sparking fires. this video coming to us from r carmen in sharon hill. this is happening in neighborhoods all over. heavy snow is accumulating on electrical wire ts r, causing them to fall. the exit is still jammed up. here is why. take a look. a free fell on top of a septa bus. that happened around 1:00. four passengers were injured. a massive tree is now sitting on a house. this is on lyle lane. that tree uprooted in the front yard and crashed right on top of that home. >> wow. also a rough ride on the cape may lewis ferry today. look at the water. choppy waters out there. starting the rock back and forth back and forth and because of the weather, the ferry has canceled all remaining departures today. that is not surprising. tammie is tracking what's happening now where you live. >> what we're going look at is the timing of what we have to look forward to. it's going to be a rough night. destructive high winds, those

are the 50 to 70 mile an hour wind gusts. heavy, wet snow and whiteouts are going to continue throughout the noiight, o don't go out. property damage, it's already happening. we're going to have treacherous travel and we're going to see the coastal threat and through early tomorrow morning. taking a look at the radar, it hasn't moved that much. we are start iing to sea a litt clearing in the poconos and lehigh valley, but this dark shade of purple stretching down into delaware and over into south jersey, that's where we see the steady snow blowing around creating those whiteout conditions. it's not moving eastward the way they want it to. it's just moving from knot to south and it's kind of moving over the same areas again and again. so accumulation is not the biggest concern right now. certainly there will be some slushy roads and pile up on grassy areas.

it is the fact these areas here, especially in northern delaware and into south jersey are having the worst of the conditions. again, here are those damage reports. it is staggering and you can see the main body of the storm is right here and it is not moving. it won't move out until we get into tomorrow and that's when we're expecting this see this whole thing and a shove off to the east. we're going to continue to follow this and bring you pictures. we'll update you op what's going on in your neighborhood. the best advice is don't go out unless it's an emergency. back to you. >> an area that got so much snow heading now to the lehigh valley, a live look from allentown. >> steven has been in the lehigh valley all day long. he's gin joining us from hanover township in northamptom county.

you've been pouned by winds there as well. how is it now? >> you know what, we have some good news. you notice we have some wind, but there's one thing missing, that's the snow. it seems as though the snow has tapered off in the lehigh valley. but the winds still very present. we've seen it knocking people around. knocking trees down. take a look here across the street. a tree fell down a few hours ago and there could still be more to come because the winds are not dying down. inside the diner in northamptom county u, it was empty. but not because of the snow, it's due to the high winds that knocked out the power. >> with no power, not much we can do. >> his wasn't the only one. a majority of the businesses had the lights go out on them just before lunchtime. >> probably about 9:30 then of course somewhere around 11:30,

it was off. . >> the winds whipped all day long, getting stronger at the day moved on. at times, the snowfall made near whiteout conditions on the roads. the drivers had enough of a challenge. >> the snow is very, very well wet and it is a little heavy sks but it's not that deep, so that makes it a lot easier to shovel. >> we mentioned some of the power outages. also traffic leichights out her. as you look behind me, you see the businesses, they would normally be lit up on a friday night, open for businesses, but they, too, are out of power. we're also standing in the sheets parking lot. sheets is out of power. the whole area is a lot darker than it normally would be. drivers driving on these roads, a little slippery and without a will the of working traffic lights. back to you. >> hundreds of thousands without

power across the region because of this storm. glenn is tracking conditions in the lehigh valley as well as the suburbs. >> what can people in those areas expect tonight? >> the snow might be over for now, but it's not over completely. we still have the strong wind gusts even by 9:00, we could see winds gusting over 50 miles an hour. as we head towards 11:00, it is getting lighter and lighter and just traivia snow flake flakes. by late tonight, not gusting until 20. tomorrow morning, again, it's not 50, but to 40. that's still not too pleasant. but it diminishes tomorrow afternoon as well. of course, we watch these

temperatures hour by hour. it's still well above it at 36. it's still at 31. tend to run cool. whitehall at 33. bethlehem at 32. those numbers have not changed. over the last couple of hours. and elsewhere in the suburb, chester county, west down to 30 to be some slick spots there. 31 in mall bourn and here the freezing mark. we'll keep an eye on those and of course, take a look at other neighborhoods coming up. >> all right, glenn, let's get a look at the situation in if suburbs. we're live in pli mouth valley, montgomery county. we just talked to two gentlemen who were walk iing from the direction of germantown pike, which is over here to my right. they went to the -- that has electricity because this

neighborho neighborhood. it's one of many sights around the county. a long with this one. by afternoon, tens of thousands without power. roads not only snow packed, but blocked and for trees not being held back by wires, those had caused fires, power outages and frustration. >> it's pretty bad. >> driving is the last thing crews want you to do. no one is getting anywhere fast and the pennsylvania turnpike to side roads. mother nature delivered an unexpected end to the week. >> think iing it was going to b rainy and windy. >> now we have heard from the colonial school district that serves the areas and there are still some students, elementary school students at some of the elementary schools. the bus that was stuck here in plymouth valley, bus ten.

