breaking news. a u.s. marshal shot and killed in harrisburg this morning. two other officers hurt. nbc 10 is live in the state capital. philly, in the top 20. amazon narrows the choices for its second headquarters and the competition gets fierce. an eagles road to victory. we just heard from head coach doug pederson about the championship game as the excitement builds. >> announcer: nbc 10 brarking news. three law enforcement officers were hurt after serving a warrant this morning and we just learned one of them a u.s. marshal has died. good morning, i'm erin coleman. we're also learning that the suspect was critically wound. let's go to nbc 10 steven fisher

he is live at the scene. steven, what have you learned? >> reporter: so far we've been told the task force was out here this morning serving a search warrant about 6:30, and that's when the u.s. marshal was shot here on mull berry street. take a look at the scene. we've got police all over from a couple different agencies here. you'll of course have mulberry street which is shut down. there are crime scene markers all over the street. you can't see that now that this police car just came in here and kiechb blocked our view. also investigators, police going in and out of every home here on the block trying to talk to neighbors about this potential suspect. again, a u.s. marshal was killed and a york city police officer also shot during this altercation. but his injuries, the york city detective rather, are considered to be non-life-threatening. harrisburg officer was also injured but expected to be okay. the names of the officers involved not released as of now, but we can tell you the public is not in any danger. that according to police. the suspect, according to mayor here in harrisburg, was

critically injured when officers returned fire. we're still working to learn more about that suspect and what type of search warrant was served this morning. we expect to have more answers for you coming up later this evening. police have planned a press conference here in harrisburg at 2:00. we will be there and bring you the latest and newest information coming up this evening. steven fisher, nbc 10 news. also breaking this s one st to landing amazon's second headquarters. the online retailer announced this morning that it had narrowed its list of choices to 20 cities, and philadelphia made the cut in all. 238 different communities submitted proposals to amazon, other cities advanced to the second round include pittsburgh, newark, new jersey, boston, and washington, d.c. >> announcer: now your nbc 10 first alert weather. frigid conditions throughout our area this morning ant winds are making it feel even colder

outside. a live look right now at center city philadelphia you see those flags waving. definite a day to bundle up. bill henley is here with your most accurate forecast. bill. >> we've seen lots of sunshine since it's been up but the temperatures have not made much progress. look closely you can see the birds are grounded it's so cold. sunshine is slowly warming temperatures up, but we've been battling the wind which has been steady out of the northwest at 14 miles per hour that's cold air that's dumping into the area and making cold air feel colder. now it feels like it's in the teens in pottstown, allentown, 16 in wilmington, 17 there. atlantic city feels like 17 right now. temperature without the wind is now in the 20s after dipping down into the teens. look at the sunshine. the lehigh valley, new jersey, suburbs and philadelphia too. we are on track to see temperatures climb above freezing but not a lot above

freezing. sunny, 33 degrees at 2:00 with the northwestly wind at 15 miles per hour, and just after sunset 33 degrees in philadelphia. we will see the temperatures climb. in between those hours we hit 36 degrees in philadelphia, little bit cooler in the suburbs and just below freezing but still melting conditions with bright sunshine in the lehigh valley. there will still be snow on the ground later today but it will be disappearing over the next several days. a major warm-up is ahead. your weekend forecast when i come back in a few minutes. we are three days from the eagles big nfc championship game. fans are getting pumped up and the team is too. head coach doug pederson spoke just a few minutes ago and said that last week's win raised the confidence of quarterback nick foles. >> obviously having a game like he had and as efficient as he was it just boost confidence, you know, going forward. you know, he's -- nick is nick.

covered with exclusive pregame shows. join us friday night and saturday for special eagles coverage. then get ready for game day right here. join nbc 10 starting sunday morning at 10:00 for exclusive coverage all day long. we've learned nine people who were in a delaware county home when it caught fire will be okay. these photos showed the home on rodney avenue just after the fire started at 4:00 this morning. it took firefighters about an hour and a half to get those flames under control. a family member tells us all nine people including children were able to make it out of the house. they went to a neighbor's home to stay warm. all nine are in the hospital getting checked out but that family member says none of their injuries are serious. she also tells us several of the people were from out of town and they were visiting to attend a funeral. investigators are going to try to figure out what caused that fire today. west philadelphia firefighters found three people trapped on top of this building.

