motive? >> reporter: well, jacqueline and jim, they believe an argument led up to this murder. malachi white, the suspect, had mental health issues and was off his medication. he admitted to police that he killed his mother in the sixth floor apartment they shared together. >> the fact that that happened is outrageous. >> reporter: the avenue at east falls home to students, couples and families became a crime scene that brought investigators to an apartment that a mother shared with her son. >> family members contacted the police. they had not seen her in a couple of days or heard from her. police went to the residence. >> reporter: 49-year-old tammy blunt was found stabbed and bludgeoned to death. they recovered a hammer. they believe her son malachi white used it in the attack. >> this is just terrible. nobody deserves anything like this. >> reporter: sources say 27-year-old lived in the

reporting live, aundrea cline-thomas, nbc news. so many eagles fans want to get to minnesota for the game. the airport is adding extra flights. >> here's a look at philadelphia international. southwest announced it's increasing flights and using bigger planes for flights from philly to minnesota. eagles fans are more eager and willing to travel to the compared to patriots fans. >> stubhub released the ticket sales now. sales from pennsylvania are 13% higher than those from massachusetts. the cheapest ticket available is now,000. but that's down by two grand compared to two days ago. >> nbc 10 your official eagles station is your home for super bowl ii. this is the only place you can watch the game if you're not going to minneapolis. count on us for super bowl coverage you can't get anywhere else. now to your first alert neighborhood forecast. chilly evening out there. we look live down broad street

in center city. the cold is back after that really mild stretch we were enjoying. let's bring in first alert meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz with more on how long this cold stretch is here for. >> just for the rest of the week. by the weekend, it's going to be unseasonably mild again. this is a live shot of the ppl building in allentown. the flag on top is still blowing hard. the wind continues to bring in colder and colder air. down to 39 in philadelphia. 34 in perkasie. blue bell, coatesville, reading. 36 in wilmington. 38 in wildwood. just about everyone has gotten down into the 30s. and the feels-like temperatures continue to drop through the 20s down to 26 in wilmington. 5 in pottstown and 24 in reading. through the night, no snow, but it's to get cold. by morning, we're talking about temperatures down into the low 20s in a good bit of the area.

everybody goes into the 20s. it will feel like the teens with the wind. i'll let you know how much it's going to warm up and how much rain is coming. today a judge tossed seven counts in the corruption case against new jersey senator bob menendez, but others remain. the counts that were dismissed centered on bribery, as well as political donations to menendez from florida eye doctor solomon melgen. 11 counts still remain against the two men. menend menendez's first trial ended in a hung jury. the government said it will retry them both. president trump hosted a gathering of mayors at the white house. philadelphia mayor kenney said no to the invitation. >> he's threatening at some point to lock mayors up from sanctuary cities. i don't think that's an inviting or hospitable approach. and just be -- should be up

front with how you feel and don't invite people you don't really want to deal with or help. >> several other mayors boycotted after the justice department put new pressure on cities that don't cooperate with immigration authorities. the doj sent latetters to 23 so-called sanctuary cities. philadelphia was left that list today, even though it is a sanctuary city. mayor kenney said he's not sure why the city was left off and suggested maybe it was a typo. today a former usa gymnastics doctor was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison for decades of sexual abuse. that sentence followed days of gut-wrenching testimony for more than 150 of larry nassar's victims. before the sentence was handed down, nassar read a statement of apology. the judge said his statement was insincere and said he did not

deserve to walk outside of a prison ever again. four people are recovering tonight after they were hit by a drive-by shooting in north philadelphia. 16 shots were fired outside the passenger side of a car around 9:last night. police believe a 22-year-old man who was hit several times was the target. also caught in the line of were two 13-year-olds and a 52-year-old man. they're all expected to survive. a rash of robberies has stores in reading on edge. according to the police chief, there have been 25 robberies since december. all but four of the cases have been solved. most of the crimes are not planned but are, instead, crimes of opportunity to satisfy a drug addiction. >> looking for money. they looked across the street. there's a store. they looked at it. let's see if we can get some money and went in and got it. it's just an opportunity. they need the money and want to

well on i-95. the camera is shaking a little bit. we still have wind out there bringing in colder air. our highest temperature was 45 degrees early this morning. 49 in allentown but 33 is the current reading in pottstown. 39 in philadelphia. you can see 22 degrees at mt. pocono. it has really started to cool down. not only to 39 at philly international but 36 in andora. so it is going down through the 30s, even in the city of philadelphia. and we still have wind. 10 to 15 miles an hour. even 18 miles an hour sustained in dover. and that's why it feels like 31 degrees there. 26 in wilmington. 24 degrees in reading. so it's cold out there already. remember, got up to 62 degrees the last couple of days.

a lot of clouds around. some breaks with sunshine. then the clouds came back. we have some snow flurries and snow showers in central pennsylvania. this generally does not come across the mountains but we'll keep an eye on that. and that's a sign of the colder air coming in. tomorrow, lots of sunshine more than today. less wind than today. but the temperature is lower than today. 39 in fairmount for the high. elwin 37. schwanksville, 36. for january, that's on the cold side. 40 degrees in newark and dover and rehoboth beach. that is tomorrow. now friday, another cold day. but lots of sunshine and not quite as cold as tomorrow. so nice looking day. more used to the old by then.

saturday it jumps up, well up into the 50s with a lot of sunshine. no rain. so that's the day for outdoor travels. on sunday, it's going to be real loud, but it's also going to be cloudy. it's also going to be wet. expecting rain. right now doesn't look all that heavy. and traveling to minneapolis, or know somebody who is, don't be fooled by the next couple of days of mild weather because it's going to get colder. these are the high temperatures, now low temperatures by early next week and by the time they play the game. the temperatures may be in the single digits with nightly lows below zero in minneapolis. so here's our warm weekend into the 50s. we drop drastically early next week. high only 33 on tuesday. then right back up by thursday and friday. and look at that. winter returneth a week from
