11:19 am
he -- i was going to be in town and just asked him it's really not saturday night, it's saturday morning at a team meeting. so he's just going to stop by the hotel and visit with the guys for a few minutes saturday morning. >> doug, happy birthday. >> thank you. >> talking to a couple of your players yesterday they said this is maybe one of the best groups they've been around, plays with and they said it starts with you and how genuine you are. would you describe this group of players and the way they play for each other and how together they are up there with maybe one of the best groups you've been around in your career as a player and coach? >> first of all i appreciate that coming from them. that does mean a lot to me as a head football coach standing in front of them every single day. and, you know, getting them to -- that was the challenge i had two years ago was, you know, being the new head coach and getting them to buy into what i was sort of preaching and selling. and they've done that.
11:20 am
and, you know, i think my relationship with the players and having been in the dressing room for 14 years and been on some -- a couple super bowl teams myself, i can relate to the players. and that's -- you know, that's just not talk. that's something that's real and yet there's a -- there is a fine line, though. you still have to maintain head coach status and make sure that, you know, the guys are doing exactly what you ask them to do and they've done that. and i can appreciate the effort that these guys have put into not only last season but this season, not only for me but for themselves and how well they've committed to each other. they've trusted the process, they've bought in and, you know, here we are today. >> yeah, doug, the extra down time before the game and at halftime for the super bowl often is a difficult adjustment for players. how do you prepare them for that this week? >> well, it is a long time
11:21 am
pregame and halftime and i've begun conversations with our players preparing them for it. you know, and it's just -- you just can't -- you know, a lot of guys have a certain routine, especially in pregame that they want to do. and because of the time it's just hard to get exactly what they want to get done. i mean, it's just -- it's long, you know, from the time we exit the field to the time, you know, the ball's kicked off is, you know, is roughly 40 minutes. so we got some time in there. but i've continued -- we'll continue the conversations, prep the guys for it and do the best we can to handle it when we get to sunday. >> doug, how would you describe celebrating your 50th birthday in this setting and other than a super bowl, what most would you want? >> well, obviously it's -- it's a great day not only because of my birthday, you know, my wife
11:22 am
is here and my familiar little be in here later in the week. to be able to celebrate this with them and, you know, with the team and to be in this game, obviously, is an honor. you know, if somehow we can -- we can pull out a victory, that would be the icing on the cake, as they say. >> doug, ed warner, left center here. i wanted to ask you, your staff has described you being a fearless play caller even though you're relatively new to that role. how do you see yourself in that regard and will it be difficult to maintain that sort of reputation in a game of this magnitude? >> i hope i can maintain it because that's kind of what got us here, you know. and, you know, fearless or not, i mean, i trust my staff. there's a lot of collaboration that goes on during the games, it's not just -- it's not just me calling plays. there's a lot of conversation, a lot of dialogue that's kind of behind the scenes that, you know, gives me confidence in
11:23 am
some of the decisions that i make. ultimately, they're my calls and my decisions, so i take full responsibility there, but it's a team effort. and, you know, i approach each game the same. i'm going to try to stay as aggressive as possible, you know, be smart, put our players in, you know, successful positions and try to maintain that. so, you know, i hope this game doesn't change that. >> doug, the last time you coached against belichick was when you were with kansas city, the offensive coordinator in that playoff game. i was wondering what it was like preparing for coaching against him as well as like what kind of things, you know, did you learn from that game, you know, especially like the last drive when you guys took like a lot of time to score and everything. >> thanks for bringing that back up. appreciate that. >> you're welcome. happy birthday by the way. >> well, you definitely have to -- you have to be -- it's
11:24 am
like what we've done this week. your preparation is to the enth degree. you have to study every situation and understand how they're going to attack you and how we can attack them. the biggest takeaway really from that game was the turnovers. we obviously had turnovers in that game and against good opponents and quality teams. and a quarterback like toum can't gi -- tom you can't give them that many opportunities. we got behind early and just never recovered. it's something that i'll remember that game, obviously, moving forward and, you know, but you got to play for 60 minutes. you got to play a full ball game against these guys. >> over here, coach. what was your impresses of matt nagy when you worked with him in philadelphia and kansas and how well do you think he's going to do as the bears new head coach? >> he's going to do extremely well. he's another one that's played,
11:25 am