take a look. 95 northbound and southbound, looking really good. normally 95 is the culprit of all problems, but we're seeing good drive time there. 76 as you make your way eastbound, 476, not doing much better. mass transit, so we're seeing system wide delays. about 11 regional rail lines are not running today because of weather. new jersey transit expecting delays then amtrak, all service between boston and washington, d.c. that's closed and will resume tomorrow. zpl now to philadelphia. taking a live look at philadelphia. it's getting dark, but the hills, especially treacherous as always when we have this kind of weather. >> miguel is live in the square. the strong winds have caused problems there.

>> we've seen rain turn to sthoe and one thing that's been causing trouble is the wind. including the tree not the only thing that the wind is pushing down. the reason we're not closer to the tree is is because there's branches that keep falling off of the trees around the square. another thing the wind has been blowing around today, umbrellas. they have proved useless. the slush and snow and the rain.

got to turn around. be aware if you're on the roads, that trees are falling throughout the region. t it's heavy, wet snow and you have those heavy, high winds and the saturated ground and the roots just get wet. >> a lot of people forced to do a three point turn with these conditions. sydney long the live with an update on the conditions there. sydney. >> i can tell you since we first saw you, about 3 or 3:30, viz bability has improved and the intensity of the snow slowed down. i want you to look up at the light. it is still flowing sideways. the flakes not as big. you can still tell, probably hear it out here on the road, we're bracings ourselves because the wind is the type that continues to rip through you. you can see anytime the bushes a in the bushes and stop sign. it's a good thing we're just a degree or two above freezing,

police have dealt with downed powerlines, downed trees and car accidents on the road. we just learned some of the officers of emergency management here in south jersey, they extended their hours for dispatchers to be on hand, 1:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. this morning so they'll be out here to answer your calls and urge to continue to be safe out here on the roadways. nbc 10 news. >> still hear that wind in her microphone there. as we look live at the skyline here across camden, it's wet out there. the wind is whipping around. stay inside if you can at all tonight. you just don't need to go out. it's dangerous out there. tammie has an update on the storm, which has been sitting off the coast all afternoon. >> it's just been parked there. wee just getting new information about a building collapse near the market frankfurt, the septa station there. we're starting to get more

information about roofs and buildings being affected. not just trees and powerlines. take a look at this picture. just one example of this enormous tree down. across city avenue. jessica jones sent it in. send your pictures, tap the nbc 10 app. there are instructions there so we can share them on air and see what's happening in every neighborhood. we've got you covered. from lehigh valley to the jersey shore to the beaches of delaware and in between. it's in between right now, we're seeing those bands of heavier snow. you can see the purple. this is near wilmington, so between philadelphia and wilmington and into the northern portion of delaware, even now starting to see a band of snow forming in southern delaware and these bands are kind of migrating from north to south through the area. the good news is we're starting to see clearing in burgs county up into the lehigh valley and poconos.

more than a foot in some places, 19 inches of snow there. some of you have reports of more than 2 or 3 inches of snow. a lot of grassy areas, but on the roads, a lot of that has turned to slush and is melting. temperatures are above freezing. the heaviest bands of snow now which are being blown around from wilmington to middletown o toto alaway, edging back toward philadelphia. so you can see, this is the rotation of the storm. but you see it breaking up here on the backside, which is very good news. this is what's going to happen. hour by hour. you can see right now, temperatures above freezing. so a lot of this is going to melt. the winds are going to continue out of the north. piling water up along the seashore, but you see things will be breaking up by about 11:00 tonight. the winds will be b strong, but by the time we get into 3:00, 4:00 in the morning, we're really starting to clear out from the snow and we have to deal with gusty winds and along the shoreline.

we are not finished with this major winter storm. >> not by a long shot. we think this is going to go all night long and it's going to be difficult tomorrow morning. >> it's so different than any other storm we've seen this season because of there's a blocking pattern out u in the atlantic that's preventing this from moving offshore and it's just spinning around and then that spins the snow around. the heavy snow is into new castle county, delaware. new jersey. those areas in yellow. and blue. and so it continues.
