no stone unturned. investigators look for new clues after a girls mysterious death at a sleep over. >> new jersey homeowners have days left to save money on property taxes. punching her ticket. why the eagles are sending this woman to the super bowl. right now at 11. tonight's frigid whether had people showing their breath and protecting as many body parts as possible from the cold. even local firefighters needed warm drink and some road salt to keep the icy conditions at bay. nbc10 will show us the challenges firefighters face on the frigid night. first alert team coverage begins

with meteorologist glen hurricane schwartz. temperatures dropped into dangerously cold territory. >> we're getting closer to 0. as far as feels like temperature. the wind is still blowing and coming from the northwest. which is bringing in even colder air. across the country. in to our area. first awe letter covers our entire area. the worst of it is of course in the lee high valley. from now until 8:00 a.m. on friday. it will be bitter cold the rest ot night. all day tomorrow all night tomorrow night. as low as 15 below. feels like and near zero in the philadelphia area. by the time you get up in the morning. unless you sleep real late. 19 right now for the temperature in philadelphia. 14 in blue bell. and 16 in trenten. and atlantic city it's cold everywhere. and we still have wind.

so it's feeling like one in lancaster. two in pots town. eight in philadelphia. and these numbers will continue to go down during the night. we'll let you know how cold it will feel when you get up and the when the next snow is coming. weather coverage continues now with nbc10 aaron live at frank lip square. it's not just the cold but the ice causing problems. >> certainly. especially for firefighters. who are out here trying to work and keep people safe. franklin square take a look at this fountain. it's starting ice over. that gives you a look at the conditions. there are a lot of people in this area by the fire pits just bundled up. huddled around there trying to keep warm. and some trying to have fun. others of course were out there trying to do their jobs. >> one look at firefighters and

you get an instant feel of the harsh conditions outside. suits and visors are full of ice. the cars out front are also iced over. firefighters needed to throw salt down because of the deep freeze. >> my neighbor house caught on fire. >> reporter: cell phone video shows a fast moving fire tearing through a home. she is one of several residents forced from her house. out into the cold. with barely any clothes. >> it's the worst. that's all i can say it's the worst. >> reporter: tonight a handful of city workers including thomas are on fire watch. they drive around making sure first responders are safe. by salting streets. they show up to scenes for fires and water main breaks. any time it gets colder than 32 degrees. >> a will the of accidents happen. black ice. and it's dangerous. >> many still brave the dangerous conditions to be with

family and friends at franklin square. everyone was all bundled up around a fire. staring at the fountain starting to ice over. >> let's go oud and hang out tonight what was your thought. >> first i thought she was crazy. we're getting old. and i said where's all my winter stuff. >> one more look right now at the fountain. people have been stopping by taking photographs. the weather is not going to warm up any time soon. as for the fire, one person was taken to the hop. the red cross is working with six other folks to find them shelter. >> this deep freeze is dangerous for people and pets. today we were with an animal control officer. shefrs she was out enforcing a new law that puts tougher restrictions on the care of pets out door. it's illegal to leave unattended pets exposed to excessively hot

whoever shot a teenager outside a dunken donuts. police haven't released the identity of the victim. but the superintendent of the school district sent a letter to parents saying the victim is a ninth grade student. that teenager is now in serious condition. investigators and police canines were sent to the home where an 11 year-old girl died in the middle of a sleep over. drew smith is live at the scene. where this investigation lasted through the night. >> that police tape is still up. there's a police car on the block. it has been such a tough night for the family. detectives just aren't sure how this eleven year-old died inside this home. during a sleep over. tonight they are pursuing all sorts of possibilities. >> reporter: a sad and uncertain night on an gus place.

as people hug outside the crime tape. several kids were in a second floor bedroom having a sleep over. the parents were home and had to call 911 when an eleven year-old girl didn't wake up it morning. they notified the childs mother and began cpr but couldn't revive the child. >> it's devastating. really sad. >> reporter: tonight a canine searched for drugs and the crime scene unit processed the home for evidence. detectives have not determined if a crime took place. >> the age of the victim. it was a concern right away. we're taking all the steps. >> reporter: there were no sign of trama and the child didn't have a known medical condition. >> everybody is cooperating. the families are friendly with each other. so they want answers too. >> reporter: these investigators work. this shocking death happening inle the midof school vacation. >> very nice kids. they all played out here.