early this morning they escaped to the roof after flames tore through the home. firefighters rescued everyone and they should be okay. city inspectors are now on the scene investigating if the owner was violating city rental laws. a crash investigation and a sea of flashing police lights shut down a main travel hub in camden county overnight. they cloesed all lanes just past the interchange in route 38. but those lanes are back open this morning. we are making calls to police about what happened here and if anyone was hurt. . happening now in atlantic county doctor charged with murdering his wife is facing a judge. dr. james kauffman is part of the group that has a detention hearing today to determine whether bail is an option forts suspect. last week, prosecutors charged coffman, three other men, and one woman in a drug-related murder plot. a worker for the kauffman easy found april kauffman dead inside the couple's linwood home back

in 2012. she was a popular jersey shore radio host. in north philadelphia, two mass gunman stormed a corner store and shot a man eating a sandwich and then took off. when police arrived just after 7:00 last night they found the victim in an aisle, his body was riddled with bullets. doctors pronounced the 22-year-old dead after he was rushed to the hop. police say the victim often went to the north sixth street store and they believe he was targeted. shot while waiting at a bus stop, philadelphia police say someone rattled off more than a dozen bullets in northern libertity around 9:30 last night. one of them hit a woman in the hip. investigators don't believe she was an intended target. police tell us the only evidence they found at the scene near 7th and green streets were bullet casings. the victim is expected to make a full recovery. and now for a check on the roads with nbc 10 first alert traffic jessica boyington. what are you seeing? >> we're starting on 95. we're seeing delays here and that's because of of a construction project or at least

some rolling work crews up ahead. 95 around the blue route here. this is the southbound side. we're seeing all traffic pretty much stopped because there's lane restrictions up ahead. a second ago the same lane restrictions were here and we were having the crews working on other side as well. it looks like some of that's cleared away. moving toward philadelphia or the airport you'll be better go now. also watching for the same kind of crews on the northern blftd. in norris town, a crash on swede street and also opt 42 cre way there's some pothole repairs. that's coming away from philadelphia back towards south jersey from 290 phi to the atlantic city expressway and that will be happening until they're finished the. we might see on and off delays especially moving through. drive times on the other side heading northbound aren't doing too bad. the words of an olympic gold medalist. this morning we hear from

for a third straight day dozens of women are giving testimony about their sexual abuse by former gymnastics dr. larry nasser in the say live look now from his sentencing hearing in lancing, michigan, where another victim is testifying about how the abuse she suffered has impacted the way she's raising her children. nasser has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing underage girls that were under his care. the first to testify against nasser this morning was elite gymnast jamie dancer. she was a member of the bronze olympic team in 2000. she was the first to accuse him in 2016. and in the past half hour a statement was read in court by mckayla maroney. >> our silence has given the wrong people power for too long and it's time to take our power back. >> more women have contacted the court about wanting to testify. the judge says if they would like to tell their story, the

court will make the time and she will order a sentence on monday. the california parents accused of torturing their 13 children will be in court today and we're learning new douetail about what happened in that home. the siblings were allowed to eat only one meal a day and shower just twice a year. investigators say david and louise turpin kept their kids in squaller and had them chained to the beds as well for years. police arrested the couple bhond one -- on monday when one of their daughters escaped and called 911. meteorologist bill henley. look at the wind blowing in center city. we have sunshine and also some warmer days ahead but today it's sunshine versus the wind. the sun is trying to warm us up, the wind sen surg that we're not going to warm up all that much

