freezing temperatures that could be accompanied by snow tonight. you see blue skies in the meantime. christmas tree at the top of the building. similar story in the poconos. a live look from the nbc10 camera at the camelback mountain ski resort. look at that wind. that's man-made snow blowing across the screen. we're tracking the winter blast. chief meteorologist tammie souza is looking at how much snow parts of the region could see tonight. >> we are looking at cold conditions out there. those numbers will play a big part into the snow potential. i had to start with the live camera view in cape may, new jersey. it looks beautiful with the sunset here. i'll tell you what. just because it looks beautiful does not mean it is warm outside. it is cold across the map. these are our actual temperatures. 29 in atlantic city and 29 in philadelphia. allentown at 26. mount pocono where you saw the live camera view, at 17 degrees. the feels-like temperatures are quite a bit different.

as promised all of us pretty much stayed in the teens to low 20s today. earlier today we were below zero in mount pocono for the feels-like temperature. 17, what it feels like in philly right now. vineland, 17. atlantic city at 20. the numbers will level out as we go throughout the night. the wind, which plays a big factor in a feels-like temperature, are starting to weaken. earlier today gusts were consistently between 30 and 40 miles per hour. gusts are not reporting in any locations except for wildwood at just 22 miles an hour. it will be cold enough so that any flakes that do fall will stick to the ground. >> first off, i'll say no snow day, kids. there will be snow on the ground when you wake up in the morning.

doppler radar is not picking up any snow in philadelphia, the lehigh valley, south jersey or delaware, but they've seen snow in pennsylvania. they've seen it in pittsburgh. it's headed towards williamsport and harrisburg. further west we are looking at another band of snow unwinding from the area of low pressure moving through indiana and into ohio. we'll see several hours of snow falling tonight. let's walk you through the timing for some of that. the winds still coming in out of the southwest ahead of this. so that's good news. it's keeping us at least in the low 30s and upper 20s at this point. here is when we are expecting to see the snow move into the area. between 8:00 and 9:00 tonight it will cover the entire area by 10:00 to 11:00 tonight. it should be out of the area by the morning commute with just flurries lingering behind. how much are we talking about? it's not a great deal. here is the rapid precision forecast model, the in-house

model here at nbc10. it shows just over an inch in philadelphia, maybe a dusting to less than an inch in places like ra hore hoebet beach. we could see 1 to 2 inches with isolated amounts exceeding 2 to 3 inches. it will come down in probably a four-hour period overnight tonight. should not affect your morning commute. if you're out and about tonight, use caution. there will be snow coming down and it will be icy on the roads. over to you guys. >> definitely use caution. you can download the free nbc10 app to track snow as it approaches your neighborhood. to a deadly impact. right now, police are searching for the hit-and-run driver. it happened around 12:30 this morning. you see the video.

brandon hudson is live with the search for the driver. >> reporter: even a deadly hit and run crash is not surprising because witnesses say collisions are common at this intersection. neighbors and business owners say they want to make changes to make them feel safer. a normally busy intersection was anything but overnight as a hit-and-run was caught on camera. video appears to show a driver run a stop sign on diston street before ramming into a car. the impact threw a passenger out of the car that was hit. he later died. >> we hate this intersection. we just keep witnessing many car accidents that happen in this intersection. >> reporter: priscilla and her family heard the wreck from their home. she and other neighbors say the intersection is a high-risk area. >> i almost was hit a couple of days ago. >> reporter: samantha is one of several in the neighborhood who want to make the intersection safer. we went to get answers from

philadelphia city councilman bobby heenan's office. a spokesman from his office said a request must be put into the city to start the process. neighbors hope it can happen soon. >> what would you like to see, if anything, as a changeover? >> a four-way stop sign. >> we hope someday there could be a traffic light put here. >> reporter: you see this time of day how busy this intersection is. another concern witnesses and neighbors say is that a yield sign in the pedestrian crosswalk, they say some drivers ignore that. we do see a lot of traffic out here. we also see a lot of children walking to and from school. and pedestrians and business owners and neighbors say they want them to feel safer too. i am brandon hudson, nbc10 news. >> brandon, thank you. searching for a cause. investigators trying to figure out what sparked the deadly hire in montgomery county this morning. two children were killed. 11-year-old bryan and 6-year-old

