this is a live look at the wilmington skyline. the heaviest snow expected further south in the first state. in philadelphia, the roads could get slippery when several inches fall tomorrow. you're looking live at i-95 in south philly and broad street in center city. you'll definitely want to be careful if you're out driving. in the lehigh valley, we are expecting the least amount of snow believe it or not. this is a live look right now at allentown tonight. we're bringing you live team weather coverage. we'll begin with first alert meteorologist tammie souza with all the important timelines. >> you know, tonight, already we're starting to see the snow fall in southern delaware and along the jersey shore. especially in south jersey. we're all going to be affected by it, pennsylvania suburbs, philadelphia, new jersey, and delaware. especially new jersey and delaware. i think that's where we'll see our highest amounts. when? now through about 2:00 in the morning we'll see it cranking up across south jersey and delaware. we're already seeing it in southern delaware and along the

jersey shore. between 2:00 and the morning and 7:00 that's when philadelphia will see flurries and light snow developing. this is going to be a long lived event, tonight through sunday night. about 18 hours of potential snow. it will be light snow, steady snow. we're not expecting thundersnow and it is going to be a wet snow that comes down. a light snowfall but a wet snow that comes down. slippery travel. we'll see icy roads on the back side of this entire thing. here's a look at what's going on with this right now. you can see the snow already moving through southern delaware, lewis, dover, you have rain. smyrna, rain, wilmington, rain, even into west chester, the suburbs seeing light showers right now. cape may, we are looking and through wildwood up to atlantic city, we're looking at some light snow, this is melting when it hits the ground. we go into new jersey, you can see deerfield, maybe light showers there.

salem, you're dry. bridgeton, light showers. we're not looking at a bunch of snow across the entire area right now. but we will, look at this system it's all the way back to atlanta. here is our snow timeline, we're going to wind up with about four inches of so in philadelphia. the old record, 2.9 inches for tomorrow. at 5:00 in the morning, a half inch, 2:00, three inches. 8:00 tomorrow morning, 4.3 inches. snow already starting to fall at the jersey shore. this is a viewer video showing flakes flying there in cape may courthouse. in south jersey, the d.o.t. was one step ahead of the snow. crews starting to pretreat the roads a few days ago, now they're out state-wide trying to keep you safe. we found shoppers at stores stocking up on food for the weekend. if you're planning to fly out of philadelphia international tonight or tomorrow, you are

definitely going to want to check with your carrier before you head to the airport. this is a live look there right now. the airport says its snow operations team is ready for anything. let's continue our live team coverage now with a stop in delaware, nbc 10's george spencer joins us in claymount tonight. >> reporter: del dot is responsible for 90% of the roads in the state. they have their work cut out for them this weekend. it's work that will really vary across the state from south to north. either way, delaware's first winter storm of the season now, on the approach. that hum is the sound of this massive brine truck reloading. del dot has been spraying the anti-icing solution on roads across the state all day. a major preparation for the season's first winter storm, a storm that some here say snuck up on them sooner than they

expected. too early or what? >> i don't know if it's too early but i ain't ready for the snow right now. i know that much for real. >> with the expected timing of the storm later this evening we have crews on sunday. >> reporter: the crews could total as many as 500 people in a significant winter storm. for tomorrow, the department is planning an agile approach. after brining roads today, they'll be prepared to plow where necessary tomorrow with an eye towards the southern part of the state, possibly being hit harder. and the response will evolve with the storm. >> we are monitoring conditions in realtime. and as needed, we get out and we're checking the roads and salting and plowing as needed. >> reporter: as the first snowfall of the season approaches, del dot says it has 45,000 tons of road salt stored up. this afternoon we found other state workers fuelling up the truck that will be used for a smaller plowing job tomorrow. >> we'll get it ready for

tomorrow. >> reporter: a few pumps away catherine was preparing to get out of town. she has the type of vehicle you'd want for snowy travel. >> i'm ready. it's past due. >> reporter: past due? >> definitely. >> reporter: so all the major arterial roads should be brined before the snow starts to fall. that should help with the icing. officials here promise us that as soon as a plowable amount of snow is on the ground, the plows will be out. that is the latest live tonight in delaware. george spencer, nbc 10 news. thank you. out in the suburbs, businesses are getting ready for the onslaught of customers looking to buy shovels, salt, sand and other supplies. one of the places scrambling, christmas tree sellers. they reca they'll try to ship out the trees as fast as they can before they get too wet. you won't want to leave your house tomorrow morning before you check in with nbc 10. wake up with our first alert team on nbc 10 news today,

starting at 5:00 tomorrow morning. take the free nbc 10 app with you, no matter where you go this weekend. stay ahead of the storm with our free interactive radar and get the personalized snow forecast right for your neighborhood. right now at 6:00, the philadelphia police officer is recovering at home after being accidently hit by a bullet. a fellow officer fired that shot at a dog that attacked an 80-year-old woman. it all happened inside a home in north philadelphia. nbc 10's aundrea cline-thomas explains how the bullet ricochetted into the officer. >> reporter: philadelphia police looked at the shattered glass on the screen door of a home. they arrived 12:30 this afternoon to help an 80-year-old woman who was being attacked by a dog. police say the dog belonged to the woman's granddaughter. >> they did what they had to do to save the lady. >> reporter: one officer shot the dog two or three times. >> looks like it was a ricochetted shot.

