nbc 10 news starts now. >> i promise this will not stop me, i will come back stronger than ever. >> i will come back. that's the message tonight from eagles quarterback carson wentz. good evening, i'm jacqueline london. >> i'm jim rosenfield. wentz posted video to his fans on social media tonight, it's the first time he's spoken publicly since his season-ending injury. >> nbc 10's keith jones is live outside lincoln financial field. keith, he really tried to give the fans, all of us hope and encouragement. >> reporter: yes, he did, jim and jacqueline. the video quickly went viral, as you know, you might have seen it at home as well. wentz was clearly devastated. showed a lot of resolve, though, and showed what made him such a great leader. >> what's up, everybody? obviously it's been a ruough da for me.

tracking more snow and dangerously cold temperatures. >> meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here to show us how this will hit your neighborhood. glenn? >> yeah, 24 hours from now, it is going to be getting brutal around here. in the meantime, we've got dry conditions at the moment. temperatures actually be on the way up during the night tonight. we've got a little bit of snow back across the great lakes. some of our area is likely to see some for the morning rush. you can see at 6:00 a.m., the latest futurecast, you can see in the pocono mountains and parts of the lehigh valley, especially the higher elevations expecting some snow. it's a brief thing. farther to the south, it's warm enough for rain across not only the philadelphia area, but even bucks and montgomery counties and that's brief as well. what comes after that is the wind and the cold. look at these temperatures here. as we go through the day tomorrow, we go into the 40s, but by midnight, 25 and wind. p.a. suburbs starting off at 37.

lehigh valley, a little bit of a mix of rain and snow at 7:00 a.m. so above freezing, but it's not going to be above freezing by wednesday morning. we'll tell you just how bitter cold it's going to get and for how long. coming up. >> all right, glenn. new at 11:00, a man is dead after he was shot at least nine times inside his car. shell casings cover musgrave street in friday's east mt. airy section tonight. there were at least 28 bullet holes in the victim's car. so far, no arrests. also new tonight, one person was rushed to the hospital after a fire broke out at this home in montgomery county. a number of firefighters on this block on art street in norristown around 7:00 tonight. police tell us the person taken to the hospital is being treated for smoke inhalation. the latest now on an act of terror in new york city. tonight, we've learned new details about the suspected bomber who set off explosives inside a busy subway station. investigators tell nbc news

akayed ullah was inspired by isis and its calls to attack christmas. he used matches and a 9 volt battery to ignite his pipe bomb but it was not powerful enough to create a deadly explosion. take a look at this surveillance video. police say it shows the suspect detonating explosives that were strapped to his body in an attempt to blow himself up. >> we have a report of an explosion and some sort of suspicious device. >> reporter: you can see commuters scrambling to safety with the morning rush coming to a screeching halt. >> boom. boom. and then i just ran up stairs. >> reporter: patrice was heading to newark, delaware, with her two daughters and had to get off the train early because police had the area blocked off. >> it was scary. it was very scary, and i was just actually thankful that we left a little bit later than i was planning on leaving because we would have been here. >> reporter: these are the four port authority police officers who saw the suspect with wires coming from his clothing after

the explosion. they held him down and possibly stopped him from triggering a second blast. >> it was just a big explosion, the impact of the explosion just pushed everybody around. >> reporter: three people were injured as was the suicide bomber who could be seen on the ground with burns to his body. the suspect, an immigrant from bangladesh, remains in the hospital where investigators say he told them he intended to carry out a suicide attack. inspired by isis propaganda videos and calls to attack during the holidays. >> this is a fact of life, whether you're in new york or london or paris. the question is, can it happen here? the answer is it can happen anywhere. >> ulrah was in the country legally, had a visa that's given to those of u.s. citizens. president trump highlighted the need to change immigration policies. people tomorrow all over the country will be watching a controversial election in alabama. democrat doug jones and republican roy moore both vying

