magazine released information they've been investigating harassment claims against lauer for the past two months. the magazine says it interviewed current and former nbc employees. at least three women have come forward with allegations of sexual harassment. of course, matt lauer was the face of morning television for decades. he replaced bryant gumbel in 1997. he spent 21 years behind the averag desk before today's firing. here is his co-host breaking the news this morning. >> as i am sure you can imagine, we are devastated. we're still processing all of this. i will tell you right now, we do not know more than what i just shared with you, but we will be covering this story as reporters, as journalists. i am sure we'll learn more details in the hours and days to come, and we promise we will share that with you. >> around noon the attorney for this accuser ended up coming forward. they released a statement which

reads in part -- we want to mention, too, this is an nbc employee currently. quote. my client detailed egregious acts of sexual harassment and misconduct by mr. lauer. it is our hope that nbc will continue to do what it can to repair the damage to my client, their employee and any other person who may come forward. the attorney went to nbc's human resources and their legal department monday night. here is a statement from nbc news chairman andy lack in part. it reads, quote, while it is the first complaint about his behavior in over 20 years, he has been at nbc news, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident. our highest priority is to create a workplace environment where everyone feels safe and protected. as you could imagine at home, the legendary anchor's firing is creating a bit of a firestorm on social media. but also out in public people

are talking about it. nbc10's lauren mayk is live near 30 rockefeller plaza across the river in new york city. where plenty of people are talking, lauren. >> reporter: keith, when we stopped people today here in new york to talk about this, some of them told us, hey, we were just talking about this. others told me that they heard other people talking about it on the train. this was on people's minds today. in new york city, preparations under way for the christmas tree lighting in rockefeller center. a busy day here that started with news the "today" show's matt lauer was fired. >> breaking news overnight. matt lauer has been terminated from nbc news. >> or inappropriate sexual behavior. the news was on brandon martinez's mind as he walked through the city today. >> we were walking fifth avenue and thinking how close i was to where they tape. >> reporter: martinez says the "today" show is often on at his

home in boston. >> you feel really bad because he is so beloved. the olympics, nbc. and to hear that, it's sad, but i am proud of women having a chance to be outspoken about things that they absolutely should be able to do. >> reporter: this group of women is visiting new york from georgia. >> heartbreaking to think about it. you want to look at people and think the best of them. and then something pops up, and you are just floored because you don't know whether to believe it or not because you don't want to believe it. >> reporter: their trip here lasts until the end of the week. did it change your visit at all? >> in a way. just a feeling, you know. it kind of depresses it. other than that, new york is great. >> reporter: and as people take this information in, some told us that they have questions and they would like to hear more information about the allegations. keith, back to you.

>> lauren mayk live in new york city. we're live across the wourater. over the past few weeks we have grown accustomed of women coming out and accusing high-profile men in the workplace of behavior unfortunate. it comes to the wake of the me-too campaign. many women describe feeling like they cannot report sexual misconduct in the workplace because the man is in a high-profile position. we spoke to a local women's rights advocate who insists now is the time for action. >> not address the needs of women, half the population of the world, in our city, more than half in our city. we ask them to suck it up and bear it. no more. >> women's rights advocates believe culturally the country is experiencing a watershed moment in which no one is above reproach. >> live at liberty state park. on the new jersey side, across

it all comes after demonstrators formed a barrier along the scene of the accident during this morning's commute. they are calling for safety upgrades for bicyclists in the city. the golden medal sanitation truck involved in the collision stayed on the scene as police investigated. medics rushed frederiks to the hospital but she died a short time later. members of the biking community say now is the time for change. >> they were the highest quality bike lanes at that time, but they are severely faded. and need to be, at the very low least, repainted. they also need to be upgraded and made safer and of a higher quality. >> demonstrators say they plan to form another human protected bike lane tomorrow morning as well. police in bucks county chasing new leads in a deadly hit and run that killed a teen and injured her friend.

