jim rosenfield. >> i'm jacqueline london. once we dry out there will be a shock to the system. all these cameras tell the story. don't let this warm and wet weather fool you. the rain is setting us up for a drastic drop. we're going from record breaking warmth to temperatures that will feel like it's below freezing by this time tomorrow. just in time for kickoff at the link. >> our first alert weather team has the most accurate forecast. meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the drastic drop in temperatures. let's begin with tammie souza with more on what we can expect with this rain moving through our area. >> we're going to see periods of rain that could be heavy at times. we have some flood advisories out because you probably noticed on the roadways there's a lot of ponding. some of this rain coming is down at a pretty good clip.

this is what you can expect. this is what we'll be looking at. we'll see the heavy rain tonight. glenn will cover the arctic blast tomorrow and later next week. we're going to be looking at snow once again. we'll do a full circle to where we were days ago. the heaviest rain at this time has moved out across the atlantic. it's off shore of the jersey shore. we're looking at a band that's making its way through the lehigh valley. this will provide steady brief showers as it moves eastward. you can expect to see a shower. yoil g you'll get a break this evening. you can see we're getting one break now. this little line will affect mainly berks county and the lehigh valley. then we get another break. then steadier rain will develop later tonight. behind that you can see the wintry precipitation moving in, even a little bit of snow that's

coming across parts of the ohio valley. let's go ahead and walk through tomorrow. we'll get the break, you can see the showers let up a bit. we actually see a little bit of a break even through 11:00 tonight. then we see heavier rain moving in before 2:30 in the morning. that's when we see a wintry mix making its way also into the lehigh valley. we could see a little bit of icing on the roads, perhaps, early tomorrow morning as those temperatures start to plummet. that's the second part of our big weather story is those temperatures. glenn's got that. >> tammie, it's amazing. we have cold fronts come through all the time. but we don't see the kind of temperature drops we're about to see. right now, we have temperatures in the 60s across most of the area. allentown set a record even earlier today. it's 65 there. 67 in northeast philly. a little cooler at the jersey shore with the wind coming in off that very cold ocean. over the next 12 hours, we really don't see much of a

change until, look at this, between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. we're near 60 all night tonight. not going to need any coat tonight. then 44 at 6:00 a.m. and continuing to go down. we have temperatures near 30, dropping into the 20s as we go through the late afternoon when the eagles are playing. as far as the feels like, we're again in the 60s tonight. but look at the sharp drop. 5:00 a.m., 63 in voorhees, 58 philly. 29 in potts down. and that cold air sweeps across in a couple of hours. by 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., we're already in the icebox here in the philadelphia area and further to the east it's only an hour later. look at noontime, feeling like

heaviness of the moment. >> he tried to save somebody but he died. >> reporter: saturday, he answered the call. he ran into a burning home trying to save a life. >> matt did not go home saturday. for his family and friends, there is no solace and there are no words. there is only the knowledge that matt every day of his life, was truly a hero. >> reporter: but in this instance, many don't only salute in solidarity, they know him personally. he became a firefighters in his teens and made his rounds as an instructor at various fire academies. >> he lived, eat, slept, and breathed this job. >> reporter: and died doing what he absolutely loved. still, it's hard to find solace on such a somber day. but maybe pride in knowing he made a difference.

playoff tickets to tomorrow's game at the link, plus an autographed carson wentz jersey. there will be a special $5 game day menu. nbc 10's britney schiff will give us a preview coming up. a worker is recovering after he got trapped between walls on the 40th floor of a building under construction in center city. that high rise is at 15th and chestnut. firefighters got the call after midnight and were able to rescue him. we're told he has minor injuries. the me too movement has made its way to both chambers of the delaware legislature. it's a response to the wave of claims against prominent figures across the country. both sides want to set up a system to process any claims. delaware is the only state that has no written sexual harassment policy for legislators. federal lawmakers from both parties in new jersey are asking to keep internet gambling later.

