he's going to stand on the podium at the olympics as we are down to the final skater and the only man who theoretically has a chance to beat yuzuru hanyu. the silver medalist, shoma uno. here's the 20-year-old who is third on the short program, a little less than eight points back. >> the stunning and emotional piece. so powerful. he will not want to give any technical points away. >> down on the quad loop.

those three having a good time. they're the podium as it stands at the moment. but this man, shoma uno, just 20 years old. although in this sport, that is advanced on 1078 levesome level. he's been successful in japan. but at this stage, on this stage, he has always been in the shadow of hanyu. >> that's not going to end here. >> right. last year at the world championshi championships, they went one two. >> shoma uno has earned in the free program 202 points. >> that is going to be enough. yes. japan goes one-two at the olympics in men's skating.

entire process. wow. >> you know -- >> bow down to hanyu. >> you know what it means to him, obviously. how do you think he'll take this and soak it all up sf. >> it's so hard to say. he works so hard. he will show up at 5:00 a.m. for a practice for a show on a sunday and he'll train as if it were the olympics. he's prepared for this. he's trained for this. he's one of the happiest people i've ever met. so this will put him over the moon. >> popular, too. all the other skaters out here. you travel around and they love that guy. yuzuru hanyu, the gold medalist once again. shoma uno makes it one-two for japan and javier fernandez is able to earn that medal for spain in men's skating here. he gets the podium for the first time. nathan chen made it interesting, didn't he? goes out early, makes a huge

comeback. gets five of the quads, posts the number and almost makes it to the podium at the olympics. a statement coming back from the american teenager. javier fernandez has done just about everybody in terms of being the first to do this, to do that for spain in figure skating. now he's got another one. he's got a medal from the olympics and shoma uno, midway through a program that almost got away from him. reeled it back in and reeled everybody with him to earn the silver medal. his countrymen dominant in this sport. after this, his second olympic gold medal, he will certainly be remembered as one of the greatest ever to lace up a pair of skates and compete in this sport. yuzuru hanyu, the gold medalist, mike tirico. >> 66 years, last time back-to-back.

so impressive there. let look at the medal count presented by samsung. norway running away a little bit. bit of a shakeup after the men's free skate as japan goes gold and silver with hanyu and uno. the u.s. is tied for 7th with 8. quite an evening, including the headline there at the figure skating. what we saw with alpine. which was incredible. >> she had run one world cup super-g race in the last five months and shows up in the olympics and out of nowhere after all the folks who everyone thought would win had run, she puts up a time just good enough to win the gold. that's why the olympics are so special. you saw is on so many different levels this evening. there's more olympic coverage ahead. if you're in the eastern and central time zones, it's local

how much snow you see will depend on where you live. the poconos and lehigh valley could get several inches. this is our live camera. >> philadelphia could see a snow and mix and slushy driving conditions. >> at the shore you'll mostly see rain. the calm before the storm. >> we're timing this storm out neighborhood by neighborhood. >> the key to this is going to be what neighborhood you're in. the first alert we have issued for accumulating snow is going

to be for the pennsylvania suburbs and the lehigh valley. that's where we feel we could see 3 to 6 inches of snow between 6:00 tomorrow night and 5:00 sunday morning. i think there's going to be a fast burst of snow that comes down between 9:00 and midnight across the entire area. the key is going to be temperature and location of where the center of this storm system is. 3 to 6 inches of snow is a heavy, wet snow that comes down. it will make for sloppy, slippe slippery, snow-packed roads. we're expecting to see snowfall. we're expecting it to be sloppy and slushy in philadelphia, just not to the extent of needing to issue a first alert. nothing on the doppler radar but let's head out to the southwest. it's so far away. you're saying, how will it make it here? it's on a jet stream that will bring it in at 100 miles an hour. you can see the cold air mixing in as it heads through oklahoma and it will arc up in our direction. let's go ahead back home here and walk you through quickly the

social media sites like facebook, instagram and twitter. their goal was clear, to hurt donald trump and hillary clinton. >> the defendants allegedly conducted what they called information warfare against the united states. with the stated goal of spreading distrust towards the candidates and the political system. >> the these are the first indictments tied directly to election meddling to come from special counsel robert mueller's investigation. president trump responded in a tweet saying his campaign did nothing wrong. no collusion. but investigators did not say these indictments cleared the trump campaign. investigators say the russian defendants pretended to be american activists and promoted several campaign rallies, including one right here in philadelphia. nbc 10 drew smith takes us inside the strategy.

>> reporter: information war fashgs a 21st century assault aimed to create chaos. >> as if it was a b-2 bomber dropping a bomb over the united states. >> reporter: with a budget of more than $1 million a month, the efforts based in russia date back to 2014. a 26-year-old shows nbc news where it shows he pumped out fake articles at the internet research agency. >> it's not officially affiliated with the russian state and russian government but it's pretty well known for spreading propaganda over the web. >> reporter: the efforts influenced unknowing americans who showed up at this rally in organization. also a facebook post for a coal miner's rally in south philadelphia. officials say it was paid for by this russian scheme. the indictment says they purchased server space in the

