bernstein was found in a park outside of los angeles. went missing during winter break. went to the park with a friend while walked in alone while friend waited in the car. but bernstein didn't come back. during an emotional press conference, he broke into tears while he talked about his son. >> he was a charismatic man that shined lives in communities he touched. needless tsay our family is devastated by the news. >> police still haven't said how bernstein died but an autopsy is scheduled for today. blaze's father says he was planning on studying psychology at penn and then later medicine. live at the breaking news center nbc 10 news. fever, cough, running noses, if you don't have it, flu is coming that's spreading across our area and only worse.

>> a spet smart grant is helping fund the initiative p. out west tonight right now rescue workers are racing against the clock searching for about two dozen people still missing in these mudslides. 15 people have died in southern california and about 100 homes were destroyed. many ripped from their foundations. officials say they new the mudslides were a possibility but many of the 7,000 people asked to evacuate refused to leave. lester holt will have much more on the deadly mudslides on nbc nightly news right after this newscast. nbc 10 is your official station of the philadelphia eagles and in three days they will face off against the falcons first playoff game in four years. if you want to be at the game tickets will not be cheap. playoff tickets sold out in one minute. and if you want tickets now, you'll have to head to places like stub hub where standing room tickets are going for $159.

killing of a radio host is expected in court tomorrow. twisted tale that involves drugs and murder. tonight learningut the man conspiring with popular doctor to murder his wife. jersey shore ted greenberg has the details all new at 6:00. playing in a local band, ferdinand hardly stayed in the shadows. but prosecutors have painted a dark picture of the 61-year-old. he's charged with murder along with dr. james kaufman in the 2012 killing of kaufman's wife april. >> this is oj symptimpson all o again. >> alleged murder for hire plot and leaders of large illegal opioid distribution ring through the doctors practice.

authorities say april kaufman threatened to divorce her husband and expose the drug operation. now deceased gunman found who did the killing. retired new jersey superior court judge. >> this is a big, big situation that goes way beyond the unfortunate murder of miss kaufman to find out it's part of a larger alleged drug ring was a little bit surprising to me. >> drop the gun. >> kaufman has been jailed on weapons and obstruction charges since he allegedly showed a gun when authorities showed up. they say he is past president of the chapter of the pagans, he also owned a guitar building and repair company. no one answered the door at his upper township home today. we don't know if he has an

attorney. six others arrested yesterday and kaufman are also charged with rack a tiering t accused of having dr. kaufman murdered as well. kaufman has denied any involvement in his murder they say kaufman was moved to a different facility but unclear where. i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. to this warning now, stay off frozen lakes and rivers. that message tonight from philadelphia police marine unit. today crews practiced pulling each other out of the freezing water to prepare for people falling through the ice. as our cameras were rolling we heard the crack as starting to melt to be more dangerous to be out there. l. well, the road to victory runs through philadelphia for

feeling like 20s. and maybe by the time you get home it's feeling like in the teens. so don't dress for the morning. dress for what it's going to be later. because we see some big changes around here. remember on sunday, it was 4 degrees. and i'm predicting 65 for friday afternoon. less than a week. 61 degree difference. rain, thunderstorms to pay for that. today's high, into the 40s. that number is obviously not right. and right now we are sing temperatures dropping very little. still 40 in philadelphia. 39 in wilmington. we have clouds in here. but the atmosphere is also warming up. so we will not see them drop very much. 38 in greenville. 38 in odessa. father to the sou farther in the south.

louis at 36 degrees. clouds coming in from the west. way ahead of any kind of precipitation. so we don't have any real threat of rain tonight or during the day tomorrow. a lot of clouds. temperature 53. fairmont 51. so it's a little warmer than today. but not as warm as it will be on friday. and you see dry conditions throughout the area except for southern delaware. then we get the more serious rain. that's where the first alert comes in. entire area. and 4:00 friday to 10:00 a.m. on saturday. and we are talking about heavy rain. we have snow cover in parts of the area. we have ice in parts of the area. and all of that just makes any kind of flooding worse. so here's the timing. thursday night it comes in, it's raining friday morning, it's raining friday afternoon, but really warm, remember it's in the 60s. there is friday night. look at that, winter is coming
