>> announcer: nbc 10 news start now. right now at 6:00, inch by inch, the first snowstorm of the season is slowly adding up. we're not out of the woods just yet, as more snow falls, tonight's concern could be black ice on the road. and this is a live look at the current situation in center city. the snow not letting up anytime soon. some parts of the region saw more than 8 inches so far. here is a different vantage point. you can see the snow coming down at a pretty good clip there. we have a team of reporters who spent all afternoon covers new jersey, delaware and pennsylvania. we start with steve sos nom a,

we still have more? >> it's a winter wonderland outside. it is not that bad of an evening out on the major roadways. they've been treated repeatedly. if you're on the secondary or tertiary streets, that's a whole different story. we do have slippery spots and not all of them have been treated. through about midnight tonight, that's because of the black ice formation, some slippery road surfaces that have not been plowed. the steady snow will come to an end by midnight. to the west it will be even earlier than that. this has been an interesting camera to look at all afternoon long. the arm/navy game they've been trying to clear off the snow every once in a while, but it is a snowy scene here and snowy game out there. no continues for areas west of the city, in the city and down

to the coast here at this hour. it's a steady light snow. not a not the road crewsic keep up with. but it would cause some snowy spots up through the pennsylvania turnpike, the northeast extension, through the philadelphia suburbs, bucks, montgomery, chester county, you're seeing the steady snow, and through philadelphia itself the snow continues. it's happening down at the shore after a bit of a break. you may see another inch or two, but again we're not going to see more snow stack up than what we have seen out there already. snowfall totals for most areas about 2 to 4 inches. we had the locally higher amounts, but you have to dress warmly if you're headed out and about, you do not want your good shoes on, and you definitely wants hats, gloves, scarves, coats, the works here. i'll break down the snow totals

coming up in just a bit. some people are enjoying this saturday snow. this is a live look from our kimmel center campus camera overlooking broad street. nbc 10 aaron baskerville joins us live, and aaron, how is it looking out there? >> reporter: the snow continue toss come down. we've been all throughout the city. north philadelphia, south philadelphia, the west side, checking out the conditions. we've also been driving on 76 and 676. the traffic just started to slow down. this is what's happening within the last five minutes or so. we all know that conditions can change in an instant. it is the weekend. we talked to a bunch of folks goo, but they were certainly on the jab. >> it might be saturday, but that doesn't mean it's a day off from work for many in the philadelphia area. >> you're not mad at the extra work? >> no, no. you want to eat, you must work. that's the rule i was raised

with. >> t.j. jackson is brushing the snow off his car near 33rd and oxford in strawberry mansion. he's not too excited to hit the roads, leery of what's owl there. >> must drive slow, take your time. leave an hour and a half early. >> reporter: so you are expecting a mess out there? >> yes, sir. >> reporter: from the city of philadelphia, 70 salt trucks, most throughout this afternoon, ready for the storm. the roads remained in fairly good conditions, as a steady but light snow fell on city streets and highways. >> the storm was no match for runners it is rudolph run dressed in all sorts of festives costumes. they braved the snow and cold for a good cause. >> there's just appropriate clothing, and people just -- you need to embrace the season. >> for anthony edwards, the first snow of the season a doesn't feel like work. he believes all this snow is good for his health. >> it's a blessing, cleans the

air. >> reporter: i never heard that. >> purifying the air. >> reporter: take a look down here. you can see there's more accumulation than when we were herer here at noon. this is what people will be dialing with on driveways and sidewalks. i know the plows will continue to be out there. they have 50,000 tons of salt at that i disposal. for now we're live in universal city, aaron baskerville, nbc 10 news. and most andrea is in storm force 10. what's the drive like for you and and aundrea. right now the snow is still coming down, but it's not sticking to the highway right now. the snow is lighter than it was when we first came out here.

still, drivers are taking it easy for the most part driving below the speed limit. i checked with penn dot, and they had it's wet with freezing conditions. no ice yet, though, on the maps. that's the big kernel for later on tonight. we've been drive around the snow. parked cars of covered, but it is powdered snow, so we saw one woman using a broom, so we'll continue driving, checking out the road conditions all across or area. we'll be back with you in just a few minutes. that's 9 latest from storm force. back to you. >> let's head over the bridge. in just south jersey, this is a live look at the camden waterfront. some parts saw at least an inch of snow. drew smith joins us live now.

