the rain then a major drop in temperatures. >> live radar shows us what's moving across the region right now. keep those umbrellas handy. rain pounded the city all day long. later tonight there will be much of the same. this weather whiplash is also hitting the jersey shore. this is a live look at a foggy socked in cape may. >> it's a slick evening commute as we check on the roads in delaware. a wet i-95 in wilmington. the rain is moving back into the area after a soaker of a friday. we have coverage of the rain and the soon to be falling temperatures. >> glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the cold on the way, but first chief meteorologist tammie souza has an update on the rain. >> it'so be falling in all of our areas a little bit later on tonight. right now we have bands that are coming in. it's been heavy, an inch or so across much of the area. some places slightly more than that if you're under these bright colors of orange, yellow and red.

a heavy band has moved into the atlantic. that came through earlier. we have a little bit of a break for philadelphia, south jersey and parts of delaware. but we have this next band that is stretching from berks county, chester county and northern portions of delaware. this is our doppler on wheels, this can be placed wherever we see the biggest threat or heaviest rain. we've put this near limerick and potts down and collegeville, you can see these shades of yellow. that's where we're watching these heavier pockets come through. we're watching for any isolated thunderstorms. that is a close up look. this is a broader picture. it's smoothed out. this doppler radar shows the exact same thing. you can see it stretching past limerick and potts down. reading, you're getting a little bit of a break. allentown, you have a steady shower. further south and you're looking at west chester under steady rain. wilmington, steady rain in your

neighborhood. let's go on down into parts of delaware. middletown, not so much. but we are going to see this dropping through smyrna and then heading off toward south jersey. so the big picture is that we have a lot more headed our way. you can see well off to the west. there's heavy snow across the ohio valley. a little bit of freezing rain in between that and the rain that has to come through our area. we'll time this out for you in a few minutes. it's the snow and freezing rain that's most outstanding to see and that's because of the temperature drop. we're going to see that temperature drop early tomorrow morning. glenn, break that down for us. >> yeah, tammie. it's hard to believe one day to the next is going to be such a dramatic change. we look back to last saturday, remember how frigid it was. at noon, 14 degrees. it felt like 3 below zero. here's tomorrow. 29 at noon, feeling like 19. yeah, cold.

but not as frigid as last saturday. in between, here we are with temperatures in the 60s and feels like temperatures in the 60s. what a roller coaster. that is extreme temperature changes. that's for sure. now, at the moment, we have 60s across much of the area, 61 in philadelphia. it's a little cooler in millville and at the shore because of the wind coming in off the 34 degree ocean. that's cold. and we're going to see the temperature crash pretty much after midnight. 60 at midnight. by 8:00 a.m. we'll be 32. it's almost a 30 degree drop. the feels like temperature will make it more like a 40 degree drop. it's feeling like it's in the teens all through the day. and when the eagles are playing, that's what it's going to feel like. feeling like 60s now, but by 6:00 a.m. the cold is already in. and by 7:30 in the morning, feeling like 13 in potts town.

it was a sumber domber day philadelphia. thousands lined the streets to say good bye to one of the bravest. >> aundrea cline-thomas was there to remember the life of captain letourneau. >> reporter: most people know matt letourneau as a firefighters but he was also a husband, father, friend and uncle. he was always willing to help people out. >> i can't believe we're here. not for anyone, not for matt. >> reporter: captain matt letourneau made his mark by showing up 100% for work for his family and friends. today, city residents and fellow first responders from across the country returned the favor. >> he had ideas. lots of ideas. and he was engaged.

rain. they want to keep the field dry and safe for the players. they're going to have to get that thing off the minute the rain ends because anything left on it might freeze into ice and it will be a difficult situation. if you're going out there tomorrow, be prepared for everything. you walk around tonight in flip-flops, brag how warm it is, enjoy. because when you go to bed and wake waup tomorrow morning it wl be winter again. take a look at the fog out there. the colder river water and then that warm air above, it looks very ominous. maybe that's a good sign for the eagles. 64 today was the high, we should be at 40, we're 25 degrees above average. this is a gift from mother nature. the low was 53 this morning. we've seen almost 1.25 inches of rainfall so fall. we may add another inch to that tonight. we're going to see a soaking across the area.

