battle of the birds. eagles head coach spoke about saturday's much anticipated match up. conditions are improving today. here is a live look. certainly warmer temperatures are helping to melt the ice this morning. it was a slippery trek to school for these kids.

the sidewalks were siicey but t kids made it to class safely. >> this will be the warmest day of 2018. that is good news for people dealing with all of that snow. here is a live look at cape may there. certainly not a good day to walk on the beach. we are seeing some of that ice beginning to melt. good morning. i'm dray clark. many of us woke up to slipperys. full-ti finally we are seeing warmer temperatures. full-ti finally. >> yeah. and not just warmer and not just seeing some of the snow melt, we are seeing the fog that was so thick this morning, it is gone.

temperatures are warming up. a lot of snow will be melting today and over the coming days. the seven day forecast is scrolling at the bottom of the screen. it shows a warm up each day this week right on through the end of the workweek. clouds, not many left. scattered clouds moving through. you see some snow. we'll see sunshine. the temperatures have already made csignificant progress. new jersey at 39. it is 40 degrees in delaware. sunshine we'll be warming into the 40s this afternoon. even warmer weather is to come. i'll have a look at that and how you can expect the week to go

conditions. having four legs didn't make it any easier. mary was holding on as she salted her sidewalks for people and school kids that didn't get the day off. >> it is a horrendous for people that have to travel to work and school. it is very dangerous. >> she is hoping her ice melt will do the trick. they expected ice but not this much of it. >> you can want see anything. it is thick. >> reporter: in the end that northern spirit kicked in. they found creative ways to walk. >> i was walking like a penguin pretty much. >> reporter: or hopped into their cars and got on with it. we have seen a lot of melting going on. these bikes were all covered in

we were seeing delays and a little bit of that over on the right hand side. it looks pretty normal for now. if you're on the blue route watch for construction near saint david. now, if you're in new jersey and maybe on route 70 it is the westbound side. there is construction up ahead. it is causing cars to merge together. it will be moving further into cherry hill and towards the philadelphia area. also watching the bridges ben franklin is construction on the eastbound side. there was an earlier opening. it should be back down for now. all of that traffic should be gone. >> all right. thank you. >> families shivering all

because they lost their apartment heat during the cold snap recently. a number of homes have gone without heat and hot water since friday. we found them using stove or ovens. fire officials say it is a very dangerous practice that can lead to house fires. management said broken underground pipes caused a heating problem. one woman was dealing with a flooded apartment. a mother of four has to deep her oven open and set at 350 degrees. >> we have no other choice but to monitor the house and your children to make sure they are safe and it is warm.

funeral arrangements are complete for the philadelphia fire fighter killed. the funeral will be on friday morning. yesterday would have marked his 11th anniversary with the department. people who knew the 42-year-old said his passion was teaching people about fire safety and prevention. >> he was very much in love with his job as a fireman. >> he was loving. he was caring. he would give you the shirt off of his back. >> the home owner who also died has not been officially identified. the cause of the fire remains ur under investigation. christie will deliver his fin final state of the state address. he will turn other the governor's office next week.

wind that brought in some of that fog this morning. they have shifted to a west northwesterly wind. that is a cooler air that's coming in. we have got a lot of sunshine. temperatures have rawarmed up nicely. we'll not see much more of a warm up throughout the day. delaware 40 dlegrees right now. the suburbs in the lehigh valley. philadelphia at 37 degrees. there are some warmer neighborhoods in south jersey. lumberton at 40 degrees. it will go up another degree or two with that wind blowing. we are not going to go much warmer than that. philadelphia low 40s for chestnut hill. upper 30s for the suburbs. allentown up to 42 today. sunshine will be nice and bright

today through new jersey. some points are already in the lower 40s. it could go a little bit higher. 42 degrees this afternoon. cape may is in the 30s. it will feel chilly with that wind blowing too. sunshine is helping that out. radar and satellite are completely in the clear. with wind blowing tonight it will bring in colder air tonight. we will see temperatures go lower tonight than they were first thing this morning. no wet weather until we get to more likely friday into saturday. it will come in from the west and team up with moisture from the south and give us wet weather to wash away a lot of the grime that's on the ground. the next round is only going to be rain. we'll see some rain thursday

