light snow tomorrow generally in the morning and then gone and then we go to this cold pattern and we're not sure what kind of jacket to put on and a shot of snow sunday. we are watching rain showers and have a coastal front moving past it and behind it is a clipper system dashing through and brings us a light coating of snow. the thing is it's a very very light amount. how light? this comes in, the ground is relatively warm, it isn't frozen, temperatures don't fall quite enough. >> comes through, temperatures right above freezing. perhaps we see this coating the grassy areas and melting quickly. we'll talk about the snow and the rest of your work week and head off to minneapolis and take a look at the frigid weather there. >> all right, tammy.

we went through early through the state capital, harrisburg and no matter where we stopped today no matter whether you have a team or not everybody has a favorite with patriots and eagles. take a look what our drive was looking like. it was pretty smooth sailing until 45 minutes ago we hit this snow in ohio. heading west on the turnpike, we had to m3iyh a couple stops and food and gas and stretch our legs and not hard to find people talk ugh about the super bowl rematch. a lot of people outside philadelphia not tom brady fans. we even found a woman from delaware valley making a trip to minneapolis. >> he's great at what he does, but i'm just not a fan of him. >> i want the eagles to win and i think they can.

>> other news, emotional day in court. a police officer breaks down in tears testifying about the moment he was hit with a hail of gunfire two years ago. george was in court when the officer gave his first hand account. >> reporter: officer jessie hartnett's testimony brought tears to the family members in the front row describing his split second reactions, bending over, using his left arm to shield himself from gunfire not knowing he had been hit until he felt the throbbing. officer hartnett walked out the star witness in the case against the man accused of shooting him two years ago. hartnett testified he was working alone that night, his partner was on vacation and he was under the weather, driving to pick up a cup of hot tea. video of the attack played in court again and again. hartnett said he saw the shooter and his gun out of the corner of

his eye and bent over in his patrol car to take cover as he heard the bang of gunfire pounding his vehicle. 13 shots. he told the jury he wondered when is it going to stop. his radio call moments later conveys the urgency [ radio transmission ]. >> reporter: as he got up to chase the shooter hartnett was in such pain he said i thought my arm was going to fall off my body and hit the street. in the distance you can see the red and blue lights of backup en route and thought to himself, hurry up, hurry up, i know how bad i am, as he walked the jury through his recollections today hartnett took off his own shirt and showed the skryourry the scars that still linger up and down his own arm. he told jurors he has never been able to return to work since this incident even after 11 surgeries and continuing therapy he still has trouble lifting

all new at 5:00, a sitting sheriff handing out bribes for a mayor on trial, all while in office he said he gave money for contracts. >> reporter: a sheriff said he spent big money trying to get the attention of allentown's mayor and saw nothing wrong with giving him contributions as well as taking him to an eagles playoff game. back in 2013, he was not the montgomery county sheriff, a lawyer, partner in a jenkintown law firm. he told the jury, he was one of two people that controlled that firm's political action

committee, a firm they used to donate to political campaigns. he told the jury the found was used for quote business development and personal reasons. he was he and a business partner who sought to get the attention of the mayor off allentown. in an effort to obtain a valuable city contract for tax collections, he said he and a partner hired lobbyists to arrange the meetings with the mayor. he said after $6,000 had been donated to ed pawlowski's campaign fund and the mayor treated to a steak dinner and eagles playoff game he was informed by a third party his proposal to take over the tax collection looked good and netted him $100,000 and then he steered $10,000 into the campaign coffers of ed pawlowski after pawlowski made the request for the money. he also told the jury when the fbi began raised in 2015 he got a lawyer and cut ties with the firm he was working with.

would think would be the coolest spot right now. they're actually as warm as everybody else in the poconos. at this hour, 35 degrees, not good for the snow. the winds are calm, humidity is 59%. how about wilmington? 43 degrees. we're looking at the feels like 35, northeast wind of 16 and similar conditions in philadelphia, 43 degrees with northeast winds and feels like of 37. gray skies, dreary conditions, this up down up down pattern. we're up now, seen the 50s and 40s and down with the 30s and right back up on thursday near 50 degrees again. get ready for a roller coaster ride. 38 in rochester, 32 for the folks in the north and 45 in pittsburgh. let's go ahead closer for your neighborhood. trenton, 41 degrees.