that's why we have a first alert. it's a weather whiplash for the entire area. we'll continue to see the rain. some of it is flooding rain locally on the roadways. be aware of that when you're out and about on your car. never drive through anything that's deep water. this is going to last through saturday night, this first alert. why is that? as soon as the heavy rain stops temperatures will plummet. it will be treacherous travel by tomorrow afternoon. dangerously cold with a wind chill that could be into the single digits during game time tomorrow night. doppler radar, the heaviest rain is offshore. we have this band moving through the philadelphia suburbs down into parts of delaware. allentown, reading, hatfield, downingtown, limerick, potts town and collegeville. that's where we have our storm ranger. it's checking out the heavier bands. you can see the shades of red

and yellow. we're able to discern where the heaviest rain is. so we go further to the south, wilmington is starting to pick up rain. middletown light showers. dover, you're dry right now but you're about to see rain. be prepared for that. off to the west we're looking at heavy snow from cleveland through cincinnati. ahead of that, this pink, that's a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain. we have all of this rain that still has to make its way through our area. that's why we're expecting a wet night. there's the cold front driving all of it. behind the cold front is the frigid air. the red arrows show you we have southerly winds. we're hanging onto the 60s through midnight. we'll see breaks in the showers periodically. 8:30, some showers in the suburbs and philadelphia. a little bit of a break around midnight. heavier showers yet to come. you notice the pinks now approaching the pocono and the lehigh valley. 3:00 in the morning we have a break across philadelphia. but they could be getting some freezing rain, so be aware of

that if you're driving in the upper pennsylvania suburbs, lehigh valley, berks county, poconos. look at the snow moving through altoona, maybe even pittsburgh. the snow doesn't hit us, but winds do come in. look at the shift of the winds. that's that cold air. i'm going to run this through the timeline. monday, going into tuesday. look, snow, there's another system coming. it may bring a dusting of snow into the poconos. wednesday we'll see rain transitioning to snow. we could be doing shoveling by late in the day on our wednesday. now, here are the temperatures, the big picture. the deep freeze is headed our way. 3 in minneapolis. 3 below zero in bismarck. look at the 60s. we're hanging onto it through midnight. it will be gone when you wake up tomorrow morning. 61 right now in philadelphia. 63 in coatesville. 63 in dover. 56 in vineland. 55 in atlantic city and 64 in trenton. we will break down the timeline

look like they're moving down into the city. i-95 in south philadelphia, you're going to need your wipers on the roads. right now we have a bit of a break from the worst of the weather. a lot of traffic out there for a friday evening. >> slow going on the schuylkill expressway. the weather is going to get worse over the next few hours. we have team coverage to help you prepare for all the weather we'll see this weekend. >> let's begin with first alert chief meteorologist tammie souza. she's tracking the rain for us. >> it's going to continue overnight as well. let's take a look at what's going on. what you have to prepare for. first of all, we have foggy conditions out there. any of the low lying areas you're driving through, it will probably have water in them in locally flooded areas. we'll also see patchy fog out there. tonight we'll see the rain, heavy at times. especially as we approach midnight, we'll get a good burst then. then it will start to taper off.

behind that comes this arctic blast. next week, we're tracking what could be another significant snow for our area. so we've got a whole lot that's going on. radar picking up another band stretching from the lehigh valley down through philadelphia and into parts of delaware. let's take a look at this quickly. from allentown down through hatfield, over to philadelphia we're seeing a steadier shower. philadelphia is on the edge of this, but it is moving in. be prepared, you'll see more rain headed your way in the next half hour. middletown and into the north and central portions of delaware, we're looking at a steadier rain developing as well. to the west we have heavy rains now moving through pittsburgh behind that, a line of sleet and freezing rain. behind that, some heavy snow. it's not the snow from this system that we're looking out for, but we're concerned about early tomorrow morning we could see freezing rain developing. here's what's going to go on.

let's walk you through tonight and into tomorrow morning. we'll see some more of these showers developing. they will kind of be sporadic. you'll get a bit of a break along the jersey shore. there will be breaks in delaware. we'll get breaks over philadelphia about 11:00. then we get that steadier rain moving in. behind that, at 3:00, we start to clear out in philadelphia. that's when you see the shades of pink moving into the lehigh valley. freezing rain is a potential out there overnight tonight. once the temperatures plummet we could see freezing of any standing water. that's a big concern, right glenn? >> those temperatures are definitely going down and what is going to bring them down is a change in the wind. you can barely see the flag, but it's blowing that way. tomorrow morning it starts blowing that way. that brings the arctic air in here. right now, we see temperatures that are still incredible for this time of the year. 61 in philadelphia. still 64 in allentown where we set a record earlier.

dover is 63. a cool spot, rehobeth beach, 47. right off the ocean. so most of the night tonight we're 60 plus. don't need any kind of heavy coat. you need the umbrella. toward daybreak we start to plunge. it's 4:00 a.m., it's around 60. and then it really goes down. by 8:00 a.m., it's 31 and feeling like 20. that's a 40 degree drop in the way it feels in just a few hours. then, it hangs in there feeling like the teens most of the day until it goes down even more tomorrow night right in the middle of the eagles game. we're feeling like 64 now. here comes the change. it just whips through here and it comes like that. so if you're out in the middle of the night and it's mild, you're not going to believe how fast it's going to cool down. this is also going to freeze

