car after she just took her sick son to meet santa. >> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. and we begin tonight with our first snow of the season. this same system dumping snow in texas, it's coming our way. this was a few hours ago at texas a&m stadium. and this from san antonio, the region saw an inch of snow. 24 hours away from our first plaeks. i'm erin coleman, and meteorologist tammy souza tracking what's coming. >> this is the storm system, look how big it is, snowing the southwest texas, snowing in northern mexico, now snowing across parts of mississippi and louisiana. this is all going to be headed our way. they have lots of winter storm warnings and watching out there. mixes of ice and snow and let's watch this system. this is going to be approaching

this ordeal came to a peaceful end. >> the standoff happened right here. you see the busted window and the glass all over the sidewalk, right below my feet. one man's actions put schools and an entire neighborhood on lockdown as families couldn't go home or they couldn't leave home. after a standoff, which lasted about six hours, the sight of nicholas napoli in handcuffs helped keisha wood breathe a sigh of relief. >> didn't want do leave knowing my brother and dad were right here. >> wood was one of several neighbors not allowed to go home as this man barricaded himself inside a home near pond street. it forced nearby schools into lockdown. >> i had to wait a while for my daughter and when she came out she was crying. >> investigators believe he had weapons inside the house so they called in s.w.a.t. >> i can't tell your mom and dad -- >> an officer could be heard on the loud speaker trying to

negotiate a peaceful resolution. at one point s.w.a.t. tried to get in the house but a sofa was propped against the door. officers also broke a first-floor window. minutes later they got inside and found napoli along with a woman believed to be his exfwoif. >> our actions are done further utmost safety of the public and utmost safety of the officers and utmost safety of the suspect. >> reporter: the police chief didn't say if he found any weapons or if his offer officers found any weapons. police are working to find out the connection that napoli has to that hit and run. i'm brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. a fire tonight, flames shooting through the roof. about an hour to get the fire under control. no one was hurt. delaware county where a man says he was attacked for no reason. the victim was outside a salvation army when a group of

teens jumped him and broke his nose. nbc 10's aaron baskerville talked to the victim about the frightening encounter. >> why are they attacking homeless people? we're homeless. what are you going to get from me. >> he's recovering from a broken sneeze and bumps and bruises. the 60-year-old was outside wednesday night talking to a few others in the common area at the homeless shelter at the salvation army. that's when he claims for no reason a group of teens, boys and girls, went on the attack. >> they didn't take nothing from me, just hit me. you know, i guess, for kicks. >> chester police tell us they believe five to six teenagers were involved in this attack wednesday night around 7:30. we're told they walked right up to him at the shelter on 15th street and started fighting. mark french was outside at the time and claims he was also beat up. >> they claimed up on top of the table and started hitting us.

bob ended up with a broken nose. i have a couple lumps on my ahead and a pair of broken glasses. >> the salvation army workers say it's the second attack. a man and woman were attacked around a corner by a large group of teens near the family dollar. with blood still on his sweatshirt, he's trying to focus on other things right now and forget about what happened. >> are you mad? >> yeah, i'm mad, but, you know, you've still got to survive. you know, i mean, i'm still alive. >> as you can see over here the shelter does have surveillance cameras. unfortunately it did not capture this attack. one of the suspects dropped their phone and that was handed over the police. in chester, erin baskerville, nbc 10 news. >> a man and woman are in critical condition in the hospital after they were shot in kensington. the shooting happened near the corner of g street and east allegheny avenue. the woman was hit four times,

twice in the chest. police recovered two weapons but no arrests have been made. investigators say tonight's shooting happened feet from the scene of a murder that happened a few days ago. new accusations out of hollywood, the director of x men is accused of sexual assault. a man filed a lawsuit against brian singer, the man says singer sks yulely assaulted him on a yacht 15 years ago when he was a teenager. tonight singer's rep says he categorically denies the allegations, and he will fight the lawsuit. a south jersey pastor is charged with sexually assaulting children for more than a decade. reverend harry thomas is the head pastor at the come alive church in medford. he's the founder of a popular christian music festival. he's charged with sexually assaulting four girls under the age of 13. he's been suspended from the church, and from the festival. a chester county woman claims she was assaulted by a man in a road rage incident that

happened monday in upper providence township. her two kids were in the backseat of the car. the man got out of his car and punched her. the suspect was driving a dark gray or navy chrysler 300. six massive wildfires are burning in southern california with no control in sight. the latest sparked up north of san diego. the lilac fire has grown to 4,000 akers. this is a live look right now at the fires burning, officials say more than 1,000 structures are now in its path. governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency for san diego county. now, the largest wildfire continues to wreak havoc in venn tour a county. more than 400 structures have burned and thousands more are in jeopardy. a government shutdown has been asserted for now.