well, bring on the fog. temperatures are warming up. it is femelting away the ice. here is a live look in center city, philadelphia. you can still see a lot of that snow there on the ground. then there's the ice. skape scrapers were getting a lot of work. it is certainly making for a

messy morning. school kids had to step very slowly and very carefully. take a look at the delaware river this morning. it is full of chunks of ice. maybe some of it will melt as our mercury starts to go up today. bill is here with your most accurate forecast in town. >> it won't melt all at once but it will make progress starting today. the thin layer will be first to disappear. the ice on the delaware and the big mounds of snow left over is going to take more time. you can see this bright view. it is going to make a pretty good dent on the ground today. what has happened is the wind has been picking up. the forecast for the afternoon winds is for the steady

northwesterly wind to continue. it will start to bring temperatures down. they have been warming up nicely so far with all of that bright sunshine. we'll start to see them coming down after peaking in the low 40s late this morning and early this afternoon. by 10:00 tonight we are down back below freezing in the 20s. it goes lower than that by 2:00 in the morning. it will be a colder night tonight but it will be dry until we get to the end of the week. that's when the next roupd ndo wet weather will be coming in. we'll have a look at that and how much rainfall you can expect in just a few minutes. >> thank you. the temperatures warm up and the sun stays out. today started out quite slippery in some places. pamela osborne is live this morning. i know it's still cold outside. at least it looks bearable

today. >> reporter: yeah. it is a little bit bearable talking temperature wise. if you take a look at this side of the street it is completely iced over. ice still casing this car in. tuesday morning started off with a scrape, a crunch and a slide. >> the sidewalks are pretty bad. >> reporter: he had to go to work and a kid to talk to school. the ice is worse than he thought. >> you can't see anything. it is thick. people found walking on the snow

was a lot safer than walking on ice covered surfaces. >> it is very scary. it is like a sheet of glass. >> she tried to get to work the usual way. it wuasn't long before she ditched her car and called an uber instead. >> it is very dangerous. >> she did what any good neighbor would do. she salted where she could to make travels to and from just a little easier. >> hopefully it will do the trick. >> reporter: and hopefully it will. you're taking a live look. you can see a lot of slush. a lot of snow on the roadway. the areas that respearen't coven snow they are covered in ice. this area is pretty slick. if you're heading out at this point in the day and think hey, it's 37 degrees, things will be

easy to navigate, just keep in mind that in some of the shaded places it's not melting as quickly. nbc 10 news. >> all right. thank you. could wa count on us for weather updates any time. >> we are getting a better look at the travel mess at jfk airport other the weekend. a water pipe broke and flooded the water terminal. take a look. brown water began pouring from the ceiling above this desk on sunday. the ceiling collapsed and brown water gushed out into the terminal. a worker had been sitting there moments before the collapse happened. the water flooded the baggage claim area as well. passengers say they still haven't received information about when they will get their luggage back.

happening now, president donald trump meeting with lawmakers about immigration. bipartisan members are at the white house to discuss the next steps towards passing immigration reform policy. the trump administration made it very clear including securing the mexican border wall which according to some lawmakers will cost the country $18 billion to build. >> also happening now, the senate finance committee is hosting. he was president of the u.s. division. he also served in the department during george w. bush's administration. >> happening right now the senate committee holding a hearing on the opioid help demidemi -- epidemic.

>> look at this sunshine. this is 8th and market. it is having an impact on the temperatures. 37 is at the airport. a few mayneighborhoods are alre in the 40s. northeast philadelphia is also 43 degrees. reading is at 41. they are up 23 degrees so far today. the sun is still shining. the shore, 39 in seattle city. it is in the 40s in atlantic city. cape may reporting 41 degrees. we are seeing a little bit of winds. it is not the full effect into the 40s. it is 30s in allentown.