>> we're in cooper river park, deni denise, the picnic tables, this is how much has fallen. in fact this morning there was a lot of grass out here you could see. tonight all white, and certainly festive over by the christmas tree. a good night to take some photos. >> i've been waiting for the snow all year. >> reporter: the first snowfall one of the most enjoyable family not dealing with extreme cold or wind. jacob showed us how it's done. >> you just pick up some snow, and then smush it took, and then here you go. >> even though the philly skyline is obscured from here, it's still a picturesque scene. >> it's beautiful. look at it. it's nature. >> reporter: out-of-state visitors can't believe their timing. >> just very, very lucky and this is fantastic. >> reporter: it's just as festive inside at the adventure

aquarium. >> it was great, the tree in the water was great. santa was there with the elves. we found the warmest headgear in p ♪ you are my dream and my dream cake true ♪ ♪ >> a good back drop for a video. >> it's beautiful out here. >> reporter: these flakes are falling provided steadily. you can look at the road signs. they're covered. if you're out driving, be aware of that. the parking lot that is become very slushy, so it might get slippery later on tonight. a lot of characters out there, too. the snow started to pile up at the jersey shore. this was a scene along the wildwood boardwalk. it started late last night and did not let up. from the jersey shore to the delaware beaches, this was the scene this afternoon.

neighborhoods for a few months. a trouper shot and killed someone after a gunch battle. a trouper stopped this car on fieldstone court. police say the 16-year-old in the front passenger seat flashed the gun and then there was a shoot jot. the teenager died at the hopped. the 18 years old driver was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital and released. a person in the backseat was not hit. the trooper was also not hit. we pray for inspiration from their example. >> this was the opening of the mississippi civil rights museum in jackson today. after tours the museum, the president called it a great legacy and a labor of love. up next, why one of the largest snowball fights was canceled. also ahead, snow in philly, and

a live look now at the philadelphia international airport. make sure you check with your align before you leave home. penndot has you covered. this is our camera atop the presidential apartment. crews salted the roads and their work is far from over. they will address any issue that is maybe crop up, even towards daybreak. we'll have crews out to, you know, monitors and address those issues. >> penndot warns if you are going to be driving, be especially careful on the ramps, bridges and overpasses.

let ate guess a real-time update. you seem to be on wilmington i-95. >> reporter: that's right. we just entered wilmington on i-95. i want to show you what we are seeing. the snow has accumulated on some of nots grassy areas, but it's not sticking on the road. not a lot of people are out. hopefully they're home cozy and warm, but advisorieses are issued across the state, warning that the wet roads could freeze over. if you are coming occupy, that's something to take notice of. i do have to say it's been a pretty drive to see all of the snow on the trees as you drive along. again, if you come out, it's still worth taking it easy. a lot of people are driving beloaned the speed limit. just don't be filed, because the roads are wet and they could frees overnight. that's the latest, nbc 10 news. thanks, we have a team of

let's look at some of those snow totals. the snow is very dense, and a bit on the we had site. in delaware, you tyke the couldic in terms of sees the most snow. and most of that fell late last night. not a whole lot of snow here this morning. that was your snowfall total. milton 6 inches, noticed in newcastle county, not nearly as much as what they saw in sussex county. ridley park, 4 inches, westchester 3 inches for you. in chadsft., you have 2 inches. nazareth, 4, bethlehem, 3 inches of snow there, ands you work

into area of burks county, a little less there. in south jersey, we saw quite a range, and then in areas of mercer county i say upwards of 3 inches as well. ewing 2.3, in atlantic city, you really got robbed there. 0.2 inches, unfortunately mixed with rain. in philadelphia itself. 1.8 at fox chase, and the airport came at 1:00, we'll get a new one at 7:00 to see the official total. a lot of the snow is winding down to the west. if it's coming to an end in the next hour or two. the city you have a couple hours, and south jersey, it probably who -- one of the tool at the intensity it is, that means it's snow the pretty

steadily there. we have steady snow out there. and it's cold out there as well. it definitely feels like the holiday out here. and you faulkor in the winds. it's a biting cold, so make sure you have the layers on tonight, so make sure you want to stay inside and hibernate. 19 is what it feels like in the poconos where they were welcoming the snow. the snow is takering off. it's slowly collapsing around the city, and then makes a quick rush to the shore points. by the time you wake up and tune back in tomorrow morning, the sun will be shining, and it looks like a bright and sunny day. this is what happens to the temperatures. you can see they start to fall, as we clear out the skies. factor in that breeze, and you
