killed in the line of duty. a firefighters gives the ultimate sacrifice this morning in a fire that took the life of another person inside the home. colder air is coming. the coldest air yet will hit us tonight into tomorrow morning. and dr. j hospitalized. new information we received from his management team and how the doctor is doing tonight. right now at 6:00 a double deadly fire. tonight the philadelphia fire department is mourning the loss of a man they are calling a hero, who gave his life doing his job. good evening i'm deneek nakano. that firefighters wasn't the only one who died today. another person was killed in a fire that consumed an entire home in north philadelphia and

hearts are heavy tonight. the fire commissioner expressed his ease motion later this evening. >> today tragically lieutenant matt letourneau of company 45 joined that host of heroes. and our hearts are breaking. >> tonight we have team coverage. increases 10's is finding out more about the man he was, and we're also live at the scene. drew first, tell us about the response. >> reporter: deny the fire department got here in just three minutes, but already this home at the end of colorado street was burning up. first a victim pulled from that home and pronounced dead. then a collapse. two firefighters injured, one of them didn't make it. thick smoke billows from

colorado street as flames spread through a rowhome. >> heavy fire second floor. >> reporter: witnesses watched 100 fire fighters arrive but the person who lived here did not survive. the firefighters who rushed in to help were in danger. >> we have one member unaccounted for. also strike out, we need -- responding also. >> a collapse pinned down lieutenant matt letourneau. trapped beneath debris his fellow responders tried to reach him. >> he was never alone. >> reporter: it would take half an hour. we do have eyes on him. >> reporter: and they got him out. >> he received the best possible care after his removal from our paramedics, the best in the world. >> reporter: at 11:07 this morning, doctors declared him dead at the hospital. >> today is truly a sad day. >> reporter: they soldiered on helping two other hurt firefighters and a neighbor.

andrea, the lieutenant has been a member of that fire defendant since he was a teenager. >> reporter: yes. the flag here at the springfield fire company is at half staff. this is matthew letourneau's home, and where he got his start. though we spoke to say that firefighting was his passion. black bunding hangs outside the fire company. he was a lifetime member here. he became a volunteer firefighters when he was a teenager. his goal was to make this his career. that's why he joined the fire department, but also served as an instructor around the area. so many people are expressing their condolences, saying he was a great friend taught them a lot, and just saying how he will be very missed. he led people and today he led the group of firefighters, trying to save someone's life.

tonight a university of pennsylvania student is missing. his parents in california fear the worst. 19-year-old blaze bernstein is a pre-med student. he was back home on winter break. he left without his wallet and glasses. hits parents say they hacked his computer and found some clues. he met a friend in a california parks, a few texts, and then disappeared. police are not say if a crime was committed. friends of a local soldier killed in the line of duty raised money in his honor. he died serving in afghanistan back in 2015. the 30-year-old graduated from shelton high school. today friends met at a bar to raise money for the nonprofit heroes rock. the organization makes wooden rockers for children of the fallen. >> hero rocks, they came to our house and paid tribute to our

daughters, gave them two rockers, and build rockers for fisher houses for guys that come back from deployment that are injured. these are just a few examples of the hard work that they put into these rockers they built. three families in delaware county and one in newcastle of warmer tonight the owner donated and installed new heating systems in each family's home. each year the program identified four families in need and she was thrilled to learn she was selected. >> when i found out i'm getting a heater my gosh i just lost it. i totally lost it. i'm very grateful. >> we're happy to help. we're happy to help. >> thank you. >> heartwarming. since the program started, the company has donated more than 60 heating systems to families
