an hour's long stand off has ended but not without a big impactov of parents and childre in the communitcommunity. >> crews are trying to save lives from mother nature's fury. we have the inside scoop of the birds match-up across the pond. the breaking news, a peaceful end to a standoff that lasted more than 12 hours. the suspect is in custody after

he fired shots at officers and barricade himself inside a house. good morning. i'm rosemary conners. we begin with randy who is live now. >> reporter: as you mentioned, that suspect is in custody. he is injured but alive. this standoff ends without a single shot. cameras spotted s.w.a.t. teamed inside the brittany woods neighborhood. neighbors there sheltering in place. the male suspect was hold up in the house firing shots off at police. at one point he struck an

armored vehicle with bullets. there were officers inside but none of them were injured. the suspect ended up some how hurting himself. that is when police moved in and took him into custody. >> i will tell you that his injuries were in the caused by law enforcement action. we recovered a female from the residence and we have an investigation to conduct and interview her and gather more details. no shots were fired by police. >> reporter: again, police saying they fired zero shots. all of the people within that neighborhood can safely leave their homes. nbc 10 news. >> team coverage continues now with pamela osborne who has been

talking to neighbors. quite a day for them. >> reporter: relief for residents who are able to leave their homes or comfortably sit inside after knowing the situation is resolved. we are giving you a closer look at where it all happened. you can see the door missing out of the front. that is where it all took place. for the first time neighbors are able to leave their homes or return to them. we speak to a woman that lives just up the scene. it has been 12 plus hours for her and her children. she had them down on the floor after alerting the danger to police. she said now that it's over she is finally able to start the day.

>> i was standing by the door. the cop was like you need to go inside. i heard about 11 shots. i have to work a 16 hour shift tonight. i have to get to that. it's been a rough night. >> reporter: residents feeling good about the fact that the situation has been resolved. no police officers were hurt. nbc 10 news. >> it will be a difficult day ahead. crews worked to gain the upper hand. flames and smoke began to pour from the roof around midnight.

the owner took over the business last may and tells us his family is devastated. >> i don't know what to welcome here. i'll be honest. my mother is disabled. my father has heart problems and they are with me every day. it was our bread and butter. >> there is no official cause of the fire. the owner believes it started in the kitchen. the thaw is on. get ready for the rain. plenty of it is heading our way. steve is tracking the highs and lows in the first alert neighborhood forecast. >> yeah. the weather certainly not

it is 42 in allentown. radar is quiet for now. no rain today. this is the same system that brought flooding and torrential rains. temperatures very comfortable. i'm tracking a significant storm for next week. we'll have the details coming up in just a bit. >> thanks for that. dozens of people on social media are praising emergency crews in south jersey for helping to rescue a dog that fell through an icey pond. they posted this video on facebook. yesterday firefighters and a cold water rescue unit pulled the german shepherd to safety. in the wake of this video departments across our area are reminding people and their pets the stay off of roads, lakes and rivers the ice begins to melt.

this just in. the birds are flying across the pond. the eagles will take on the jaguars in london next season either on october 21st or on october 28th. we are just two days away from the eagles big playoff game against the falcons. doug peterson talked about how the fans help when the team play at home. >> we want teams to come in and feel our fans and feel our noise and to feel everything about philadelphia. >> and the intimidation, our fans represent. nick has had a strong wick of practice. foles admitted the past two games were a bit shakey. he said he is confident in leading his team through the

eight people are still missing after the mud slides in california. the death toll stands at 17. rescue workers are teaming to to look for loved ones. >> this shows the force and speed of deadly flood waters tearing through monday night. a wall of water so powerful it mangled cars, tossing some into the near by pacific ocean. >> all around the house was roaring rapids. we saw my mom's car get lifted up and floated down. >> it is a massive operation we have underway. >> he was looking for his mother, josie. >> i don't know how anyone could survive this. >> her family says they are devastated. alex is searching for four family members including his sister and her son. >> what kind of mom was she?

snow next week. we have issued this first alert through 10:00 a.m. on saturday. the reason why periods of heavier rain, thunderstorms here and with frozen ground even though we are thawing it out it won't be able to digest all of that water. we may be looking at ice jams and clogged drains. tomorrow into saturday looking messy. a gray sky here in philadelphia. temperatures are rising. 47 right now in philadelphia. live radar is quiet. the reason i show you this, it is huge. it extends down to the gulf coast. it is huge in size.

once it arrives it will take time to get it out of here. we have several impacts of the storm. the rising temperatures ov overnight don't, we'll see periods of rain. this is 3:00 tomorrow afternoon when kids are getting out of school. holiday weekend begins tomorrow. if you're traveling in and out of philadelphia international expect delays there. we'll continue with warm air into friday night and a big clang underway for saturday. with more on that i turn it over the britney shipp. >> brutal conditions heading into the weekend. it is unfortunate timing for us. if we look at this heading into the week by 11:00 on friday it is 63 degrees.

