year. he said was directed to do so by a senior member of the trump transition team. two sources tell nbc news that source was jared kushner. flynn is pledging his full cooperation in robert muller's investigation. he said my cooperation reflects a decision i made in the best interest of my family and krount. i accept full responsibility for my actions. the investigation has led to indictments against paul manafort and campaign lieutenant rick gates. another advisory, george p papadopoulos also pleaded guilty. the trump administration is also responding to this plea, white house lawyer ty cobb says the false statements that led to flynn's plea mirrored the false statements he made to white house officials which resulted

in his resignation. cobb's statement reads, nothing about the guilty plea or the charge implicates anyone other than mr. flynn. the conclusion of this phase of the special counsel's work demonstrates, again, that the special counsel's moving with all the deliberate speed and clears the way for a prompt and reasonable conclusion, end quote. lying to the fbi carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, but he won't be sentenced for several months. experts say the sentence will depend on how much he ends up cooperating with federal investigators. keith jones. the timeline here, the meetings and the lies that led thootod to today's guilty plea happened in less than two months. flynn was sworn in as national security advisory on january 22nd.

drifting through. on sunday, we're going to be looking at the low 50s, we'll see sunshine with a few clouds out there. after this, we start to see some pretty big changes on the way. i'll talk about all of that with our next chance of rain, and when you need the fluffy coats coming up. 20 minutes of non-stop news continues with one arrest in the lehigh valley that exposed a nationwide sex trafficking operation. investigators say seth mull met his victim through an online dating sites and convinced them to meet up with him. he forced them to take drugs before waking them. steven fishing er is following story. >> reporter: police arrested seth mull here in bethlehem in late october for holding a girl against her will. since he has been in custody, police have discovered mull has done this and possibly even much worse, not only here, but all over the country. police say seth mull of new jersey has been involved with

forcing women into sex trafficking for years. he was caught here in the lehigh valley when one of his would-be victims called police from the holiday inn express. she told police he attacked her and forced her to do drugs. >> she reported that mull had choked her to the point of passing out and raped her. mull also threatened her family and her friends and threatened to use her in human trafficking. >> reporter: police say an investigation revealed mull would contact young women through online dating sites. once he gained their confidence he took advantage. >> comes across as charming, compassionate, a nice guy. once he gets alone that turns opposite. >> reporter: since his arrest, four more victims have come forward. police believe there's still more out there. >> what we're seeing here is a serial predator, because we do believe that there are more young girls that have been traumatized, raped, sexually

assaulted, strangled, threatened, who may be in fear. >> reporter: police say victims from philadelphia, harrisburg, pittsburgh and other major cities across the country as far as hawaii have come forward with similar allegations against mull. steven fisher, nbc 10 news. three people were hurt when a school bus and a car crashed in philadelphia. one of the injured was a student. the bus driver and an aide were also hurt, but all are expected to be okay. this happened when the driver of the car tried to pass the bus on wyoming avenue. no charges have been filed. two people are being checked out at a hospital after they ran their suv into a building in newcastle this morning. you can see the giant hole now in the wall of the walgreen's pharmacy in the beaver brook plaza. we're told the injuries are not serious, and the store can't reopen until the wall can be reinforced. republican leaders in the senate have made changes to the tax bill saying they have enough

votes to clear the senate. gop leaders agreed to allow local property tax deductions up to $10,000, and fatter breaks for many businesses. a gop summary obtained by the associated press show that the pay for the changes, the new plan would scale back several tax cuts. president trump tweeted, republican senators are working hard to pass the biggest tax cuts in the history of our country. the bill is getting better and better. this is a once in a generation chance. obstruction as democrats block. democrats point out the plan adds $1 trillion to the national deficit. >> it's time for my republican friends to admit the error and come clean with the american people. >> our opportunity to overhaul our tax code and shift our economy into high gear. >> senate passage would push congress a step closer to the first rewrite of the nation's tax code in three decades.