about the but there are changes to the wind ahead, so a big warm-up is in the works. the trend really starts this afternoon, but a winning eagles forecast, you can count on that. a big change compared to the last game that was so brutally cold. the cold air with sunshine. for now that snow is going nowhere but the sun will be bright enough. some of that snow will be disappearing from reading and the rest of the area too. twenlts for the lehigh valley, suburbs, delaware, we're all pretty much in the same territory because of that wind. right now in berks county, lehigh valley, read reading is reporting 26 degrees. that's warmer than first thing in morning and temperatures are slowly climbing. look at walnut, 21 degrees while white hall is 28 and it's 23 degrees in bethlehem. you have to bundle up this morning in philadelphia and still have to. it's getting closer to the 30 degree mark in society hill. and at the airport 28 degrees in the in new jersey, 20s all around from lumberton to washington township, even hope

we will township. these were all very cold numbers to start with but everyone will see enough sunshine to warm in more places, chestnut hill into the middle 30s today, just below freezing in doils town, and below freezing in coats town and allentown by a degree. we'll see some melting into the day today. the wind willing blowing all day in new jersey and you'll feel those winds into wilmington, that's why we'll top out in the milled 30s in wilmington and smerna 36 degrees. we had some clouds first thing this morning but no wet weather. that was all offshore and it is expected to push farther offshore. look to the west, no storms coming our way for the next several days. we're going to be dry, not just today. and the changes for the winds, those are the winds that we'll experience this afternoon. 14 miles per hour northwesterly

. . >> announcer: nbc 10 breaking news. we continue to follow that breaking news from harrisburg where three law enforcement officers were shot this morning. one of them a u.s. marshal has died. nbc 10 steven fisher's live at the scene. steven, what's happening there now? >> reporter: well, erin, it was around 6:30 this morning when police tell us that a task force was out here on mulberry street to serve a search warrant to the house. and the house was on this side of that street. and then as that was happening, we're told a u.s. marshal was shot ultimately killed. now this is still an active scene out here on mulberry street. there are evidence markers all over the sidewalk and the road. it's difficult to see from our vantage point here but police are going door to door interviewing neighbors. again, a u.s. marshal was shot and killed here this morning in harrisburg. a york city detective also shot

people in center city bundled up, coffee in hand and the winds made it feel even colder outside, but a warm-up is on the way. we like to hear that nbc 10 first alert meteorologist bill henley is here. >> we've got bright sunshine, the temperatures are climbing but it's going to be a cold day all around today, especially cold in the mountains. but these skiers are proof you can still enjoy being outdoors on a day like this if you just bundle up. you certainly have to do that this morning. we will see a gold win blowing through the day today but we'll have that sunshine all day long. and then tonight you'll have some winds coming in tonight, but it will still be cold tonight. we've got warmer days ahead. right now 20 nate philadelphia. that's a big improvement from the teens that we started with. 28 in dover, pots town, allentown 24 degrees but the poconos mountains still stuck in the teens this morning. sunshine in the 30s, above freezing for the suburbs and philadelphia up to 36 degrees in new jersey, the lehigh valley will be close to the freezing

point this afternoon, and 35 degrees with those cold winds blowing through the day in delaware. this is going to be the coldest day of the next ten. wait till you see the ten-day forecast, i've got a good looking eagles game day forecast too when i come back in a few minutes. erin. well, another blast of cold weather means water problems are getting worse across philadelphia. these are just a few of the pipe problems and water main breaks that have flooded neighborhoods just in the last month. the problem is so bad the city says it just can't keep up. the philadelphia water department says it is getting so many phone calls to fix water mains it's turning now to social media for help. you can request help for a problem through the facebook and twitter accounts, but, keep in mind that the department is backlogged with service requests and city crews are working 16-hour shifts to make up for the surge in breaks. the water department said it's had more water main breaks in the first two weeks of the year than in all of last january.