as we go through the night and through the day on saturday will see our temperatures continue to drop. we'll get all the way down to 23 degrees on saturday at 11:00 p.m. that is a 40 degree drop within about 24 hours. we'll see windy conditions. it is as a lot of people are making plans to tailgate. let's walk you through your weekend. by 4:00 a.m. on saturday our feels like temperatures and our chilly temperatures we start off really nice early saturday morning in the 60s. quickly you see the cold air move through. by 7:30 we are still in the 50s. this is stretching down into cape may. as the day goes on by 2:30 on saturday we are talking temperatures here and parts of philly at 27 degrees. we'll see temperatures in the teens. coming up we'll talk more about what's in store in your ten day

>> we are having a bit of trouble with pamela's microphone. we'll get more later in the newscast. now to other news. five of the eight suspects accused in a murder case will be in court today. among those expected to appear is dr. james kauffman. they say he conspired to murder april kauffman in april of 2012. he denies any involvement in his wife's murder. they he is connected to a motorcycle gang. prosecutors say april kauffman was planning to report it to

authorities. it involves a university of pennsylvania student that went missing while he was home on winter break. we have more on the new developments. >> we started looking for our son and asking for everyone to help us. we have just learned that the sheriffs department and coroner's office determined -- >> he was home from the university of pennsylvania. the 19-year-old pre-med sophomore was last seen more than a week ago. on tuesday his body was found near a park. authorities, family and friends spent days looking for the missing teen. cast members posted on social media in an effort to help in the hunt to find him. >> we are hoping for better

results. investigators did find the body in the area. it is obviously not the outcome we were hoping for. >> he was last seen nine days ago entering the park late at night. he was driven there and supposed to meet up with a third person. he went into the park and never returned. he was reported missing the next day. >> at this point we believe he was in the park. i believe he but probably killed that night. >> they released a statement that read in part i came to know blaze and i grieve his passing. >> blaze was a brilliant and car asthmatic m -- man. we ask for your continued support in providing tips to the sheriffs department. >> reporter: friends coming together to remember a young

life that ended far too soon. >> we have never had anything like this happen in our kpl community. it breaks my heart. >> that was joe fryer reporting. let's check in with pamela osborne. she has an update on the standoff that ended a short time ago, pam. >> reporter: yeah. the standoff has ended. the investigation is really just beginning. let me show you where all of this happened. take a look at this. this is brand new video. a neighbor took this. it is the moment tactical teams made entry. police are not releasing any names at this point but they took an injured male into custody. they say he was injured but not by them. police didn't fire a single shot during that standoff.

police attempted to negotiate. schools were cancelled as a precaution. in a short amount of time we are supposed to be seeing a tactical vehicle. police didn't fire any shots but the suspect fired several shots at one of their vehicles. the bullet holes did not penetrate through. sidney will be working on that later today. the suspect will be facing charges. they are in the process of doing interviews. there was a woman inside of the house. i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. a big thaw is underway. this is a live look. a hazy look so to speak.

temperatures are slowly but surely on the rise. rain is heading our way. steve is tracking the timing for your neighborhood, steve. >> yeah. this is definitely one of those days we like to cover here as the neighborhood weather station because we are seeing huge differences from place to place. this is the lehigh valley right now. in allentown it is cloudy. temperatures in the low to mid-40s there. here is cape may new jersey. there is fog here. also notice the brightening of the sky. the cloud cover starting to erode there. look what's happening across delaware. it's a nice sunny day. you have a 20 degree difference at this very moment. we take you into burkes county. sunshine starting to erode here. temperatures in the upper 40s. we move over and temperatures are still in the lower 40s.

so even in our northern suburbs it varies from place to place depending whether you seen the sunshine or not. look at temperatures popping into the 50s for dover. millville at 50. 52 in coatsville. we may break out into sunshine. we have issued the first alert for the entire area from 4:00 p.m. tomorrow through 10:00 p.m. on saturday. we are looking for a heavy dose of rain. it is coming on top of frozen ground and frozen rivers. i'll walk you through the rain totals and brittaney will walk u through another chance of snow. a public viewing will happen from 4:30 until 9:00 this

on it. heavy rain tomorrow, tomorrow night. we may be dealing with a lot of runoff and potentially some flooding. it comes in here tonight. it starts off relatively gentle with drizzle, fog, showers. you want to have the umbrella with you. very murky. tomorrow is rounds of rain. it won't be raining the entire day but we'll have batches of rain come through. when it rains it can pour tomorrow. this afternoon 60 degree temperatures taall the way into southern delaware. 1 to 2 inches of rain. wind gusts up and all of this will come to an end on saturday. we'll have a drop in
