that breaking news. stand off suspect found dead an hours long barricade swagts sparked by a man firing shots at police. just ended minutes ago. good evening i'm jim rosenfield. this lasted for about nine hours. forcing neighbors to shelter in place. as the suspect exchanged gunfire with police. nbc10 drew smith has been in the neighborhood all night long. how did this come to ean end? >> negotiation has been gong on since 1:30. they have been trying to get this guy to surrender. the gunshots kept coming hour after hour. finally police are wrapping up here on the scene. the house is just down the hill. again hours of attempted negotiation. the emergency response team just

made entry in the past 20 minutes. the suspect dead tonight. >> reporter: the call came out as a medical emergency. quickly es kated as responding officers attempting to help someone ended up on the receiving end of a hail of bullets. a witness was recording as a shelter in place order went out. swat team moved into place. some in camouflage pulling out long guns. you can see officers taking cover. as police reported automatic gunfire from a home on dennis street. >> the quick rapid fire. >> they were told fwet in the house don't go out. don't take the dog out. just stay in and stay away from the window. >> reporter: neighbors either stuck inside on the friday night. or kept out of the neighborhood entirely. >> the whole side of town is locked down. it took me from just in this area 45 minutes.

>> we're stuck. >> reporter: robert once served in the million tear. and recognizes the sound coming from the scene. but never expected it to happen here. >> that's the reason i moved here. to get out of the chaos in the city. >> so people who live in the neighborhood finally able to move around freely again. people were sleeping in their cars outside of the prip perimeter. what happened to the person who was reportedly injured. the call came out a as a medical call. we'll keep you updated. >> so see these things happening before christmas. it's heartbreaking. >> those are the words of a rattled neighbor who watched children being thrown from a window during a house fire. that fast moving fire ripped through a home in kensington.

where a grandmother threw her grandchildren and had to jump herself. we spoke with neighbors when came to the rescue. >> we're told one of the neighbors tried running in here through door. but the smoke and fires too much. she yelled upstairs to the grandmother to throw the kids down. thankfully the grandmother and those three kids made it out safely. >> i was at my house. and so i went out when i heard the yelling. and i saw the smoke. >> there was no time to think. video shows the fire was moving quickly through her neighbors house. >> she was really scared. i think the hardest thing for her was to throw the first child out. >> reporter: inside the home were three kids under age five. including an infant. neighbors told her to throw the

kids from the second story window. neighbors captured some of the frantic moments on their cell phone. he was also outside. and took care of one of the children. >> i do what i have to do. >> reporter: one by one the kids were tossed down below. two were caught on the dor step. the gram jumped from the second floor as well. they tried catching her. she was rushed to the hospital. >> as a mom, i would want someone to do the same for mine. i can't imagine how their mother is feeling. it's sad to see this happen before christmas. it's heartbreaking. >> we're told mom was at work. during the fire. those three kids are at the hospital. being checked out. still no word on a cause. turning now to first alert weather. bundled up on a night in the

storms coming through. that's towards dinner time. and that is the last of it. it will be mild. some places getting into the 60s. we try out on sunday. temperatures are in the 40s right now. and going to be in the 40s in the morning. near 60 in the afternoon. we have cold and we may have a white christmas. a chaotic afternoon of gunfire near the state capitol in harrisburg. ended with a gunman dead and investigation under way to figure out a motive. the gunman fired shots at police at three different locations starting at 4:00 p.m. the suspect was later killed in a shoot ut with police. the bomb squad had to be called to the scene after a device fts found near the gunman. that has been removed. it's unclear what it is. one officer was slightly hurt. holding candles and wearing white sunglasses a community fwathered to remember a grandfather. killed in his home earlier this

temperatures near 60 degrees over good bit of the area. i'm doubting it will reach up to the lee high valley. we dry out. on saturday night. and we're dry during the day sunday. get some sunshine. it's chilly. on sunday. and then sunday night. 7:00 it's dry. christmas eve. but out of nowhere here it comes. late in the evening. looks like rain from philadelphia south ward. snow in the mountains. lee high valley. and an area where it will be marginal. this is only going to last for a couple hours. you can't just wait until the morning. it's all going on over. we're talking about few hours of this. at most. and maybe an inch or two. up in the lee high valley. temperatures tomorrow. 62. 60 lang horn.

only in the 40s in easten and allen town. 46 degrees. that's my forecast. and yet in the 60s in other parts of the area. huge temperature contrast tomorrow. we do neighborhood weather here. and it's going to be windy at the shore. over the holiday weekend as a whole. warm and wet on saturday. dry on sunday. but chilly and really cold on christmas day. and windy. so by the time the eagles get going, it is going to be really cold. temperatures in to the upper 20s. with winds. that's going to make it feel like the teens. and after that, we go through the week and more moisture comes in. this is a more significant storm. but this is coming later in the week. next friday and into saturday.