they have video showing the crucial moment surrounding the crash. 19-year-old jess kurtz died from her injuries. her friend seriously injured. a driver struck them monday night. according to officers the drive stopped, moved kurtz off the road and took off. >> we still believe that this ford pickup truck is involved. f-150 or 250. two-tone red and white. axle on it. black male driver. that's what we are looking for right now. >> investigators say they are receiving tips from the public and have recovered solid evidence but are still searching for the driver. crime alert at the promenade in south jersey. police released this picture of a couple wanted for stealing a woman's wallet from the panera. a short time later $1500 was already put on her credit cards at target and an apple store nearby.

these clear skies let all the warmth out at night. 36 in delaware. 34 in new jersey and along the jersey shore 40. a little cooler tomorrow because a weak front has come through and shifted the winds to the north and east. nonetheless a beautiful day tomorrow, huge changes are on the way. we will talk about that when i come back. central high school in philadelphia is receiving tens of millions of dollars towards a big renovation project. >> today school leaders announced a $42 million ex pancreas. $10 million coming from an alumnus, joseph field, the founder of intercom communications. his donation will be used for a new performing arts center. administrators say the goal is to create a world-class learning environment for future generations. >> our goal is to aspire to make every school as great as central is. and our kids deserve that opportunity. if we do that, we will send this city over the moon. >> the philadelphia school district will also contribute

just more than $8 million towards the project. other donors are putting up the rest of the money. groundbreaking is scheduled for january 2019. graduate students at penn rallied against the proposed tax reform bill currently in congress. it was a national movement to protest a plan to eliminate a tax exemption for tuition waivers for grad students. senator bernie sanders visits reading this weekend to rally against the gop tax plan. he says the legislation goes beyond taxes. sunday's rally starts at 2:00 p.m. at the santander performing arts center. tickets are not required. two philadelphia restaurants will have to pay a hefty price for not properly paying employees. >> the restaurant on pine street and on north fifth restaurants failed to pay proper overtime to more than 150 employees over four years. the restaurants now owe nearly $830,000 in back pay.

they'll also have to pay more than $10,000 in penalties. the lawsuit has left many workers with mixed emotions. >> it's a little bit bittersweet. i am happy because of my coworkers. they'll get what they deserve. the money they earned for working so hard all these years. but then again, for the place, i wish the place, from now on, they would do things different. >> we reached out to the restaurant owners to get their sides of the story. they told us they've reached a mutual agreement and can now return to providing better service to their customers. right now at 5:00, pennsylvania legislators are giving business owners who are women of color a voice in harrisburg. state representatives in upper darby as part of a listening tour. they sat down with minority business owners to find out what challenges they face and make sure they're getting the support they need. >> we want to make sure that as we develop our next budget and policies and as we develop legislation that the women -- women and girls of color who own

like theirs have access to sports programs at the fieldhouse. >> kids need somewhere to play around so they can get on the streets, don't be on the corner and stuff. play around and have fun. >> reporter: we just got out of a news conference talking about this. we're told it will generate 150 construction jobs and full and part-time construction jobs. it will be a physical therapy center and youth sports leagues have signed on. there will be a bridge from the other side of the river that will have pedestrian and bike lanes and connect with the restaurants. center. in a few hours the tree, right there, will come to life. you can watch the tree lighting right here on nbc10. tonight the holiday fun starts at 7:00.

together for the push to keep the community safe. cookstown may be home to the biggest funnel cake ever made. hundreds of people turned out to the folk festival grounds yesterday to try to get into the record books. they fried up a funnel cake 30 inches in diameter. it looks good to me. the festival says it's an american record. this is all part of a television pilot series. by the way, the guinness book of world records does not have a category for largest funnel cake. >> it will also add 30 inches to your waist if you eat it. a high flying stunt. two french wing suit flyers jumped from the swiss alps. soared through the sky and over the mountains until they glided into position and landed on board a plane in mid air. the pair took more than 100 practice flights. i am glad to know that. so they could coordinate and perfect the stunt. because you need perfection. >> wow. >> right there. that's beautiful. we continue to follow new

developing tonight, after 20 years behind the anchor desk at the "today" show, matt lauer has been fired for alleged inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace. according to nbc news, it began at the 2014 winter olympics in sochi. the attorney for lauer's accuser says he and his client met with nbc's human resources did legal department for several hours on monday. lauer was fired last night and his departure was announced on the "today" show this morning.

