>> several roads are closed because of a police investigation. authorities tell us a suspect whom they were trying to serve a warrant on is now barricaded inside of the house. the home is along pond road in bristol. as you can see police even ambulances are out there on the scene. they have shut down a few intersections in the area. several homes have been evacu e evacuated. all schools have been placed on lockdown as a result. brandon hudson is on the way to the scene. he'll have a live report and will bring you new information. let's head out west. firefighters are taking a beating trying to control raging wildfires in sosh. the winds are spreading the flames across hillside and neighborhoods. about,000 homes with without power. 5,000 firefighters are battling the flames. the fires are only 5% contained. a long way to go.

steven fisher is in ven nis, california, not too far from a the u infer no. >> reporter: the same cannot be be said across southern california. the wildfires continue to burn. more people being forced to e c evacuate their homes and the air quality around here beginning to become a huge concern. the fight against the flames is hand to hand comment. across southern california. there's nothing anyone could do. >> the rolling flames racing through more than 100,000 acres taking with them hundreds of homes. cars, power lines and everything in their path pushed by severe winds gust iing at times to hurricane strength. >> this is a point you have to pack up and go. >> more than 200,000 families have been e evacuated. >> need to get out of here.

next couple days. that will bring the humidity up and that threat of the very dry desert winds screaming through here will die down. dry cbs will still exist and people will be slow to make it wac to their homes. a lot of the areas will be closed until people know exactly what's safe. let's take a look at the wildfires and what's going on. specifically right now, we're going to walk through them one by one. 7,000 acres burned. this is 15% contained. this has awhile to go. 5200 structures are threaten bed. the creek fire over 12,000 acres burned. we have the new eest fire that' threatening parts of brentwood. 475 acres burned. e evacuations are in progress with this one. the thomas fire with 96,000 acres burned. 15,000 structures are

compacter at the baltic plaza apartment high-rise in atlantic city after authorities say she survived being thrown down the garbage chut from ten stories up. >> i'm disgusted. >> the property manager showing this surveillance owe to atlanta california animal cruelty investigator today. she's confident that's one of the cat's hind legs you see dangle iing from a trash bag as woman carry it is to the chute on the tenth floor. the woman is is seen leaving moments later empty handed and returns with a mab bringing more garbage bags. the woman is seen bringing what appears to be a litter box to the trash chute. >> it's one of the lowest lows that can happen. >> the cat discovered shaken but unhurt. the machine had gotten stuck after trash backed up inside.

by the weekend and by next week. so the next 24 hours are nice and quiet. temperatures 44 at the airport. 38 in pottstown. 32 in mount pocono where they are cranking out the manmade snow trying to get the ski season on the way. there's a piece of energy that comes through tonight. it comes through dry and it's just cloudy skies. it's the second piece of energy that i'm looking out for here. by the time we get into friday night and through the day on saturday, when you see winter weather alerts down in atlanta and louisiana, that's kind of the heads up we need to watch

it happened an officer shot a man accused of threatening a woman with a meat cleaver. the camden county prosecutor tells us no charges will be fired against the officer who opened. the man b with the cleaver survived the shooting and was charged with making terroristic threats. a school has been closed since october because of mold. we have been following this story for months now. white hall elementary school will reopen in january. mold concerns closed all schools earlier this year. the two of them opened the following week. >> the state auditor general finds mismanagement in the parking authority that cost the public schools nearly $78 million. the district is supposed to get the money from fines. according to the audit, some of the money was dpoing to pay large salary increases for executives. the audits also raised concerns

minnesota senator al franenn is is stepping down. he will resign in the coming weeks following misconduct allegations. a new allegation brings a number of women accusing him of misconduct to eight. the fresh allegation unleashed a tart of calls from fellow colleagues urging him to resign. franken made the announcement today on the senate floor not before taking shots at president

since apologized to her many times. with increased accusations of sexual harassment in washington, a pennsylvania lawmaker is on a panel aimed all the making changes to the workplace. bob brady was at a hearing today talking about preventing sexual harassment. the hearing focused on ways to make it easier to report and the best tiss to raise awareness in the place. >> we need to improve this process. but most important, we need to change the culture of this place and that will start with us. >> the panel is working to reform that accountability act. that has not happened since it was established in 1995. sexual harassment scandals are also rocking hollywood like the accusations against harvey weinstein and the academy of motion picture arts and sciences has issued a new coast of conduct for its members. that's according to "usa today." daub hudson e-mailed members informing them of the new

so we're at 37 degrees by midnight. by the time you get up tomorrow morning, it's 32 degrees. you definitely need dress for that kind of chill. that's the quiet part of our weather. now on to what will become the busy part of our weather. this is the chilly air. this is the southern storm we're dealing with. snowing in parts of southwest texas and even in the hills of mexico. and we have winter storm warnings in southern mississippi where they are worried about 2 or 3 irvelgs of snow. around here it's not a big deal, but they don't have the equipment to remove it. it's a big system for there. we have the clouds increase iin tomorrow. no snow during the day tomorrow. now this is just one model. this model keeps us relatively dry through saturday early morning and then brings light snow up through the area along the coast here by saturday and

out of here by sunday. some of the other models are more aggressive. so in the next half hour, i'll give you our best guess of snowfall amounts. but this is what i'm thinking. the steadier to the south and east. slushy accumulation is possible on the grassy surfaces and we'll continue to watch the trends. if they shift to the west, we could be looking at higher amounts. it's just an hour by hour situation tammie souza will be back at 11:00 tonight. you can expect this throughout your weekend. not a big storm on saturday. brighter day on sunday. >> we're helping families in need this holiday season. today van guard employees loaded up hundreds of bikes, toys, clothing, electronics at its warehouse. they will be delivered to families throughout the valley. baking memories.

