breaking news, four people shot in southwest philadelphia. let's go right to nbc 10's drew smith live on the scene. drew? >> reporter: we just got an update from detectives in the past 15 minutes. this is a nice neighborhood, a lot of people were out and about tonight and heard those gunshots. you can see there are two cars in the middle of the street that is taped off. those are from family members who were rushing to assist a young woman. police tell us that young lady got into a fight with her boyfriend, it turned physical and then the family members arrived and the detective told us that when the man started losing the fight he pulled out a gun and shot four men. they range in age from 22 to 32. they were taken to the hospital

in critical condition. listen to what the southwest detectives just told us about this crime. >> the boyfriend we believe is the gunman here. after fighting with his girlfriend physically he fought with some family members who were called here by the girlfriend. and as he starts losing that fight, he pulls out a gun. >> reporter: the police calling this crime bad timing for that family, just before christmas. four of those family members now in the hospital. and that gunman got away. police did tell us they recovered a gun amiciinside one the vehicles. they're waiting on search warrants so they can get inside those cars. they're asking that man to turn himself in to any police station. they said they know who he is and out looking for him tonight. also tonight a suspected thief messes with the wrong man. tonight new surveillance video shows the victim chasing down his alleged attacker.

the victim wasn't hurt and now it's the suspect in the hospital. aaron? >> reporter: jim, right now we're on beach wood. and the video shows two guys right here having a conversation. the gunman runs up on him, pointing a weapon. the other runs behind the van, he pulls out his gun, fires a few shots as he's walking down the sidewalk. tonight that victim is thankful to be alive. >> it's a certain type of evil in this world you don't want to meet. so i refuse to just become the victim. >> reporter: kelly tells nbc 10 he had one second to make a decision and she chose to fight back against the robber. >> i unhoster the weapon and i'm like this, looking through the windows to see him. >> reporter: surveillance video shows kelly running and ducking

behind a van early this morning before chasing him with his gun. >> he had a weapon and if he wanted to kill me, he could have. >> reporter: they arrested hem for going after kelly and his friend as they were talking. they said he demanded money and aimed his gun at the two men before kelly took out his own gun. >> i'm looking here, here. i take fire. >> reporter: the 28-year-old father is trained security guard. tossing his gun in the middle of the road with kelly hot on his trail. he said it's a reminder to always be aware of your surroundings. >> you don't have too much time for error. you know, you have to execute, and that's all you have is like just a second. >> reporter: and right now you're looking at one of the markers. kelly tells me he fired three shots from his gun. one of those bullets hit the suspect in his wrist. for now aaron baskerville, nbc

10 news. switching gears here, the holiday weekend is almost here. and for a lot of people that means it's time to gas up the car and hit the road. but will the weather cooperate with your holiday travels? >> tomorrow, everything is going to be okay for the travel. after that things start changing. one of the places you may actually see a white christmas out of this, eastern pa up in the lee high valley. still kind of questionable in the philadelphia area. could see a few flakes by christmas morning. right now certainly cold enough to snow. 33 in philadelphia, 29 in dover, 26 in vineland and 27 in mount holly. we have a lot warmer air back to the west, in the 40s now in the ohio valley. and we have 65 degrees in dallas. but it's also bitter cold up in the northern plains. some of that air is coming this way, too. eventually. not tomorrow. it's going to be milder getting

up into the 50s despite all the clouds that are going to be around. it should be dry during the daytime hours. but some showers coming in tomorrow night setting us up for wet and mild weather tomorrow morning and then winter returns. we'll talk about that, chance of a white christmas in some areas and more significant snow in others coming up. earlier this week we told you how a thief took off with a family's handicapped assessable van. now an anonymous donor has stepped forward to help a philadelphia mother and her paralyzed son. nbc 10's drew smith shows us how kindness has triumphed over a heartless crime. >> oh, my gosh, thank you so much. >> reporter: she can't contain her joy as he sees her new van for the first time. the man handing her the car keys