less than two weeks after an nbc 10 investigation into opioid addicted babies, the governor's administration has come up with guidelines for how doctors prescribe opioids. >> mitch blocker first game o d opioid addicted newborns a voice. >> reporter: when we first introduced you'd to one month old nyla she was being weaned off percocet. >> it's sad to see your child suffering because of the choices that you made. >> reporter: her mom is now sober. today inside children's hospital, pennsylvania's acting health secretary revealed a state plan to help prevent addiction. >> we have to really learn to use opioids. >> reporter: the pennsylvania department of health is recommending safe and effective prescribing practices for babies and adolescents. they include only using opioids

for patients in chronic pain and using the shortest acting medication in the smallest dose. >> we have to balance, we don't want patients to be suffering. but we have to balance that and we have to be very careful in our opioid prescribing. >> reporter: two weeks ago the nbc 10 investigators first asked dr. rachel lavine about her plan. how do you solve a problem when you don't know how big it is? >> and certainly data like that is important. >> reporter: pennsylvania would have to make newborn opioid condition a reportable condition that starts in the doctor's office and it's something we asked her about today. have you made any progress in making infant opioid addiction a reportable condition? >> it's an important point

you've brought up before. we're looking at trying to develop a faster way regulation change to make that reportable. we'll be looking forward to that committee providing us a report. >> do you have any timeline? >> we are hoping in 2018. >> reporter: several other states have been tracking opioid addicted newborns. they have actually been able to decrease the number of babies they have seen addicted, which begs the question why that's not happening in pennsylvania. and also we're looking at a major change coming to the way that opioid addiction is prosecuted in philadelphia. we talked in depth with the newly elected district attorney. he says the pharmaceutical companies are on his list. that's coming up at 6:00. >> so fair warning to them. tracking these babies is key in

terms of trying to control that part of this problem? >> absolutely you can't target a problem. you can't decide where to put your resources, your money, your counselors have you do not know where it exists. >> you'll continue to follow this, thanks. >> you can watch mitch's entire report about babies born addicted and who is looking out for them right now on the nbc 10 app. there's new hope tonight for people desperate to kick an opioid addiction. federal health officials have approved a once a month injection of a drug designed to help. it reduces cravings during withdrawal. experts hope it will reduce relapses. in pennsylvania today, a call on congress to reauthorize the children's health insurance program or c.h.i.p. representatives met at penn state children's hospital in hershey. more than 178,000 children in pennsylvania get low cast healthcare coverage. congress missed the deadline in

september to reauthorize funding for that program. >> with every day that goes by, our concern increases. we need congress to act quickly. so kids and their families are no longer left wondering whether they're going to have healthcare at the end of january. >> c.h.i.p. is available for families whose income is above 133% of the federal poverty level. new details about a deadly crash that killed a south jersey teenager. the driver involved in the accident is now charged with aggravated manslaughter. his name has not been released because he was a juvenile at the time. he was driving a stolen vehicle when it crashed into the back of a tractor trailer on route 130 last month. his 15-year-old passenger was killed. an emotional morning for the wilmington fire department. nbc 10 at the fire station in the trolley square neighborhood, that's where crewed honored lieutenant arty hope. lieutenant hope died two months after she was injured, fighting

this row home far that killed two of her colleagues. christopher leach died searching for the victims, jerry ficus was killed trying to save leach. people around the world are making world aids day by making awareness of aids. nbc 10 was at the 9th annual prayer breakfast. this morning, they honored people who died from aids and hiv and those who are living with aids. royal watchers in england lined up early today to catch a glips of prin glimpse of prince harry and his fiancee. it was the couple's first public outing since news of their engagement broke. it's a tradition for british royals called the walk aabobout. they handed her flowers and

gifts. >> she was so friendly and she's a beautiful person. i think she's just going to be -- going to do a great job. >> the couple marked world aids day and stopped by a youth program that prince harry founded several years ago. the student run emergency housing unit of philadelphia has a new go to be able to help people who have pets. we were there with the group as they took a look at one of its potential locations for a new shelter. the group says helping people who have pets is a challenge. >> part of the reason that shelters aren't able to house dogs and cats, is because of their locations. they're often located in buildings that don't permit animals to be there at all. so we are trying to take that under our own control by buying our own building. >> they want to have a new place ready to go in february. 20 minutes of non-stop news continues with a holiday tradition at penn's landing tonight nbc 10 will help flip the switch on the christmas tree

