11:04 am
slipping all over the place. in belmont i had a car over on the should they're was an emergency vehicle helping them and got right out of the way. this is the eastbound side of schuylkill. what we've been seeing is the trend that we've been seeing for most of the morning is people are slipping on the on and off ramp, we had a few overturned vehicles. the roads for the mast part are okay, even with those slippery spots are you but also watching the brimds. we're in in the process of acau schedule for 11:05 and there's an overturned truck on the new jersey turnpike southbound side, exit 6. if you're hiding southbound right now take get you by the scene. back to you. >> you can track all the changing conditions in your neighborhood with the free nbc 10 app. you can check the first alert interactive radar and s the wintry mix will be out of

11:07 am
their regional rail trains tomorrow to be filled to capacity. to so people who have an independence day pass or have a weekly or monthly septa pass ne. what is septa saying? they're best advice to you is if you can get to the market-frankford or the broad street line because not other those lines free, but they're running throughout the day as opposed to regional rail early regional rail service will stop during the parade and ceremony. one final note, we just got word from the city that all municipal offices will be closed tomorrow because of the celebration. >> everybody's going to be there at the s at broad and pattison at 11:00 tomorrow morning. then it heads up broad street to the city hall, goes around the west side of city hall, left on jfk boulevard, right on 16th. finally it makes its way down the ben franklin parkway ending

11:11 am
philadelphia. >> no, we going slow it down. we're going to take insome time off and then we're back to offseason work out. we're going to stay on it because we're going to be chasing that feeling again. >> reporter: graham said it was hard to go to the grocery store because everybody mobbed him. he said it was pretty cool to see everybody so appreciative for what they did. some guys said they're going to go out and buy go pro cameras because they want to tlord tomorrow just like we all do. this is something they too will remember for the rest of their lives. coming up at noon doug pederson is going to have one final news conference as well. we're live at the nova care conference where our faces still hurt from smiling. nbc 10 news. >> this is history and we're all getting to taste a little piece of it. coming up in a few minutes, eagles insider dave spadaro will join me to talk about the big plays and the future of this franchise. then at 11:30 see how some of

11:13 am
11:14 am
11:15 am
right now stocks are higher on wall street and trading appears to be more stable compared to the past two wild days. you're looking live right now at the new york stock exchange big board and you can see stock 365, 367. yesterday it fluctuated back and forth and came back strong before the close on monday, the dow suffered its biggest single point drop in history. >> announcer: now your nbc 10 first alert weather. well, we have quite a variety of weather conditions across the area and it will become more extreme through the afternoon. it's snowing like crazy in the poconos mountains and they're going to get probably at least 6 inches total from this storm. and meanwhile, this philly international delays. more delays all through the
11:16 am
afternoon despite the fact that it's going to be just rain in philadelphia rather than ice or snow. 34 now, temperatures above freezing, it's going to stay above freezing. same story in delaware, above freezing but in many of our suburbs we still have lower temperatures, precipitation is coming down, and that is in the form of ice or snow. you can see how dry it is for now in delaware and south jersey, but there's plenty of moisture that's ready to come back. and this rain/snow line coming up to the north, this area in pink is ice, freezing rain, or sleet. it's now reaching up toward reading and bethlehem are whereit was not owher -- where it was not one hour ago. norristown, near that line, war minister getting into the rain now, north hampton, buckingham,
11:17 am
new britain still in the house as well as hatfield. but everything is moving to the north, including the warmer air. and there's plenty of moisture back to the west so the we're not done byny means with this precipitation. by noontime this yellow and orange color, that is heavier rain and so not only will rain come back, it will get heavier. the temperatures, though, will continue to warm up. there's 40 degrees in philadelphia this afternoon and there's this model showing 52 while it's still only 35 in allentown. how about that for a difference. and 58 in dover. we're close to 60 degrees but it's still barely above freezing in allentown. then later this evening it the move towards the shore, getting heavy rain there by later this afternoon. and then we finally dry out tonight with temperatures going down. we're at 32 in blue bell and
11:18 am