for a seat in the u.s. senate. republicans usually dominate the red state and president trump has endorsed moore. but the former judge has been under a lot of scrutiny following accusations that he dated and molested teenage girls while he was in his 30s. moore has repeatedly denied those allegations. more democrats are calling for president trump to resign tonight after allegations of sexual misconduct and today a group of accusers spoke out together to nbc news. three women appeared on "megyn kelly today" to tell their stories. one of them a receptionist at trump tower. she said trump kissed her on the cheeks and lips without asking. today the white house dismissed those stories calling them nothing more than political theater. >> the president has addressed these accusations directly, and denied all of these allegations. and this took place long before he was elected to be president and the people of this country, a decisive election, supported president trump. >> one of those democratic

lawmakers calling on the president to resign is new jersey senator cory booker. a bucks county man will likely spend the rest of his life in jail for what officials say is the worst case of pedophilia they've ever seen. today a judge sentenced william thomas to 62 to 100 years in prison. thomas was convicted of molesting and sexual rly assau t assaulting children dating back to the 1970s. prosecutors found more than 5,000 pieces of evidence in thomas' falls township trailer from diaries to drawings and photos he took of the abuse. >> he is the boogeyman. he doesn't deserve anything. anything at all. not one side of remorse. i don't think he should have remorse in that courtroom. >> thomas was sentenced for serve vict seven victims today. prosecutors say if more are discovered they will file more charges. across the country in southern california, wildfire concerns have not eased tonight. officials say the thomas fire has stretched to more than

231,000 acres at just 30% containment and with nearly 1,000 structures destroyed. damage estimates are close to $50 million. the massive effort is taking its toll on firefighters as well. many of whom in their eighth straight day on the front lines. reinforcements are coming from all over including from right here in our area. >> i'm here because it's the job, you know, i signed up to do it, i love it. i work part time for the new jersey state forest fire service and that was my steppingstone to get out here. >> 21-year-old michael is a volunteer with the hamilton fire department. h e says crews are working anywhere from 12 to 16-hour shifts at a time. an update on a story we first brought you over the weekend. delaware state police are identifying the teenager who was shot and killed by a trooper in dover. nbc 10 was the only crew on scene just after the deadly shootout early saturday morning. it started as a routine traffic stop. then troopers say 16-year-old

julian pitcher flashed a gun. another teenager in the car was also shot but is out of the hospital. the trooper was not injured. new at 11:00, a conversation on gun violence in south philadelphia. leaders held this public safety meeting to talk about the recent rash of gun crimes in the area. officials said october was a rough stretch and blamed the shootings on groups rather than individuals. police say they've increased patrols and haven't seen a shooting in the area since early november. two lehigh valley high school students are heading to juvenile court after they allegedly threatened a school. police say two 15-year-olds were taken into custody last week after making the threats to parkland high in allentown. school officials say there are no longer any known threats against the school. once again pay to park in philadelphia using your smartphone. today the parking authority relaunched its app called meter up. the city's old app was suspended last spring. the new version should be available for all meter spots by the end of march.

santa's helpers were on the scene when a car crashed in delaware county. four nuns were hit head-on last night along route 322 in bethel township. two santas were being driven around by firefighters when that call came in. the women had to be rescued from

the wreckage. one was air lifted to the hospital. >> santa claus helped us out a lot. he got up on top of that roof and gave his blessings down on us and we worked hard to save five lives. >> the four nuns were critically hurt but officials have not released an update on their conditions. also tonight, a couple of christmas grinches in chester county. police say they've been stealing gifts meant for local trash collectors. >> and new at 11:00, nbc 10's brandon hudson shows us how a neighbor put a stop to their scheme. >> reporter: police say a neighbor saw the man going through their trash. so when officers got here, they found out he was looking for gifts and money. this is joshua swavely. according to police, he's known as the grinch. investigators say swavely tried to steal holiday gifts neighbors left for the trash collectors on upton circle in east goshen. it happened as most homeowners celebrate. one alert neighbor noticed some suspicious behavior. >> each neighbor watches each

neighbor, you kind of know everybody. >> reporter: mick joyner lived on this street for almost 30 years, she said leaving gifts is common in their quiet neighborhood. >> you have to hand it to them in their hand. that's what people do, rip people off at had time unfortunately. >> reporter: police found an suv illegally parked on the street with kimberly verdi in the passenger seat. minutes later officers arrested her and swavely. police are now encouraging neighbors to give gifts to the trash collectors or their companies directly. >> for someone else to come along and take that from them, it's -- i don't know, the only one who would do that. >> reporter: police believe the couple may be tied to similar thefts on mackenzie drive in west goshen township. in east goshen, brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. a follow-up tonight on the young girl with cerebral palsy whose walker was stolen. tonight she has a new one. thanks to a donation at ai dupont hospital. nbc 10 was there as kirsten alexander received her special