he's played the quarterback position, he's at delaware and had some success, obviously, you know, after college. and, you know, he's another one that really -- he gets the player. he understands the player, he listens to the player, and that's the thing that they're going to see in chicago with him is those types of things. he's a smart -- he's a smart coach. you know, he can game plan, can he put plans together, and he's going to listen to his staff. he's going to assemble his staff that they're going to do some good things. and, you know, it's just a matter of getting them now on the same page, much like i was a year ago, and just believe in what matt is saying. he's going to do really well there. >> doug, in the middle here. >> you've been listening to eagles head coach doug pederson talk to reporters in minneapolis at the mall of america. and one of those reporters you heard from was john clark talking to coach pederson about the bond he has going into this

plane he has to face down those bean town fans and their air began afghanistan. he even found this collage last time in his office featuring other winning boston teams. >> it starts on the airplane. so i travel up there on tuesday typically and come back on friday. when i went up last tuesday, anyone wearing an eagles hat going up theres with being ribd. so it was just like a very funny on the airplane environment. and then coming back was the same environment coming back on friday night, people were literally debating on the plane. >> funny, not funny. let's hope the birds give him a reason to be a little smug when he heads to boston next week. speak of which we want to take you back to that conference happening out in minneapolis mall of the america. nick foles speaking to reporters. >> doug says that brett farve is going to come out and speak to the team on saturday morning. what will that mean to you and what are your thoughts about brett growing up watching him? >> you know, he's one of the greatest ever to plate game and just his style of play, his
11:34 am
toughness, he is a true gunslinger, just, you know, rocket arm, can throw it from any which angle. off his back foot he can throw it anywhere he wants. and he's been there, he's won the big games, he's won gig bams. he played a lot a lot of football. anytime you have an opportunity to listen to someone like him speak, it's huge. so i can't wait to listen to what wisdom and knowledge he gives us. i know everyone on our team will be excited to hear him speak. >> reporter: your run pass options have been a huge part of your success the last couple of games. could you explain why they've been so effective? >> i think the big thing is it's a piece of our offense and you all probably don't even know, a lot of times y'all might think it's a run pass option, it might not be. there's different ways of doing it. i know it's the big thing this year is run pass option but it's been around for a while. it's just a piece of our offense and i think the big thing is the execution. our guys up front understanding the blocking scheme, me understanding who i'm reading,
11:35 am
what affects the play, our receivers understand their routes, adjustments, what they're looking for. when everyone's on the same page and have knowledge at ha they're doing, you compete at a high level and it adds that piece of offense that's hard to defense but once again, it's a piece of what we do. >> next down here. >> it seems like just looking at the numbers and watching you guys this year that you go for it on fourth down quite a bit. how much confidence does that instill in the offense to be that aggressive? >> a lot of confidence. coach pederson is an aggressionsive play caller and that shows with how many times we've gone for it on fourth and short. and, you know, he has confidence in our entire offense to execute and our oh line to get that penetration and get the first down in those situations. for to us have a med coach that's that aggressive, i love playing for a coach like that. >> nick, down here. given that it's your second stent in philadelphia, you know a lot about the city now and the people and the fans. have you thought about what it
11:36 am
would mean to the city to finally win a super bowl and for you to be the one to help bring it? >> you know, i haven't really thought in too much detail about it because i'm just staying in the moment. we have to earn that right. we have to prepare, we have to lay this game, the game hasn't been played yet so we have a lot of work. trust me, i know what it means to the city. i know what it means to us. there's bane lot there's been a lot of hard work. weaver going against a great opponent and we have a lot of work to go out there and compete on sunday and i look forward to that. but i know philadelphia's all behind us. i know they will be here cheering loud and i'm excited to see them cheering in the stands and bringing energy for us. >> nick, here in the center. before the championship game case keenum felt about the relationship that you guys have had. up until this point have you talked to him after the nfc championship game heading into the super bowl and what type of impact has he had on your career up to this point? >> case and i were together, we went to work every single day. we're both from texas. we knew of each other in
11:37 am
college, obviously case had probably the gracest college career out of any quarterback. threw for a billion yards and tons of touchdowns, really impressive. but going to work with him every day and seeing his work ethic, a guy that no one gave a shot but i always believed him. i got to see him work first hand. nothing he's done this year surprised me. i'm really excited about what he's doing and his opportunity going forward. and it was fun obviously getting to compete against him in the nfc championship game. but his impact on me was just seeing his work ethic and how he grinded every single morning till night and just ache part of that -- being a part of that and to see him push through because there's no reason to doubt case keenum. he's a stud quarterback and he proved that this year. you've been listening to nick foles talk to the report at the mall of america 'minneapolis. he talked about how he knows exactly what it would mean for the city of philadelphia, for the team to win the super bowl. he says a lot of hard work has come into play to get them to