coatesville now, lancaster temperatures gradually going up, 32 in reading. and so that is going to improve. we still have colder weather at leonardsville, fleetwood, americastown, ma kun gee, white hal, and they're going to continue to have problems throughout the afternoon. the only problem for the parade is the cold, it's going to feel very chilly as we go through the day tomorrow. and then we're dry friday and more on the weekend. more on that coming up. nick foles and the philly special are part of the magic that led to our super bowl championship. we're talking to dave spa dario abo -- spadaro that made the difference on sunday and how it may be passing from the patriots to the eagles. that's coming up. cung
11:19 am
11:20 am
11:21 am
. it's the eagles play that
11:22 am
shocked everybody, the philly special. now we know nick foles actually came up with the idea to run it on that critical fourth and goal of the second quarter in the final minute of the half. take a look. >> you want philly coach? >> yeah, let's do it. >> philly special, ready? here we go. here we go. >> oh my goodness, from there he sells the play like it's business as usual. we got this. tightend trey burton the former high school quarterback floats it to nick foles for the play that defined the super bowl. i could watch that over and over and over again. joining me now is philadelphia eagles insider dave spadaro. >> i probably will watch that over and over again. >> this was so fun to watch. the eagles worked on this play, they called. philly special. we just found out it was nick foles's idea to run that. >> the coaches -- to doug's in communication with the coaches in the booth. >> okay. >> and they discussed it, they
11:23 am
draw up the red zone package and they had discussed doing philly special prior. so it was a collaborative thing. coaches had that on the menu but nick came out and said let's do it. and they did it perfectly. >> does that show what you kind of coach doug pederson is prosecutor a collaborative coach and what does that mean? >> first of all he has input and takes it seriously and values it from his coaching staff. number two, he's obviously not averse to taking this massive risk in the chris cal point in the first half on the gon line, fourth down. and then the third part that's cool, trey burton was a high school quarterback and a college quarterback at the university of florida and doug takes the talent of his players and uses them to the yutmost. and it's that flexibility to be really versatile is the trademark of this football team. and they have gone through so much this year and here we are in the midst of the greatest week in the history of
11:24 am
philadelphia. >> so does nick foles's mvp status, i'm hearing a lot of buzz about this. does this make him trade -- >> i mean, they'll discuss that. there's a lot of time to talk about that, erin. i think that the eagles in a great situation with quarterback. they've got carson wentz. they've got the mvp of the super bowl. they've got nate sudfeld who only a few weeks ago people were wondering if maybe he would play in the playoffs if nick foles struggled. if you remember at the end of the season a panic in the streets about the eagles offense. these are questions that everybody has. they will be answered in time. eagles are in a very enviable situation at the quarterback position, three deep with some good tal zblent where does doug pederson's talent as coach rank him basically in coaches for all sports here? >> well, look, we all see what is happening in the city of philadelphia. the eagles win the super bowl and the city goes berserk. i think doug pederson vaults to number one. he's the one that won the first super bowl in the city's
11:25 am
history, the franchise's history in year number two. and here's the thing about doug. when he was hired, he was mocked. he was seen as the yes man. he was -- his credentials were very seriously questioned and two years later he's the coach who delivered the super bowl to the city of philadelphia. >> after decades he's the 1 that brought it home. >> yeah. >> he's got such a great story. >> erin, honestly, from day one till now he's never changed. all these injuries, all these hard times, he's always been upbeat. he's very inclusive. he talks about ownership on the football team and that's why every player on the roster felt like they could contribute and play that way. >> our team is still younger. carson wentz hasn't played in a playoff game, pederson is a younger coach in the game. has the torch kind of been passed now from the patriots to the eagles? >> the patriots are still going to be good. the eagles should be a competitive team. but the thing about the nfl that makeit that you never know.
11:26 am
the eagles were going to be favored in all these power rankings, but number 12 looked good to me on sunday and threw for 500 yards and the patriots retain their offensive coordinator. in the nfc east there's been no repeat back-to-back winner since 2003/2004. so eag vls to first get back to the top of the nfc before we talk about -- let's just enjoy the parade tomorrow and be safe out there everybody. well, you may have lived the post super bowl celebrations, but now you can see it in a whole new way. the moment caught on camera has thousands filled philadelphia streets.