here at the blue cross river rink. that's where rosemary connors is joining us live. >> a lot of people out there? >> reporter: they're slowly starting to come down to penn's landing. people getting out of school, getting out of work. this is one of the premier events of winter fest here. you can see the tree right here, 40 feet tall. adorned in lights. just a few hours from now they'll be sparkling. beneath the tree you see the river rink. a few folks out here getting in a few last skates around the rink out here, looking good. and, of course, the stage is being set for all of the festivities and entertainment. here's a preview of what you can expect. ♪ ♪ tis the season for ice skating and tree lighting. >> i think santa should do it. >> reporter: families will flock to the blue cross river rink tonight to watch the tradition of flipping the switch. tens of thousands of twinkling

this is just incredible video here. hit and run crash in illinois and it turned into a fiery scene. several police officers also became heroes. dash cam video is what you're looking at. it shows the flaming vehicle on the side of the road. officers reached the man inside but he refused to get out, so

>> that's from the republican national convention when flynn led chants of lock her up, saying the country did not need a president who believed she was above the law. all right, right now at 4:30, a rare earthquake in delaware that rattled our entire region. >> many of you called our nbc 10 news room yesterday moments after you felt the shockwaves. we brought you that breaking news as it was happening. the quake struck north of dover yesterday, shortly before 5:00 p.m. nbc 10 delaware bureau reporter tim furlong is live in woodland beach, kent county to describe why this was so unique. >> reporter: yeah, everybody around here says they heard a big boom. they thought a plane had crashed. it was an earthquake and was centered a mile and a half from where we're standing. >> it was almost like a loud bang and then a series of rumbles. >> reporter: the earthquake struck four miles directly below

the wildlife management area. >> it took a big shift to the level originally, and then come right back again. >> reporter: at the delaware geological survey office in new jersey, the folks who monitor earthquakes they felt it today. >> my colleague said did you feel that, that was an earthquake. >> reporter: this office at the university of delaware has all sorts of censors up and down the state keeping an ear out for quakes. their techs picked it up including the aftershocks. >> these are shock waves that would go through the earth. >> reporter: there have been dozens of quake under delaware since the 1870s, thursdays was the biggest since 1871. there were a bunch of small ones near wilmington in the 1970s, this boulder, it's the exact kind of rock that probably shifted thursday. >> there must have been an accumulation of stresses deep

as more and more states change marijuana laws, more children are accidently eating edible marijuana products. many products look like regular old candy. and the results of a new study has experts urging er doctors to be on the lookout for signs of

out there. 54. that was our high today. didn't pick up any rain. our highest wind gust, 22 miles per hour. 52 in philadelphia, 47 in pittsburgh. 56 in d.c. we should see 50 for a daytime high. certainly not be 52 as we head into the 5:00 hour. 50 in allentown, 45 in coatesville. 52 in dover. 51 in wildwood. for tonight we'll drop down into the 20s and 30s. 34 in philadelphia, 33 wilmington. allentown, 28. and we'll see 32 in atlantic city. we have clear skies, so all of our warmth is headed out into the atmosphere once again. but those temperatures are seasonal. or even above. we don't have anything on the doppler radar. as we look at pennsylvania we barely see clouds starting to streak in to the western portion of the state. all of those clouds, they're associated with a little system that stays to the north and the great lakes. further to the west is the system we're going to be watching.

that's the one that's in seattle for tonight and tomorrow and hopefully clearing out in time for sunday. even though the weather isn't going to be a big factor there. on the playing field. it's nice to know we'll have decent weather. let's walk you through the next several days. as we head through 6:30, we'll drop into the 40s. overnight we'll drop into the 30s. 9:00 tomorrow morning, 38 in philadelphia, 35 in allentown, 40 in millville. now, by the time we get to the afternoon, high thin clouds streak through. 46 to 50 in philadelphia. it's going to be a little cooler tomorrow. we'll see 40 to 45 in allentown and we'll see probably close to 50 in millville. the clouds clear out, we actually on sunday make it into the low and mid 50s. it's going to be lovely on monday. we're pushing at 1:30 in the afternoon, 48 easily, we're going to make it into the low 50s and high pressure is in control for all three days. and then that goes away because that storm system comes in from the west coast. tonight, we're looking at 29 in the suburbs, 30 in the lehigh