u.s., then stole social security numbers and dates of birth of real americans setting up accounts and to pie political ads on social media. >> it undermines american companies. >> reporter: the white house did not say what it would do to prevent this from happening again. the tech companies mentioned say they're working with the fbi on tackling this threat. i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. president trump spent time with victims of the mass school shooting in parkland, florida, tonight. donald trump and melania thanked the doctors for their hard work and praised the officers for their heroism. accused shooter, nikolas cruz, is willing to plead guilty if the trump penalty is taken off the table. cruz's attorney says he'll admit jail in exchange for a life

sentence without parole. we learn cruz was on the fbi's radar well before wednesday's massacre. the agency says it failed to investigate a tip last month that cruz could be plotting a florida shooting. they are now calling for the fbi director to resign. broward county sheriff also said they received 20 calls about cruz over the last few years. this latest mass shooting has reignited the gun control debate. vigils like this are happening all across the country. they say everyone across the nation has to agree. something has to be done about guns. >> mr. biegel was my hero. >> one by one they read out the victim of parkland school shooting. it was one more night of

flickering and remembering the victims. for the head of cease-fire pennsylvania, the tragedy hits close to home. her son knew students in that school. it's another reason for me to keep wanting harder gun laws. >> it's harder for them to get guns than to get help. in some schools in philadelphia it's easier to get a gun than a computer. >> at clayton's indoor range, the sound of gunshots echoed off the wall. >> there have been some ideas floated around about arming veterans and putting them inside schools. that may not be a horrible asked. >> tom clayton says he doesn't know how to end it but it certainly doesn't start with taking them away. >> taking the implement to why they're solving does not solve the problem.

that's never been done before in the olympic games. it was redemption he needed after a terrible short program. he came this close to a medal, too, jumping from 17th to fifth place. pennsylvania may not have medaled but he had fun. he had three clean skates, enevery minute on the ice. rippon has been waiting for his olympic moment for a long time. congrats to him. to alpine skiing everyone was watching american skater lindsey vonn. today's run in the super "g" didn't go as hoped. a mistake at the bottom cost her some time. you can see her disappointment. vonn will not medal here but have another chance in the downhill event. with so many people out here right now at the olympic park, we had to decide for ourselves, what do they know about philadelphia? just out of curiosity.

new video shows an suv speeding down a sidewalk moments before it hit and killed an 8-year-old girl. near the scene of a crash on fifth and eighth streets. an 84-year-old man was behind the wheel. friends and family held a vigil for the victim last night. she was on that sidewalk riding her bike which she was killed. an adult was also struck but survived. the driver hasn't been charged but police are still investigating. a new twist about an arson in south jersey. officers say the owner of berlin's count town inn started the fire. he hired someone to torch the diner for the insurance money.

as the diner burnt, he told us he depended on the restaurant to support his disabled parents. he's now been charged with arson. back to the first alert neighborhood forecast and the snow crashing your presidents' day weekend. you see the snow moving in. brandon hudson shows us how people are trying to get ahead of this tricky weather. >> reporter: it's a nice night tonight, but 24 hours from now it will be a different story. some people are thinking ahead. by grocery shopping tonight. >> actually, i bought a lot of organic food. >> reporter: kathleen has one less thing to worry about this weekend. she stocked up on groceries ahead of saturday night's expected snowfall. what was it like inside the grocery store? >> actually it was pretty calm there. i expected it to be packed. traffic is building so i know people will be coming out. >> reporter: she wasn't the only one shopping before the storm.

earlier in the day our crew saw people buying salt and shovels in mt. prussia. home depot has run out of salt. it's business as usual as rec room and other restaurants. this post-valentine's day weekend is expected to bring in crowd. >> because of valentine's month, basically, we do chocolate and wine pairings so people have to reserve in advance. i have about 30, 35 people. >> reporter: that's near capacity at black walnut winery. the owner says despite the snow, no one has canceled reservations for saturday and he has no plans to close on his busiest night. some couples chose to get out of the house while it's nice since saturday is a gamble. >> we were talking about that as we walked up, we'll have to do something tomorrow night as well. the snow, we didn't take that into consideration. >> reporter: brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. we're timing out the snow

chances for your neighborhood. >> a messy saturday evening, right? >> it's going to be a messy saturday evening and early sunday morning. . you have plans maybe church or brunch, you might want to give it a few hours, see if it will melt. we will have snowpacked roads, especially in the suburbs and lehigh valley. we told you we have a first alert. that is for the suburbs and for the lehigh valley. that's not to say we won't get snow across parts of philadelphia but i think that's not going to have the impact it is in the other places. let's take a look at what's going on right now. we have mainly clear skies. we're going to cool down to the freezing mark or below overnight. it's not going to stay that way. this system is actually a fairly warm system. we have warm temperatures in place today after hitting the 60s today. and this system is going to come across that very warm air. you can see the transition now as the cold air is filtering in in parts of oklahoma but what's going to happen, watch as it rushes towards us. it will start to cool down.

it will get cold. it looks like it's going to bisect our area with rain across south jersey and philadelphia. and the true snow, which should stay in place for most of the entire event tomorrow night, will be in the suburbs and lehigh valley. let's start with new jersey. watch what happens along the shore. you never see anything except rain. we see a little snow. in parts of south jersey and then it transitions to rain. not expecting anything by way of snow accumulation there. delaware is almost the same situation. i think you'll see snow in the northern portion and that's going to transition as well into a mix and into rain be. let's take it to philadelphia
