bearded man seen in this isis propaganda video is the youngest of her four children, margate native zolfy. >> i am very upset. >> reporter: his mother says the 2010 graduate of atlantic city high school was born in the u.s. and raised in margate. his family still lives in this small seaside community. >> this weapon here is -- >> reporter: in the video released by isis in may, he used the name hamza enriki. court records reveal he travelled to syria and join isis in 2015, working his way up the ranks to become a senior commander. >> did he ever talk about terrorism before he left? >> no, no. >> reporter: but hoxsa's mother was troubled about people he was spending time with. >> he hate people.

poconos got the healthiest helping from this latest system. >> the sounds of the season in montgomery county. there was some shoveling to do in collegeville as students made their way to class in the freshly fallen flakes. first alert meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz with the latest. >> any slush left around that's frozen already or about to be frozen because it is really getting cold out there. the snow is over, but not that far away. you don't have to go very faur to the south. maryland eastern shore and there's drier air up in our area. it is expected to stay to the south. look at these temperatures. 25 degrees in philadelphia. only 19 in coatesville. 18 in lancaster. 21 in reading. so everything is going to get frozen solid that's out there now. 21 in allentown. 21 in the poconos.

8 inches of snow in the poconos. it feels like 11 in pottstown, reading and allentown. 10 in wilmington. so we still do have wind out there, and we're eventually going to have a warm-up. i'll tell you when that happens and how warm it gets coming up. new in the past hour, we've learned a california man charged with killing a university of pennsylvania student will have to wait until next month to see a judge. a hearing for 20-year-old samuel woodward was postponed until february. he stabbed 19-year-old blaze bernstein more than 20 times. the penn student's body was found in a shallow grave in a park a week later. bernstein was home on winter break when he disappeared january 2nd, the same night woodward picked him up and drove him to a park. nbc news spoke to his mother about the situation. >> i would like it very much if everyone could respect our privacy and the privacy of the

bernstein family. this is a time of great suffering. and we would ask that you would respect that suffering. thank you very much. >> the orange county register has reported there may have been sexual overtones to the crime but the d.a. is still looking for the exact motive. the city of philadelphia is trying to address's opioid epidemic by going straight to the source. the city filed a lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies that make and market addicted prescription drugs. leaders accuse the companies of deceptive marketing. that doesn't explain how dangerous the drugs could be. >> doctors were systematically giving false information about this and all trained these drugs were safe. >> the city is seeking millions to repay the costs associated with addressing the epidemic. it's believed 1200 people died of overdoses in philadelphia last year alone. medical marijuana took a

step forward today. it was a packed house inside keystone canna remedies in bethlehem for the grand opening today. it's the first marijuana dispensary in the state. dosages will be offered in the form of vaporization pills and liquids. doctors say medical marijuana can help patients suffering from a host of conditions. a former philadelphia flyer was at the granding today and explained why he chooses medical marijuana over opioids. >> a good portion of my life spent fighting and playing hockey. the grind of both of those led me to multiple surgeries and retiring at 28. to help me manage get through that transition period and help me manage my pain. >> they'll starting patients by mid-february. eagles fans everywhere are

fired up with four days to go before the birds make their bid for the super bowl. haverford middle school held a pep rally they prepare to play host to the nfc championship game. lincoln financial field will be a frenzy. dark now and silent but that's going to change sunday when the eagles take on the vikings with the winner moving on to the super bowl. lauren mayk is live. >> we're four days out. you found the anticipation booming out there. >> reporter: jim and jacqueline, we're used to seeing this kind of buzz before the super bowl but this year it's coming early. we're at tnf farmers pride and they are stocking up on stuff from pickles to pepperoni. as you start to think about your gameday parties and getting those orders in early, we found fans and local businesses getting ready. at talk of the town in south philadelphia, bill is excited.

not happy. today, dozens of protesters turned out for a hearing for convicted cop killer mumia abu-jamal. they are calling on the new district attorney to release documents. he was a supreme court justice during his appeals process. abu-jamal is serving a life sentence for killing police officer daniel faulkner back in 1981. cracking down. up next, police call it our area's version of a red light district. only nbc 10 is there as undercover officers take on a hidden krcrime operating around the country and here at home. change is on the way. the snow has moved. look at what's moving in just in time for the weekend next in my first alert forecast.

