and spruce streets when a hail of gunshots pierced through his patrol car. three of those struck the officer who was actually able to return fire. aundrea cline-thomas is in court right now getting reaction. she'll have a live report at 6:00. before then, let's get a check of your forecast. you got to be ready for a rainy night. you can already see the system moving in right there. >> here's the view from center city at 8th and market streets. that rain is going to turn into snow tomorrow morning. but it won't last too long. tammie souza is tracking the forecast for your neighborhood. some spotty showers in the pennsylvania suburbs. and all of this is going to start to transition across philadelphia and south jersey in the next couple hours. you can see the heaviest showers from the polk knows down through allentown and reading. not quite philadelphia yet.

but there's a whole lot more in the pipeline just off to the south and the west of us. you can see some of it already transitionsing into a rain and snow mix. even a little bit of snow. now as temperatures drop, we're going to see that happen here. right now, we're in the 40s with the south wind. this is going to be all rain until after midnight. then we'll see a in the valley. watch these numbers as they start to drop. 38 in philly. 34 in allentown. 39 in morris river. very quickly by 5:00 in the morning, we're down just above freezing in philadelphia. so a wet, heavy snow is very possible. and the temperatures still are in those above freezing marks across south jersey. it's already fallen below freezing in allentown, potstown, what's going to happen is anything on the ground may turn icy overnight. truly cold air comes in after that. however, anything on the ground

might freeze. that's something you need to be aware of. when i come back, we're going to talk about your saturday and your super bowl sloshy weather around here in philadelphia. >> philadelphia is moving closer to phasing out cash bail. the council voted unanimously to support eliminating the practice arguing it unfairly targets people with low incomes. the attorney's office responded by saying it's already reviewing how it can reduce the number of people sitting in jail awaiting trial on low level or nonviolent offenses. >> either someone is a danger to themselves or to society or they are not. holding people for ransom doesn't make safer by using cash bail. >> the city has to figure out how far it cogo without a change in pennsylvania state law. new jersey already overhauled its bail program reducing jail population by 20%. the fbi is now joining the investigation into a deadly police-involved shooting in south philadelphia. investigators say 23-year vet

james powell was off duty when he shot and killed the driver accused of attacking him and intentionally hitting a pedestrian on monday. the driver was from virginia and died at the hospital. the pedestrian is okay. right now, to the flu crisis. new numbers out today show 65 people have died from the flu in pennsylvania. three have died in delaware and one person has died in new jersey. health experts say if you haven't gotten the flu shot, you before it's too late. >> local hospitals are taking precautions during the brutal flu season. medical staff were wearing masks to protect themselves. doctors there say they have diagnosed 8 flu-related cases. montgomery county says seven people have died from flu complications. >> you know your kids. you know how they behave and act and how they are when they are

>> and a little bit of sunshine in the twin cities. they have sunshine on the u.s. bank stadium. äqrj bitterly cold. the temperature is 6 degrees. it feels like 9 below sozero wi the wind out of the west at 12 miles per hour. they are not really going to warm up at all. 45 degree. s, feels like 42 for us. those winds are calm. we're going to see rain transitioning to snow and early tomorrow morning. it could be a quick burst of snow overa one-hour period or so. and we could see the temperatures fall so quickly we get some icy roads during tomorrow morning's commute. so be aware of that. then we see a cold blast that starts coming in tomorrow and saturday is a terrifically cold day. on sunday we could start as snow and rain and wind up with sthoe. but it's going to be a soggy day on sunday. and that's not good if you're heading out to watch the super bowl.

not good travel weather at all around philadelphia. so we have some showers now mainly in the the lehigh valley up into the mopoconos. a little bit of a mix. this is part of a storm system making its way through west virginia. it's going to be hours of this to get here. on the backside, very cold air. clear skies in the twin cities. and it's that cold california nad yan air that's rushing in behind this system. let's take you hour by hour. we are looking at the 40s. 40s will be with us until midnight. we'll see rain here in the area. but look at this. they have fallen down into the 30s in the poconos and lehigh valley. that will transition into a rain/mix. you can get snow, but it's a wet snow. and look at this.