it. parts will be of necessity, see through, and it was never intended to be built in areas where there is natural protection such as mountains, waste lands, or tough rivers or water. some democrats reported that trump aide john kelly told them there are parts of the border where a wall isn't needed. right now president trump? a closed mooetd meeting with military leaders at the pentagon. they tweeted that a government shutdown will be very devastating to our military, something the dems care very little about. mr. trump spoke just moments before heading into this meeting. >> shut down the group that loses big would be the military and we're never letting our military lose at any point. we're going to fund our military, we're going to have a military like we've never had before, because we've just about, just about never needed our military more than now. thank you all very much. >> now later today president trump will visit a pittsburgh

industrial equipment to talk about the economy. the president expected to talk about republican tax cuts and how they will benefit workers. he also tweeted he's offering his support for republican rick sa comb who is running for a congressional seat in the pittsburgh area in a special election in march. happening right now, all eyes are on wall street after a record close yesterday. dow closed above the 26,000 mark for the first time ever. had say live look at the new york stock exchange big board. you can see right now still about that 26,000 mark, down about 90 points or so. several banks are higher this morning after reported better than expected earnings. this morning, turkish authorities are using a large crane to remove a commercial plane that skidded off a runway. tended up on the edge of a cliff last week stopping short of the water. all 168 people on board got off safely. now this is what that scene looked like this morning.

ambulances and fire extinguishing trucks were on stand by as the crane pulled the plane up you the slope. investigators are still looking into what exactly happened. though the pilots told them the plane's right engine suddenly sped up and that forced them to swerve left toward the sea. this afternoon delaware governor john carney will deliver his state of the state address. the governor says will highlight job creation, financial stability in schools when he addresses a joint session in dover. happening tonight, the flyers will retire number 88 and hont career of nhl hall of famer eric lind drus. lin drus will have his number retired just before the start of tonight's game against the maple leafs. he spent eight seasons with the flyers. he is the sixth player in flyers history to have his number retired. also happening tonight, the nba will announce the starters for next month's all-star game

trump presidency and now find themselves looking to turn their, you know, activism and anger, if you will, into something really productive. and they're seeking opportunities from school board on up. and so now we're starting to see this momentum move into the me too movement. we know that there have been allegations come forward by multiple folks in harrisburg and we've had a resignation on new year's eve by the fire commissioner. and so there are opportunities for women throughout the entire common wealth and we're here to help prepare them. >> talk about the campaign training event next month. >> so it's a one-day, nonpartisan program. there's no public policy litmus test to participate. and we really focus on skills building. so throughout the day you are going to learn fundraising skills, which we hear from women often times, you know, is of concern. no one likes to ask for money.

delaware, lee my valley and the subbushtss. uniform temperatures because of the steady wind that's blowing. unionville is 26, spring city, and just a couple degrees warmer for college hill, 25 in lansdale. so it's a cold one today for sure especially with that steady wind that's not going to let up during the afternoon. so our feels like temperatures, the wind chills are going to stay cool all day long. it will feel like 19 degrees at 4:30 this afternoon in allentown, 23 in vineland and 25 in philadelphia. as we go into the evening hours, the wind will die down a bit but the temperature will also be coming down because we have nice clear skies, which gives us plenty of sunshine during the day but cold nights. so we're in store for another cold night but you won't see anything falling from the sky, not today, not tonight, not tomorrow. the nearest showers are offshore and they're not coming anywhere near us. the next system that i expect to come into the area is moving into the pacific northwest and

even idaho, montana, western montana getting a rain/snow mix. that's going to be a rainmaker for us. that won't be here today, tonight, tomorrow, even friday or the weekend. it's going to wait until the weekend comes to an end, which means we're in good shape for the vikings/eagles game. much warmer than it was last weekend. 50 degrees at kickoff. upper 40s at halftime with partly cloudy skies. the winds will be light the entire time and late in the game 46 degrees for the fourth quarter. that's unseasonably warm for this time year, just a light breeze. the clouds will be building, but it will be dry. the wet weather will hold off until next week. today just have to deal with the wind, that cold wind, 36 degrees the high temperature, will feel like about 26 degrees at the warmest today. tomorrow after that cold morning temperature of 23, we warm to 45 and that's just the beginning. into the 50s this weekend. 55 on saturday. little bit cooler but a lofrt sunshine on sunday. earlier in the day.