overnight tonight we won't drop a whole lot. it will be seasonal. 38 in philadelphia, trenton, 29, 29 for all of you. allentown, 21 in dover. stone harbor, right at the freezing mark, 32. we still have light rain showers making their way through the area. they will pick up overnight with this coastal storm winding up through the mid-atlantic area. it will move right past us. as it does so it will leave open a slot of dry time and we see this clipper system come in, not a powerful clipper system and not a lot of cold air to work with. we see the snow but it will melt quickly when it hits the pavement because we've been warm the last couple of days. let's walk you through hour-by-hour. watch the temperatures, winds at the 40s and northeast. overnight winds turn to the north. of course they will get snow, tammy, look at that, you're at

the freezing mark. watch what happens. we warmed a little bit. as the snow comes through, winds turning west-northwest it will be a sloppy snow that will melt on impact. so we're not expecting a huge messy commute. 11:30 in the morning and maybe lingering snow showers and south jersey and jersey shore when we see temperatures dropping. we may actually see our best accumulations on parts of the shore and lehigh valley and poconos. wednesday, temperatures quite cold, only low to mid 30s. look at this. we pick up rain coming our way thursday and into friday. that is super bowl weekend we're heading into. then we clear out. we'll talk more about that super bowl forecast in a few minutes and have your 10 day on den. >> see you then. 10 day on 10. >> if you're hosting a super bowl party, you have a few more things to think about. >> the party plan and problems

the weather team tracking who will see the snow and how much will fall. a live look at allentown where you could see the first snowflakes fall. what's the timing on all this? we know in the morning, right? >> in the morning. you will see it in the poconos, where the temperatures will be cold enough. in philadelphia, not quite as cold and it won't be there until mid-morning. 42 in lehigh valley. 43 in philadelphia and delaware and 43 in south jersey. jersey shore, 40, everybody has cloudy skies and light shower activity. 39 in bedminster. north wales, 40. you get the idea, uniondale, 39, too warm for anything other than perhaps rain at this point. to philadelphia, 42 at parkside.

police say this happened just after 11:00 last night at the new color bar on castor avenue. the victim went outside to smoke when the suspect walked up behind him and cut his throat with a knife. no one has been arrested. a suspect in custody after a group home was set on fire. you can see where it scorched the home on north 15th street last night. six people taken to the hospital, all expected to be okay. it appears someone intentionally set that fire. a community meeting happening to discuss a recent rash of robberies in west philadelphia. state representative vanessa brown is hosting tonight's meeting at the global leadership academy on west gerard avenue and discussing school safety. the meeting runs until 7:00 tonight. nbc responds reporter harry harrison helps you get ready for the unexpected as you gear up

this is nbc10 news. ♪ >> not your average first day of school by any means. nbc10 in west philadelphia where four undocumented children received hugs and encouragement as they headed to class. they spent the last six weeks at

a local church after their family received deportation orders. >> explaining why heading to school is such a risk for these kids. >> reporter: before they started their day extra early. they'd been getting ready well before dawn for their first day of school leaving this church for the first time since december 13th. >> no child should live in fear about their safety or what may happen to them on their way to doing what every child should be able to do, go to school, learn and study, make friends, be joyous. >> reporter: all four have deportation orders. they decided getting an education is greater than the risk. >> it is a risk the mother takes because she believes her children have a fundamental right to get an education and won't let that stand in the way. >> reporter: the beginning was far from a normal day.

light snow tomorrow as the secondary system comes through, primarily in the morning for philadelphia, maybe south jers sin the afternoon. then we will do through a cold warm cold spell and we could see snow on friday. again, on sunday. we will be all over the place with this forecast. we do have the light rain making its way through the area. this is a coastal storm system that will pass by in the next six hours or so. we get a break and on the backside of it comes the clipper system moving out of the upper great lakes and that ushers in cold and light snow. we're not expecting much of anything except a coating, maybe on grassy areas you see wind in some places. watch the numbers as they go down. tomorrow morning you will say, wow, look at that. it's below freezing.

watch what happens. we bounce back up. as it approaches we get snow in lehigh valley and chester county and temperatures go up northwest and why we will see snow that melts on impact and the ground is warm after such a mild weekend. wind to the north but too little too late so we may get a coating along the jersey shore as well. wednesday cold day as well and we rebound for thursday. here comes rain with another system thursday night changing over to a rain-snow mix and early friday morning we could be dealing with snow on the road. that one is worth watching and could give us more of a coating and we clear out by friday night. let's head to the twin cities. friday night, temperature a toasty warm, wind chill, 3 below zero. they could see snow drifting in with a system on saturday and

police couldn't say how it was on the street where moms were taking their children to school. >> just speaking to police, joining us live in south philadelphia with the latest information, sidney. >> reporter: i can tell you the police commissioner made this year. this was a violent attack on his off-duty officer and he has concern about the discharge of this weapon, not so much the number of shots fired but the totality of the incident. when a reckless driver struck a pedestrian at broad and big ler streets this morning, the commissioner said it was intentional. police reviewing the surveillance images along with witness interviews that tell the story of a good samaritan charged after blocking that suspect's charge. that's when an off-duty officer who identified himself telling the suspect to drop to the pavement was attacked by that