a security guarded through a apartment on the front door. police say it started when the guard saw three women stealing from a mall. >> the guard followed the woman to an suv outside. when he confronted them, they sped off dragging him. the guard is expected to be okay. investigators did identify one of the suspects. a judge had sentenced a philadelphia man to 100 years in prison for sex trafficking. >> court documents show he used force, threats, fraud and coercion to cause the young women to engage in prostitution. the judge ordered him more than $640,000 in restitution. internet gambling at new jersey horse racing tracks took another step towards becoming a reality. the state assembly passed a bill to allow tracks to offer online gambling on their premises. the measure heads to the senate for approval. officials are talking about expanding the hours for alcohol sales on sundays.

the ordinance would allow stores to sell alcohol on sundays from 11:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening. right now you can only buy liquor from noon until 4:00 on sund sundays. some local unions are working together to help the people of puerto rico still struggling after hurricane maria. >> workers helped to collect 0,000 of e relief splice for those still struggling. the items will be loaded on to a car go plane. it will leave tomorrow morning. it has been two and a half months now since the hurricane hit. and people in puerto rico still living without power. right now the puerto rico electric power authority say it is will not meet the governor's goals of restoring 95% of power to residents by next friday. they now expect full power grid to be restored in february. right now 66% of residents on the island do have electricity. td bank is is facing a class action lawsuit in federal court

normal non. i have seen that on a number of dash cams. it's really cool. so what's happening here is that meteor is traveling into the at months fear at 25,000 miles per hour. it's heating up the atmosphere. no fireballs tonight. that's good news. but plenty of traffic on the expressway. what else is new. we have clear skies to partly cloudy skies. for the next 24 hours, our weather is really not that active. which is certainly good for a friday. the clouds are thickening up. overnight lows in the 20s and the 30s. you'll notice the breeze steps down overnight tonight.

of identification. residents have been asking for these i.d.s. in camden county, the college dream is within sight for some students. the academy is up to unique scholarship program today. the students have the opportunity to earn full scholarships to rutgers university if they maintain a 3.5 grade point average through school. they can't have more than four ub excused absences. philadelphia high school students were looking to the future in center city. students got to explore college options at the state system of higher education college fair. the students also got help filling out their free application for federal student aid. one of the biggest challenges for low income students that they face. finally, traffic is moving again in buck. s county after that tract tractor-trailer spilled a shipment of vodka. it blocked traffic for hours.

they are socked in there. some areas could see two feet of snow. now here in philadelphia, it's cold outside. we're closely watching the chance of the first flakes of the season for many of us. so we are talking some snow showers. >> you're not measuring in teet. your first snow of the season was always a big deal. we'll walk you through that and what to expect here. it will be a messy saturday meaning that you don't want to wear your good outfit or wardrobe out and about. your latest headlines tonight is just gray and chilly. there could be some flurries south and east by friday night. as early as then but the steadier snow comes in here on saturday. that's south and east.

i think i-95 is really the dividing line between the steadier snow and rain versus little to nothing north and west of the city. and then the story becomes shots of cold that come in here so we are locked into the cold pattern all the way through next week here. after a record warm november, nothing like that here in december. we really flipped it around. temperatures in northern new castle county at this hour are in the low to middle 40s. this is what you'd expect for this time of year. headed down toward the beach, temperatures around 40 degrees. a live look outside. we have a nice, clear, dry condition out there right now. no issues on the roadways. you can see this disturbance moving through pennsylvania. it has a couple flurries with it. these flurries will peter out through the overnight hours. something that won't pete out is the storm system to the south. it's not impressively strong. it's just very large in nature. and covering a lot of real estate. it's bringing winter weather and

these are winter weather alerts in the white purple here from the mexico border up to atlanta and into areas of the appalachians in south and north carolina. so it's a winter system that has some potential to deliver several types of precipitation. let's walk you through hour by hour as we watch the storm from south to north. it's not tomorrow during the day. it's tomorrow night and especially on saturday. you can see this white shade here. that light, steady snow through south engineer. also look at the temperatures. 34 degrees. that means the snow would not be sticking on the road surfaces. but on the grassy surfaces. your car tops, the normally colder spots. so after you get through 5:00 at night, the temperature chills down a little bit and you have the solar radiation from the sun. you can see an inch or two. we'll watch it. if this shifts to the west, we have more issues to the south and east. we have less issues than that.