gift. as for the two men charged with taking the walker, both are charged with felonies but kirsten's mom told us they should not get jail time. tonight a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a home that looks to ease the burden and anxiety on families impacted by cancer. going to show you nick's house in delaware county. the seven-bedroom home offers comfort and support for families who had to move to the philadelphia area as they looked for cancer care and the house will accommodate up to seven families at a time. this is all possible because of the headstrong foundation which was the idea of 19-year-old nicholas. we folk with nick's mom tonight. >> to be able to be that source of support, be able to fulfill the promise that i made to my son, to be able to see that love, the same love that we had for our child, there's no greater privilege for me. >> nicholas passed away from cancer back in 2006, but it was his last wish to see the

headstrong foundation become a reality. ringing in the holiday season, more than 200 patients from c.h.o.p. came together tonight at dave & buster's at penn's landing to celebrate the season with family and doctors. it was a night of food, music and special visit from the mommers of santa. c.h.o.p.'s division of plastic and reconstructive surgery does this every year for its patients. hundreds of catholics took to the streets in honor of our lady of guadeloupe. they marched to the cathedral basilica of st.s peter and paul for the annual mass. paid tribute to the patroness of americas. now to your first alert weather, anyone outside tonight is feeling that chill. nbc 10 in chestnut hill, just about everyone had the hoods up, we saw, or hats on to try to stay warm. and that chilly feeling is going to get even worse this week. >> meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with your first alert neighborhood forecast. a cold one, glenn. >> yeah, by this time tomorrow night, you're going to wish it

was as warm as it is tonight. we got a first alert out for the entire area for this bitter cold air mass coming in. tuesday night through wednesday night, we're going to be seeing feels-like temperatures into the single digits. some places close to zero. partly due to those winds. gusting over 40 miles an hour during the day on wednesday. right now, it's 36 in philadelphia. 31 in mt. holly. 27 in mt. pocono. and some areas are pretty close to the freezing mark. leonardsville in berks county at 32 degrees. 32 in fleetwood. 33 in reading. 32 in hopewell. 32 in walnut port. some of these places are actually going to be seeing the temperature go up a little bit by morning. and so when the precipitation comes in, going to be close call whether it's rain versus snow and most likely to melt even in it is snow most of the area. there's a little bit across the

great lakes. nothing too well organize needsneeds here. these are small systems moving through this week. here's 7:00 a.m. there's the snow in carbon and monroe county, in the poconos. higher elevations of berks county and lehigh valley. farther south, it's just rain, and it's all brief. there's 10:00 a.m., couple of showers, and then it's out of here. and a fairly mild afternoon into the 40s with sunshine coming in. but then the wind picks up. and we get the cold. and then wednesday night into thursday morning could be another little system comes through. that one could see snow stick even if it's light because the ground will be so cold from that arctic air mass that's coming in tomorrow night. so by tomorrow afternoon, we're talking about temperatures well into the 40s. could be a few flakes early in the day. allentown, easton. same story. by afternoon, temperatures are up near 50 degrees in longport and newark, delaware and

rehoboth beach by tomorrow afternoon. take a look what happens after this. tomorrow afternoon, feels-like temperatures in the upper 30s. 6:30, same thing. now look, a couple hours later, 17 in pottstown and allentown. 19 in westchester anyone then i down from there. by wednesday morning, 4 in allentown, 5 in pottstown, 7 in philly. 7 in voorhees. and it doesn't warm up a whole lot. during the early afternoon, still single digits and part of the reason for that, wind. look at the gusts here. tuesday night, it's not that strong early, but by this time tomorrow night, we're starting to see gusts near 40. by wednesday morning, some places could be near 50 miles an hour for the gusts. that's going to make it feel really cold. >> all right. and before you led out the door tomorrow morning, check in with