is not the former owner. that person wanted to stay anonymous. to top it off the auto plex is paying the taxes and tag fees and maintenance for a year. once she got the van home to northeast philly she rolled out quite a welcome matt for her son. this van is symbol of freedom for the 24-year-old who was paralyzed after being shot in a robbery. >> it's way better, and all i can just think about is saying thanks to the guy that helped me out. >> reporter: torres has plans for what he's going to do on his first trip with his gift, and that is to go get presents for his daughter. >> christmas right around the corner. >> reporter: this family now feeling blessed. >> it's unfortunate how some people think, but on the good

hand, there are some good people out there. >> reporter: and if the anonymous donor ever wants to reveal himself. >> i wish i could give him a kiss. >> reporter: this family will never stop saying thank you. >> thank you. >> reporter: drew smith, nbc 10 news. the white house says there's a very good chance president trump will sign tax reform into law tomorrow. congress cleared the way bypassing a short-term spending bill earlier tonight. the bill prevents a government shutdown, keeps the children's health insurance afloat and stops automatic cuts to programs like medicare. but again, this is just temporary. bill's funding ends january 19th. new at 11:00, a famed conductor with ties to philadelphia accused of sexual assault tonight. three opera singers and a classical musician have made allegations to the associated press. the 81-year-old is the principle conductor of london's

philharmonic orc cu. that orchestra said it was horrified to learn of the accusations and had no knowledge of them. he has not respond today the ap's report and has not been charge would any crimes. a chester county flight paramedic accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy faced a judge today. accused of groping the teen during a paramedic ride along last summer. he told the judge mason touched him below the belt and used sexually explicit language during the assault. mason claims the teen made it all up. the city of philadelphia is taking new steps now to cleanup two neighborhoods plagued by the heroin epidemic. this comes after it exposed rez dns dnds concerns. since then the outreach team has helped 3,000 people with

treatment. tonight the group mothers in charge teamed up with the 22nd police district to spread some cheer and show support for those mourning a loved one lost to violence. >> the holidays is a very difficult time for those who have lost loved one. so tonight we're going to smile and laugh and have some fun. >> and tonight each child got to enjoy a holiday meal plus music and dancing and each went home with a special gift courtesy of toys for tots. well, this muddy right here is putting a damper on christmas celebrations for a lee high valley church. it has been forced to shutdown. officials say a broken water main and a sinkhole near the church are to blame. the church also serves as a soup kitchen and now people looking for a hot meal are being turned away. they hope to be serving hot meals by monday and serving christmas dinner late next week.

the call to end homelessness in philadelphia and across the country tonight. the city recognized homeless memorial day in center city. the event is held on or near -- and the names of the homeless who died this year were read aloud. in addition to a number of others who are living on the streets. coming up, saving christmas. a company steps in at the last minute to make sure these delaware children got to take plus buyer bewear. a local woman used a coupon to buy her uggs online. her order? and the right place at the right time. how two good samaritans rescued a teenager from the icy water of this jersey canal. and we just love these stories. see a chester county soldier surprise his little sister by

a story of holiday heroism. two good samaritans save a struggling teen who says he jumped into a freezing canal to escape being shot. this happened last week in the delaware canal in trenton in near 20 degree weather. the ordeal began when two men pulled into the back lot of catholic charities. police say they threatened to shoot the 16-year-old who got away by jumping a fence into the water there. the good samaritans saw a crowd and the teens. >> after he finished shaking i looked at him and his face was swollen because of how cold the water was. >> the men drove the teen to the hospital. the boy suffered hypothermia. he and his mother say they're extremely thankful to both of