11:27 am
11:28 am
11:29 am
mertzto . >> announcer: now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> know, ice, and rain. a wintery mix is making it's way
11:30 am
across the region. this is in the poconos where you can see that snow coming down. nbc 10 at villanova university as a worker salted sidewalks in an attempt to keep them ice free. but cars, no match for the ice. quickly becoming coated there. students, though, still found a way to make it to classes. someone will get a good work out scraping this thick layer of ice from this car parked in ardmore today. you can see almost completely coated there. the weather alternated between rain, freezing rain and rain this morning. let's go to glenn to see where this system is. >> it will take a while before it clears out, it will take a while before the precipitation ends. if you don't have to go anywhere today and scrape the ice off your car, the atmosphere is going to warm up enough to melt it by the end of the day. nothing melting in the poconos, the snow's coming down hard.
11:31 am
and we continue to see cloudy skies over at the beach and they're going to keep getting warmer and warmer. we have airport delays, an hour in philadelphia, two hours in newark, new jersey spot keep th -- so keep that in mind if you have any plans of getting out of here. we still have snow and ice to the north. rainy and milder afternoon and cold and dry for the parade. this area of snow in the blue is moving to the north as expected, so is the rain, snow -- rain and ice line here now in pottstown we're still in the icing. but coatesville getting into the just rain. abington in just rain, hatfield just on the edge here. allentown has now changed from snow to ice. allentown and amayous. and we still have snow of course
11:32 am
in the mountains. westchester, just rain. and in the philadelphia area, we have a bit of a break but there's plenty of moisture back to the west that is going to be moving in this afternoon. as you can see, this is some very heavy rain. we're not going to be drying out until tonight. more on that and the next storm on the way coming up. this weather is having an impact on the roads. nbc 10 first alert traffic boje boyington is watching that. >> reports have just cleared this accident out of the way. i was checking for delay on the northbound side. for the most part we see emergency vehicles heading towards the scene or leefgt scene. he we are watching that a little bit because there's slippery spots everywhere. we see these quick accidents and they kind of are cleared quickly. also a major accident in pots town, 422 westbound blocked at hammer boulevard with an
11:33 am
accident and an overturned truck out in mancefield township. this is the new jersey turnpike near the pa turnpike, exit 6. if you want to avoid some of that delay take 295 to get by the scene. the brimgs, we had an earlier opening for the bristol. now it's under the palmyra. that's set for 11:50. for then take the betsy ross bridge to get by. back to you. well, this time tomorrow fans will be celebrating the eagles super bowl win at the parade of champions. now we just have to figure out how to get into the city because spots on septa trains are getting harder to come by. katy zachry has the latest on those search for tickets. >> reporter: we're talking about regional rail passes and regional trains are running early to bring everyone into philadelphia. the scramble is after these.
11:34 am
independence one day passes. you need one of these or a septa weekly or monthly pass to get on a train. take a look behind me because here at 30th street station the septa counter here swuchis one e few rail stations that has these passes available. and septa has made more passes available four. once this last batch goes, there are no more available. take a look at our video. we met one very passionate eagles fan today john higgins. he told us he has gone the distance to get his hands on these passes. he was up at 4:00 a.m. went to two local stations where passes were sold to the people in front of him. he hopped a train, came over to center city and 30th station and this is where he bought, get this, 30 of these independence passes for family and friends. he assured me they will be on the first regional rail train that runs tomorrow out of bucks county to make sure they get into the city. >> it's just been a crazy day
11:35 am
and the way i look i just threw some clothes on this morning because i knew the bad weather was coming. but it's, you know, it's fun. can't wait till tomorrow. i just hope we're able to get on the train tomorrow. >> reporter: and that's a very real concern for people. even septa says that regional rail trains will be filled to capacity and not everyone with a weekly or monthly septa pass or one of these one-day independence passes will be able to have a seat and board the train. the good news is if you purchased one of these, it's good for a year from now. so if you don't use it tomorrow, it's still valid over the course of the year. septa says really the best advice to give to people is if you can take the market frankford or the broad street line tomorrow, that's your best bet. it's running all day long, unlike regional rail because there's a window between mid-morning and afternoon that regional rail stop running and market frankford and broad street are running for free.
