussia, aundrea cline-thomas,

morning, right? >> oh, yeah, jim, we're feeling it right now. you'll feel it even more in a few hours. if you are headed outside, don't think about the 57 degrees we had early this afternoon. it won't feel anything like that as we go through the evening. we have clear skies across part of the area, but a lot of clouds also. those clouds not producing any precipitation. the rain that we had, way up in new england, moving into canada. there is no real weather threat over the next several days. but the temperature, yeah, that's going down. it's 46 degrees in philadelphia now. only 40 in pottstown. 30 in mount pocono. it really has dropped over the last few hours. it's going to continue to drop into the 30s. even in philadelphia over the next couple of hours. and then down near 30 by 7:00 a.m. a little bit of wind added to that, making it feel even colder. we'll see if it's going to warm

new at 6:00. rapper meek mill is hoping giving away turkeys will show he doesn't deserve to be in jail. he paid for a thanksgiving giveaway for local families today. nbc10's lauren mayk shows us how supporters hope it draws attention to his case. >> reporter: on north 52nd street the bus pulled up with a message. stand with meek mill. it's the truck behind it that drew crowds today. stocked with turkeys on the day before thanksgiving. >> meek mill. giving back to the community. >> reporter: the president and founder of unity in the community. he says he got a call from meek mill's team if and rock nation and partnered to give out the free turkeys in south philly. >> did he pay for the turkeys? >> he did. >> reporter: meek mill made a personal stop here in 2013 but this year the hip-hop artist is

he'll be home sooner than you think. today widener university students experienced firsthand the importance of giving. students in the hospitality management program prepared and served a feast today at the salvation army in chester. students raised the money to buy the food, plan the menu and prepared the meal. philadelphia's christmas village opens tomorrow. and tonight crews are putting finishing touches on thousands of twinkling lights, christmas decorations and the main stage. the outdoor holiday market is back at love park this year. it's open from thanksgiving to christmas eve. the tree is aglow at the philadelphia museum of art tonight. the museum lit its 7,000 pound white fir tree about 20 minutes ago. a beautiful sight. on pen's landing. almost time to start ice-skating. blue cross river rink opens up for the holiday season on black friday. right now at 6:00, people rushing in and out of town. skyforce10 flying live over 76

near the philadelphia zoo. doesn't look too bad out there right now. maybe people got an early start. and the weather is not causing th any travel problems. let's go to first alert meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. we're in for a cold and dry thanksgiving. >> that's right. the flags behind me are an indication of the cold air coming in right now. that will set us up. by friday the ice will be really ice for a change. it's 46 in philadelphia now. way too warm for ice. it's 30 in mount pocono. it's dropped to 41 in allentown and coatesville with that northwest wind. and that continues to be the case as we look through some of the suburbs. chester, montgomery. bucks, delaware counties. it's already down to 42 in unionville. west bradford, chester springs and gilbertsville, 43.

43 in fort washington. 40 in bedminster and richboro. we still have wind on top of that too. it feels like 39 already in philadelphia. 32 in reading. it's going to be feeling like the 20s in a couple of hours up there. so quite a difference from what we saw this afternoon. or what we felt this afternoon. a lot of clouds around but those are fair-weather clouds. radar showing no precipitation. that's up in new england. that's what got much of new jersey and delaware and a little bit of philadelphia with some rain early this morning. here we are through the evening. and temperatures going down into the 20s. even by 11:00 in some areas. again, with some wind on top of that. by morning, more places in the 20s. only nlly. then we warm up. day. middle of th are barely above 4.

it won't take much wind to make it feel like it's in the 30s. then we are back down in the 30s. even 30 degrees in allentown. shortly after dinnertime tomorrow. then we start to level off. the atmosphere starts warming up. and so, by friday morning, it's not feeling nearly as cold as thursday morning. fridayfternoon we're getting into the 50s. in many parts of the area. so things are looking up temperature-wise as we head through the weekend. so the coldest day of the weekend is tomorrow. by 9:00 a.m. 35 in philly. 45 by 3:00. a lot of sunshine all day. not a whole lot of wind. black friday is a little bit warmer. just as sunny. nice looking couple of days here. for the eagles, it will kocool f again. the winds could be a factor,