these men tonight. shoppers thought they could get a popular discount for a popular shoe brand, but it deal wasn't met for the average customer. >> reporter: debbie and don say they were excited when they saw an online ad offering uggs for 60% off. shortly after they entered the code for their purchases, they saw the deal slip away. >> it started to process and shortly after i received an e-mail stating that the order was canceled. >> reporter: both tell us they got an e-mail telling them it was leaked outside our organization without authorization and the code has sense been deactivated. >> it's just disheartening. they were christmas presents. >> reporter: they declined request for comment, but did e-mail them offering a 15%

discount for their inconvenience. harry harrison, nbc 10 responds. >> and we checked uggs website for its terms and conditions. it states in part the website may contain human errors and inaccuracies related to pricing, and the company may change or update information without prior notice at any time. consequently we apologize for any inconvenience such errors may produce. if you bought sports memorabilia from one mall in delaware, police say it could be counterfeit. sports fever and christmas treasures. a pennsylvania man who owned both stores is facing felony counterfeiting charges. if you purchased something you believe is fake, you're urged to contact the stores directly. new moms now have a place to feed their infants in privacy. comes complete with outlets to plug in breast pumps and a door

that can be locked for privacy. wells fargo center is the first pro-sports center in the state to offer these. at the police athletic league in wilmington, a scheduling mix-up meant toys for tots couldn't deliver. some folks got wind of the problem and made sure each and every kid got gifts to take home. toys for tots also came through and all in all plenty of smiles today. nbc 10 at the franklin institute for their 21 plus science after hours ugly sweater party. attendees breck uttheir ugliest exits to bring in the holiday. the event was complete with carolers and even good st. nick made his appearance. we can't get enough of those surprise videos involving military members. today a chester county girl got

a christmas gift when her older brother made an unexpected appearance. >> her brother is in the army, but today he came back to surprise her and her classmates at the kindergarten center. as you can see the younger sis did not want to let her big brother go. that's so great. and the perch's not looking too bad either. glen, a little bit of everything this weekend. >> yeah, that's right. it's kind of chilly right now, but it will not be anywhere near this cold by this time tomorrow night. we're going to be a lot milder. 33 in philadelphia. in the 20s in many of the suburbs right now. but it's not going to cool down anymore during the night tonight, and by tomorrow morning

may actually be a little bit warmer than it is now. a lot more moisture on the way. nothing too well organized. we're starting to see an increase in the showers in indiana and illinois and some of that is headed this way. not so much during the daytime hours tomorrow. again, lot more cloud, but the temperature will get up probably over 50 degrees. but here comes the rain, and yeah, it's way too warm for anything but rain tomorrow night and into saturday. here we are tomorrow night with some of the rain. then another batch comes in on saturday, could be multiple hours of it, especially from philadelphia northward. farther south we are, the less rain we're going to see and the warmer it's going to be on saturday. but you can still see saturday night, more rain. but that's clearing out. and we're drying out on sunday. may even see some sunshine.

then more moisture comes back from the west, which you'll see in a second. tomorrow we've got clouds, no precipitation during the daytime hours. 53 tacony, 51 in langhorn, 48 in redding despite lots of clouds all day. 52 in newark, delaware. now let's see what happens later on sunday, moisture starts coming in from the west. and it's going to be kind of borderline. in the philadelphia area i still think the odds favor rain versus snow. but in the northern western areas, lee high valley, burkes county, especially the pokanos, think there's going to be some snow. now, this is christmas eve, but you may have to stay up late to see it because early in the morning, christmas morning, it may already be gone. we're talking about a limited period, not very heavy, but

there could be flakes. christmas eve and early christmas morning, especially north and west. as you can see how cold it is compared to saturday, warm and wet. sunday is colder, but it is on the dry side. and then christmas day itself we have that chance of a little bit of the mixture depending on where you are at 6:00 a.m., and then the temperatures are in the 30s throughout it day. but it is windy, and that is going to continue into the eagles game. it's going to be windy. it's going to be very cold. it's going to feel like it's in the teens for the eagles game on monday night. hi, guys. going head to head. stay tuned. it's great.