during a meeting with seven lawmakers discussing immigration. nbc 10's tim furlong spoke with a local man from haiti who is defending his homeland. >> reporter: i'm going to ask you flat out, is your country a [ bleep ]. >> no, it's not. >> reporter: fritz has lived in delaware for decades but he regularly goes back to his house in his home country of haiti. he's been texting back and forth about the comments the president reportedly made about haiti and some african countries. >> that's president trump. >> reporter: he respects the office of the president but he thinks donald trump isn't going to get a second term. >> we're going to get this done. >> reporter: all of this came about during discussions over immigration. president trump has denied using the s-word. in a statement he said he never said anything negative about haiti. >> reporter: he says after

and live. lov layoffs are coming to lh county. the cuts will come at rodale press distribution centers. in newcastle county tonight, there is a huge celebration to honor dr. martin luther king jr. it begins at 7:00 in wilmington. nine houses of worship put this service together. the event will honor king's life and legacy and include musical performances by several choirs. in montgomery county, 15,000 people are expected to attend the greater philadelphia pet expo underway right now in oaks. there are exotic and domestic animals. even a petting zoo there. the event runs through sunday and promises fur flying entertainment, some competitions as well, and more than 100

each species' strengths and weaknesses. rosemary connors reports. >> reporter: when you come to the elmwood park zoo, even on a rainy day, the first creatures that greet you are the eagles. they're not the only species of prey here. huddled in the wet weather, these falcons are tough birds. how does a falcon match up to an eagle? >> the eagles have stamina and strength. >> reporter: and focus. you've heard the term eagle eye. >> they can see the furthest. they go up really high, fly above everything else. they can go up 10,000 feet and soar and just pinpoint their prey like a snake climbing up a tree. >> reporter: but falcons are fast. >> they are dive birds. they can get up to 200 miles per hour in a straight dive. >> reporter: still, the eagles have power. giving them the edge over any opponent. >> a bald eagle has the record for the largest item carried in

much of the area picking up between an inch and inch and a half of rain. perhaps another half inch to inch on the way tomorrow. then it cuts off and we get an arctic blast. this is a harsh arctic blast. when you drop 30 degrees in maybe two hours, that is a shock to the system. next week we're tracking a storm, perhaps the middle of next week that could be another shoveling event. that's something we'll have to put in the back of our minds, get through this weekend and focus on the middle of next week. right now we're watching rain, another band of steady rain making its way through the area stretching from the lehigh valley to philadelphia. chester county down through parts of delaware. from reading to allentown, to pittsburgh, doylestown, limerick, new morgan that's where we're seeing the rain. and then a little bit further to the south, abington, you're getting light showers. philadelphia? you're going to be looking at steadier rain picking up. west chester, charlestown, we're

looking at steadier rain. further to the south from middletown to smyrna down to dover, we're looking at steady rain. all of this is going to be headed eastward. it's part of a huge and very powerful winter storm system. heavy snow from buffalo through cleveland, through cincinnati. ahead of that freezing rain, and ahead of that is all the rain we have to get through. let's walk you through hour by hour and get you ready for this. we're going to put the temperatures on here, because i know at the bottom of our screen you've been looking at temperatures and you're saying what do you mean it's going to be 68 tomorrow? that's at midnight. then it falls after that. watch the temperatures, watch the rain. here we go, we're in the 60s. we stay in the 60s. heavier rain coming in, about 8:00, 9:00 from the upper pennsylvania suburbs through philadelphia. look at the numbers, overnight we're up to 65. that's at 3:00 in the morning. 25 degrees above where we should be this time of year. then we start to see a little bit of a mixed freezing rain or

sleet making its way into the poconos and lehigh valley. the snow you see off to the west skirts us to the north. look at the temperature at 4:30 a.m. 59 in philadelphia. 37 in allentown. watch these numbers start to fall. 6:30 in the morning we're 38 in philadelphia. spotty showers around, maybe snow in the poconos. 27 by 9:30 tomorrow morning. let's take a look at how much more rain we're going to get. anything that falls is going to freeze tomorrow. we could see another inch in some places, maybe .7 of in inch. philadelphia, maybe another inch to inch and a half. the feels like temperature, 4:00 in the morning, that cold air is already invading. look at this, 15 in the poconos. still feels like 65 in philadelphia. 8:00 a.m., it will feel like 21. when you wake up it will not feel like today. game time, 4:00, it will feel like 17 in philadelphia. the game ends, it's going to feel like 8 degrees out there.

crimal criminally charged with aiding and abetting wire fraud and violating the bank secrecy act. they say western union failed to adequately protect its customers from fraudsters who duped people. western union has admitted guilt and paid $586 million to settle the charges. according to court records, between 2004 and 2015, more than 550,000 people filed fraud complaints with western union. the indictment claims western union has long been aware and has received many warnings that its system was being used for fraud. for many years, it failed to implement adequate and effective policies and procedures to detect and prevent fraud. a statement from western union says in part, wesrnon shares the government's goal of protecting consumers from fraud and is cooperating fully with doj to see that consumers are
