artists. thanks for joining us. i'm jim rosenfield. >> and i'm jacqueline london. we'll take you to pyeongchang for the latest. first, police officers are sounding off against a florida officer who waited outside a school as a gunman was killing 17 people inside. this evening authorities revealed school resource officer scott peterson was caught on surveillance outside the massacre. he was armed and in uniform but he stood by doing nothing for more than four minutes. he never went into the school to try to save the students it was his job to protect. >> there are no words. i mean these families lost their children. we lost coaches. i have been to the funerals. i have been to the homes. >> the officer was suspended

this morning and hours later he chose to resign. some are criticizing that officer's inaction. >> they are promising their officers will never wait outside in the veevent of a school shooting. we have their protocol for going straight to the threat. >> reporter: they tell me before the columbine mass shooting it with was protocol for officers to wait for s.w.a.t. to come out before they went inside the schools. that's not the case anymore. >> we are not waiting outside in the parking lot. we are not sitting on the sidewalk. >> he tells nbc 10 he has no doubt what his officers would do if faced with an active shooter at a school. >> if there is an incident and an officer waits to go in for some reason, which i have no

idea why he would do that, that would be a problem for me and for the community. >> on his force officers are mandated to enter the school immediately and try to neutralize any threat. he is trying to figure out why a deputy on scene would wait outside during the mass shooting. >> at that point we don't worry about policy. what does this say? what does that say? no. one vented on social media. one said outgunned but a little more prepared than a school full of kids. one said i would rather to liver one life and die than liver a thousand like a goat. nbc 10 news. and this just in. for the first time we are hearing the 911 call the accused florida shooter made himself back in november.