a vote has been -- it gives republicans and democrats time to work out a deal for several big issues, including immigration. the funding lasts through december 22nd. arizona congressman trent franks says he is resigning amid possible sexual harassment. he made two women in his office uncomfortable by discussing his interest in finding a surrogate mother. frank's resignation is effective january 31st. now, franks is the third member of congress to step aside this week following accusations of sexual misconduct. he joins minnesota senator al franken who announced today he will leave office at the end of the year. >> i know in my heart that nothing i have done as a senator, nothing has brought this honor on this institution.

>> franken's decision follows a wave of sexual misconduct allegations, a total of eight women have accused the democrat on unwanted touching, groping and forcible kisses. franken flatly denied some of those allegations today and said he remembers other encounters differently. new at 11:00, christmas came early for thousands of families in the school district of philadelphia. >> we all won the lottery. there were smiles and tears as several families learned they will be receiving kindergarten through eighth grade scholarships to attend private school. 2,000 students in all were chosen by a random lottery. the scholarships were made possible by the children's scholarship fund of philadelphia. a school bus driver caught on video clipping several cars thought he just hit a bump in the road. we first showed you the video last night at 11:00. the driver for sag bus company just kept ongoing.

the co-owner of the bus company says the matter was aaddressed internally. meanwhile philadelphia police are trying to determine if the driver will be given a ticket. when it comes to giving tickets, philadelphia's parking authority doesn't miss a beat, but the state's auditor general says philadelphia's public schools are paying the biggest price. an audit shows the ppa costs the district nearly $78 million. the district is supposed to get the money from fines, but according to the audit some of that money was instead going to pay large salary increases at the ppa. next on nbc 10 news at 11:00, a slam dunk before the game. you'll want to stay up to hear what 6ers star ben simmons did for a fan. a cat tossed down the trash chute. someone wasn't in the christmas spirit. a mother took her sick son to meet santa at the mall. the message left on her car window now has her outraged.

first lady melania trump visited children's national hospital in washington, d.c. this afternoon. she was escorted by two patients and santa claus. the first lady read to the kids from the polar express. she spent time meeting patients and families and staff members. impressive as ben simmons has been on the basketball court, tonight the 6ers rookie showed his worth off of it. he granted a young fan's wish before the 6ers tipped off against the lakers. this man has becker muscular dystrophy. he met simmons on the court tonight tanks to the make a wish foundation. he chatted with him and presented him an official 6ers jersey. the 16-year-old spoke briefly about meeting his favorite player. >> hey. >> prior to meeting simmons

grassy areas is where it's going to stick. it should melt on the roadways. hardest hit, with the one to three inches of slushy snow would be delaware and south jersey, maybe as far north and west as philadelphia and lower pennsylvania suburbs. we'll be watching the final track very closely. it is pretty far away from us. nothing going on here in the philadelphia area, nothing in the le high valley, nothing in jersey, nothing in delaware. places like eerie, they have winter storm warnings and watches out. they stretch all across the southern u.s. it's going to northern mexico, southwest texas, alabama and mississippi, and we'll be watching the system. very elongated, going to take a while to get past us. it's going to curve out along the coastline. this is the first model i'll show you, the north american

model. starts as a rain snow mix, late friday night, early saturday morning. temperatures above freezing, philadelphia right at freezing, we may see know and we may see it all the up in the lehigh valley, and how much that one said we'll get, more than three inches in philadelphia, five inches in millville. let's check our other one. this is the rapid precision model, in-house model. what it does, it starts out in the same place, brings the snow to south jersey and delaware. with the temperature profile it doesn't make it quite to philadelphia, maybe flurries for us, maybe the slushy snow for south jersey and delaware, and it's out of here. out very early sunday morning. an inch to two inches, nothing but flurries is what we're looking at in philadelphia.

amazingly the animal survived. tonight investigators in atlantic city are looking for the people in this surveillance video. you can see one of the cats legs dangling from the trash bag as a woman carries it to the chute. the compactor got stuck saving the cat's life. the cat is now at a foster home. check this out, a fire ball in the sky. a police officer recorded the video. if you also caught the flash of light, the american meteor society confirms it was indeed a meteor that exploded in the atmosphere. next, sports. well, the 6ers were ice cold in the first half, another trip to heartbreak hotel as lonzo ball and the lakers get the "w." carson wentz, go-to, back to the field today. up next.
