today you haven't seen the worst of it. colder conditions and now snow. >> take a look at the storm developing off the east coast. the system could bring more than six inches of snow to the area. >> here's a live look. the jersey shore could see the worst of the storm. >> this is a live look at center city. the entire area could be seeing snow from this storm. nbc10 has team coverage from all angles to keep you prepared as this wornt storm heads our way. we begin with first alert chief meteorologist tammie souza. you're timing this out for us. >> we're watching the track. a 50 mile difference either way in the track of the storm means a lot of shoveling or a little. so the first alert is for the jersey shore. south jersey. delaware. philadelphia and pennsylvania sb you shalls. for the snow. it's headed in tomorrow night through at least the first half of thursday. the first alert is for 9:00 tomorrow night. through noon on thursday. we could see snow before and after the time period. that's just the time period

right now that we're focussed on. we'll be adjusting it. it's a rapidly evolving situation. it is for the snow. there will be 20 to 40 mrp winds along with this on thursday. a lot of blowing snow. this is mainly the morning commute. the ground is frozen. even an inch is going to be a mess. following that dangerous cold arrives once again. coldest we have seen so far. let's look. tomorrow night that storm system is making its way in to southern delaware. south jersey and the jersey shore. by the time the morning commute starts we'll be in the thin band of snow making its wau through the area. when i come back we'll talk about the totals for your neighborhood. and also talk about how cold it will get at the end of the week. >> now to the impact live here at i 95. rite now the cold isn't just impacting people it's taking a big toll on thousands of cars in the area. >> the autoshops are getting extra business.

the temperatures are killing car batteries and flattening tires. how to make sure your ride keeps going in the weather. >> think about this. locally in the area triple a received 2,500 calls by 9:00. there are things you can do to make sure you can avoid that situation. check your tires. especially the air pressure. pop the hood right here. make sure first and foremost two fluids are levelled off the antifreeze and oil. kp check the battery. it's the sound of the season. mechanics busy at work. so kenny brought his ride here to the triple a center in south philly. >> i don't want to get standed. you get stuck. >> reporter: since christmas triple a received 15,000 calls from the philadelphia 5 county area.

harder. the fire started just before 5:00 on the roof of the showroom. the chief tells us the water from the hoses mixed with the freezing temperatures created a dangerous situation. >> we're hampered by the ice. public works came out and put rock saltd down. and fire was put under control in two hours. >> no one was hurt. investigators are working to figure out what sparked the fire. >> a will the of stress on everyone's home heating systems. routine maintenance is the first step to prevent issues. check air filters. fuel levels sp making sure thermostat batteries are good to go. >> cold weather also means bigger heating bills. workers say they helped about 90 families get money to help pay heating bills.

u.s. officials said north korea has begun planning its next missile launch. president trump took to twitter for a warning. he tweeted. meanwhile. south korea is offering to sit down for high level talks with north korea. the last time they met was december 2015. the goal would be finds ways to corporate on the winter olympics. today's offer came a day after north korea leader said he's willing to send a delegation. in delaware county a mother is heartbroken after heifer 18 year-old son is shot and killed. just days before christmas. police are looking for the four suspects. some who look like they could be kids.

some areas could sew significant snow. the heaviest will be east of i 95. south jersey. jersey shore and the far southern portion of delaware. we'll see the heaviest totals at this point. based on the current track of the storm. thursday morning the commute could be messy. even an inch of snow on the groez frozen ground will make for a mess. 20 to 40 miles per hour winds. and we get dangerous cold coming in. again. thursday night into friday. saturday and early on sunday. right now eight in pittsburg. 19 philadelphia. balmy compared to the end of the week. 12 allen town. 15 wilmington. so we bump up a bit today. 24 the official high. in philadelphia. much nicer than the last couple days. tonight eight in allen town. and eleven in trenten. clear skies. you can see we don't have any

weather at all to report. no precipitation. just a few high thin clouds across the region. what we're watching is way down here in the gulf. that's what's happening. very cold air has been pulled very far south. here's how it's all going to unfold. look at the cold air that's streaming in. winter storm warnings. that keeld air will be pulled south into florida. wrapping around this storm system. which is coming out of the bahamas. by the time we get into tomorrow night we have bands of heavy snow from norfolk. approaching southern da and dc. look at this. this is a thin band. if this storm system -- hurricane force winds expected across the open atlantic. if this tracks closer to the shore we get heavy snow.

further to the east we get much less snow. it pulls away the heaviest snow expected in new england. we'll get the arctic brother and sister behind it. hour by hour. we'll be waking up again tomorrow morning in the low teens. 26 tomorrow. here it comes. it starts as rain. that's where it's freezing. that's early thursday morning. just after midnight. with e get all snow just in time for the commute. places like the le high valley might not see anything. it's out by thursday. eight friday morning. into the teens on friday. how much snow? maybe nothing in redding. maybe an inch in le high valley. two to four in parts of south jersey. one to three philadelphia. four to eight along the jersey shore. i'll have the ten day on ten coming up. >> carson wentz defends a social media post about his dog.
