>> tracking snow. it is even snowing in parts of florida. a bitter blast worse than the last one. eagles insider weighs in on everything the team is doing to prepare for its first playoff game. right now get ready for snow. our below freezing temperatures continue. we have issued a first alert that will effect just about all of us. people at the jersey shore are expected to get hit the hardest.

here is a live look where this beach will be covered with snow tomorrow. it is so cold it is even snowing in florida. this is the first time in 28 years snow has fallen in tallahassee. theme parks have closed the water rised. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the most accurate forecast. what is the timing of the storm? >> it looks like it is coming in slower which means the start time is later and the end time will be later. we continue to do it today, tonight and tomorrow. we have to keep up with us on that. we have first alert out for philadelphia, south jersey, jersey shore and also delaware now starting at 11:00 p.m. tonight to 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. the snow, blowing snow.

we'll have 30 to 50 miles per hour gusts at the shore. a slippery morning commute and da dangerous cold will follow that storm. we are already seeing some of the clouds streaming up to the north related to the storm itself and the closer precipitation is off of the carolina coast. this is tremendous moisture and cold. that blue is heavy snow in parts of south carolina. you can see the strong jet stream offshore. this is definitely going to be a huge ocean storm. here is the futurecast hour by hour. the tighter these white lines are, closer together they are the more intense the storm is. it looks like a bomb when you have the lines continuing to close in. as we start the morning rush

tomorrow it is snowing in just about the entire area. it is tracking pretty much offshore. if it was closer we would be getting much more snow. boston might get 2 feet out of this. the general snowfall totals will range from less than 2 inches towards burkes county to up to 6 to 10 up towards the jersey shore. we'll break it down and talk more about that record cold coming after the storm in a few minneapoli minutes. get the shovels and the salt ready. pamela osborne is live. what are people out there telling you? rfrmg >> reporter: well, people are an salutely getting themselves back into winter shape. they are preparing for it.

we stopped by and they tell us the big seller today is salt. there was still plenty of bag available. the cold is easier to deal with if you spend limited amounts of time outside. others are trying to get to work in it. that's when people really start to figure out how they need to dress to stay warm. >> one day i didn't anticipate this and my toes froze. >> what were you wearing on your feet? >> normal shoes, lined ones. i think i was waiting about half an hour. i think it was the day when it was 11 degrees. >> reporter: and she said that's a mistake she is not making again. she is wearing those boots all winter long. she will certainly need them tonight into tomorrow as we are

expecting more snow. nbc 10 news. >> certain lay wake-up call. the cold is being felt up and down the east coast. parts of aniagara falls are frozen this morning. rfrmg >> reporter: after days of cold the entire east coast is preparing for what is being called the first nor'easter of 2018 it is also known as a bomb cyclone. . forecasters warning the effects could resemble a winter hurricane. the water freezing everything it touches. in buffalo wintery conditions caused a pile-up. fire fighters here forced to

this is what it looked like when firefighters got it under control. no one was hurt. investigators will try to fig rur o -- figure out what caused that fire. firefighters were called to a home community just after 4:00 this morning. they found one unit engulfed in flames. several other homes were severely damaged. the town homes are va kacant ano one was hurt. look at this. a car smashed right into a rock door. the driver suffered a minor injury. >> a mom charged with the murder of three family members and a family fraeiend.

the 16-year-old gunned down his parents, sister and a family friend. prosecutors announced that each of the victims was shot several times and at close range. they say the gun used in the killings was registered to a family member. there is no clear motive. a florida eye doctor is being sentenced this morning in another case. he was convicted of stealing $100 million from medicare. he was found guiltyov of submitting false claims. he convinced elderly patients to undergo tests for diseases they did not have. jessica, how are the roads

this morning north korea has opened the doors to communication with south korea. it comes as president trump issued a threat to the young leader. they are in contact through a communication system. it had been closed for nearly

two years. yesterday south korea offered high level talks to find ways to cooperate on next month's winter olympics. it suggested the north might send a delegation to the games. >> new video showed continued unrest in iran. it shows a protest outside a base housing a volunteer force. they threw objects on top of the roof. >> just a short time ago president trump tweeted about that unrest. the president said such respect for the people of iran as they try to take back their corrupt government. you'll see great support at the appropriate time. parents dropped their babies from the second floor. the fire started around 5:00 this morning ripping through the apartment complex.

before they could even put water on the fire firefighters had to start rescuing people. >> we were catching babies like footballs, literally. there were adults that were on the balcony that were dropping their babies into their arms. we had a couple of firefighters catching babies. it was really incredible. >> at least 12 people were taken to the hospital. eight of them were children. today in month ggomery coun friends and family will remember a woman killed. fup ral services are monday in florida. >> investigators are working to determine what caused an

septembcenter of the low pressure scepteptemb. this is just getting into delaware. i wanted to show you how far offshore this track is. normally a track like this we would get thnothing. this his such a large storm that it will be spreading moisture back hundreds and hundreds of miles. the darker blue indicates the heavier snow. it will be going up because it sticks out into the ocean. they will get a blizzard up there. there is no doubt about that. this behind it, it pulls in more of this arctic air. let's go hour by hour and show you the temperatures along with it. this afternoon we are near the freezing mark. as we go through the evening we

start to see the snow come in. it could start off as a mix towards the shore. the temperatures will drop. it will change over to snow very quickly. here we are in the middle of the night. the snow is spreading up through the area. it is effecting the morning rush. temperatures are so low in much of the area that the salt and other procedures don't work as well. remember what happened on saturday even with that rush shower things can get really slippery. the heaviest snow towards the shore. 10:00 a.m. it is starting to taper off a little bit. in the afternoon it will be ending. by friday morning it is 6:00 degrees in philadelphia. it is very wind y. that will be the coldest air of the season.

