the roller coaster ride, buckle your seatbelts for ups and downs in the forecast. how height temperatures will rise and fall as we track rain and a chance for snow this weekend. the flying tomato reigns supreme. the shaun white is the host of the winter games this as the weather forces officials to postpone some of the other competitions. a sign of the season, the baseball season, that is. the phillies pitchers and catchers report for spring training today in clear water. we're gearing up for their first hatchup next week. >> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. >> right now at 11:00, love is in the air and the famous love sculpture is back where it belongs on this valentine's day. here's a live look at center city where we're enjoying mild

temperatures. but get ready for that roller coaster ride as we head into the end of this week. our first alert weather team is tracking rain and snow. one spot that would welcome the presh powder, camel back resort up in the poconos. we're tracking warm temperatures, rain on the way and a mixed bag if you will. glenn "hurricane" schwartz has the details. glenn, fill us in. >> rosemary, there's a lot going on and a lot going to happen over the next week that's wild. we've seen some swings in temperatures but this is crazy. look at the seven-day forecast at the bottom of your screen for proof. we have sunshine in parts of the area like northern subburkurbs w landsdale and a lot of clouds as you can see but no precipitation. it will be dry during the day. we have rain back to the south west moving in our direction. the area of rain is increasing and we're going to be getting some later tonight.

now the temperature is well above freezing, it's all are the at the average high temperature for this time of year, 43 in philadelphia. close to that elsewhere. and it will be getting up near 50 for the high in philadelphia, but we're not expecting any rain until after 9:00 tonight. so most of your valentine's activities are going to be dry unless you're staying out late, in which case be prepared for that because that rain is going to be coming in, it will get a little bit heavier in the lehigh valley than elsewhere by 9:00 tonight. and you can see the temperatures in the 40s everywhere. we have sixties in the forecast, we even have 70 in the forecast, but we also have snow and i'll have the timing of it all coming up. >> we'll see you shortly. this morning police are warning students at the university of delaware to be careful after an armed robbery just outside of the dorm. the robbery happened overnight in the park lot.

two men wearing masks flashed a handgun, robbed the victim and took off in a gold or tan later model chrysler sedan. new video shows the moment someone walked up to a group of people and opened fire. you can see in this video the shooter bran ditch dishing a gun. the crowd scatters. two teenagers and a man were shot but they are recovering from their injuries. philadelphia police say they don't know if the shooter is a man or woman. what they do know is that he or she got into a dark-colored car and drove off. if you have any information, philly police would like to hear from you. happening now, the defense representing allentown mayor in his federal corruption trial smak its case to the jury. yesterday prosecutors ended three weeks of their arguments that they say shows the mayor tund his office in into a pay to play-doh nations. he has pleaded not guilty to 54

counts of bribery, conspiracy, and fraud. a man accused of stealing a stash of deadly chemicals from the montgomery county chemical where he worked is facing charges this morning. he was a tem chift at merck at the time of the theft. they e told police he took the chemicals to get rid of racoons at his house. when he found out he was under investigation, he dumped it down a storm drain. he couldn't remember where. water tests found no danger to the public. the wait for medical marijuana in pennsylvania is almost over. three dispense ories in our area are prefiring open their doors to nashts week. the first one opens on friday in bethlehem north camp ton county. the other two open on saturday in sell vers ville and devin. keystone shops in devin is one of ten dispense sarries approved

how are love birds celebrating the day, pam? >>reporter: yeah, rosemary, people right now are experiencing the love. they come down here with their significant others. they are taking photographs with the love skuculpture now that is back here. we have been all around catching up with people getting ready for the valentine's holiday. we stop by the bakery where customers, lined up bright and early trying to get their hands on sweet treats. there are therewere cakes, cupcakes, and cookies all themed for today. >> people like the cupcakes, they're popular, they'll bring a dozen or so into work for their friends that they love and bring a couple home for their loved one as well. >> reporter: we also sent time at elite florals. they were working on beautiful arrangements there for customers. they say valentine's day has become more like a week-long celebration with customers flooding their stores with special orders.

the schuylkill expressway. there's a crash on chelt tanham. and the bridge, a few things going on. cam adore barry bridge they're dealing with pothole repairs. coming away from new jersey, palmyra dealing with the traffic change, the pattern is going to be ditch and that's will there until 3:00 this afternoon. and construction on the walt whitman bridge. >> that's traffic moving from philadelphia into new jersey. watch for lane construction on the bridges. back to you. residents in west whiteland township, chester county tender about the controversial pipeline project can joyce their concerns and ideas at a meet with the board of supervisors tonight at 6:30. a nearby uk lid township officials announced plans to stop sunoco from doing anymore work on the pipe lip. they say the zoning order kans nance place since 2014 makes construction near highly

one man is wounded following a shooting just outside the gates of the national security agency in maryland. we've been watching this story since early this morning. authorities surrounded a man after a black suv ran into a barrier at the base. you can see bullet holes in the front window of the suv. you can see the air bags have been p/e deployed. they say the situation is under control and there is no security threat. president trump has been briefed on this situation.