for them. we're coming to you live in minneapolis. just one black away from u.s. bank stadium. the nfl experience is popular for fans. jim and i stopped by there today. mine didn't look quite as believable. we ran into the family from princeton, new jersey. a portion of the family moved to canada, but they remain die hard eagles fans. it was not even a question for them to make the trip to minneapolis. >> we were carrying the eagles fans all week here waiting for them to arrive. there haven't been many. there's a lot of patriots fans. >> how will it feel if you come in here and see an eagles super bowl ring in the nfl experience. >> i expect it, so i'm pumped. >> that's the right attitude. >> exactly.

snow by 7:00. that's when we drop below freezing. the pennsylvania suburbs go from rain to snow at 3:00 in the morning. and anything on the road could freeze out there. 27 waking up in the pennsylvania suburbs. 37 in the lehigh valley. 34 with snow at 3:00 in the morning. 25 at 7:00 in the morning. you're getting the idea that we drop below freezing. so any of this rain which turns to quick snow is is going to flash freeze. 30 in the delaware valley. we're looking at 29 in new jersey. take it easy tonight. i'll have your ten-day in just a couple minutes. guilty on all counts. that's the decision a jury handed down within the hour against edward archer a man charged in an ambush style attack against a philadelphia police officer. we have learned that archer will be sentenced on may 14th. officer jesse hearth net and his family cried as prosecutors presented their closing arguments. the video of the ambush and the

radio calls were replayed for the jury today. they reminded the jury of a taped confession who pledged his allegiance to isis after the shooting. the parents of a former penn state student are sharing a personal message one year after their son's hazing death. a year ago tomorrow, timothy piazza died after consuming large amounts of chool. his parents hope to work with other advocates to prevent hazing deaths. here's a look at the stories make iing headlines county by county across the region. bucks county, a warning for police about a phoney water authority worker. police believe a man drive iing this white unmarked van may have been looking to rob or case houses in south hampton. he told them to go check it.

luckily they threatened to call police. he took off. authorities say an actual bucks county water authority looks like the picture on the right side of your screen. it has identification on the side. how about this? a wig wearing woman strikes again. new jersey police have linked her to several break ins in toms river. also in other parts of the area stealing purses, cash and stolen checks. now they believe they are trying to cash those checks. she's worn different colored wigs in each case. they have had several tips but haven't found her. philadelphia police are looking for the man seen in these surveillance images in connection with an assault. a man pulled her to the ground. the victim is expected to be okay. if you recognize the man. call police. lawmakers are moving forward with legislation aimed at addressing the squatter problem. the council introduced a bill to

in. we have rain in the lehigh valley. rains and a rain/snow mix. you can see the pennsylvania suburbs is just starting to edge in to the upper suburbs. so this very elongated storm system hours to go before it really fully moves across the area. the cold air coming in behind bringing some snow across parts of the tennessee valley. look at the twin cities. clear skies. that is cold arctic air that is rushing in there for tonight. they are going go well below zero. let's take a look at ours. we're in the 40s. we'll be in the 40s at midnight. look at this. we transition to some wet snow in the lehigh valley. and the poconos for all of you there temperatures will fall below freezing. then the moisture is going to outrun it by 4:00 in the morning. here in philadelphia, right near freezing, we could see a little snow. a quick pop of snow is out of here. we're talking about an hour of snow and then it's gone and temperatures fall quickly into that freezing zone. and that's why we're worried

driving here to the greater minneapolis area. you might be surprised to know there are a number of eagles fans that live right here in minnesota. today as we walked around the mall of america talking to eagles fan, we bumped into one man who has a very special emotional tie to philadelphia. it's because of his experience there in our city. >> reporter: he made the trip from minnesota to children's hospital in tld. his then 3-year-old daughter needed a heart translant. he left home a vikings fan and returned a member of eagles nation. >> all the sports teams are so involved, it's one of the most amazing hospitals out there. >> reporter: a heavy dose of brotherly love for jim and sisterly affection for his daughter turned them into an eagles fan for life. his daughter is now 12. their philadelphia experience is the emotional bond that ties them to philly. >> philadelphia is the most beautiful, loving