>> obviously an eleven year-old is heartbreaking this time of year. and we're taking all the steps. >> police are not releasing the name of the girl. and autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow. along with hopefully some answers. tonight philadelphia police believe they have the car involved in a deadly hit and run in over brook. the search for the driver continues. anthony rogers was can i feeled as he crossed city avenue around 10:00 last night. police found this red car abandoned. they believe it is the car that hit the 58 year-old. surveillance video showed rogers getting off his bus and starting to cross the street. at the top of the screen you can see a car come speeding toward him. it hits rogers then that car speeds right off. 16 year-old murder suspect will stand trial in the shooting death of two teenagers.

shooting and killing. he shot them during an argument back in october. at the end of the hearing today the judge spoke out about a gun culture in society. asking where are adults. >> he certainly is right. can't disagree with that. >> there are young kids. 15 and 16 year-old polluting the stroets with guns. that's going to get that type of reaction out of the judge. >> also in court a 15 year-old friend of the victim testified. he refused to answer most of the questions. the serge is on tonight for the robbers who forced a man from his home at gunpoint and made him take out cash from several atms. one of the three suspects. they took the victim to three banks and a wa wa. forcing him to get cash. inside the victim yelled for help. and one of the suspects is seen running away.

new jersey is making it ease your for people to save money on property taxes. at least for 2018. governor christy ordered towns to accept prepayment for next year. as long as they're made by december 31. many are troo uing to prepay because of the new tax law. that puts people in new jersey at a disadvantage because they have the highest property tax in the nation. more than 10,000 patients registered to participate in the medical marijuana program. governor said today patients should start getting the drug in four months. pennsylvania is among 29 states plus the district of columbia to legalize medical marijuana. coming up. eagles surprise this woman with tickets to the big game. the birds chances for a championship. plus a lottery let down.

the super-er bowl. a woman's work to help sick children earned her tickets to the big game. how the eagles pulled off the surprise. >> reporter: it all started with a thread. pillows sown by a mother for her 12 year-old son fighting bone cancer. >> there's nothing better than seeing your child smile. because oftentimes you don't see that in the hospital. >> reporter: she kept sewing. even after her son lost his battle. a decade later her non-profit has sewn 1.6 million pillows for kids. the eagles took notice. >> i turned around here comes doug pederson. >> to reveal the surprise behind the tree. >> because of your hard work. and dedication. and everything you have done.

monday high only 19. today remember we got to 27. it will be colder than this. into next week. 19 at the airport now. 16 in park side. 18 in all the locations in northeast philly. and it's still going down. we're going into the single digits for feels like temperatures over night tonight. by tomorrow morning zero in philadelphia. burling ton. two below in trenten. four below in west chester. that is mighty cold. normally it warms up during the day. especially when you have sunshine. and it's not. there's 11:30. still feeling like one below. measly four in philadelphia. in the afternoon in the single digits. it is frigid all day. tomorrow. then all night tomorrow night.

there's thursday night. still single digits. friday morning. friday afternoon, little less brutal. not exactly warming up. friday afternoon. or even into saturday morning. feeling like six in doil town. this is an extended period. after the cold, comes some snow. not so much friday or friday night. but here we are saturday morning. we have an area from the west. this is not a strong storm. doesn't have a lot of moisture. you don't see any circulation in the wind arrows. it could intensify a bit towards the shore. in the afternoon. so that might be the place to get more than others. not much snowfalls but the roads are all going to be so cold that anything sticks. there's saturday. the least cold. and sunday and monday just brutal. high temperatures on monday only

a local high school band is about to hit the national stage. earlier this morning the marching band boarded bus on the

first leg of the journey to southern california. the band is one of the 14 bands which will perform in the tournament of roses parade in on new years day. 400 bands entered the competition chl you can watch it live at 11:00 a.m. right here on nbc10. it will be much warmer there. >> i'm going to need stuff to keep me warm. a lot of gloves. will brand dan gram be ready for the play offs. two reasons why eagles want to play in the regular seasonfial le. a markelle fultz signing. could he be on the practice field? that's next.