let's head over to washington right now where the u.s. senate is back in session trying to reach a deal on immigration. take a live look at the senate floor. this is u.s. senator bob massachusetts nin des of new jersey. you may remember just had a hung jury in his federal corruption trial. yesterday, the debate started before the -- or rather ended before it started after republicans tried to vote first on a plan to crack down on sanctuary cities. democrats said no, they wanted to vote first on extending the daca program to protect dreamers. those were the young people brought to the u.s. illegally as children. republican leader mitch mcconnell gave an ultimatum that the daca debate will end on friday. we're going to continue to watch this and kiep posted. let's stay in washington where president trump will be meeting with members of congress today to talk about paying for repairs to our country's crumbling roads and bridges. pennsylvania ranked second on a list of states with the most deficient bridges. new jersey is in a little bit better shape at 29. delaware is among the best at

49. earlier this week, the president unveiled a $200 billion infrastructure proposal that depends on funding from states. the u.s. men's hockey team is out after losing today to slow yeen ya in overtime, but there's plenty for the u.s. to celebrate at the winter olympic games. we're following two big headlines. strong winds forced them to evacuate the park and postpone some events. second, shaun white drops in and makes a historic run on the halfpipe. jay gray is in south korea for us. >> reporter: hey there, good afternoon from olympic park in pyeongchang. this place still buzzing after shaun white's run in the snowboard halfpipe, second place going into his final run and he nails it. >> that's the run that he needed and he put it down. >> reporter: he made that run, got to the bottom, everything exploded. his family rushes out, they were

him. he's emotional. that's the first time i've ever seen him cry. coming up in prime time we're going to seamen's skeleton, head first down the ice, what could go wrong there. and then thousand meter web's speed skating, the finals. and the men's super-g finals if the weather permits. this wind has been so hearth over the last couple days. in fact today gusting over 40 miles per hour here in olympic park and have forced them to close things down for a little while just over safety concerns. it has died down at this point. forecast says it's going to remain calm over the next couple days. good news for the competitors, good news for everybody here at the winter games. that's the latest here in pyeongchang. i'm jay gray. now back to you. let's talk a little bit about shaun white. he revealed on the today show this morning that he has his sites on competing for a medal in skateboarding at the 2020 summer games in tokyo. and of course there's a return to the winter games set for beijing in 2022. when white, by the way, will be 35 years old. olympic gold medal dreams are

year ed headed up near 50 degrees. you can see we're in the 40s everywhere else and most of the area seeing sunshine. we do have some clouds in southern delaware and toward the jersey shore, but they're not producing rainey way. we have a big warm-up here, wait till you next the next couple of days. we're tracking more rain aside from just tonight and also some weekend snow. not like a big nor'easter or anything, but pretty weird after a day after we're in the 60s. here come some clouds from the first system that's going to hit us tonight. it's not very well organized, as you can see, but there's a fair amount of moisture there. and temperatures are in the low to mid-40s, pretty uniform across the area right now. but the temperatures overall, just kind of going a little crazy. we've got tomorrow at 65,

thursday close to 60 -- friday close to 60, then saturday we plunge. sunday starting to go back up. monday back into the 50s. by tuesday and wednesday, 60s again, maybe even 70 one of those days next week. it's not going to be that warm today, but above average and we're expecting the rain generally to come after 9:00 tonight. so if you're having an early dinner, you're fine. late dinner, umbrella's needed because some of that rain will be coming in and in some areas at least before midnight. as we go hour by hour, we see some rain coming in from the west, maybe a couple sprinkles before 9:00 is the latest computer model's just in. berks county, lehigh valley, perhaps western montgomery, north korean chester could see a little bit of rain before 9:00. as we go toward the midnight hour that's when the rain starts to overspread the area, just about everybody sees at least

some rain during the night tonight and it's already starting to move out toward the morning rush tomorrow. so there it is at 8:00 a.m. so maybe a little bit of light rain in some areas, especially new jersey. then we're going to get a bit of a break during much of the day on thursday, and then here comes a bigger system providing rain thursday night and into friday. again, widespread rain, everybody gets it. then the drier air and colder air comes in friday night. we're starting saturday off pretty nice, maybe a little sunshine. but then here comes moisture. this is a mix, perhaps, of rain and snow late in the afternoon. changing to all snow saturday night. now, most of the computer models are giving at least some snow to parts of the area, the farther south you are, the more marginal the temperatures are and it

way. and some spots could see snow this weekend. one of those areas looking for the potential snow, allentown up in the lehigh valley. meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking all these ups and downs and changes to our weather. glenn. >> yeah, ros marry, it does get pretty wild around here. right now things are quiet. we have sunshine in much of the area. this is outside our studios. farther to the north and west we're starting to see some of the clouds coming in, just the beginnings of the increase in moisture. more clouds in delaware and toward the jersey shore, but we're not seeing anything on the radar close by. we have some showers coming in to west virginia now, but that's pretry light and widely scattered. you can see the increase in moisture back to the west. temperatures generally in the low to mid-40s. already at our average highs for this time of the year. and, of course, they're going to be going up.

