snow. >> we're safe through the afternoon rush tomorrow. that is a sure bet. but eventually we'll be seeing some snow. that's why we have the first alert. jersey shore, delaware, philadelphia, pa suburbs, much of our area except for the lehigh valley. from 9:00 p.m. tomorrow to thursday at noon, snow and blowing snow. we're concerned about the thursday morning commute. and the dangerous cold after the storm. not expecting to get the worst of the thing but it doesn't take a whole lot and we didn't even have a rush hour. and the roads were a mess. . they were cold. look at this. by tomorrow afternoon, it's snowy in georgia. it's just developing. it's tracking far enough shore.

we're not going to get the worst of this. generally a track this far out we wouldn't get any. the moisture does come back far enough to get at least some snow. closer to the storm, the more snow you get. up to 10 inches in parts of ocean and mammoth counties. down into parts of sussex county. and then as we go to the west, nearly nothing. that's why we have neighborhood weather. more on what to suspect the rest of the week. >> that snow is heading straight toward an already frozen jersey shore. just gt video showing the beach in lower cape may county. cydney long is joining us live in ocean city. people there are preparing to get hit with snow.

>> they definitely are. the system still very much brewing out at sea. they can handle the snow, but what they are concerned about is the high winds. and this take a lock at this super moon. that's what has people here most concerned. >> it's cold. it's cold. >> in sheer awe of mother nature and the rock solid frozen shoreline at sunset beach, she and her husband don't plan to stick around for what could be a dangerous snowstorm. >> it was terrible. we want to go home where it's safe. >> reporter: wednesday night a system could dump 3 to 6 inches of snow at the shore and do so packing 50-mile-per-hour gusts.

>> it's more windy here than philadelphia. >> we saw decorations getting take b down. >> for the next two or three days. >> we're going to be concentrating on rock salts, fluorides, heaters. >> storm and winter essentials front and center. salt will no doubt go quickly. firewood, flashlights also a hot commodity to survive the cold. and the salt plows are ready to roll too. some worry about high winds with a nor'easter it's like a winter hurricane. there's tidal flooding. a lot of areas flood out. >> reporter: others, frozen pipes. >> that was our fear. we'd come back and find a flood in the house or the yard and it would be an ice rink. >> just be prepared for whatever is going to come your way. you never know. >> and another look at the super

moon over the boardwalk here at ocean city. it's too dark to show you the surf, but it definitely feels colder with the winds coming in off the ocean. ocean city officials tell me they have a full stockpile of salt at the ready as well as their it plow crews ready to handle whatever mother nature has in store. we're live in ocean city, cydney long, nbc 10 news. several schools around our area struggled with the cold today as students headed back to school from the holiday break. the cold caused several pipes to burst. students left early and in delaware the middle school students were let out early because of heating problems. this cold snap is also raeking havoc for homeowners. they tell nbc 10 they helped about 90 families get money. most people who qualify for food stamps or income assistance qualify for energy assistance. benefits range from 200 to $1,000.

the report. a man b with ties to our area akuszed in a shooting in maryland is now indicted. they handed down charges this afternoon. police say prince shot and killed three workers at advanced granite solutions in maryland. this was back in october. two others were hurt. police captured him in delaware after a manhunt as he remains locked up. we're learning more about the deadly shooting of four people at the hands of a 15-year-old. that boy is facing murder charges after police say he gunned down his parents, sister and the family friend. today the prosecutor announced that each of the victims was shot multiple times at close range. the weapon used in the killings was a registered semiautomatic rifle. new video tonight of a double shooting ingermantown. two people were shot while walking early this morning. the gunfire is coming from that right there. a man and a woman are in the

tomorrow night as it heads up the coast towards our area. let's bring in meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. everyone wants to know about the timing for our snow. how does it look? >> it's well after the rush tomorrow afternoon. don't worry about travel then. this is one of the places to get hit the hardest in cape may. we're going to be seeing some of that snow pile up there among other places south jersey, delaware, philly, all in the first alert for the snow. now not so much for the amounts of snow, but remember what happened on saturday. it doesn't take a lot of snow to mess up the roads when the roads are cold. even the well-traveled roads we had some problems. wednesday at 9:00 p.m. to thursday noon, that means the rush there's going to be a problem. and dangerous cold comes after that. and winds, we have wind gus of

50 miles per hour after that. this monster storm, a huge storm. and if you don't like snow, you are happy that it's tracking pretty far offshore because if it came straight up the coast, look at this snow in north carolina. even north georgia is is going to get snow from this thing. it's going to be on the western edge because of that offshore track. it's going to throw enough moisture back. but how much snow is the big question. it intensifies and goes up into cana canada. lesser amounts of snow. if you're in western chester county or poconos, you call that a storm. but then along the jersey shore, that's pretty nasty. several inches of snow, plus all that wind. most of it is going to be offshore winds. now parts of southern delaware may have a bay effect with the

wind coming in off the bay adding to the snowfall there. down to 17 in the suburbs. it's really cold out there. and ins county, not getting a lot of snow but you're getting a lot of cold. that's plenty cold. but we still have feels like temperatures in the single digits in much of the area. that's now. now look at the feels like temperature on friday at 5:00 a.m. that is worse than anything we have seen so far. saturday is going to be bad too. tomorrow not an issue. we may get above freezing in parts of the area. 28 in allentown. 33 in wildwood. 34 in dover. we had some decent weather for one day.