11:36 am
>> septa will have limited service on its wilmington/new washing line between 6:40 and 9:00 a.m. it will only operate from wilmington and markus hook and ridley park to 30th street after the park. and they will leave from 30th street to ridley park and markus park between 2:00 and 9 clock p.m. we and here's your parade steve we like to look off to the west to see where our weather's coming from. our friends in minneapolis that were nice to us in the super bowl, 6 below 0 is what it feels like. this kindeaded in our direction. it's arrived in pittsburgh where the wind chill is 16. that kind of air is head our way. but we're not going to let that distract us. we're going to have a nice parade tomorrow you just need to be smart and prepare. it's tomorrow they don't move much at all, 31 at 11:00.
11:37 am
morning. it's the blue numbers. the wind chill at 19 at 11:00 in the morning. 24 at 1:00 in the afternoon. and then only 26. the warmest tomorrow it will feel during the parade is 26 degrees. and the biggest factor will be that biting breeze. so how do you combat some sugge you. if you want to get out there, choose the sunny side of the street. get the maps out now and f to get the sunshine. you want at least five to seven layers, the scarf, the hat, the gloves because you're going to be out there for a heil. reduce your alcohol intake.want have fun, but it's important to hydrate in this type of cold and wind sheltered areas. glen will have another check of your weather including the tte area coming up. >> all right. thanks for that. nbc 10 hawes covered from start to finish for tomorrow's eagles pa raved champions. we'll bring you every single angle starting at 10:00 a.m. if you're going to the parade set your dvr so you can see it all again when you get home. if you're going to work, you can
11:38 am
stream live on the nbc 10 app. members of the super bowl championship eagles are making the rounds on the talk shows. malcolm jenkins was on late night and seth meyers asked him this key question. >> when the team gets invited to the white house, will you go? >> no, i will not. [ applause ] >> jenkins called the white house visit a, quote, photo op and said he's more interested in meeting with policymakers about changes needed in the community. meantime, five eagles players appeared on the tonight show with fallon last night and he teased jalen mills about his famous green hair. >> you know that you can't not have green hair now, for the rest of your life. >> yeah, i'm stuck with it man. of course you get older hair's probably going to fall out and then i'll just go from on top of my head to this beard. >> mills also said the sprained thumb he suffered during the
11:39 am
game is doing all right and they all talked about the thrill of playing in and winning the super bowl. philadelphia police are searching for two men who took their super bowl celebration a little too far. authorities say these men used a metal pole to break a window at the ac moore on broad street following the super bowl. the store estimates it will take about $4,000 to fix that damage. and take a look at this time lapse of the moments after the super bowl win by the eagles. you can see the streets are almost empty and then a sea of people just appears. that's when the celebrations really got started as the city erupted in joy when the birds made history. well, congress is making progress on a budget, but it's not clear yet if they can get it done by tomorrow's deadline. president trump says if not, let the government shut down. nbc 10 national correspondent tracie potts is following the developments in washington. >> reporter: lawmakers will be scrambling today to keep the
11:40 am
government running. >> i think we're on the way to getting an agreement and on our way to getting an agreement very soon. >> we are really making good progress. i'm very hopeful, very hopeful. >> there seems to be a lot of energy to find common ground. so we're back in the ball game now. >> reporter: but it's not a done deal. >> the motion is adopted. >> the six reason week budget the house aprifd includes new defense spending that's not expected to pass the senate. and, they're still deadlocked on immigration, protecting dreamers but not their families. >> how do you put something together that says your parents violated the law, we're not going to allow that they be able to come in with illegal status. >> reporter: president trump offering to protect more dreamers even those who didn't apply, but firm on family migration. >> let's have a shutdown. we'll do a shutdown and it's worth it for our country. i'd love to see a shutdown if we don't get this stuff taken care of. >> he's the only guy that fiebds anything good in a shutdown. >> we don't need a shutdown to
11:41 am
get will. >> anybody talking about shutdown is not helpful. >> reporter: funding the government still up in the air with less than 48 hours to go. democrats were supposed to be gone all day on their retreat. republicans went on there's in west virginia. because of everything that's going on with the budget they moved that entire event here to the capital so they can be close by in case a deal breaks. tracie potts, nbc news, washington. the countdown to the winter olympics is coming to a close. we're now just one day away from the start of competition and the ploictions a olympics are helping to thaw icy relations with north korea. they plan to send kim jong-un's sister to visit south korea for the games. . pope francis is prags the idea for the korea's to play together in the olympic games. he said the truth between the coreys shows that sports can