it will be going up a lot because of the clouds are going to be increase, but we could hit 50 degrees or little bit higher in between the hours of, let's say, 3:00 and 5:00. by this evening we're holding fairly steady, in the upper 40s and the rain generally expected after 9:00. some of these areas, pa suburbs, lehigh valley could see a few sprinkles come in just before 9:00 so we'll date you on that this afternoon. rain is coming tonight. we've got more rain before the weekend, we've got 60s before the weekended, and then we have some snow during the weekend. i'll break down thauall of that coming up. let's head now to new orleans where police are looking for the gunman who shot five people killing two of them. just miles away from the mardi gras celebrations it was fat tuesday after all. neighbors say they heard hundreds of gone shots last night. victims were in a car when the bullets hit. they drove interest a scene

where they were shot that the nearby gas station. passengers on united airline flight that land safely in honolulu are breathing a sigh of relief. during a flight from san francisco, an englin covering apparently came off leaving one passenger to tweet it was the scariest flight ever. united airlines says its pilots followed all protocols to land safely. they met the plane on the tarmac. there are no reports of any injuries. the faa plans to investigate. this morning we're learning the man accused of setting off bombs in both new york city and the jersey shore will spend the rest of his life in prison. he told the court he harbors hate for no one during his sentencing yesterday, however, federal prosecutors say he shows no remorse for the bombings and has even tried to radicalize federal prisoners since he's been in custody. he wounded 30 people when one of his bombs exploded in manhattan in september of 2016. according to prosecutors, he also set off a bomb along the

course of a marine corps charity run. nobody there was hurt. pga golfer bill haase is expected to survive after this rollover crash in los angeles. he was a passenger. the driver of the vehicle died. wilson was in an suv that was clipped by the ferrari. he's okay. it's not yet clear how this crash happened. new this morning the family of bill paxton is suing the hospital and surgeon who performed the actor's heart surgery last year. he died from a stroke just 11 days after the surgery. the wrongful death lawsuit says the surgeon used a high-risk approach that he didn't even have the experience to perform. according to family, cedar sinai medical center new the surgeon was a maverick with poor judgment. the hospital is not commenting on the lawsuit. a mother and daughter are accused of stealing a quarter of a million dollars worth of underwear and bras from a victoria secret store. they were caught on security

they told me they've sold nearly 1,000 roses all rtd and they're expecting to seal just as many if not more today and tomorrow. of course red and pink roses are a big hit on valentine's day, but flor rifts say lilies are also becoming quite popular in arrangements as well. you obviously want to keep flowers that beautiful around for a while so here's some tips on how to keep them fresh for days to come. >> change your water every other day. if it is not necessary to put anything into the water as these flowers most of them have been treated and they should be absolutely fine. adding chemicals to your water sometimes shortens the life of your flowers not lengthens them. but if you do that they should last. >> reporter: and it's not just of the guys who are going out of their way on valentine's day. we caught up with customers here in this backerry. in of them were here to pick up sweet trooes treats for friends and coworkers. the ka nolis and cub cakes were

the area, but that satellite and radar there are no radar echos nearby. some light sprinkles in parts of west virginia and ohio moving our way, so we are going to see some tonight. and this is one of the areas that we're going to see some rain but there's much later tonight. and then even on saturday when we're expecting snow and other parts of the area, there may be rain here down at the jersey shore. cape may 42, avalon 43, see the southwest wind, that's not only going to warm the shore up, it will warm urp the rest of the area too. as we go into the evening hours, mostly dry through the early evening, temperatures in the 40s. this is rain, there's no threat of ice or snow with this. and toward midnight we're getting more widespread rain across the area. that is generally gone by tomorrow morning. and most of tomorrow is just cloudy, but very mild. up near 60 degrees or into the

60s. and then the rain comes back tomorrow night. that's more significant rain. and that -- look how warm it is friday night. we -- or thursday night. we have that rain moving out by friday night. and then watch the temperatures go down. this is 5:30 in the afternoon, now it's into the 30s at night. and by saturday morning 20s. and then the moisture starts coming in. so we have the threat of some snow late saturday and saturday night. now, as you can see, these temperatures are fairly marginal, so it would take a pretty good burst of snow to accumulate on roads. certainly could accumulate on grassy surfaces and even warmer in central and southern delaware where it would either be just rain or melting snow and then

it's gone by sunday morning. this is not a long-lasting storm, it's not a big storm, but it's a little strange when you have 65 degrees on thursday and by saturday you have snow with a hive 36. that's p.m. snow, late in the day and saturday night. looks like it will move out by sunday morning. and then we warm up again and we really warm up next week. if you think tomorrow's 65 is high, middle of next week we could get up near 70 degrees. and we could have multiple days of 60 degrees or above. how about that? we'll be right back.
