falling into the afternoon. our first alert team of meteorologists is tracking the snow. let's start with glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> this is the type of snow that some people enjoy the most because there's not a lot of wind with it and it melts as it hits, that's for the most part. this is a live picture in reading. we do have some fresh snow on the surfaces from the memorial penn fire tower and this is our normal picture obviously obscured because of the snow, butd fact th but the fact we can see across the river suggests it's not nearly as heavy as it can get sometimes. you'll see a little bit lighter snow already taking place north and west of our area. that drier air will be coming down as we go through the afternoon, and the darker blues indicate where the heavier snow bands are. so as we were talking yesterday,
11:02 am
they tend to line up in north/south bands, but as long as the band shifts, nobody really gets nailed with some tremendously heavy snow. let's go into bucks county, you can see over buckingham, war minister getting some of that heavier snow right now, just a couple miles on either side there isn't that much. this is the southern portion of that band into south jersey. hammondton right in it now, waterford in if. but just a little bit to the west it is just much, much lighter. and over philadelphia, we continue to see some snow, a little bit more in -- right near the delaware river and across into cherry hill than what we're seeing in other parts of the area. as we go through the afternoon hour by hour, this area snow is going to shift toward the shore,
11:03 am
move out and move away. and now the critical thing with the temperatures, meteorologist crystal is outside to check on that. >> reporter: yeah, glenn you said for some people this is their favorite type of snow, myself included. it's really pretty, the winds are light so you can see it floating down in front of me. if i step out of the camera here and you look behind me the roadways are just wet. the snow is melting once it hits the ground. the temperature is still is our friend regardless, especially if those bands, we do sees visibility down just a tick. it's about one .5 miles in philadelphia,al len town at a mile, but it was about melville down to three miles as well. temperatures is our friend a lot of these numbers are just barely above freezing. so you get the pretty snow but it's not sticking anywhere. i'm looking over at the grass and even that has started to see

the melt as it hits the grass. there's a look at the temperature trend as we start to trend into the rest of the day, we stay right around the freezing point and the winds tick up tonight. so it will start to feel colder than it actually is. that will help with no worries of black ice this evening. we'll talk more about what to expect, a few more shots of snow in the future coming up in just a bit. >> all right. we'll see you then, crystal. we know the snow isn't sticking to the roads but it's still slick out there. jessica boyington is standing by. jess. >> watching places that we are starting to see some snow accumulate in some areas, and mainly what i mean by that is off into the shoulders and the grassy areas. the roads are not even really being covered right now. at least what we can see in part of these cameras. lehigh valley 78 around lehigh street both directions doing just fine. not a ton of accidents being reported because it's not that bad out there but it's something to watch for on and off ramps as well.
