fire that ripped through a south jersey ambulance company wiping out vehicles and equipment and leaving behind $2 million in damages. all new at 5:00, live at that scene. >> many emts call this building their second home, right? >> reporter: 47 people work here. this is schlegel their home away from home. to watch their workplace, these ambulances and all the life saving equipment burn, needless to say it has been an emotional overwhelming day. to the left you can see living quarters. while this squad used to be volunteer now it is paid. four emts were inside, three of them sound asleep. >> you wake up with your life on the line and most people don't do that. i didn't grab my stuff. just got out. >> reporter: the sound of oxygen canisters exploding, yvonne conrad and three colleagues

escaped with their lives. >> i made sure they had woken up running towards the door. >> reporter: six ambulances and a brand new unit just dropped off yesterday destroyed. what happens if they need you? >> if there's an emergency there's an ambulance to respond to the calls. >> reporter: crews will respond to an elmer city ambulance and a borrowed unit anticipated tonight. >> i don't think anybody will be in grave danger. >> reporter: the legion's squad responds and roughly 60 calls a week. david miller spent 32 years as volunteer. he said two of the lost units deployed to new york city for 9/11. >> it is really sad to see. >> reporter: the fire state marshall's office is investigating, but still doesn't know how the fire started. it doesn't appear suspicious. >> we have been fortunate so far to get quick response. >> i'm grateful. we started from the bottom and

built up. i have full faith we can do it again. >> reporter: just before this fencing went up, crews pulled the burned crews out barely recognizable as an emergency vehicle. they may have to return for a second day of investigation. the quad estimates the losses and damages could be upwards of $2 million but the insurance company have yet to give us any solid dollar figures. nbc10 news. to another fire getting a lot of attention in old city, a fire-ravaged building is imminently dangerous and will have to be demolished. another building affected needs repairs before it is safe. getting a look at the damage but still too dangerous to go inside. it forced more than 172 people to evacuate, some came back today to grab their belongings.

>> i guess they were spraying water in on the top floor and all soaked down to the fifth and fourth floors. a lot of the people's stuff will be wet but replaceable. >> it is expected to be closed at least a week while crews continue to work on that scene. more than a million people in pennsylvania will soon have a new representative in congress. the reason the new supreme state court released congressional maps. you can see they were drawn with geographical bases and democrats argue it was drawn to benefit republicans. the new maps are mainly based on county boarders. montgomery county was split almost among five congressman and now it will almost all have one representative, and allow a congressman to focus on issues of a smesk geographic area. >> now, because of this new redistricting, you're right.

coaster. >> it is a ride up the roller coaster if you like warmth. not so good for ski resorts. we've seen rain and then warmaire, perhaps not record 70s in the poconos but could see 50s and 60s and a lot of melting. we have showers making their way out of bucks county. doylestown about to clear and trenton, about to clear and franklin steadier showers moving that way. sprinkles now this evening, the bulk lifted to the area. we will see fog developing overnight tonight. let's look at what will happen to our numbers. we're in the 40s and tomorrow winds have us in the 50s and by midday we're in the 60s and punching into the 70s and setting new records. we'll talk about that when i come back in a few minutes.

memorials continue to grow for those victims of the massacre in florida. this as the senate prepares for tougher legislation on guns, the proposal includes new age restrictions for gun purchases and ban on gun stocks. students and shooting survivors are turning their anger into action. >> reporter: in plantation, florida, not far from a school where a gunman killed 17 people, today a call for action. students sending a message to state and federal leaders something needs to change. >> we need safety in schools so we don't go to school in fear. >> we want a sole weapon ban. no need anybody needs to walk in with a military grade rival. >> reporter: family and friends say good-bye to shooting victim, alaina patty.

mystery in bucks county. >> one man is dead and police are trying to figure out who killed him and why. >> reporter: police used drones looking for evidence at 20 hill, philadelphia. he was shot not far from his car in a parking lot in a residential neighborhood. >> i've never seen anything like that before. >> reporter: those who live and work on both sides of the line say they have never seen a crime like this before. >> in general, a big shock. >> somebody knows him and saw him there and we need to talk to this guy to get to the killers behind bars. >> reporter: three men went running from the scene. the victim's phone and wallet and car have all been found. robbery wasn't a motive say police who tell nbc10 the

westchester, limerick, taking a northern track. i won't rule out a sprinkle tonight but we won't see heavier showers. this is a big arc over our area, because that's where the moisture is, water vapor imagery in blue, all the moisture. we have a jet stream take this extreme northern track, very warm air underneath us and we will see a wet pattern tracking over our area. we will be warm this entire week, excessively than normal. look at the showers across monday. let's take you through what's going to happen straight ahead. in the 40s and 50s in the morning. we will see the winds turning to the southwest. we will see the patchy fog out there. by tomorrow in the afternoon, we will be into the upper 60s and low 70s, breaking records across the area. wednesday, we start quite warm in the 60s. could see an isolated sprinkle.