lauer has not publicly responded to his firing. >> the news came as a shock to "today" show co-hosts on the air this morning. hoda kotb explained how it has shaken her. >> i have known matt for 15 years and loved him as a friend and colleague, and as you were saying, savannah, it's hard to reconcile what we are hearing with the man who we know who walks in this building every day. we were both woken up with the news kind of pre-dawn and we are trying to process it and make sense of it. it will take time for that. >> right now at 5:00, team coverage, nbc10 jersey shore bureau reporter asks people what they think. >> nbc says it acted swiftly. >> reporter: nbc chairman andy lack released a statement about lauer's firing. lack says the detailed complaint filed by the current nbc employee shows that lauer

violated nbc's standards. he released this part of a statement here that we're going to show you on tv. while it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he has been at nbc news, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident. end quote. we are also hearing from the attorney of the nbc employee who made that complaint against matt lauer. here is a little bit of what that attorney had to say. quote, in fewer than 35 hours, nbc investigated and removed mr. lauer. our impression at this point is that nbc acted quickly and responsibly as all companies should very confronted with credible allegations about sexual misconduct at the workplace. end quote. at the moment we have not heard from the nbc anchor, the former nbc anchor matt lauer about these allegations of misconduct at the workplace. we are hearing from his former

parked cars and a crowded restaurant in june. fortunately no one was hurt. he pleaded guilty to dui and reckless endangerment today. man accused of vandalizing the statue of former mayor frank rizzo was supposed to go on trial but the case was pushed back. he is one of two men accused of spray painting the statue this summer with the words black power and other messages. police need help to find a man they say sexually assaulted a woman in kensington. this is the man police are looking for. the assault happened in april. the victim told police the man came into her home on emerald street, beat her, and sexually assaulted here. if you recognize him, call police. in montgomery county, a police officer directing traffic because of a crash became the victim of an accident. it happened last night. investigators say a vehicle clipped the officer along valley

learning more details tonight about the ballistic missile launched yesterday from north korea. south korean officials say the simultaneous flew ten times higher than the international space station. north korea claiming the intercontinental ballistic missile can reach anywhere in the u.s. today the u.n. security council met in an emergency session to discuss new sanctions. digital currency bit coin with a roller coaster day. surging to an all-time high exchange rate and dropping just as fast. the price surged to $10,000 for the first time today and then hit $11,000, dropping back down to about $9800. bit coin has increased its value tenfold since the beginning of the year. experts are now trying to figure out if the virtual currency is

that breaking news, in the past 30 minutes we have learned about new accusers against matt lauer. this comes as the "today" show anchor was fired after a coworker made a complaint about inappropriate sexual behavior. i am jacqueline london. >> i am jim rosenfield. in the past 30 minutes the "new york times" reported two more women have now come forward against lauer, including one who says he called her to his office and then had sex with her. in a brand-new report from "variety" claims it's found three other women who say lauer subjected them to inappropriate sexual behavior. >> one said lauer exposed himself to her inside his office. after she declined his advance, he allegedly reprimanded her for

not engaging in a sex act. the magazine conducted a two-month investigation with dozens of interviews. variety kwsays the stories were corroborated by friends and colleagues who says they were told of the incidents at the time they happened. >> nbc news chairman andy lack sent this statement to nbc about the original allegation. on monday night we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by matt lauer. it represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company's standards. as a result, we've decided to terminate his employment. while it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he has been at nbc news, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident. end quote. >> "today" show anchor savannah guthrie and hoda kotb were emotional this morning when they announced lauer's firing on air. >>