parker lukens found in an upstairs bedroom at their home in schwenksville. the boys' parents and sisters made it out but they are injured. the father is a deputy with the sheriff's department. >> our heart goes out to them. it just pours out. you know, we can't imagine what it's like losing one child, let alone two. >> detectives are now sifting through the ashes there to find out the cause of the fire. developing tonight, a deep red state turns blue. democrat doug jones is the projected the winner of the alabama senate race beating republican roy moore. >> jones is the first democrat voted into the state since 1992. it is causing a stir all the way up to the steps of capitol hill. that's where we find lauren mayk. >> it's a busy day in washington, lauren. >> reporter: yes, it is. we caught lawmakers in between

votes and meetings today. they are absorbing the results of the alabama senate race and the change that it will bring here. in the midst of it all, republicans took a big leap forward on their tax bill, one that some are making a last-ditch attempt to delay. in the senate's hart office building protesters demanding newly elected doug jones get a seat before the tax bill vote. the election in alabama shaking up washington and shrinking the already thin republican margin. what is the change going to do to republicans' ability to get things through? >> it will make it harder. >> reporter: senator pat toomey and republicans announcing they have a plan for the house and senate tax bill. he says it allows people to deduct catastrophic medical expenses and state and local taxes but with a cap. >> reporter: do you know what the details are? >> we do not. we'll find out in the next few

we have our first video in from the scene of breaking news. we are following outside of pittsburgh. penn state's beaver campus is on lockdown right now because of a shooting that has left two people dead. all we know is that the shooting happened at the cafeteria of the student union building. we'll continue to work together new information and we'll bring it to you as soon as we get it. back here at home, the murder of the four men in bucks county that made national headlines over the summer. >> police arrested cousins for the crimes and the d.a. gave one of them a deal. no death penalty if you help us find the bodies. jimi taro patrick >> today the bucks county d.a. put the death penalty back on the table. the district attorney saying it's a procedural issue. they're covering their bases. prosecutors filed a notice against sean patrick kratz and cosmo dinardo the cousins

accused of killing the four young men and burying their bodies on a farm back in july. we asked other nbc10 legal analyst were filing the death penalty motion was unusual. >> it's not unusual at all. it would be unusual if they didn't do it. you have to remember, dinardo's case is still open. the trial is not over. you still have a codefendant. they still may need dinardo's help in prosecuting the defendant. he still has beenablegation to tell the truth and an obligation of having told the truth up to what they know at this point. >> he says the deal could be broken in the d.a. finds out the suspects didn't tell the entire truth. both suspects scheduled to appear in court tomorrow. >> guys, back over to you. developing tonight, firefighters are finally making progress on the immense task of cutting fire lines around those wildfires in california. look at that.

the thomas fire, which straddles santa barbara and ventura counties is in its tenth day. it's burned more than 700 homes. a quarter of the fire is contained. a firefighter in san diego is getting a lot of attention on social media involving a simple message he left behind for a couple forced to leave their homes due to the flames from the lilac wildfire. the home was still standing. there it was, a note, apologizing for the mess. >> we approached the front door and we saw a little piece of the door missing and what looked like a boot mark. >> the mess we left from our bootprints to where the hose line was dragged through. >> the note from the firefighters saying, sorry about the door and the ceiling. had to get in to save the home. so san diego fire. good luck. >> wow. touched by the simple gesture. the couple posted the note on social media to find and thank the firefighter who wrote it. the lilac fire is now 95%

contained. coming up at 6:00. flying to the front lines. the monster machines heading from our area to los angeles to help fight the wildfires. turning to the weather. parts of the region could see snow tonight. in fact, some of them will. the promenade in cape may where the bone-chilling temperatures, where they felt it all along the shore. a live look from our nbc10 camera at lincoln financial field in south philly, overlooking the city. barely in the 30s. if you look at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen, 29 degrees. the wind makes it feel even colder. >> meteorologist krystal klei joins us. we have the wind and the cold. but not everybody will see snow. >> that's right. this is what we call a clipper. it will clipper the area. that means good news. it moves by quickly enough that we'll have low accumulation. we'll all feel the impacts tonight. these are your feels-like temps.

i showed you this a moment ago. the good news is the winds have been dying down over the last hour. instead of gusts to 30 or 40 miles per hour like we felt earlier today. winds are mostly around 15 miles per hour. that's a big improvement. still it's feeling like 20s out there across the board. 27 in washington township. 22 in turnersville. vorhees at 20. hop over the river. the philadelphia feels-like temperatures. 21, graduate hospital. airport reading a little lower at 17. notice the areas like chestnut hill and manayunk in the upper 20s. these are spots where the wind is reading so light it's not impacting the feels-like conditions. those are your actual temperatures. in the upper 20s. at beasst, 30 right now. the next big weather maker, oh yeah, pretty obvious, to the west. flakes are moving through, starting to approach pennsylvania. going through the next few hours they'll start to approach us.

