meteorologist tammie souza. you're tracking the snow that's heading our way. >> the timing of it is everything. it's the trek. how close it is to the shore that determines how much snow we're going to get. we have a first alert in effect for tomorrow. this is going to be tomorrow night through friday. so we're tell iing you and gettg you ready for it. this is a majoren winter storm from new jersey to new england. somebody is going to get two feet of snow. i u don't b think that's us, but it's going to be a big one. snow and e blowing snow. this is for tomorrow night. we'll see the snow falling first in places like southern delaware and south jersey and make its way northward. that's going to linger through thursday and start tapering off. the places that we have placed in the first alert are philadelphia, new jersey area and south jersey, delaware and all of the pennsylvania suburbs. this is a coastal storm. it's rapidly going to intensify. it's known as a meteorological bomb because it becomes so intense at the center. it's almost like a hurricane at

the center. you're probably shaking your head saying they just don't know. we do know. places like the lehigh value lea may get a dusting and some areas could dpet a foot. here's a quick look. you can see offshore that's where we're going to see the center of this. if it tracks further west, we're going to get heavier snow across the entire area. if it tracks further to the east, we'll get lighter snow amounts. we'll break all that down and we'll have the snow amounts that we think are going to fall in just a few minutes. >> in the meantime, this bitter blast just won't let up, but it's not keeping everyone inside. >> we spotted a few people walking around the frozen lake earlier today. from south jersey, we go to the lehigh valley. a live look from our camera at the ppl center. the feels liken temperature is in the teens.

meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the cold in r your most accurate weather forecast. >> it's going to get worse friday and saturday. this is bad enough. the average high is 41. we got up to 28 on saturday. 20 yesterday. 24 during the day today. 31 tomorrow. close to the freezing mark. then it goes back down for a few days. 24 in philadelphia now. only 19 in coatesville. and with the wind ghdiminishing we have gotten rid of the most sing is l digit windchills. it's 7 in lancaster. and in allentown, 9 in reading. and as we look through tomorrow, not as brutal. the morning feels like 10. by 10:00 a.m. feeling like 17. 3:00, 26. and the similar type of rise

with a fair amount of sunshine, especially in the morning across the entire area. so we're starting in the teens for the feels like. 10:00 a.m., getting closer to 20. and by 3:00, some places actually feeling like it's close to 30 degrees. but we're talking about dangerous cold, perhaps record cold as we go after this next storm. we'll get into those brutal numbers coming up. >> some of the areas coldest temperatures are up in. the lehigh valley. they are trying to make repairs. steven fisher joining us live from bethlehem. >> you spoke with one homeowner who is paying the price because of this brutal cold. >> he's spend iing the first b winter in his new home.

the problem is he doesn't have heat. he told us that he tried to get it fixed right away, but a lot of other people are having the same problems. >> they were inundated with calls. ien couldn't get anyone out until tuesday. everyone said the same thing. >> we actually just bought the house. not something i was expecting. >> he can't get his house above 63 degrees. >> in the 30s it handled it. . then it seems like once it dropped in the teens, we just couldn't do it. >> a technician came out and diagnosed the problem. >> the service manager says to prevent issues, keep up on regular maintenance and check the air filters.

cold weather also causing a lot of problems with b water mains around the area. a water main break in northeast philadelphia is expected to be fixed over the next few hours. this was overnight in parkwood 125 properties were affected. the water was freezing over and causing icy problems. >> it was a mess. >> usually it takes crews 8 to 10 hours to completely fix a break like this wub. they have been working on the fix since this morning. and a similar scene in red sox bo ro. a main burst caused icy conditions along henry avenue. it affected about 20 homes here and a couple houses had water running inside. that water is back on for those people. in montgomery county, crews are making repairs after a large water main broke there. it slowed water pressure for people in ten different communities. they are saying to limit their use of tap water.

