the port authority bus terminal is right across the street from me. take a look, thousands of new yorkers and travelers come through here every day but this is not your typical day. you can see that right now they are moving those gates. this entrance has been closed all day. there is still a large police presence. there is a bomb squad and communications center out here for the new york police department. all of this after an explosion brought things to a halt. you can see the explosion on the surveillance video. a moment that the subway tunnel was sent into chaos. >> to me, it wasn't that loud. it sounded more like a gunshot or something going off and then you see the smoke. >> reporter: police say this man, 27-year-old akayed ullah detonated a pipe bomb that was velcroed to his body. he was injured and quicklyç arrested. three others suffered nonlife threatening injuries. mayor bill de blasio reminded

alert for the dangerous cold that will sweep across our area starting tomorrow night. taking a lymph look at city avenue from presidential city, the camera is moving along. nbc 10 is breaking down the forecast neighborhood by neighborhood so you know where to -- what the weather is like where you live. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz has more. >> this is in the philadelphia area and the area most likely to see at least some light snow tomorrow morning. right now we are seeing a little bit coming into western pennsylvania. this is not well organized. and we're not talking about accumulating moisture as we go through the night tomorrow into tomorrow morning. it's a small area and mainly well north and west of philadelphia and there could be a little bit of accumulation in the poconos but also could be

warm enough so that any light precipitation tomorrow morning, even tomorrow morning would be rain in our northern and western suburbs and then that moves out. but what's going to move in is something pretty serious. now, as we go through the night tonight, you can see on our neighborhood forecast, 7:00 a.m., p.a. suburbs and also lehigh valley possibly getting a little bit of light snow. temperatures even there will be marginal. so much of that should be melting. but the dangerous cold, that is for the entire area. that starts tuesday night into wednesday night. we could see wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour single digit feels-like temperatures even during the daytime hours on wednesday. more about the hour-by-hour changes and more threats of snow later in the week coming up. >> all right, glenn. don't leave home tomorrow morning without the nbc 10 app.

democrat doug jones is campaigning with new jersey governor cory booker. mario batali is stepping down at his restaurants amid sexual misconduct allegations. he said the complaints match up with his past behavior. a bill that would toughen pennsylvania's laws on abortion is expected to be voted on this week. it calls to ban abortions at 20 weeks unless there was a medical emergency. right now the law allows abortions until 24 weeks. if passed, it would go to governor wolf but he's vowed to veto it. he explained why during his visit today. >> it's a violation of a woman's right to make her own health care decisions. i think this is just an intrusion into the doctor's office that is unwarranted.

>> the governor was joined by local elected officials and women health advocates for a rally against the bill. he's calling it the anti-choice legislation. >> out west, authorities have issued new alerts about unhealthy air from smoke and ash set up by a growing southern california wildfire. regulators warning people in parts of santa barbara, ventura and los angeles counties to stay inside, avoid vigorous outdoor activities and not do anything to stir up any of the ash. in the meantime, the thomas fire is now the fifth largest fire in state history. thousands are still under evacuation orders today. that fire has destroyed more than 750 buildings. unpredictable gusts are keeping firefighters on edge. one person is dead after police pulled a car out of a river and found a body inside. this happened last night. police say that car ran through a stop sign and went through someone's yard and plunged into the water. crews pulled the car this morning on the other side in burlington county. that's when they found a body inside the vehicle. they are still trying to figure

the young victims of a serial rapist in bucks county coming face-to-face with a man convicted of attacking them. joining us live from boils town, deanna is live. >> reporter: he told a judge he was sorry. after decades of child sexual abuse. >> he a is boogie man. >> reporter: her name is jacqueline. she knows all about this man, william thomas, a trusted family friend. she says thomas took vadvantage of that sexually assaulting her and her sister over several years. thomas last spring was arrested and since then more victims were discovered by police and today inside a bucks counsel dty cour,

they came face-to-face with the man who raped them. >> we all have memories we need to deal with. some of us need counseling. >> he doesn't deserve anything, nothing at all. i don't think i saw one sign of remorse in that courtroom. what he said was for sympathy from people who know what he's done for decades. >> in court, hundreds of pieces of evidence from child porn and dolls and underwear he took from the victims and despite his guilt and no contest pleas made in court as one woman spoke about her daughter's abuse, thomas reacted saying, quote, i never touched your daughter. >> i think that throughout the plea he made audible sighs and said i never touched your daughter so it led up to that disingenuous apology. >> reporter: thomas was sentenced having to do with seven victims but prosecutors say they believe there are many