let's go through the hour by hour model here. you can check out the differences neighborhood to neighborhood. this is at 9:00 in the evening. snow flakes falling, approaching the western edge of our viewing zone. and i actually think disclaimer, this model is stretching a little too far south. what i mean by that is the best chance will be north and a lower chance of it making it down south to areas like the delaware beaches or jersey shore. watch the temperatures as the snow potential picks up. there you go. clipping us at midnight. snow slicing through philly. good news, many of us are indoors and asleep. it won't affect you much overnight. low 20s over mount pocono and allentown. upper 20s. still supporting snow. the ground is very cold, meaning the flakes fall and stick. they can stack, so you can get some accumulation. lesser chance of snow and temperatures a little warmer farther south. by 7:00 a.m. it's pretty much out of here. a few flurries still possible. mostly i-95 corridor north and west. it will be out of here soon

enough too. let's talk how much we may see in terms of snow tonight into thursday morning. 1 to 3 inches potential over berks county, lehigh valley and poconos. 1 to 1.5 inches. pennsylvania suburbs to the south jersey neighborhoods and potentially newcastle county. nonetheless, even if you see a few inches, it won't be a major snow event. enough, though, sticking to the roadways for the morning commute tomorrow that you need to leave a little bit early and take the turns a little more slowly. the roads will likely be slick and a bit icy. tomorrow, temperatures in the afternoon. the winds pump in from the southwest a bit which will bring the numbers up in the late morning and early afternoon. then they'll shift and temperatures will fall. we'll get to about 37 in south philly. 34 in phoenixville, 36 for hamilton township. margate, 41. a few low 40s farther south.

take a look at this. at least eight people were hurt in this crash in central florida. a bus, the one you see there, collided with a tractor-trailer. just before 8:00 this morning in lake placid. witnesses say the truck rear-ended the bus causing it to flip on its side. there were close to 40 middle and high school students on the bus. seven students and the bus driver were hurt. a live look at the south street bridge where the city announced they plan to build a protected bike lane. the existing lanes will be repainted and buffer posts will be installed. the work is expected to be completed by this summer. two weeks ago a 24-year-old woman was on a bicycle when she was killed when she collided with a dump truck on spruce street in center city after the trash the cycling community called for the city to take action and make the bike lane safer for riders. santa claus is going cyber

starting with the cold blast. the feels-like temperatures out there. mount pocono has struggled to get into the above zero area. 4 degrees the feels-like temp. 15 in pottstown. feels like 17 in philadelphia. wilmington at 20 and dover the same, 21 degrees. the winds are dying down as we speak. so as we go through the night, what you see is what you get. we're not going to get as bitterly cold as we did last night. we will still be feeling around 20 degrees at 9:00 p.m. into tomorrow morning we'll feel a little warmer, even though the temperatures typically drop in the evening. they'll only drop a bit. the winds weaken up. it will feel like 25 in minimumington and 27 in doylestown. cold but not the dangerous cold we were experiencing. that's why the first alert comes to a close this evening. looking at the radar and satellite. we don't have flakes falling yet over our neck of the woods, but you can see now on the radar return that we've got some snow

and best line of defense against the virus. also in newcastle county police are investigating four heroin overdoses, three of which were deadly in a two-hour period between 11:00 and 1:00 today police responded to three separate incidents in bear, brandywine and claymont. in one instance police were able to save a life. the autopsy was completed on a woman found dead in a plastic bag. still no definitive cause of death. the investigation is still open. so far there have been no arrests. a brewing company is helping to raise money for a state trooper shot in the line of duty. two rivers brewery in easton will release a beer in honor of corporal seth kelly. he was shot after a traffic shot on november 7th.

one dollar from every beer will go to the trooper's family to help with his recovery. here is a look at stories making headlines across the region. from camden county. video you'll only see on nbc10. thieves hitting a pharmacy. they smashed a surveillance camera before breaking the glass door with a hammer. once inside the berlin pharmacy saturday night they ran-sacked the shelves for pills. >> cash, pills, whatever it is. you shouldn't be breaking into somebody's business. >> concerned that somebody else is going to be possibly abusing these and it could get in the wrong hands. somebody could get hurt. >> police are working to determine if the burglary is connected to a pharmacy robbery in winslow township a week ago. in newcastle county, a delaware radio station is making the holiday season brighter for the less fortunate. throughout the first day, representatives were at costco

to buy supplies. the station raised nearly $10,000 during last week's drive. the supplies will benefit five agencies throughout delaware. here is a new class in atlantic city to train students to become employees in construction. the training to hire program is a new 12-week program at the new hard rock hotel and casino opening this summer. 15 students started today. they'll get experience learning about construction, electric and job site safety. a group of golden retrooefrs a retrievers are getting a second chance at life. they were delivered to the rescue after being saved from a dog meat farm in south korea. humane society international helped rescue these pups. wow. they're gorgeous. >> yeah. ahead at 5:00, keeping the team together. >> yes. that's right. how the eagles are moving forward and keeping their eyes on the prize, the super bowl. all eyes on the sky.

