i want to show you the ground video right away traffic snarled through the area after a grinding head-on truck collision closed new york state freeway in rocklin lanes, new york state police say one of the vehicles involved was headed northbound jumped the divider and slammed into oncoming traffic. that happened just about quarter to 10, 9:47, we have one person confirmed dead at the scene as you mentioned, and new york state police tell us the wreck includes one tractor trailer, two box trucks and another vehicle, but having looked at that seen it looks like a good deal more than that to me. cargo and truck parts litter the northbound lanes, paramedics have erected barriers to shield the gruesome scene, as i mentioned i-87 into new jersey and the freeway in both directions backed up will be for some time. lou young. also investigators are

trying to determine what set off a huge explosion at a high school, three construction workers were injured the force of the blast last night knocked out windows cbs 2 is life from the scene in marble hill, good afternoon. we're getting a better sense how bad the damage was from that explosion here last night you can see a lot of crews from the building city here, inspecting the damage but the schools chancellor says despite what's happened students will start class on schedule. >> part of the 6 floor science classroom of john f kennedy high school blown out, desks and computers untouched we know building just hours before. >> this is really scary, nothing to take lightly about, if this happened earlier, there was about 200 kids there at the school yesterday for summer bridge. >> today, police turning away for that program.

friday on an f-train from queens they say the 45-year-old victim asked this woman to move her bag so she could sit down, that the woman ignored her, but that the victim sat down anyway, that's when cops say this woman became engaged, pushing the victim, pulling her hair, scratching her chest and to bleed. >> to beat somebody up over that, that's terrible. police say -- it stopped at 21st street, they say the victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition. >> that was crazy, all she had to do was take a bag and sitdown and be courteous to others. at least say the suspect is still out there that she has not yet been apprehended, live in queens bridge, cbs 2 news. thank you. crews are struggling to get a handle on deadly wildfires in

the west, almost 30,000 firefighters are battling at least 80 fires that forced thousands of people to flee their homes. >> fast moving wildfires forced more evacuations over night in north central washington, a dozen major fires have scorched almost 400,000 acres across the state many of the firefighters battling the flames paused to honor three fallen brothers killed near the town. 31-year-old richard wheeler, 26- year-old andrew and 20-year-old tom. >> he is a great son. >> wonderful son and we loved being his parents. worked as a firefighter to pay for college. >> he was fun and smart and. >> cheerful and kind and he was going to be -- >> in the light of our lives the center of our lives. the deaths who left people

who live in a small town stunned. >> this is really hard, not an easy thing at all. >> firefighters say with wildfires practically burning in every corner of the state, this is one of the worst fire seasons ever in washington. chris martinez, cbs news. four other firefighters were injured including a 25- year-old who has third degree burns over half his body. huge crowds are expected in central park next month to see pope francis, it is a possible new stop on his visit to the city. >> police commissioner bill says details are still being worked out but the location may be on the pontiff's final itinerary. >> no visit is complete without a stop at the central park. and pope francis does not want to miss out. and said the public may have the chance to catch a glimpse of him there when he comes here next month.

issues about central park are routes, et cetera, opportunity for the public to see him. >> the pontiff has several events on his official schedule for his short trip, including mass at madison square garden, but you need a ticket to attend. details about routes or other ways the public can see him have not been released yet. this is the first time we've heard central park publicly mentioned as a possibility. saying the visit will be different than anything they've ever dealt with from a security standpoint because of his desire to have a personal connection with the people. >> i was here for the '95 visit, the security of the pope was enhanced by the vehicles he traveled in, but limiting the exposure of the public in terms of getting close to him and touching him et cetera. this pope has made it quite clear that he is going to

participate with the crowds in a different way. >> said one of the dramatic changes he visits is the speed of the motorcade. >> the process has slowed down significantly, but that was usually with the benefit of armored vehicles and in this instance, we're going to have to adjust to a pope that wants to have a lot more opportunity to mix with faithful. >> the police commissioner says they are working on a plan with homeland security and the secret service that accommodates the pope's wishes but keeps him safe as possible. when the pope does arrive. >> when the pope does arrive amtrak is taking steps to deal with the ridership, run extratrains and cars to add more passengers. amtrak says reservations will be required on all express, northeast regional, and keystone service trained friday september 25th through monday the 28th.

we have this exclusive store from bedford hills. >> reporter: wednesday afternoon, this duo walks into penny pincher starts browsing no red flags here, 5 minutes in you see the man look around, then snatch this brown bag worth $4,700. he then passes it to his accomplice, takes it and shoves it under her dress and what looks like spanks. a customer even walks by next up, a black bag worth $5,000, again, it goes under her dress. the third steal, a nearly $10,000 bag. there goes the woman stuffing it with the others again, she then immediately grabs a seline tote worth $4,200, off to the dressing room as the man engages the staff and buys a few shirts, both sidestep the sensor, they check one last time and head out. her waddling, then running more than $24,000 in her undergarments. staffers say clearly these two

eating out can be costly, wen new jersey restaurant is giving customers a break. >> they have no prices for you to name your own price. >> reporter: owner and chef of blue and its more rational joining restaurant called next door are set to close on august 29th when their lease expires, wanted a unique way to thank his customers for 10 years of business, for the whole month he has letting them whey whatever they want. >> everyone said, don't do this because people are going to take advantage of you. >> he said it's been quite the opposite. >> people are leaving good money, they get to try some good food, eat something as opposed to junk food. >> it is the fine dining restaurant that usually costs 28 to $30, now sized down to smaller portions. >> we have had a few customers who came in and left, maybe four or five dishes and left four or five dollarsnd a few customer who is actually had
