strut their stuff down broad street today. there were much more comfortable conditions for the fancy brigade. they put on a show inside the pennsylvania convention center tonight. and tonight a new year. but the same frigid weather. now we're tracking the chance for more snow. tammie souza, what's the timing? >> it could be midweek. we have to get past this cold snap first before we look ahead. what you need to know. we have dangerous cold out there. the first alert is through tomorrow morning at 8:00. it will be cold after that. but the bitter cold dangerous windchills will start to taper off. for tonight we'll see 0 to 15 degrees for the temperature. feels like as low as minus ten. cover all your exposed skin if you go out. and special care for the pets. we'll talk about this snow. t going to be possible with the big coastal snow storm system that will form wednesday night

in new jersey. stock ton university freshman was along four people killed yesterday. her parents and a family friend gunned down by her 16 year-old brother in the home. the boys brother and grandfather escaped unharmed. the gun used was legally registered to someone inside the family. >> this is a rel isolated first time incident. we have don't have history of calls to the home. >> he just opened firen them. and i don't know why. >> the 16 year-old is being tried as an adult. neighbors say the suspect had special needs. also tonight a sightseeing tour ends in tragedy. 12 people died when a plane crashed in the woods of costa rica. a family with ties to montgomery county are among the dead.

that a whole family should meet with such a dissaster. >> reporter: also among the dead. mitchell and lezly. along with their kids. they have local roots in montgomery county. a they're still trying to register the loss. >> tonight investigators are trying to figure out why the plane crashed into the mountain. new video tonight of a bucks county home damaged by a driver who appears to have over dosed. it happened yesterday around 6:00. investigators say the driver was unconscious when he left the road. and crashed into the home. a man inside the home was injured in the crash. a family pet was killed after it escaped during the chaos. and got hit by a car. charges are expected to be filed. president trump is back in washington. after his holiday vacation in florida. and landed right in the midof two major international developments. the first is playing out in

iran. 13 people killed during ongoing antigovernment protests. you can see buildings lit on fire. windows were smashed. the protests stem from frustration over the countries economic issues. they started small. it's now a nationwide movement. the other in north korea. the leader is warning the u.s. the nuclear forces are reality and not a threat. he used his new years day address to warn the u.s. against testing him. saying we're in range. he said he has a nuclear button on his desk. they tested 18 missiles last yore. it's hard to prove the claim based on current evidence. back here at home. allen town police are investigating their first homicide of the year. two people shot inside this house along turner street this morning. nbc10 learned seven shots were fired. one victim died another in the

hospital in critical condition. >> it's a sad statement for the state of the city. and the area. >> 17 homicides in 2017. the highest number in a decade. even though he's facing federal charges that could put him in prison. the mayor of allen town. he was worn in for his fourth term tonight. the democrat is accused of taking campaign contributions along with 53 other charges. including conspiracy and fraud. criminal trial starts in two weeks. he is pleaded not guilty. meanwhile a new mayor in atlantic city. he says the first thing is to find out where atlantic city stands financially. he says he plans to meet with state officials and get the feet back on the ground. former miss america is taking over the reigns of the em

full moon of 2018. this is video from earlier tonight. of the super moon over the sky in center city. the first full moon of the new year is named after howling wolves. tonight super moon will be the biggest and brightest of the year. tonight it's the first of several busy nights in the sky this month. sky watchers can catch the meteor shower. through january 10. fast forward to january 31st a blue moon. and people here in the east coast will be treated to a lunar eclipse. now to an emotional story at a this years mummers parade. there was a new face out front leading the string band this year. take a listen. that is eleven year-old jake chl the sixth grader took over as captain. from his father ted who died suddenly in october. watch this.

at the end of the performance, his emotions take over. he was handed a bunch of roses that he left right there in the square. where his father had stood for 32 years. all right also tonight. speaking of that parade a father makes a life saving plea during the parade. brandon hudson shows us how this mummer is hoping for a miracle. >> i got my own special chili that i make. >> he loves cooking. he showed us what he whipped up in the kitchen for new years. food is his passion. so are the mummers. he loves the parade. >> it's something i look forward to every day. >> reporter: this year he made a statement. with his sign asking for a kidney. >> my son held the sign. loud and proud. we told hem you'll help dad with that sign. >> reporter: that's him with his son and nephew. holding signs in the parade.

most people were celebrating the new year three families were celebrating their new bundles of joy. at the stroke of midnight. here they are. so adorable. all right if you thought you were cold today, it was nothing like what these people were feeling. dozens brave the frinld temperatures and ran into the ocean for the 27th annual polar bear plunge. the cold forced others to cancel. but they kept the tradition going this year. no thank you. temperatures will keep plunging this week. we could get snow as well. chief meteorologist is tracking it all for us. the resident plunger too. you have done the polar plunge. >> i have. i would not want to carry my

effect snow kicking up. nothing else that's really evident at this point. by the time with e get into about midday on wednesday. there's a storm system coming up the coastline. develop and merge with the system that comes out of the midwest and this is going to spread snow. across portions of the east coast and the knot east. depending on how close this very intense area of low pressure is to the coastline, will determine whether we get rain, flurries or a whole lot of shoveling snow. let's go ahead and take it hour by hour. and break it down. we'll wake up tomorrow morning. between about ten, 12 degrees here in philadelphia. across the area the low 20s. plenty of sunshine. quiet. you don't see snow. wednesday we make it into the midand upper 20s. here comes the system. at this point all the models have some snow in the area. it's how much. you can see it's starting to move in wednesday night. it's moving out by the time we get through the morning rush.

the high school marching band took some time to smell the roses today. in pas dean california. the long orange line was one of 16 bands from around the world. that marched in today's tournament of the roses parade. what an awesome opportunity for those guys down there. send it over to john clark now. eagles are marching into the play offs. could some of pedersons assistants be leaving after the season? we'll tell you about possible interviews for them. has nick lost some confidence? we'll hear from an eagles analyst and the quarterback himself.
