the twin turboprop was reportedly flying in bad weather. it is carrying 54 people, 49 passengers and five crew members. we will keep you updated on the story as we learn more. and we begin with breaking news in east harlem. the search is on for a man that escaped police custody still in handcuffs. >> ilana gold joins us live from east harlem with more. ilana? >> reporter: andrea, police say the suspect is 25-year-old austin stevenson. they tell us he escaped from the 23rd precinct after he was arrested for trespassing. here is his picture. police released it moments ago. they want everyone to be on the look out for him. we wanted to show you video of police scouring the area by 102nd street and park avenue. they are going to a number of buildings trying to find the suspect but they haven't had any luck. here is what we know. the escape happened at 3:00 outside the 23rd precinct. they just took the suspect out of the patrol car. as they were walking him up to

the building he got away and ran off. he was last seen on park avenue. this is the third time something like this happened over the summer. in july arthur collins escaped from an east harlem precinct. he got out of his holding cell being booked on a burglary charge. a month earlier, take wreck arnold escaped -- tarek arnold escaped. both of these suspects were eventually captured. back live at the 23rd precinct in east harlem, police are looking for an escaped prisoner, austin stevenson. he is not armed or dangerous but if you know him or where he is, call them right away. live in east harlem, ilana gold, cbs 2 news. >> thank you. new this morning, julian bond, an activist at the forefront of the 1960s civil rights movement died. he died in fort walton beach after battling an unspecified

illness. he served as president of the southern poverty law center in the '70s and chairman of the board for the naacp for more than a decade. in the '80s he fought against apartheid in south africa. three people are dead after a multivehicle crash on the taconic state parkway in yorktown. police say before 3:00 p.m. a bmw s.u.v. slammed into an embankment north of baldwin and went airborne. the vehicle hit two other cars. eight people in addition to the three dead were hurt including one person rushed to westchester medical center in critical condition no word on what caused the crash. crews from the national transportation safety board are trying to determine what caused this fiery crash. this is a plane that crashed in west caldwell killing the pilot shortly after taking off from the airport yesterday morning. the pilot of the single engine cessna radioed to a control tower he was unable to maintain power.

he was trying to make it back to the runway but took a nosedive into the woods. >> as soon as it hit the ground it exploded and two more after that. >> the second you saw the explosion you knew what happened. no way anyone walks away from that. >> police say the 50-year-old pilot and flight instructor was the only person on board. no one else on the ground was hurt either. a brooklyn family is in mourning after a 5-year-old boy apparently drown while swimming in the rockaways. ezekial gray was unconscious and unresponsive when a lifeguard pulled him out of the waters at jacob reese park yesterday. it's the same beach where four ago. lifeguards say there were strong rip currents but it's unclear if that was a factor in the boy's death. an update in the legionnaires outbreak. the health department added several more confirmed cases of people with the disease bringing the total to 124. 94 of them have been treated and released from the hospital.

12 have died from legionnaires. there have been no new confirmed cases since august 3rd but the health department says the people that did die were adults with preexisting medical conditions. a firefighter shot twice during a violent stand off on staten island is back home this morning. dozens of firefighters cheered as lieutenant james hayes left richmond university medical center yesterday afternoon. the 31 year veteran of the fdny and father of two is expected to make a full recovery. he was shot twice friday morning responding to reports of smoke coming from a home where u.s. marshals were trying to serve a warrant. the man who shot hayes died in a shoot out with police. while this is one for parents, there is a child safety event being held on long island today. free services will be provided including inform on bike safety, car safety and free self-defense lessons and pick up a photo id card for your child. it kicks off this morning at

got stuck in the high waters. a pennsylvania clerk decided to fight back during a robbery. wait until you see what he had behind the counter. video surveillance caught two men running into the perry market. one of them carrying a sword or machete. once inside, the man with the machete demands money. around the same time and unknown to the robber, the clerk behind the counter grabs his sword. >> i used this one. when i see him with the sword. >> reporter: it worked. when he confronted the robber, the robber realized he was no match and turned around and ran. >> he attacked me from here. i thought it fall or something, his sword. >> reporter: the clerk said the man could have been shot because he had a gun. >> i have this gun and i can use it. the gun was there and the sword was there. since the man came with a sword, he didn't use this.

plane about 33 minutes after take off in indonesia. the twin turboprop was flying in bad weather. it's carrying 54 people, five crew members. more breaking news out of east harlem. police are searching for a man handcuffs. >> ilana gold joins us live from east harlem with more. >> reporter: andrea, police tell us they were taking the suspect into the 23rd precinct around 3:00 when he got away and ran off in handcuffs. this is who they are looking for. police say he is 25-year-old austin stevenson. this picture is from his arrest last year for robbery. this is by 102nd and park. authorities say stevenson was arrested for allegedly trespassing. officers had taken him out of the patrol car when he supposedly broke free and ran off.

no word on what caused the crash. police are searching for four people after a stabbing at the union square subway station. investigators say the attack happened at 6:30 last night on a southbound platform. witnesses say the attack appears to have involved a group of young people. the victim was taken to bellevue and is expected to be okay. an update in the legionnaires outbreak in the bronx. the city's health department added several more confirmed cases of people with the disease bringing the total to 124. 94 of them have been treated and released from the hospital. 12 people have died from legionnaires in the outbreak but the health department says there are no new confirmed cases since august 3rd. the health department said all the people that died were adults with preexisting medical conditions. at&t helped a role in helping the nsa spy on internet traffic. that is according to a report by the "new york times." documents provided by edward snowden.

she competes in drag race and magnificent makeup. last hour we talked moisturizer. this hour she is back. we are talking eyes. >> about the eyes today. >> it is the first thing. what is the first thing you should do before you start the eye makeup to make sure it stays on. >> if you do a smoky eye which we are doing here, we did one eye completely. the other eye is completely blank. put a primer down, start with a foundation. you can take a q tip with a little product and remove under the lashes. >> smoky eye is something that a lot of ladies like to learn how to do. how do you do it. >> take earth tones, browns or gray black mascara and eye liner. put a primer down first. i will take a gel liner. it's hot outside.

you need it to stick and last forever. a gel liner is meant to be bulletproof. base the entire lid. then you will need to blend this out. sequence. how do you like to do it. >> that is the liner that you are using. >> i never used a liner on my eyelid like that. i use it for the line. >> it's a cream based product. it can be used as a base. blend that out with brushes if you have them. >> we were joking about that. i didn't use brushes until i started at cbs. a lot of ladies don't. the brushes are important. >> it is. it's important because it helps to diffuse the line and make it look more seamless. when you get to the eye it is more intracasey.

you don't want it to look super heavy. with more time i could go in forever because i am obsessed with makeup. cutting in the crease of the eye, socket of the eye with the flushy blending brush. wins we are serving this up on morning television, i will cut the corners. we will add a little light to the eye. itching for an evening out, take a little shimmer or shadow with bigment like this lift and looking down, press it on top of the lid. that with a lash will look super dramatic with a nice flush tone lip or gloss. all about the eyes. >> talk to me about the eyelashes. >> you want to curl them and apply mascara first. >> on your real lashes. >> do did you know how to use an eyelash curler. >> it's really hard. >> it is. >> it's scary.