most of the snow to the east, to the west. let's get a little more specific. because of the wind coming in off of delaware bay we could see high amounts. it could be a little more locally. georgetown also in the 6 to 10 area. so is cape may. all through cape may county and atlantic city. lodge beach ie lapd in the 6 to 10. philadelphia for the most part in the 2 to 4 range. the farther west, farther away from the storm we are talking 1 to 3 inches as well.

now, these numbers could change a little bit. the colors could change a little bit as we go through the afternoon and get more data. the storm is producing snow in the southeast. we have a little bit more to work on. these are the snowfall totals that are expected. right now we have temperatures in the 20s, some teens to the north. look at the feels like temperatures by friday morning. we are talking about 8 to 15 degrees below zero. it stays that way through saturday. next the safest way to clear your driveway so you don't put your health at risk.

we take a live look at the city skyline. first alert will effect just about all of us. this man broke down with a dead battery. more bitter cold is coming after the snow leaves. the south is feeling the cold as well. icy conditions in georgia are making it dangerous for drivers. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is

here with the most accurate forecast, glenn. there yeah. southern georgia does not see snow very often especially accumulating snow. the interstate in north florida, i-10 is closed due to icing. this is a pretty potent storm already. burkes county may see some snow but the least amounts in our area. 11:00 tonight to 2:00 p.m. tomorrow we'll have blowing snow, drifting snow to get a lot of it. it will be windy. it will bring in the most dangerous cold yet. high clouds streaming in from the southwest, way ahead of the storm. you can see the precipitation very clearly. heavy thunderstorms down in florida. this area here, that is snow in georgia, but i also like to keep

an eye on the direction of the high clouds. it gives you an idea of the jet stream, whether it's going that way or that way may determine how much snow we get in our area later on. here is the center of the low right now. the more of those white lines you get the more intense the storm is. it continues up the coast. 7:00 tonight it's not even close to snowing here. don't worry about your dinner time hours. and then in the middle of the night and first thing tomorrow morning for the morning rush sh that's when we are getting nailed. we would get it a lot more if this was closer to the coast. it is so big it is still impacting the area. into the amp fternoon it is dry out. more snow towards the north and less to the west. these are general amounts.

in it. others are trying to get to work in it. this woman said her car broke down a couple of weeks ago when the temperatures took a turn. she has been riding the bus ever since and here is what she has been doing to stay warm. >> i have two pairs of gloves, a warm scarf, a north face sweater under here. it gets pretty cold late at night. i have to go all the way up valley ford. >> reporter: she said she is planning ahead for tomorrow's commute. the snow will impact just about everyone in the region although a little bit differently. nbc 10 news. the city is expecting a lot of snow but the wind could be the

back with doug pederson. the eagles will play their first game on january 13th at 4:35 p.m. you can watch it right here on nbc 10. >> before we get to our storm dave asked for it. yes. the weather will not be nearly as cold for the eagles playoffs game as it has been. more typical january weather. we have got a first alert for snow that's coming. most of the area, lehigh county even though you get some snow you get the least amount. this is from 11:00 p.m. tonight to 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. going to have snow, blowing snow, drifting snow. the winds gusting up to 50 miles

per hour at the shore. the peak will be during the thursday morning commute which will create problems. remember what happened on saturday. just get a couple of inches of snow when the road temperatures are so cold. look what we have here. we have a rapidly developing and rapidly moving storm. that of course might limit some snow amounts. that snow area is moving up the coast and this darker blue near south carolina is heavy snow. the pink is ice. we'll keep app en eye on that a moves up the coast. will it move to the northeast or move right up the coast? that is going to determine how heavy the snow is back here. the track is pretty much offshore. normally we would get little or

no snow out of this. because it is so large it is spinning moisture all the way back. it is close to new epg langlape. it pulls down the oldest air so far. this is a little bit less brutally cold in the 20s to low 30s. not much wind around. that's nice. as we go through the night the snow is just starting to come in. the snow starts getting heavier. by the morning rush it is snowing just about everywhere. look at some of the temperatures. that means it is hard for salt and other chemicals to work at such low temperatures.

the snow will be heavier. there will be more wind. 10:30 it is still snowing in new jersey but tapering off to the west. that is going to limit the snow totals. as we go through the afternoon it is gradually moving out. it is really getting cold. by friday morning we are in the single digits. by saturday morning could be close to zero in the philadelphia area. general picture, 6 to 10 inches. we'll senator some of ttart in heavier areas. may get pretty heavy totals the there. cape may is also in that area.

gallo galloway township are in the 6 to 10 inch range. as we get closer to the philadelphia area this is generally 2 to 4 inches to wilmingt wilmington, delaware as well. this is richland, pots town. this map may have to be adjusted towards the afternoon and tonight. this is such a tricky forecast. a few miles difference in the track could mean several inches difference in the snow that you get. 17 in reading now. most areas are in the 20s. wanted to give you a little bit of information on how cold it is going to feel starting friday morning. we are talking about below zero