massage businesses identifies an international pipeline for human trafficking thats right to our region. >> it's found more than 9,000 illicit massage parlors are open for business in the u.s. 700 of those are operating in pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. denise nakano spent months looking into the problem of sex trafficking tied to sex parlors in our own communities. >> reporter: they are hiding in plain sight. >> right here. >> reporter: illicit massage businesses where you walk, work and live. >> very scary. especially with children. >> reporter: often these illicit massage businesses are a front for human trafficking, according to polaris, a non-profit group based in washington, d.c., that tracks modern day slavery across the u.s. >> typically, they come in from flushing, new york, and philadelphia is a main stopping point for the trafficking to occur. >> reporter: polaris put a

spotlight on philadelphia and other areas where they operate at the expense of human suffering. >> our willingness to buy the belief that it's not a problem, it's not really happening. that's why it's been happening in philadelphia for decades. >> reporter: about 100 illicit massage businesses operate throughout philadelphia, according to officers with the philadelphia police department's citywide vice unit. >> i've been a cop almost years. i had no clue. no idea that human trafficking and prostitution was this big a problem in the city of philadelphia. >> going to be our eyes. >> reporter: only nbc 10 was there when undercover vice officers cracked down on illegal massage businesses in areas known for the city's biggest concentration. rittenhouse and chinatown. on the 1800 block of lud low. >> this is philadelphia's version of the red light

district. >> reporter: they arrested two women working in a massage parlor on charges of prostitution after one solicited an officer for a sex act. hours later police arrested another woman for prostitution at a massage business on arch street. after a worker propositioned an officer two minutes into his visit. >> been here several times, and sent a decoy officer in, and he got solicited for $160. >> reporter: any time of day, for decades, men have gone into these establishments. few get arrested. none were happy to see us. >> do you come here often? tell me why you're here. >> sorry. >> reporter: instead, it's the women are likely victims of sex trafficking who get charged with prostitution. the businesses typically get shut down for code violations, only to reopen under a different name with new women. >> if we have over 300 arrests

on this block, there's only been maybe, not even 20 that have been repeat offenders. they're constaptly bringing new women in here to work. >> reporter: within a couple weeks of shutting down, polaris found a review on a website that showed evidence the same business on ludlow at the center of the undercover sting was back in operation providing sex-related services. it's a game of whack-a-mole. polaris says the city is losing and women are pay with their freedom. >> a lot of the women don't realize what they are coming here to do. and they are typically coerced into doing it. >> nbc 10's denise nakano reporting. human trafficking is often a hidden crime where victims rarely come forward to help because of language barriers or threats from the traffickers. to find out ways to help and learn more aboutularis' effort to stop human trafficking, go to

nbc10.com and search trafficking. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> we started the day off with snow as we had been predicting for days, even from last week. and it was sticking in many areas, especially north and west. a little warmer from philadelphia south and east. a lot of it melted and then moved out on schedule as well. but there's a lot of snow still down in southern virginia. and parts of the maryland eastern shore. there's dry air up here, it is not making any progress to the north. today's highs, well, many of those after midnight. 39 degrees. that helped keep the ground warm enough so that the snow melted. but these temperatures north and west really fell. and now we're in the low 20s. 19 in coatesville. that snow stuck. now it's just starting to get cold at the shore which just got

a little bit of snow and temperatures above freezing. feels like it's 10 in wilmington and lancaster and into the teens across much of the rest of the area. this is the way it's going to feel for much of the night and into the morning so we have cold air visiting us. 7 in pottstown. 9 in doylestown. by tomorrow morning, similar numbers. 14 in philadelphia and even at the shore feeling like in the teens to 20. middle of the afternoon tomorrow, it's not feeling. that's more than into the mid-20s. tomorrow night is still cold. and friday morning it's still cold. so we're not done with this yet. it's nothing. nothing near as cold as what we have seen so far but it's also going to be the coldest that we're going to see in quite a while because we've got quite a warm-up here. 38 on thursday for the high. 45 friday. 55 on saturday. and we have jumps in temperatures all across the

area. and once we get into the 50s on saturday, we're going to be in the 50s on sunday as well. and that includes the eagles game. still looking like about a 50-degree kickoff temperature. at least ten degrees above normal. so even though the game is at night, the temperature is not going to drop much -- too much because we have a lot of warm air moving in for monday. and if you look at this week's game compared to last week's, it felt like 17 last week when they started. it's going to feel like 15. it's about a 35-degree improvement in the way it's going to feel for you. i'm john clark. coming up, a few eagles are still feeling disrespected being underdogs again. we'll hear from them. and why the eagles receivers are getting more comfortable with nick foles. that's next.