it urged the department not to rescind its opinion from 2011. internet gambling is a thriving industry in new jersey. other members of congress asked the department to give congress the power to make the decision. turning back to our first alert weather and the warm and wet conditions across our area. we're taking a live down broad street. spring-like weather is going to be short and sweet. nbc 10's miguel martinez valles has been out for us. >> no umbrella now, so it's stopped? >> reporter: it was more rain than shine, but people are enjoying this brief pause in the rain while they can. you can see some people walking around without umbrellas. i say why they can because the last two weeks we've been having crazy changes in weather. >> mother nature can't decide what she wants to do with the

weather. just roll with the punches. >> reporter: rolling with the perch punches, 2018 has been a roller coaster in the weather department. >> it's all over the place. you don't know what to expect. last week was 10, now it's 65. feels like a hurricane. i don't know. >> reporter: thursday of last week we were talking about the nor'easter snowstorm. followed by the deep freeze over the weekend and tuesday's big thaw. >> the last few days they've been having to drive around in all this slush. >> reporter: fast forward three days later the salt and slush is a thing of a past. >> it's been topsy turvy. we never know what we're going to get the next day. >> reporter: the changes don't stop there. this weekend we're expecting a sharp drop. back to winter temperatures. >> i'm usually just checking the weather apps every single night to make sure i'm dressed properly for the next day. >> reporter: of course she was talking about our nbc 10 app. you can keep up with all this

ever changing weather by downloading it at the app store. i'm in center city, nbc 10 news. all right. that's great way to put it into perspective, miguel. thank you for that. really, a soaking rain out there today. >> oh, yeah. >> non-stop for a long period of time. >> i was out in it with the dog and we came home very drenched. but i had my umbrella. the dog didn't have a coat because he doesn't wear one. this is what we've been expecting. >> it's a natural coat. >> what was great was that it was mild. >> so mild. 65 degrees, glenn. >> it's actually going to be close to that at midnight tonight, too. if you want to go walk the dog at 11:00 at night you won't need a coat then either. you will need an umbrella. you can see the tops of the buildings are cut off by the low clouds, but at least you can see. the wind is still blowing the same direction. as long as those flags are going that way, warm air is coming in.

tomorrow the flags will be the opposite. the cold air coming in. the first alert we have for the entire area, all the way through the day on saturday for the combination of this heavy rain, localized flooding and then the temperatures crashing. once again, we rarely see them crash this far, this fast in this part of the country. now, we have a break, and now the next batch of rain is starting to come in from berks county down into maryland. and storm ranger 10 is close to that rain in berks county. it's a little bit heavier over potts town. not nearly as heavy as what we saw earlier, the early batch of rain. but storm ranger 10 will keep an eye on this. we have a little bit heavier just east of douglas right now. and there's plenty more to come. you can see some of this heavy

rain to the south in virginia. we see heavy showers or storms. look at all the moisture. this thing still has to get through here before we can dry out. we will dry out in time for the eagles game, even early in the morning. these are the highs so far. the record high in allentown, record high in mount pocono. now, we're still close to those numbers, a little cooler at the jersey shore with the wind coming in off the ocean. so this evening, the next batch of heavy rain comes up. dinnertime, starts to taper off toward the middle of the night and then here comes the cold air. once the cold air comes in, precipitation is over with and we're dry here for at least a couple of days. but we have other changes coming. now, for the eagles, the cold air is coming in in the morning,

so even at 1:00 it's going to be cold. by kick off time 29 degrees with the wind gusting to 25. fourth quarter 25. so at kickoff, the feels like is about 15 and dropping to 9 by the end of the game. now, monday we're dry but here comes a clipper system from the west. could bring a little bit of snow on tuesday. then some of the models shows a little bit more development as we go into wednesday. so the temperature is plummeting tomorrow down into the 20s. then we're pretty cold all the way through next thursday with some of that snow tuesday and wednesday. all right. well, the eagle has literally landed in philadelphia. >> yeah, we're not just talking about our favorite football team. still ahead, meet the bird leading our birds on the road to victory tomorrow at the link.

nbc 10 first alert weather is tracking a messy friday night. you can see we're getting a break now from the heaviest rain. but this system is far from over. keep those wipers ready if you're headed out tonight. taking a live look at i-95 in wilmington on the left and the schuylkill expressway jam packed on the right. that rain is setting us up for a huge temperature drop. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz will have more on that in just a moment, but let's continue with tammie souza. >> an inch or so of rain has fallen and we could see another inch before it's done. there is a lot of ponding on the roadways. we have flood advisories in

effect because of that. the low lying areas, the notorious areas they will be full of water. watch out if you're out and about. look at the sight you see, the very cold river water with the warm air above it and we get this halloween fog boiling up through the area. rain will continue through tomorrow morning. we get the arctic blast, glenn will tell you about that in a moment. to add insult to injury, more snow next week and it could be snow we have to shovel. the heaviest rain is just offshore of the jersey shore. but we're watching this band that's making its way through the lehigh valley and berks county. let's go to our storm ranger truck which is in collegeville. you can see it's picking up those bands between allentown and reading and potts town. this goes right out to the neighborhoods and takes a look up into the storm. so this is a really close up look. we can see what's going on. let's go ahead and go closer. this is with doppler radar.

