reports of an emotionally disturbed person, an incident transpired which wound up in three officers being injured one of them getting lacerations being taken to the hospital. now it is believed for all three of those officers the injuries are not considered life threatening. the suspect is still on the loose police conducting a search of the area police helicopter as well. it is conducting a search over head. live in chopper 2, jim smith, cbs2 news. police are questioning members of the queens family after a baby is found dead in a courtyard. the child was only weeks old. cbs scott. shock and sadness here, many questions surrounding what actually happened inside this building that led to an infant's death. >> a grizzly discovery inside this apartment building on myrtle avenue and 115th street in richmond hill. police say a 3 week old infant

boy found dead in a courtyard, neighbors stunned. sends a chill up my spine, that's awful. >> police say it happened around 4 a.m., the infant who lived with his family on the fourth floor of the building, here shaken. this woman says her friend told her someone in the building called 911 when she saw what listen. she was the one who called the cops and the cops asked her to do cpr and she said there was too much blood, she said i can't. >> police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. sources say the infant's mother, father, and 4 other children were in the apartment when it happened. all are now being questioned by cops. police sources tell us they are looking into the possibility that the infant was thrown from his fourth floor apartment window or perhaps accidentally dropped while someone was handling him. an awful accident. >> that's just horrible, terrible. >> police sources say the

infant has blunt impact injuries that can be consistent with a fall. >> everyone who was in the apartment is now being questioned by police at the 102 precinct. at this stage of the game right now, no arrests have been made. we're live in richmond hill this afternoon. cbs2 news. thank you. dozens are homeless after a fast moving fire moved through homes, a father, father, and two children could not make it out on their own and had to be pulled to safety. we have more live. >> reporter: of course we've just gotten an update on the victim's mother and one of the little girls are in critical condition, overcome by smoke the little girl was also burned her sister, and their father are also very seriously hurt and recovering but they are all alife thanks to newark firefighters who got them out of their apartment. >> smoke alarms and shaking woke them up.

>> a lot of smoke, the whole roof was on fire. >> 14-year-old jason valez and his family made it out of their apartment on the second floor, the family on the third floor needed help. >> the people upstairs you know, it was too much so they couldn't get out and two of the kids passed out. one got burned in the forehead. the firefighters came to the family's rescue. >> she watched as they pulled a child from the window and brought her down the ladder. >> they rescued a little girl, climbed down, then came down they went up, knocked down the door, and went up came down with a second child and then an adult female, and rescued her, recess tated her. >> 4 and 9 years old, the father made it out alive but injured. >> conscious when they left the scene, some of them were brought back to consciousness on the scene. >> two firefighters were also treated for minor injuries. >> aggressive interior to get

in to try to get these people out. >> firefighters kept working as the fire spread to the two attached buildings and damaged two more. it is not clear where it started, but the back of the building where the firefighters made those rescues was the most severely damaged. neighbors say the kitchens are in the back. >> now the fire forced a total of 40 people to leave their homes some of them are being allowed in right now to get some of their belongings. the back of the building was very seriously damaged, officials say the back porch from the third floor collapsed and that's why you see damage going all the way to the bottom of the buildingment the cause of the fire is still under investigation. live in newark,cbs 2 news. thank you. police are on the hunt for a man who set a flat bush restaurant on fire camera captured the man walking up to the strictly vegetarian restaurant on july 23rd, flames erupt before he takes off.

police are on the hunt for an attempted rapist in brooklyn. police say the man approached a woman walking along leonard street and williams burg saturday night, the woman says he began her neck and began to assault her. the two went to a near by atm where the woman says she withdrew $20, people who live in the area say they are shocked. >> i haven't felt unsafe so it does really surprise me. >> it does feel really safe, we have two children, a four-year- old and 6-year-old boy and there haven't recently beside this recently beenreports of violent crime here. the woman refused medical attention at the scene. new york senator charles schumer splits with president obama and says he'll not support the iran nuclear deal. in the agreement it would curve it program, in exchange the community would lift the sanctions against iran, but the risk iran will not change and continue its nuclear goals is too great.

now the most senior democrat to step deal opposing the deal. and came out with iran, engel says is -- it may strengthen the country. >> governor cuomo is wanting to stop the outbreak of legionnaires decide in the bronx. 10 people have died, 100 affected. they'll offer free testing where the bacteria can flourish. all buildings with cooling towers to be tested in the next 14 days, the bacteria that causes legionnaires is spread through water. we're learning an ohio woman also died from the disease. campaigns are taking stock after last night's gop. >> did any score clear hits? we have the story. >> reporter: less than 24 hours after the republican candidates

are we doing to the weekend? >> follow up on that story we're going to see more significant waves, rip current risk. if you're heading into the beach, today moderate rip current risk for long island, likely see that risk go up into the weekend with that storm out to sea. what are the weather watchers saying? let's see what they are dealing with, 79 degrees, very comfortable dew points wants to keep that storm south south, but will stir up the waves over the weekend. heading down south, thomas smith in manchester township, 75 degrees of course one of the many weather watchers it's would like to see rain, light shower over night, but i think that's about all you'll see for awhile. better chance for a soaker monday into tuesday, and then real quickly just because jennifer jones on the floor

likes 80 degrees and she loves seagulls. no she really doesn't. she can't stand them. but i appreciate that picture that's a very pretty picture. mostly sunny and 79. relative humidity at 43%. my wife doesn't like seagulls, she was a sailor, saying oh, those seagulls. pair of 7s for white plains these numbers compared to yesterday, average maybe a degree or two warmer yesterday 83, easily hit 83 again today. 84 normally 19 days above normal, likely today, right around normal or a little bit above into the weekend. 8 the uv forecast that means you can burn about 25 minutes i'll be outside this afternoon, i'll be putting the sunscreen on. beautiful skies right now, but yeah we talk about that storm to the south, you get a sense of the rotation right there big rainmaker out to sea most of the models keep it heading out to sea we do need the rain but yeah, it looks like the system