right now at 6:00, we're tracking our first snowstorm of the season. this is our live camera showing cape may. and you can see the snow moving into the rest of our area right now on the first alert radar. it will start across most of our area overnight. conditions are calm right now in philadelphia as we look live in center city. this is our kimmel city campus

camera. but that will change soon. we're going to time out the snow for you where you live in just about two minutes. but first, a family's american dream shattered tonight. parents who have livered in cumberland county for decades were deported this morning after losing their battle with u.s. immigration officials. telemundo 62 was there as they left for mexico. >> reporter: it was an meteorologist day for the family as they were deported today. our camera followed each and every step of the way as they boarded their 6:30 flight leaving behind a life of almost 30 years behind. it was a somber day for the family as their unit of five was torn apart this morning. >> i feel very sad. very sad. more for my kids. than -- i never think this going

to happen. >> reporter: they lost their long battle with i.c.e. today as they voluntarily left everything behind. their three kids standing by as a large group of bridgeton community member said showed support. >> he cried. they say, mom, i love you. i stay with you. you'll be fine. >> reporter: over the last 48 hours, their parish prayed for a miracle to stop their departure. a testament to what they say is a broken immigration system. >> here's a perfect example where you have three kids, one 15 years old, 22 years old, and 24 years old, that are here in the united states by themselves. and the parents had to go back to mexico this morning. it's unacceptable. >> we're going to change that. we're going to have a big

responsibility for my little brother and maintaining the house, my dad's business. >> reporter: the family tells us they manage today obtain working permits and after multiple check ins with i.c.e. they were told to leave. their faith will be the drive through this rough chapter. >> god bless you america. >> reporter: the church did give news for the family. they're donating airfare for all three of the kids to spend christmas with the parents in mexico. a gift they'll grateful for but they'll fight to get both of their parents back in the country as quickly as possible in a legal manner. newark liberty airport, nbc 10 news. back now to our first alert weather coverage as we brace for the first snowstorm of the season as army faces navy during their pregame tug of war competition aboard the battleship new jersey. many may be wondering how tomorrow's weather may affect

the game. let's go to first alert meteorologist tammie souza. >> dress warmly, i think we'll see the field covered with snow out there tomorrow for that game. it will be a slip and slide one for sure. outside right now, it's a beautiful looking night. we have the clouds in place. they are kind of a heavy weighted looking gray cloud. loaded up with moisture and that snow yet to come. today our high was 37. right now we're at 37. it feels like 32. the humidity 44%. so the atmosphere still has to moisten just a little bit. the winds out of the west and northwest, they're going to turn more northerly and we'll see cooler air filtering in. the system is going to pull colder air into the region. right now we have sprinkles, not so much in philadelphia. but we also have them in delaware county, chester county, parts of northern delaware. southern delaware already looking at this snow. now, a lot of it is melting when it hits the ground. it's coming down as big flakes

from millsboro all the way over to the jersey shore. the rest of the area will see snow developing later tonight. the band of snow has to come through and it stretches from atlanta all the way up to our area. as we go hour by hour, watch what happens. we stay pretty dry in philadelphia. until about 4:00, 5:00 in the morning. then the temperature drops enough and the storm system lifts a little bit further north and west. that's when we see the first flakes flying here. we'll wait to see those first flakes flying a little later in the morning between 9:00 and 11:00 for the suburbs and the lehigh valley and the poconos. watch the temperatures. they are right around the freezing mark. we'll see that snow sticking here in philadelphia. we'll see it going back and forth between a snow and rain mix, right along the jersey shore and the beaches of delaware. but inland in delaware, you should see the heaviest amounts, inland delaware and inland south

jersey. places like salem county and cumberland county. 10:30 tomorrow night, flurries. 1:00 in the morning, we're blo w freezing. we're looking at our rapid precision model forecast totals right around four inches in philadelphia. two in the poconos, three to four inches for south jersey and southern delaware. that's where we'll see the mixing coming. that's probably a fairly accurate amount. we have the north american model, which is a little more robust. five inches in philadelphia, three in the poconos, eight to nine in south jersey and delaware. i think a lot of that is going to melt. i don't think we'll see totals that will quite that high in that area. here's your ten day on 10. 34 tomorrow, dropping to the freezing mark. snow should start predawn in philadelphia. 38 on sunday. we'll see melting going on there 42 on monday. what hasn't melted will likely melt there , 41 tuesday.

italian market. we're talking inches. >> we're talking inches. we're not used to inches. always the first snow of the season is a little bit messy. that's what we'll deal with. let's take a look at what's going on with the radar. our radar shows there is snow mixing with rain and falling in southern delaware. also south jersey and the jersey shore. this whole system has to which through. look at that, it stretches all the way back to atlanta and past that. we're talking about a snow event that's going to last 18 hours. from now as it creeps northward and finally makes it into philadelphia by 4:00 in the morning and into the suburb swz can the lehigh valley by 11:00, 12:00 tomorrow. lasts all the way into tomorrow night. finally exiting the area by very, very early on sunday morning. we're talking about the potential of anywhere from to four to six inches in places in south jersey and delaware. and perhaps anywhere from two to four inches philadelphia and the suburbs, a little bit lesser amounts toward the lehigh valley.