the last few days have been an emotional ride for the philadelphia eagles. despite carson wentz's injury, the team still has high hopes as they get ready for playoff success. john clark joins us now. john, the team is positive under nick foltz's leadership. >> carson wentz had surgery today in pittsburgh. carson wanted it done as soon as possible. he is already thinking about his recovery and trying to be ready for next season. the eagles took the practice field today without carson. many eagles fans are down about losing their quarterback. so are carson's teammates. but they have to move on to face the giants. take a look.

let's welcome in first alert meteorologist krystal klei. >> we're also tracking snow. >> the two go hand in hand. because it's so cold, that means all the surfaces are cold, meaning that when the snow falls it will stick. a little accumulating snow. we'll start first with the current winds. keith just mentioned it. the winds are still whipping around. the good news is, as promised, winds are starting to die down. in the last few hours they've started to shift on a downward trend. 12 in millville. dover, wilmington, coatesville, much lighter than earlier today. that's good because when the wind is blowing hard it cuts through the big, thick jacket you have on. the drop is very helpful. still feels cool. unionville at 24 degrees for the feels-like. north wailes, 20 degrees. dropping into the jersey shore

neighborhoods. still quite cold too. 28 for the temperature in upper township. 21, feels-like in wood bine and somers point also at 21. a look at radar and satellite. the snow erin just mentioned is coming our direction. this is a storm center that will move through quickly overnight and early tomorrow. it's something called a clipper, so it will clip us. that makes sense, right? the pink -- rather, purple and whites you see, that's the snow that's falling and it's moving our direction as we speak. the timing, good news, is mostly overnight. it's not going to impact much of us in terms of falling while you are driving. doesn't really approach until about 9:00 this evening. it will start west and spread to the east. watch the temperatures here. like i mentioned, the winds will weaken some going through the night. and temperatures will not fall terribly much more. so the actual temperatures are not going to be quite as much of an issue as they were last night and early this morning. so we go from 9:00 through midnight. there we go. the snow passing through the

area. this model extends snow all the way out past the jersey shore. some models keep it a little bit less so, maybe just a flurry or so at the shore. i don't think the accumulations will real be there. 29 is the temperature. in the 30s most places by 7:30 tomorrow morning. let's talk about the totals. lehigh valley, berks county, poconos, 1 to 3 inches locally. those are the highest amounts we'll possibly see. south jersey to pennsylvania suburbs. coating to an inch and a half at best. because it's so cold and will be cold into tomorrow morning, anything that falls sticks. in the drive tomorrow you probably won't need the windshield wipers but the roads may be icy. tyke it slow. temperatures tomorrow peak in the mid 30s for areas like philly. low 30s in the lehigh valley and about 37 in delaware. we see a mix of clouds and sun

the problem would not pay up she contacted harry hairston at nbc10 responds. >> a difficult situation for this lady. she tells us her problem started in the very early hours of a summer morning. >> good girl! >> reporter: on her farm outside dalestown joanne miller takes care of retired show horses. her schedule, early to bed and early to rise. just before the crack of dawn in july, she says she noticed sparks outside her window. >> it looked like fireworks all over the street. >> reporter: she noticed some of her appliances stopped working. >> cable box was destroyed. we lost the coffee pot. in here, we lost our computer, the monitor, the power surges. >> reporter: miller says she saw the peco crews working on the power lines. she went outside, spoke with a supervisor who told her to file

a claim for electrical damages in her home. she used the neighbor's computer to download the claim forms. >> i filled out the forms, got receipts and mailed everything in that day. >> reporter: miller says two months later peco contacted her by e-mail and promised to reimburse her $879.67. but when the check didn't show, she started e-mailing peco for answers. miller says her e-mails went unanswered. >> i contacted you. >> reporter: we contacted peco. they told us all claims are handled on a case by case basis and it works with each customer individually on a satisfactory resolution. miller says, after we got involved, one week later, peco sent her this check. >> we did a good job for you? >> you did an excellent job. i am very happy. thank you. >> all right. >> folks, miller did several things right to help resolve her issue with peco. she identified the damage, kept
