>> reporter: we continue on the weather roller costar this week with some know is in the forecast. >> we can win it all. >> gearing up to win it all. the eagles fan frenzy continues with shoppers stocking up on new flag. car goes airborne. what happened before this car got stuck in a second story. nbc10 news starts now. good evening. i'm denise nakano. our crazy winter weather continues this week, starting with bitter cold today, but by this time next week, we could kit the 50s. some enjoyed the sunny but cold weather today. camel back mountain was packed with skiers and snowboarders. steve sosna is tracking the wild winter weather. steve? >> that's right, denise. we have the cold part to talk about right now.

it is plenty cold. afternoon highs today only in the middle 20s. the average time for this time of year is 40 degrees. you can see how far away we were from that average today. 25 in philadelphia, 26 in allentown. only 18 in the poconos where they're making snow one again. the feels like temperature is 11 degrees in allentown. philadelphia, same story, 24, but feels like 13. down into wilmington, 21 feels like 12. so the wind is still out there. that biting wind will continue here through the evening and overnight hours. temperatures right now, this is how it feels outside 13 in philadelphia, 22 in wildwood. as you can see a very numbing night. temperatures feeling like the single digits overnight and right into your martin luther king jr. morning here with temperatures feeling like the single numbers. there is a big one up on the way, and that may coincide with the birds game.

new video tonight from south jersey. a cars up in the icy delaware river with two people inside. this was the aftermath today in burlington. police say two cars were involved in a crash. one of them went right through the metal barriers and plunged into the water. the two people were pulled from the car. they're in the hospital right now. investigators are still trying to figure out what led to that crash. new details tonight about a police-involved shooting in north philadelphia. it happened just before 11:00 last night. police stopped a car driving the wrong way on kensington avenue while one officer spoke with the driver, a second officer was talking with the passenger. police say the officer noticed the passenger had a gun and attempted to take him into custody. when the suspect went for the gun. the suspect was shot multiple times. he was taken to temple hospital in critical condition. police did recover a loaded 9 milammeter pistol from the

scene. the federal communications commission is now investigating the false alert that went out yesterday about a missile scare in hawaii. >> all personnel, take shelter immediately. >> that message was broadcast over loud speakers across the islands. a similar alert was sent out to cell phones that read, ballistic missile threat inbound to hawaii, seek shelter. this is not a drill. the alert set off a wave of hysteria that lasted about 40 minutes. and nbc10's reporter is in hawaii right now. >> i'm telling you, for 50 to 20 minutes when you think that life is going to be over because there is really -- they said a ballistic missile. got to call our kids and then tried to call the station to let them know, you know, that we're here. >> reporter: he said about 45 minutes after he got the alert, reports started to trickle in that it was a false alarm. stuck in a second story. how this car ended up like this.

the death toll in california's devastating mudslides continues to rise. searchers this morning found yet another body in the montecito area. and that brings the number killed to 20 now. four people are still missing. nearly a week ago, a powerful storm set off the mudslides from the mountain slopes burned bare by wildfires in september. this is out of orange county california, and police say around 5:00 in the morning, a speeding car hit a median and went airborne landing inside the

second floor of a dental office. then that car caught fire. the driver managed to get out. he was hanging on to the bottom of the car. police literally caught him. the driver and passenger walk add way with minor injures. new video into nbc10 of a diner fire. you can see the flames shooting through the roof of the philly diner and sports bar last night. firefighters quickly brought those flames under control. no one was hurt. the cause remains under investigation. we have breaking news tonight out of florida. this is a live picture, that's where one person is missing after this casino boat fire went up in flames. this is happening just off the city of port richie, about 40 miles from tampa. police say 50 people were on board that floating casino. 49 of them made it to shore. you can see crews are on the scene helping people out and putting out the fire. and the cold continues and we're tracking the next potential for some snow.

on tuesday, new jersey gets a new governor. republican chris christie is out and democratic governor murphy is in. today he spent the day with families at adventure aquarium in camden. no one nen's lauren mayk asked him about a unique plan for taxes. >> the governor-elect making a stop here in camden today and making a promise to this city. on his preinauguration tour, bill murphy and his family at the edge of a shark tank, prompting a joke about what he's about to get into. >> it's going to be -- >> reporter: set to replace governor chris christie this week, murphy and touring the state and meeting hopeful

spot where dr. king spoke back in 1965. a worship and musical service then followed. nbc10 was in new jersey where a group of high school football players received the 2017 a few good men award. the players were chosen to receive the honor because of their leadership and community service. one of today's award winners spoke about what that honor means to him. >> for me, it's just about keeping the game alive and keeping kids playing. i know in our town, kids don't want to play. the sport is a brotherhood and it's important for people to enjoy the same brotherhood i have in my career. >> a few few men serve -- turning now to weather and a sunny but brutally cold day in camden. some people braved the cold to get pictures along the delaware river still filled with chunks of ice. and things are warming way up by next weekend, but first, we're getting some snow and steve sosna has the timing of it all. >> good evening, denise. yes, we have some growing pains as we go from that arctic air

into the mild air. usually you have a storm system. we do have one on board for midweek. we'll be tracking the potential of snow. first, through tonight and tomorrow, it's just cold. it will turn cloudy here for your martin luther king day of service day. if you're going to be out and about doing those acts of service. in the morning hours, make sure you have lots of layers on because it will be quite chilly. temperatures starting off in the teens, ending around 30. snow showers in here on tuesday and tuesday afternoon. if all works out well with the system, we'll get the snow out of here by wednesday. but there are some computer models that hang it around for a little longer. i'll walk you through that in just a second. balmy for the birds. the eagles game couldn't be any different from the one that we saw yesterday. temperatures in the teens yesterday, how about 50s, well within the 50s next weekend. a busy shot there at the blue cross river rink in penn's landing. cold.

not letting get them down. they're out and about. you need the hats, gloves and covers here this evening. 9 degrees in the poconos. 21 in blue bell, 19 in coatsville. in the jersey show, the low to mid-20s, delaware right now, 19 in dover and 23 in rehoboth beach. as you can see, when you factor in just a little bit of wind into the equation, these numbers do drop. 13 is what it feels like in philadelphia. feels like 9 degrees in dover. overnight tonight, this is the last real cold night that we'll have to contend with. temperatures dipping down into the middle to upper teens. the feels like temperature will generally between 0 and 10 degrees. so let's take a look at your forecast here for tomorrow in philadelphia, again, that cold morning start at 19. 28 degrees by lunchtime. finishing off the day around 31 degrees. i don't expect any significant sunshine here in the forecast for tomorrow. suburbs, you're looking at 14

degrees here in the morning, 25 at lunchtime and by 4:00, you're in the mid to upper 20s. he high valley, low to mid teens. sunshine giving way to clouds. finally into south jersey and delaware, morning temperature in if the teens and 20s, finishing the day around 30 degrees. our next weather maker comes in on tuesday with the chance of snow, potentially into wednesday. we'll have to see how this all works out. leaning toward this system moving in and moving out, which should mitigate any damages from significant snowfall. here is tuesday at 12:00, tuesday at lunchtime, 3:00, 5:00. again, unfortunately, we are looking at the snow coming in during the evening rush hour. snowfall accumulations looking general and like maybe 1 to 2 inches with this. if we see a change in the track of the storm system, we'll have to bump up the amounts and we'll keep you updated throughout the week. let's turn it over to danny pommells. >> steve, thank you very much.