replace franken. multiple women have accused franken of sexual harassment including this woman. she was the first woman to go public claiming franken forcibly kissed her without her consent. franken groped her while sleeping here and included this photo of him appearing to place his hands on her chest. this morning firefighters rescued 16 people after another fire ripped through a building in the bronx in new york. nine children were among those hurt. thick smoke poured from the windows as crews bat. led the fire that started in a furniture store. it's not clear what sparked the flames. everyone is is expected to survi survive. there have been several large fires just this past week. last thursday 12 people including 5 children died during this apartment fire in the bu burro. investigators say a toddler started that fire playing with a stove. a grand jury is recommending

that an independent agency investigate a deadly shooting involving police officer troopers. it stems from an incident last may. two troopers killed a man who threatened to blow himself up. the north hampton county grand jury recommended that. troopers wear body cameras. the upcoming pyeongchang winter olympics serve iing as a catalyst for talks between north and south korea. south korea has offered to meet with north korea next week to find ways to cooperate on the games. south korea's president says he sees this as a possible breakthrough. he's been trying to convince the north to participate in the games and sit down for talks. president trump said a series of tweets and north korea was the topic of one of them. he wrote, sanctions and other pressures are beginning to have a big impact on north korea. soldiers are dangerously fleeing to south korea. rocket man want s s to talk to south korea for first time. perhaps that's good news. perhaps not. we'll see. wirnlt games are five weeks

night. it looks deceiving and sunny and beautiful. we have been dealing with this for awhile. e we know the truth when you step outside. >> we're watching from inside. glen is here to break down what we're in for for the next couple days. >> it's going to look nice to a lot of folks. and the further east you are toward the shore, the more snow you're going to get. the first alert starts at the places that's likely to get the most and getting less. jersey shore, southern jersey, suburbs it starts at 9:00 tomorrow night. although any accumulation may start closer to midnight. it goes until thursday noon even though some flurries could be falling after that. snow and blowing snow. the thursday morning commute is the one we're concerned about. as if this b isn't bad enough, it's going to get worse than this. 24 in philadelphia. we barely gotten there today. low 20s across much of the rest of the area.

parts of delaware are going to be close to the freezing mark. it's 24 in wilmington. 24 at the beach. these areas are going to be at or above freezing when the snow starts. and then the snow will knock the temperatures down. feels like temperatures down to 7. pottstown, allentown, lancaster is going above single digits. feeling like almost compared to what we have seen. 33 in swanksville. only 28 for the high in allentown. wildwood at 33.

longport at 34 degrees. we have a lot of sunshine today. we have a whole bunch of things coming together for this storm. this is down by florida. already seeing some of the rain. that's one of the ingredients. we have another area in the the middle of the country. mostly just clouds. and then we have another piece up top. right in the ocean to create really a monstrous storm. and the track would normally be too far offshore to get much of anything. but this thing is so huge that the moisture can come all the way back to our area. if the track was closer to the coast, we'd be getting more. speaking of getting more, that's new england. ien wouldn't be recommending travel up to boston.

it's going to be a will the of cancelled flights. that goes up towards canada. closer to home, we'll show you the temperatures. it's going to be cold tonight but not as brow tall as it has been. cold tomorrow morning. tomorrow afternoon it's getting a little less nasty. then here comes the snow. that's tomorrow night and into thursday morning's rush. notice the. temperatures. it's all sticking. how much snow? computer models are getting into more agreement now. the trend being less to the west and more toward the shore. there could even be up to 8 to 10 inches.

>> meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking this bitter cold that b won't seem to let up. our team coverage continues with tammie souza on more on the timing and the impact of the snow. >> it's going to intensify as it passes us. it depends on how close it is to the coastline as to how much snow we're going to get across the area. it's going to be a big range. some places may get just a dusting. others could pick up ten inches. we have the winter storm for snow and blowing snow. this is wednesday night and thursday. this includes philadelphia, south jersey, delaware and the pennsylvania suburbs and it does include the jersey shore which could see the highest amounts. thursday morning's commute could be a bit of a mess. we're going to see snow-packed

roads and we're going to see dangerous cold come in. the coldest air we have seen so far. even colder than we just saw. let's take a look at the system. i'm going to run you through it hour by hour. here we go on thursday. this is 4:30 in the morning. so delaware, south jersey impacted for the morning commute. as it wares on it moves across philadelphia. that's going to be through about mid-afternoon dumping some snow. the lesser amounts are expected to be west of that i-95 corridor. but if this track is any further to the west, we're going to see more snow dipping in by thursday evening. most of this is off to the north of us hitting new england quite hard. we are going to be looking for the heaviest amounts right here along the jersey shore is especially the northern portion of the jersey shore. we'll have more on the neighborhood totals coming up in a few minutes. right now back over to you. >> as you mentioned, people up the shore bracing for the worst of the snow. some of the ocean is already frozen over and the strong winds are caused for concern as well.

cydney long is live in ocean city cape may county. >> you found a lot of people in a hurry to head home for the holiday ahead of the snow. >> reporter: it's probably pretty obvious to you. we don't have very much company out here with us on the boardwalk. so the answer is yes. many are cutting their vacation a day or two short to hit the road well before the snow starts at the shore. tomorrow night others not particularly excited for what mother nature has browing, but they say they are prepared. >> i kind of. the snow but i kind of don't. >> reporter: she will be back home after her holiday vacation by the time the storm socks the shore with snow. cape may sunset beach looked like a frozenen tundra. the water frozen solid against the beach. the storm could deliver wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. but for bill of cape may. >> i'm concerned. particularly the high winds.

that could bring with it that snow, wibds and then water by means of flood waters as well. those icy conditions with more frigid air at the end of this week. we're live in ocean city, cydney long is, nbc 10 news. >> i'm kind of with that little girl at the top of your piece. i kind of want the snow but i kind of don't. >> i kind of don't, for the record. the snow is is just more weather to deal with on top of the bitter cold. e we caught up with people at a wawa in new castle county who are taking care of their vehicles in the brutal weather. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the temperatures in your most accurate weather forecast. >> not as cold today as the last couple days. that does not say much. still brutal out there. it does not say much when our high temperature is about 24 degrees and that is the least cold day that we have seen in a little while.

24 degrees after two days with the high of 20. we have had windchills below zero. even in philadelphia. yesterday morning. but by friday, it may be closer to 15 to 20 below zero. but look at this. by tomorrow we may get close to the freezing mark. i know the average high is 41, but it will be awhile before we get there. 24 in philadelphia. still below 20 in coatesville, lancaster, but it's close. and not as windy as it has been. so most of the feels like numbers are over 10. the beach, a balmy 23. but it feels like 9 in reading and coatesville and 7 in allentown. now as we go through the night tonight, you're going to notice there's the temperature and

through thursday noon, which will be followed by dangerous cold. the snow and blowing snow with this particular storm. it's just in the low to mid-20s now. you know we're way below normal. the ocean is only 31 degrees. the west wind is 23 in upper township. 24 in summers point. stone harbor and cape may point. those areas are going to see a decent amount of snow by thursday afternoon. we have feels like temperatures in the single digits. north and west but then that is averaging day after day. but not tomorrow. reading at 31 degrees. after a cold night, it will warm up and be less wind tomorrow.

so that's going to be a good day to take care of some business. and now we have several combinations coming together. we have the storm offshore. we have a little bit of moisture in the middle of the country. we have a front up north. look at this. it's snowing in the gulf of mexico. and that's going to snow so here it goes. it's a monster. the more intense the storm. and that's kind of why they call it a bomb. these lines they seem to get together so fast. on the cold side of it, it's snow. there's no question it's going to be all snow. and then it intensifies even more as it goes east of new
