that speed and swerving are of interest to them on the part of driver. who was coming down this road. accused of t boning another car and hitting this chevy. during a get away attempt. now a memorial set up here for the 8 year-old left trapped and dying. >> reporter: a scene of destruction and confusion. john paul recording as he takes in the damage to his chevy. and watches paramedics trying to free an 8 year-old in another car. caved in from the impact. >> very sad. >> reporter: the boy was losing consciousness as neighbors try to comfort him. >> i was telling him just calm down. you'll be okay. >> reporter: doctors would not be able to save him. police chase after the driver who caused more damage as he left the scene.

before finally pulling him over. investigators initially said the 34 year-old claimed to have diabetes and was taken to a local emergency room. >> i saw it happen. the car was parked next to the car that was hit. >> reporter: witnesses return to the scene. only to hear the bad news about the boy. >> i'm so in shock. i really was hoping for a different answer. >> reporter: they're frustrated but a number of bad crashes at this intersection. you can see a memorial at the very spot for a previous death. tonight neighbors are devastated for the latest victims family. >> we can replace a car. many cars. there's no way to replace life. especially a young boy. >> we're told the man who was in the car with the 8 year-old is at the hospital in stable condition. meanwhile the investigation is just getting started. police haven't filed charges yet. that could be changing as they continue to look into this.

now to an nbc10 exclusive. a 10 year-old boy is describing a terrifying encounter on his way to school. he was with a group of kids when someone jumped out and came after them. we spoke with him tonight. live where all this happened. >> it happened here around 8:30. this morning. i can tell you the four kids were walking down the sidewalk here. that's when the green van pulled up. a man jumped out and tried chasing after the kitds. they were smurt enough and quick enough to get here. to the elementary school. alert teachers and adults and they are safe. tonight police continue searching for the van. >> he gets an object and turns around and starts chasing after us. >> reporter: he is reliving this morning. hope surveillance shows the 10 year-old leaving for school. right before a dangerous encounter. he tells nbc10 he was walking to

school with three others in oxford circle. he claims a man jumped out and tried to grab them. >> he was saying what to you guys? >> i'm going to rape you. and we ran. >> reporter: the students ranged in age from six to ten. and ran away to a school. ebony and her son spent the day talking to detectives about the incident. she has advice for anyone who comes face to face with a stranger. >> bite issue scratch. do whatever it is that you have to do. to get this person off of you. >> reporter: her fifth grader understands the walk to school every day is anything but routine anymore. he tell ts us he thought about the safety of others first. >> i was going to let the little ones go first. i let them go first. and then i ran with them. and we had to alert the teacher.

would push for the change while in office. >> police are searching for the driver who killed a grandfather. during a street race. it happened last night on route 13. police say kevin williams was on his bicycle when he was hit by a driver racing another car. williams mangled bike was found on the road. williams daughter cannot believe her father is gone. >> i don't understand how you leave someone there. you can just hit somebody like that. and leave them. >> police are looking for a silver mercedes benz. similar to this one. and a dark colored lancer involved in the street race. police officers facing assault and dui tonight. prosecutors say officer kevin clin was drunk and off duty when he crashed into a car last december. he took off but was followed by people in the car.

authorities say he pulled over and threatened those people with his gun. he has been suspended tonight with intent to be fired. a local high school football star facing robbery charges could spend the holiday behind bars. today a judge refused to lower his bail. supporters including his charter school teammates left court today disappointed by the ruling. young and others were arrested for robbing a wa wa of $13,000. earlier this summer. young's attorney says the allegation don't add up. >> if you were to look at everything. this is truly something that is a misstep in this man's life. if you look at the way he's gone about his life this is not normal behavior for him. >> the judge denied bail reduction. due to the severity of the allegation and lack of supervision at his house. young had committed to play at pen state. good-bye to tokens. transit officials announce

morning. we're going to be dry through friday. we'll see the chance of showers late friday. probably friday night. so good shopping for the next couple days. it will be soggy but mild on saturday. that rain picks up friday night. continues throughout the entire day saturday. it won't be cold we'll be in the 50s. sunday we'll be cooler back to the 40s. it will be dry for last minute shopping and travel. the really cold air the frigid air starts to slide in on christmas day. by the midof next week we're lucky to make it into the mid-20s. that's daytime highs. we'll have chances for snow maybe snow mixing in christmas morning. possibly two significant storm coming our way next week. here's the temperature trend. up right around 40. winter starts at 11:28 a.m. on friday we make it to the low 50s and mid-50s saturday. after that everything crashes. and it stays cold for at least 7

to 10 days after that. wind gus tomorrow not bad. between 10 and 15 miles per hour. 8:00 tomorrow night we die down. nothing showing up on the doppler radar. very quiet. high thin clouds will drift through. there's a system to the south. it stays to the south. we're watching the one to the west. here's how the whole thing will play out for us. we are going to be watch several storms affecting the midpart of the country. for us temperatures in the 30s and 40s under sunny skies tomorrow. a nice drink day. friday we're around 50. the rain moves in in the evening. watch the temperature. it foez goes up into saturday. so the temperatures climb over night. we see rain throughout the day on saturday. and a quiet sunday. and then we watch the next system. right now it looks like we could see snow maybe lee high valley. and rain snow mix for the rest
