i have covered a couple super bowls. there are a ton of distractions. let me just tell you. it's going to be a crazy week in minneapolis. one of the biggest sporting events the planet. tim furlong, nbc 10 news. sgluf always remained focused. we know that. >> reporter: i'm the worst. i'm the poster child for not being distracted. >> he'll get back on track. imagine making your super bowl party plans and then you find out you're going to the game for free. >> that dream just became a reality for one lifelong eagles fan. this is john. he was born and raised in philadelphia and today found out he is going to the big game. former eagle brian west brok showed up at his house and gave him the tickets. he was a little stunned. >> i mean, this is unbelievable. this is probably the best moment of my life. i couldn't believe it.

include a $25 billion trust fund for the border walling chain migration and ending the visa lottery. the plan was immediately by democra democrats. >> tonight the suspected shooter accused of ambushing a philadelphia officer is now on trial. prosecutors say edward archer nearly killed an officer two years ago. today arch. let's go to aundrea cline-thomas, who was inside that courtroom today for some of this testimony. >> reporter: there's an overwhelming amount of evidence from surveillance video to a confession, but the defense reminded the jury that edward archer is presumed innocent. the prosecution's responsibility is to prove every single charge. the surveillance video showing the officer being ambushed by a gunman who fired 13 shots is key

evidence in the case against edward archer. the jury also got a closer look at the crime scene. the shattered glass and bullet holes in the patrol car. the gun with the empty magazine recovered nearby. >> absolutely amazed that he's even here to sit in this trial. we are bless ed to have him her. >> reporter: the officer has had 11 surgeries since being shot three times in the arm. he was in the courthouse but kept out of the courtroom today. but family was there crying at times as they watched video and listened to the details. the they also had a clear view of archer, who told police he was inspired by isis. >> he gave a confession that night in which everybody doesn't. so what his motives were that evening, he gave one. >> reporter: he was defiant reing to give a plea of guilty or not guilty saying, i don't plead to anyone but allah.

all maintaining no express throughout proceeding. his defense called the officer a hero but urged a jury not to make decisions based on e emotions, but the law. the officer is expect ed to testify in this trial. the julk says the trial is supposed to last. surveillance video captures the moment a father was held at gunpoint by a postal worker as he tried to put his baby in his car. three other men show up to help the gunman. the victim says they threat bed to kill his baby unless he handed over money. he had won playing poker. the victim says he was tied up and hit in the face, but he is expected to be okay. things are cooling down at the scene of a fire in kensington. sky force 10 was over the scene

the teens in parts of area later on tonight. but the wind is going to be diminishing. the temperature going down through the 20s. and sol places down into the teens by morning. but we are going to see a significant warm-up by the weekend. we'll see when the rain is going to come in in just a few minute. tonight the district attorney announced a new position that will focus ob protecting the rights of immigrants dealing with the criminal justice system. he was the council to the da. the idea came from the district toesh attorney's office in new york city. the initiative is helping mainly because witnesses are more willing to talk about crimes when they know they won't get in trouble. too many patients and not enough beds. this flu season has gotten so bad a hospital is pitching tents outside to create more space for sick patients. it isn't being called an

emergency yet, but they are seeing way more positions. patients with more severe cases are being sent inside. a a new jersey man wants to raise the speed limit on the garden state parkway to 75 miles per hour. he started a. petition ob.org seeking the increase. in the petition the man says raising the speed limit will encourage people to travel further for a job and lower unemployment rates. the state hasn't increased the speed limit since 1998 when it was raised from 55 to 65. philadelphia city council is looking to replacing traffic cops with regular people. today the council president introduced a resolution that would call for hearings on the matter. the goal is to loosen the log jam by using civil yan officers. those officers could issue traffic citations but would not carry weapons and would not be

replacement might need to include an investigation into team loyalty. ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. >> that's one strong woman standing her wouground. the big game means big business. eagles gear is flying off the shelves in the mall in north wilmington. the store has autographed pictures and jerseys from current eagles players and workers say they have seen a huge boost in sales that feature former players as well. tonight a hitchhiking robot is trying to make its way from philadelphia to the super bowl. this is bird bot. they are asking eagles fans to pass bird bot around. the plan is to get the bot to minneapolis to the super bowl and back to philly again. the social experiment is a playoff of hitch bot, another that tried in 2015 but he was beheaded once it fwot.

38 in dover. 35 in allentown. those numbers well below average despite the sunshine and now we're in the 20s already in millville and pottstown and wilmington and about to go into the 20s just about everywhere else. let's see where we are in philadelphia while it's 35 at the airport. it's 29 in park side. so just about to go into the 20s and west mount. so those are the other cool spots. now we're going to have a lot of sunshine tomorrow. very light winds. the winds going to start shifting into the south. and saturday, that's going to push the temperature up. a lot the of sunshine. that's going to bring rain. not necessarily heavy rain, but we're talking abopotentially ho of rain. kind of a rainy, very mild day for sunday. then this starts to move out.

but that isn't necessarily the end of the story. moisture is sitting out there. the next system, this is a smaller and mainly upper air disturbance moves in from the west while the temperatures are going down. so that means we have the threat of some snow later wednesday night and into tuesday. so this does have potential for some accumulation. and the temperatures may be a bit on the marginal side. but tomorrow, nothing but sunshine. 46 in fairmont. 442 in allentown. and in easton, robinsville, 43. dover at 44. and the weekend forecast is warm. it's warm and dry on saturday. warm and wet on sunday. for the whole area. headed to minneapolis, not too
