them better. live in trenton, cydney long, nbc 10 news. a montgomery county school superintendent is speaking out demanding a ban on rapid fire assault weapons. he sent this letter to parents in the wake of the shooting in parkland. he talked about security protocols and what resources the district has available to students. this is no longer about politics. it's a safety issue. >> i'm frustrated it has become a partisan issue. i don't have patience. dozens gathered at city hall to try to stop gun violence.

the district attorney spoke at that event. president trump is expected to meet to har concerns and this afternoon the president took action to come up with gun control measures. he directed the attorney general jeff sessions to draft regulations that would ban devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns. they are called bump stocks. >> we'll send you an alert from the nbc 10 app. download it and turn on alerts. now to record breaking warmth. it feels like may in february.

the great state of pennsylvania challenge the new pushed congressional map all the way to the supreme court, if necessary. your original was correct. don't let the dems take elections away from you so that they can raise taxes and waste money. lauren mayk is live with what happens next and why this is such a fierce fight. >> reporter: democrats need 24 seats to take control of the house in washington. they could get 10 to 20% of that here in pennsylvania, especially the way these new lines are drawn. and that is why the president is watching this closely. that is why it matters so much to both sides. what changes and what doesn't right here. in delaware county, the dividing lines stand out. >> i have friends who live four blocks in a different district. >> reporter: this is part of the odd shaped 7th congressional

district that now under a new map from the supreme court is changing with delaware county now all tucked into one district. >> it's something we have been hoping for andqi wanting for a long time. now we have it. >> reporter: david landough is is chair of the democratic party. he thinks democrats can take at least three house seats from pennsylvania this year, including the 7th district. chance so enticing it could be a crowded primary. >> just this morning alone, three more people called me to tell me they are going to get in the race. >> reporter: now he and his fellow democrats have formed a committee and took questionnaires to candidates to sort through it all while republicans are vowing a legal challenge as soon as tomorrow. >> what's it going to mean in terms of how many seats republicans could lose? >> we don't know the answer to that. we don't foe. it's clear they did try to advantage democratic candidates relative to the previous map. >> reporter: today at a stop at a manufacturer, pat toomey said the court took on an

inappropriate role acting like a super legislature. >> we have got a political map done by the supreme court and they had no business doing it. >> reporter: we have learned that pennsylvania officials are moving forward to get ready for a primary using this new map. and there's not much time for a legal challenge before things really gting because candidates will start circulating their petitions to get on the ballot one week from today. i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. a fourth person cut a deal in the russian meddling investigation. robert mueller charged an attorney this afternoon. he pleaded guilty toing to federal investigators about his interactions with former trump campaign official gates. he faces up up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. two cars in a tractor-trailer collided killing two people and injuring a third.

it happened around 11:00 at west pike. the drivers of both cars are killed. the passenger in one of the cars is in critical condition. no word caused the crash. scary scene at a jersey shore auto parts store after a pickup truck barrelled through the building burying a customer under debris. and surveillance video shows the moment of impact that the auto zone on wellington avenue. the truck clipped a customer and toppled shelves inside. that's when the customer got trapped. another shopper and worker pulled him to safety. >> you see it on tv, but when you see it with your own eyes, it's unbelievable. >> the customer and the truck driver were both hurt, but they are expected to be okay. police are still trying to figure out what caused the crash in the first place. so far no charges have been filed. the store had to close to make some big time repairs. now at 6:00, allentown's mayor is expected to take the stand tomorrow in his federal

corruption trial. character witnesses testified for the defense. several pastors and a teacher said ed pawlowski is an honest man. prosecutors say he rigged contracts for businesses that supported his run for governor and u.s. senate. it's been a year since new jersey reformed the bail system and the number of defendants detained is on the e decline. the new jersey state judiciary report details a 20% drop in those detained before trial. the changes put into place in 2017 all but eliminated cash wail. today in trenton a discussion about legalizing heroin in new jersey. governor phil murphy and other democrats in the state house are pushing to make new jersey the tenth state to legalize pot. a pro-pot business company sponsored today's event. it feels like winter could be over, but is the flu season over? coming up, we ask that very question to the professionals. and we have some wild weather around here.

landing. just a little bit inland. only 47 in cape may point right now. and it's also in the 40s in some of the the delaware beaches right now. look to the west. pittsburgh, 75. warmest february day ever recorded. 75 in stints. that's where all the rain is. some of that coming this way. tomorrow looks like everybody is going to be setting records because it's going to be even warmer than today. philadelphia with an excellent chance. trenton and wilmington also very likely to be setting records. not much moisture around here. we have to go up to the great lakes. this band of moisture is just sitting there. and so there's flooding in that part of the country. in the meantime, we have an incredibly warm night. 11:30 tonight it's 62 degrees. the average high is 45.

tomorrow morning, 62 degrees. this may be the warmest february night that we have ever recorded in philadelphia. tomorrow afternoon, well into the 70s except right at the beaches. and then here comes the change. showers, colder weather, setting us up for thursday for a chilly start. ask an even colder finish. waf this. down into the 30s with showers. that's afternoon. . then friday, here we are in the 30s with rain. what a change. and what a difference between philadelphia and the lehigh valley. still pretty warm in the will high valley, but as we go through the rest of the week, it's going to be pretty chilly.