we do have that heaviest rain here between reading and allentown and potts town. let's slide further south. we have lighter showers in chester county. we go down into delaware where we're looking at shower activity. all of this is going to continue periodically throughout the night. we'll get a few breaks, but don't be deceived the rain will be coming down about 2:00, 3:00 in the morning before it comes to an end. once it comes to an end, so do the warm temperaturesment gle. >> the weather whiplash is appropriate. remember last weekend, how fr l frigid it was? last saturday it felt like it was 3 below. today, it was 63. tomorrow, 29 feeling like 19. tremendous drop.

but it's not going to be as frigid as last weekend. maybe our bodies are getting a little more adjusted. it's 67 in northeast philly right now. 65 in trenton. record 65 in allentown. it's going to be warm just about all night. daybreak, that's when the temperatures start going down and it's going down from 60s to 30s like that. then we level off a little bit. look at the feels like temperatures, in the teens pretty much for the rest of the day. feels like 60s all night tonight until like that, here we go, 5:30 in the morning it's dropped to 25 in potts town and races to the shore. that cold air is just racing in here. tomorrow it's going to be a dramatically different day. it's like you're getting in a plane and flying to canada. >> all right, glenn.

on saturday. this is the combination. this is heavy rain. we've seen localized flooding already. we've got new batches coming in to cause more localized flooding. and then crashing temperatures tomorrow could potentially create icing in some of the northern and western suburbs. right now there's rain moving in north and west of philadelphia. philly is about to get hit. delaware. and we sent storm ranger 10 out into it. starting to see that next batch of rain coming in, filling up even more so and showing you some of the heavier rain. this has taperer off a little bit going up toward amity gardens. further to the south heavy rain headed to coatesville in chester county. we can see all of those details. we can see more and more heavy rain coming up from virginia.

we have a line of heavy rain or storms back to the west. you can tell it's cold air back there, because it's snowing in ohio. everything has to come through before we can clear out. hour by hour, watch the increase. it gets heavier as we head toward the dinnertime hour. later this evening, moves up to the north, tapers off a little bit. we get a bit of a break and then here comes more. this is after midnight. it's going to be a wet night. look what happens when you're getting up. 7:00, 8:00, virtually nothing left on the radar. that's what we're looking for. today's highs, record 65 in allentown. 64 in philly. so far we're not dropping very much and we're not going to drop much over the next 12 hours. we're near 60 until 5:00 a.m. that is when we start that drop.

of challenger, the world's most famous bald eagle. >> reporter: soaring through the stadium, challenger the american bald eagle is in familiar territory in philadelphia. a game day attraction to wow the crowds that will fly high in the playoffs. before saturday's battle of the birds, challenger stopped by the nbc 10 studios with his handlers. a father and daughter team from the non-profit american eagle foundation, which entertains and educates. >> reporter: what's the connection like when you're standing on the 15 yard line and you're making for challenger to make his pass toward you. you've got fans cheering, what's it like? >> it gets your heart pumping a little bit. just the fact you see this symbolic animal flying through the air. it makes me tear up sometimes. >> reporter: 28-year-old challenger knows what the birds are up against. falcons are fast. their speed can't be matched when diving for prey. the falcons may be the fastest

the rain then a major drop in temperatures. >> live radar shows us what's moving across the region right now. keep those umbrellas handy. rain pounded the city all day long. later tonight there will be much of the same. this weather whiplash is also hitting the jersey shore. this is a live look at a foggy socked in cape may. >> it's a slick evening commute as we check on the roads in delaware. a wet i-95 in wilmington. the rain is moving back into the area after a soaker of a friday. we have coverage of the rain and the soon to be falling temperatures. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the cold on the way, but first chief meteorologist tammie souza has an update on the rain. >> it'so be falling in all of our areas a little bit later on tonight. right now we have bands that are coming in. it's been heavy, an inch or so across much of the area. some places slightly more than that if you're under these bright colors of orange, yellow and red.
