minneapolis area. you might be surprised to know there are a number of eagles fans that live right here in minnesota. today as we walked around the mall of america talking to eagles fan, we bumped into one man who has a very special emotional tie to philadelphia. it's because of his experience there in our city. >> reporter: he made the trip from minnesota to children's hospital in tld. his then 3-year-old daughter needed a heart translant. he left home a vikings fan and returned a member of eagles nation. >> all the sports teams are so involved, it's one of the most amazing hospitals out there. >> reporter: a heavy dose of brotherly love for jim and sisterly affection for his daughter turned them into an eagles fan for life. his daughter is now 12. their philadelphia experience is the emotional bond that ties them to philly. >> philadelphia is the most beautiful, loving city you can

ever visit. >> reporter: mike fwru up in arizona and now lives in minnesota and he's never been to philadelphia. yet he's one of the biggest birds fans we met today with his entire family wearing black, green and gray. >> we're going to bring it home this time. >> reporter: while he left his home for the land of 10,000 lakes in minnesota, today at the mall of america he's surrounded by eagles fans and feels right at home. >> it's like you see eagles fans and get jacked up. >> eagles fans are making minnesota their own. minneapolis still a city nursing from an embarrassing beatdown two weeks ago when the eagles destroyed the vikings. eagles fans say they are being

treated well. finding the cold north. >> enjoy yourself. it's not a hostile environment. i can't wait to get you because we're going to take home a championship. >> so certainly that's what vikings fans want eagles fans to know. you are welcome here in the city. i can tell you just firsthand from the moment i set foot here in minneapolis last night, i experienced nothing but the nicest and kindest people. they are extending a very big welcome to fans to come here and have a good time. even some said they hope to win a super bowl on sunday. for now, we're live at the mall of america, nbc 10 news. >> if they do find out you're from philadelphia, you might get a little ribbing, but it's done in a minnesota nice kind of way. . i was talking to a family from omaha. the whole family came from omaha because they are eagles fans. they don't even have tickets to the game. they wanted to experience this whole thing. let's talk about the players. if for a lot of them, this is the biggest game of their lives.

>> hundreds of millions will be watching this game around the world. but at the end of the day, they have to keep their cool. >> john clark is joining us from bloomington right now. eagles talked about that feeling when it comes to playing on the game's biggest stage. is is he keeping it cool? >> absolutely. just wanted to update you on the bug that's going around the eagles. tim missed practice yesterday. we're not sure if he missed again today but a few of the other eagles under the weather 24-hour cold it looks like they were back at practice today. you were talking about nick foles. take a look at him practicing. we are just day was from the biggest game of his life. if you ask any of his teammate asks former teammates, what is the best word to describe nick foles. they say chill. so i had to ask nick foles today. how do you stay so chill and especially during super bowl week. how are you going to remain that calm.

the message from his classmates. >> but for now, back to erin coleman at the nbc 10 studios. >> we are following breaking news here at home. the man charged with ambushing and shooting a philadelphia police officer is guilty on all counts. aundrea cline-thomas has been in the courtroom all day she joins us now live. >> we talked to jesse heartnet. he did not know the jury would agree. i watched as the family held hands as the jury read the guilty verdict. video of the ambush was replayed over and over again for that jury. prosecutors even brought a panel of the patrol car riddled with bullets. the jury watched a taped police interview where he pledged his allegiance toist. he received an order to shoot the officer. after two hours of deliberations, they found edward archer guilty on all charges

meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is timing it all out for us. >> we already have radar echoes in southeast of pennsylvania. most of that is not reaching the ground. it is reaching the ground into kentucky. there's enough moisture to be producing rain. we're going to see widespread rain across the area. everybody should have the umbrellas ready for tonight. later tonight, the cold r air starts coming down from the nolt and west and we can change that rain to snow. and the darker blues indicate we could get some bursts of snow and that could cause slippery driving for awhile. everything is moving so fast it's going to be out of here by 8:00 a.m. across the area. we'll talk more about what to

expect with this and the soaker coming up. the university of pennsylvania is cutting ties with casino mo gull and removing his name from buildings on campus. this comes in the wake of sexual assault allegations aimed at the billionaire businessman. the school is also revoking his honorary degree and removing his name from a scholarship fund established by a donation from him. scholarships will continue to be awarded. in montgomery county, police reviewing video showing a man installing a skimming device at the cash register in a popular supermarket. watch the vid e owe of the man is in the checkout line like he's paying for groceries, but police say he's actually involved in the skimming scamp. the skimmer is usually a hidden device that steals your credit card information. police are looking for two men involved. next on nbc 10, fighting through a little eagles fan from

all that out for us. it's so cold here that the concert at super bowl live has been delayed because the audio equipment is is literally frozen. they have to unfreeze it. that's how cold it is here. >> i can't imagine trying to play a trumpet or trombone with below zero temperatures. it would not be very fun at all. we have some wet weather tonight. rain and it started raining in allentown and there's more coming. a lot of this leading edge not reaching the ground, but all this stuff is. on the cold side, it is snow. so this would start as rain. as we go through the evening, it becomes widespread. and then it's changing over to snow towards the very early part of the morning rush. changing ♪ in south jersey and delaware. the darker colors indicating it could be coming down hard for a

period of time like an hour or two. a little accumulation. then you have snow flakes falling on top of snow flakes so the warmer ground has less of an impact here and you can even get slippery roads with temperatures a little bit above freezing. then we just get plain windy and cold. the rest of the day friday, friday night into saturday what's going to feel like near zero saturday morning in some spots. and then e we wait for the next system and the storm coming in for super bowl sunday could start off as snow. you see the colder temperatures. and then warmer air rushes up from the south. . change it is to rain and we have a rainy super bowl evening all across the area. coming up, john clark goes one-on-one with malcolm jenkins and doug pederson explains more next.