getting this. this is some real cold air. our bodies are not used to this. it's pretty early in the season to get this cold. that's why we've issued the first alert for the whole area tuesday night through wednesday night. now the feels-like temperature is going to zero to 10 degrees because it's going to be so windy in addition to the cold and that is even during the daytime hours on wednesday. not tomorrow during the day. wednesday during the day. that's when it's going to be the coldest. and it is not all that cold now compared to what we've seen over the last few days. below normal but not that far. 42 degrees, the wind fairly light. philadelphia, many other areas still in the 30s. there is still snow object tn t ground and the area of berks county and lehigh valley, it

will be critical for tomorrow morning to see if it sticks. it's all going to be light if it happens. fleet wood at 35. 36 in allentown. 34 in walnut port. with mostly clear skies, the temperatures will drop pretty quickly. so it's possible that the light snow moving across pennsylvania now or across the great lakes scrapes that portion of the area. you can see it's obviously not a well-organized system. so we're not concerned about significant accumulation. but if you get light snow here, secondary threat in berks county, lehigh, northampton, it could be slippery but it's also warm enough for it to be rain in philadelphia and bucks county. so even if we get precipitation

. this afternoon, five people are hurt after a crash in bethel township. the nuns were coming back from longwood gardens heading eastbound when another car drove right into their lane and hit them. police had to rescue them from the wreckage before they were taken to the hospital. tim furlong spoke to one of

we've adjusted to a little bit of snow, courtesy on saturday, and you can see some snow on the radar to our west. it's patchy. it's not what we've recognized at all. we have an atmosphere that is warming up and it should be cold enough in the poconos and berks county and lehigh valley for light snow. it's too warm or going to be too warm in chester, bucks, montgomery county, philadelphia, delaware, south jersey. you don't have to worry about any kind of driving problems because the temperature is above freezing and the precipitation is likely to be rain, if anything, here's philadelphia as we go through the night and into tomorrow. just cloudy skies. even in the pennsylvania suburbs, the best chance is a little bit of light rain. especially by 9:00 a.m. even in lehigh valley by 9:00 a.m., there could be snow a little before 9:00 a.m. and you could see temperatures go down in the afternoon. the wind picks up and that's

>> we're getting ready for serious cold, right, glenn? >> yes. we've issued the first alert and that's why our bodies have not adjusted to it yet. if this were happening in the middle of january, let's say, it wouldn't be that extreme. but everything is relative in weather and that's why we have this first alert. the feels-like temperature is getting as low as single digits partly because of the wind and gusting up over 40 miles an hour during the day on wednesday. it's not gusting much right now. p.a. suburbs, we have calm conditions and less than ten miles an hour just about everywhere across the area. and in delaware we're in the 40s. harmony hills, 43. farther to the south, 42. 44 in millsboro. 45 in georgetown.

42 in rehoboth beach. with sunshine and less wind, it hasn't felt so bad. we're starting to see a bit of an increase in moisture over harrisburg that's not reaching the ground but it gives an indication that the atmosphere is moistening up. and that's going up towards new england. the clouds prevent us from getting cold and then by tomorrow morning's rush, a little bit of snow in the poconos and a mix in the lehigh valley and some rain. maybe even in philadelphia, it's gone. a very small system that is moving through very quickly and the temperatures generally are above freezing. so not to worry about tomorrow morning. thursday, we have another shot of getting some snow and getting

this would generally be on the lighter side and then after that cold blast that we're going to be getting, that would stick thursday or friday. the clouds thicken up and through 10:00 tonight, nothing is falling. tomorrow morning, a different story. a little bit of rain perhaps in the philadelphia area and could start as rain up toward the lehigh valley and then change over to some light snow as we go into the morning and then in the afternoon it's just cloudy and the temperatures are dropping and the winds come in and by tomorrow night and wednesday morning it's feeling like it's single digits. >> oh, my gosh. not ready for that. >> right. but that's not going to last all week. but we do have some snow threats after that. but that sets us up with the cold ground that any snow could stick, unlike tomorrow morning. >> really have to get the hat on. >> and it's an active weather pattern, too. so very unusual for december.