now at 5:00, a new twist on an old scam, a bogus tax refund. the refund is sent to you or deposited into your account. then the crooks call you and try to con you out of the money. >> they poses an irs or debt collector associated with irs and tell you there's a refund you're not entitled to that is in your account or in your mailbox. they give you instructions to return it but it gets returned not to irs but to the thieves. >> yes. uncovering the scam earlier this month after hundreds of complaints about taxpayers. remember, the irs will never call you. if you need to contact the irs, we have posted a link to their most important phone number on our nbc10 app, search "find it" on ten. the disney movie "black

panther" opened at the box office. it wowed fans. signing autographs and part of a panel discussion. tomorrow. we see the winds turn to the southwest. start with the fog in the morning, clearing in the afternoon, we punch into the upper 60s and low 70s and we reach the 70 degree mark we'll be record breaking in the philadelphia area. wednesday, it's even warmer. tomorrow, 72 in philadelphia, once the clouds clear, 70 in suburbs, 64 in lehigh valley they just saw a half foot of snow. 56 at the shore, the cool spot and 72 in delaware. come on back, we will talk about the remainder of your foggy work week. the holiday has skiers lining up at ski lyfts throughout the poconos today. monday off, chance to head to the mountains. camelback mountain resort, pretty clouded there, about a two hour drive from philadelphia. we sent steven there.

what's this, steven, you should be out there skiing? >> i think i was the only one here at camelback. they had perfect weather conditions. the key is "had" and tomorrow, mid to high 60s. people we spoke to who said they will be here all week said that's okay, they have plan for that. the lifts here at camelback resort have been running nonstop this holiday weekend. it snows beautiful from saturday. >> it was a perfect storm, 40 degrees and sunny and saturday put down about 6 inches of snow. >> reporter: the marketing director said the long holiday weekend and winter olympic games helped drive business. >> we saw an uptick and also with the olympics we saw more attention to skiing and snowboarding. >> i like seeing it in the olympics and it helps inspire

thanks. you can track the weather any time on nbc10.com and on the nbc10 app. a look at stories county by county across the region today. in montgomery county a person was hit and killed by a car. police say the 4-year-old victim was hit at union street and garfield avenue at 5:30 a.m. the driver stayed at the scene of the accident and no word if charges will be filed. neighbors in allentown felt shaking and rattling in their homes. they said it's nothing worry about, it was a military jet. it was all part of a military exercise. to newcastle county, a $100 million plan to upgrade the city refinery means more jobs coming to the area. the $100 million upgrade was approved years ago but it was

beloved. big changes, hard to believe it will be in this 70s the next two days. we are in transition, a little damp and still below average. right now, hanging onto 45 in wilmington, wind chills at 43. you can see a little bit of rain, soggy road, damp. more importantly what you're looking at is a fog beginning to settle in across the area. 48 in philadelphia. we are looking at a wind chill at 45. humidity of 83%. we will see patchy fog tonight and that will continue into early tomorrow morning. nonetheless once it burns off, temperatures will rise quickly. 52 at the jersey shore, 51 at south jersey. delaware, 45, philadelphia at 48, 41 in the suburbs and 41 in the lehigh valley. interesting because half a foot of snow fell there. right now, temperature the coolest.

sinking spring at 39, hope well at 40. white hall at 40. easton at 40 and walnut port at 47. even here we will see a lot of melting, probably not the 70s but definitely thinking 60s tomorrow. here's what we're expecting, record in philadelphia is 70 tomorrow. i think we will do 72. breaking records there. in trenton and to wilmington breaking a record. it won't happen in atlantic city and cooler along jersey shore because winds come off the water and keeps it cooler there. it isn't too close in allentown or redding because of the snow pack. that will create a lot of melting. watch out for slushy roads and probably ponding in areas. the rain has exited an area, i won't rule out a sprinkle tonight. the heavier showers north of pennsylvania. this is what's going to happen. we'll walk you through it. southeast wind, temperatures in

the 40s. they're climbing into the 50s. look at the winds in the southwest, the more favorable air mass. make it to the upper 60s and low 70s tomorrow, clearing out in the afternoon. wednesday, we see sunshine. we start the morning in the 60s and we punch into those 70s. breaking records again on our wednesday before we see showers start to move in. then, we're in for an extended wet period, wednesday night, thursday, saturday, it will be cooler on our thursday looking at temperatures back into the 40s. thursday, i think we're back into the 50s after that. 48 tonight in philadelphia, 76 in the suburbs, 44 in lehigh valley. 48 at the shore and 47 in delaware. tomorrow we start with the fog and get sunshine in the afternoon. 72 in philadelphia, 70 in suburbs, 70 in south jersey, 56 on the jersey shore. 10-day on ten.
